I think it's inevitable that they will push for a big handout. In a way, they already have. By encouraging politicians to embrace the reenactment of the "Fairness" Doctrine, failing media enterprises are seeking in-kind bailouts...using government to effectively slap protectionist tariffs on successful talk radio enterprises in an effort to "level the playing field". Meanwhile, Pinch and his colleagues have employed every conceivable tactic (from laying off print and delivery staff, to cutting editorial staff and from raising newsstand and subscription prices, to putting ads on the front page) in an effort to keep their failing enterprises afloat in feeble attempts to avoid addressing their greatest liability...the editorial policy. When they run out of options, they'll have the choice between demanding a government bailout (no doubt in the "public interest") or changing their failing editorial policy. Which do you think they'll choose?
