He is a democrat, of course.

He is a democrat, of course. Democrats don't resign in the face of their crimes. They usually become ever more beloved by their base for their crimes. It's a mark of their party to stay despite lawlessness. Only Republicans expect their politicians to resign in the face of perfidy.

Fearless Forecast...

I actually predict that not only will he refuse to resign, he will be named the gasbag Hillary's running mate.

Hmmm

You underestimate the bad will Spitzer has engendered among politicians of both parties in New York State. To get a picture of this bad will, read the editorial in today's Wall Street Journal.

As for the public, his unfavorable ratings are at 75%.  If he wants to stay on, impeachment proceedings are likely.

I liked this line...

"Where were the media before this? With a few exceptions, the media were happy to prosper from his leaks and even applaud, rather than temper, the manifestly abusive instincts of a public official."

Pity this one doesn't only apply to Elliot Spitzer these days... In fact, I have hopes this case might even take down other holier-than-thou officials.

A corruption-story the TV media will-not cover.

Media

With few exceptions (Wall Street Journal) the media were his cheerleaders. Time called him iconic.  He was called Eliot Ness. As New York State Attorney General, he was beating up on "evil" corporate executives.  It was a great morality play. The media is about telling a "story" not about truth.

As a result, many New York hedge funds relocated to Connecticut, outside of his jurisdiction.  No one bothered to question why a New York prosecutor was assuming a role typically reserved for the Securities and Exchange Commission or Federal Prosecutors.

Spitzer was aggressive and merciless. The print edition of todays' Wall Street Journal  reported: (it is missing from the online version).

In the case against Mr. Grasso, a lawyer working for Mr. Spitzer asked the former Big Board Chairman in a depostion whether he had any chidren with women who weren't married to him. (Mr. Grasso said he didn't).

Fred Dicker the informal dean of Albany political reporters, and a man well known for moderation, used the word "psychopath" when describing Spitzer on this mornings Today Show

Few New York voters took the time to peel back layers of the onion. Spitzer won the governorship with 69% of the vote. Fast forward to a year later. Spitzer's disapproval rating is now about 70% (before this scandal). He used the State Police to track a political enemy. He tried to push through driver's licenses for illegal aliens.

New Yorkers got the governor they deserved.

,

Warner, here in Boston Mitt

Warner, here in Boston Mitt Romney was hated because he was married only once and still married to the same women and had the nerve to go out on the campaign trail and talk about it.

There are two socially liberal talk-show hosts who were dissing Mitt and saying they liked Rudy and/or McCain because they were more "real" because they had been married a couple times and had cheated on their wives.

Bi-partisan boots kicking him out

He had promise, but blew it early.  He went after Bruno and that was a no-no to his democratic collegues in New York.  This scandal, believe it or not, is an embarassment to them..I say he is bipartisanlly booted out!

Exactly Right

He has been more of an embarrassment for state Democrats with his attacks on Bruno and his unilateral demand for drivers licenses for illegals. This was the icing on the cake. The GOP is doing it loudly while the dems are doing it quietly. But no one is telling him to stay.

He'll resign or be

He'll resign or be impeached. Either way, he's out. I give him less than 48 hours to make a deal with the Feds, then disappear.

Eliot Spitzer has always been...

an arrogant egomaniac, and I think his first inclination would be to try to make a deal of some kind (if possible) concerning whatever charges may be brought against him, and stick it out. But he has made many enemies over the years, and I don't think that we are going to see droves of people lining up to support and defend him...That coupled with the fact that this is an election year, I think so much pressure is going to be brought to bear, he'll have to resign.

PT,

LOL-No, but DLs for illegals is nowhere near as juicy as a good old prostitution scandal.

Theme for Election '08: I want my mommy!

re:PT...

True...And what a screaming success the "driver's licenses for illegals" idea was, huh?? That sure blew up in his face. Like you said-This couldn't have happened to a better man.

So....

For the next two years, whenever we get annoyed at liberals can we just randomly say "Eliot Spitzer!" and expect it to be a clever point?

re:candance

LOL!! Works for me!!!

Why should he

Why should he resign?

Firstly, he hasn't been charged with diddley.

Secondly, there is the usual fawning in the drive by media about what a "saint" the man is and the expected lack of identifying him as a dimocrat.  In the days ahead, expect numerous articles about how common and ordinary seeing a prostitute is (a la a blow job isn't sex during the clintoon scandal).

Thirdly, he is being given the "above the law" treatment by the police and the courts.  Dont' believe me?  How many criminals get to tell their families what they have done, call a press conference to tell the public and then, "decide their future" before being charged with a crime that he clearly carried out if you read the "court papers" (even this document is being carefully identified as NOT being a criminal indictment).

Watch for this to be a career enhancer like it was for clintoon and his "partner" billary.  Spitzer in '16!

Only William Jefferson

Only William Jefferson (D-LA) can get away with being indicted and still staying in office. I don't see Spitzer has having the magic touch that Jefferson does.

Edited to say that Rick Renzi (R-AZ) just got indicted. He is staying in office but is not running for re-election.

»→ William Jefferson

But Larry Craig (R) can plead guilty and stay in the Senate.  That arrogant man should've stepped down rather than further embarrass his party.

♣ a seal

Ditto...Larry Craig...

This idiot should have been gone months ago. I'm angry that the higher ups in the party didn't lean on him more and make his life so miserable that he would've been forced out. Craig is a disgrace to himself, his family, his state, his party, and the Senate.

Maybe you haven't noticed

Maybe you haven't noticed this, but the Craig affair is another of those curious sex scandals involving Republicans in which there was no actual sex.  This is like Mark Foley.  All he did was write dirty email to some 18 year old twink.  He didn't even do that with the 17 year old.

Spitzer actually frequented this call girl service for quite some time.

Dems don't resign

Dems do not resign over private personal matters...

They go on to rake in big money as motivational speakers

And he is one of hillary's super delegates

He will vote for hillary in hopes of a future pardon

Resign?

Why should a democrat resign when it was just sex. It's more likely he'd be re-elected.

Chai

“...Bury me on my face,” said Diogenes; and when he was asked why, he replied, “Because in a little while everything will be turned upside down.”

Should be a third

Should be a third selection up there:

The MSM will drop this story faster than it takes Spitzer to resign ...

Eliot Spitzer's bad day in DC.

Just saw Alan Dershowitz on CNN with AndersonCoop.

Alan thought he should just get charged with a misdemeanor.

Mr. Dershowitz couldn't understand what the big deal was.

Ozones Comment: "Okay!"

....after I digested the

....after I digested the great news about Dudley Doo-Right doing what he had to do today, floating his balloon and all before the primary news tomorrow...the first person that came to mind was Jeanine Pirro and her must being poppin' corks, the second was Hillary Clinton.

I am still smiling wide.!

Sometimes sticking a fork in it just doens't work, pulling it out and facing reality is another matter.

Time will tell.

Hypocrisy will show itself for all to see in the long run IMHO.

This is a tough one.

This is a tough one.  Ordinarily I would have expected him to resign in disgrace today.  But the libs were floating the Larry Craig and David Vitter incidents as moral equivalency arguments...which suggests that his lust for power will overcome his sense of shame and decency.  But he's the chief executive of Hillary Clinton's "home" State and has a much higher profile than do the two Senators.  He's going to stick out like a sore thumb and make the Clinton campaign look even more sleazy...especially in light of his heavy-handed approach to prosecuting other prostitution rings.  But the Clintons have plenty of disgraced and disgraceful human filth in their campaign cat house: Antonio Villaraigiosa, Terry McAuliffe, Schmuckie Schumer, Fast Eddie Rendell, Norman Hsu, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc....so there's probably room for one more.  Let's put it this way, if he doesn't want to get clipped, he may want to avoid parks for a while.

I was kind of hoping Spitzer

I was kind of hoping Spitzer and Michael Vick could get to know one another. But I doubt if ES will ever see the inside of a court room. He won't act hastily, unless there is a groundswell of indignation and/or those in those smoky back rooms want him gone, he's not going to resign.

NY set to get it's first black governor - David Paterson

Less than two years after he reluctantly ran for lieutenant
governor, David Paterson is suddenly in line to be only the third black
governor since Reconstruction, and the first in New York.

"He's the next governor and probably quite soon," said Maurice
Carroll, director of Quinnipiac University's Polling Institute and a
longtime New York political reporter.

Attention turned to Paterson immediately after word surfaced
Monday that Gov. Eliot Spitzer had been linked to a high-priced
prostitution ring. In a brief appearance in front of reporters, Spitzer
issued a vague apology and did not mention resignation.

If Spitzer quits, Paterson automatically becomes governor and would complete Spitzer's term, which ends Dec. 31, 2010... More >>

Q. Why is John McCain Lying about What Hospital he was Born in?

I said "yes."

But then, I also thought Vitter & Craig would be long-gone by now, so count me "easy to fool."

Spitzer will resign

Two reasosn why he resigns... 1. The Feds have some great stuff on tape or 2. The Clintons and the Obamas put major pressure on this dude to squash the bad press in this the "Year of the Democrat" By the way...I didn't know that Spitzer was a Democrat...I must have missed the NYT Headline stating "DEMOCRAT"...oh that's right, it was blatantly absent until you get to the fourth paragraph.

Schadenfreude Schadenfreude Schadenfreude Schadenfreude

He won't resign until he can get something for his resignation. Some kind of immunity against prosecution if, for example, he informs on the prostitution ring. He's more than just a 'john' who was caught with his pants down. Who paid for his little stay at the Mayflower? The taxpayers no doubt. A bastard as arrogant as he is surely believes he's entitled to some 'relaxation' on the job.

Let's see where this goes, my guess is he resigns for immunity and then its 'Spitzer who?' . Unlike Scooter Libby who did nothing wrong.

If he expensed this trip and/or the probable other such experiences, he's up for federal prosecution!

BTW, that girl (and her attorney) has really got him by the balls now! His wallet, and its a big full wallet, isn't far behind!

Did you catch the name of the NY Post Writer on TODAY for this!

Talk about doing things that are funny or intended to maliciously get at people the one on TODAY was for fun, the one on Dexter was malicious.  Did you catch the name of the NY Post Writer on TODAY for this!  His name "FREDERIC DICKER"!  That was for fun.  Then on DEXTER Sunday they had Halloween masks and talked about what they meant and when saying "MALICIOUSLY EVIL they show mask of Pres Bush"!  That was malicious!

spitzer

He will pull a "clinton"....lie, lie, deny, deny, be sorrowful, ask for forgivenenss...and finally say that it was all sex and had nothing to do with anything else...and, he will succeed

Well

He stays, unless he was pimping Chelsea, then he is gone.

"Always do right. This will gratify some people, and astonish the rest". Mark Twain

He'll Resign

This is a POTUS election year where the Democrats are battling it out over a candidate, one of whom is the NY Senator.  Also looming over them is the Florida and Michigan problem.  I'm sure the heads of the Democratic Party are telling Spitzer to resign or else.  They can't take any more bad news and win in November.  He may not want to resign but he will be forced to.

If he doesn't resign

I think he'll be a "Superdelegate." I'm with you, I think he's going to go. But as I said, I thought the same thing about Vitter & Craig, too, and obviously I was very wrong.

That worthless scrap of

We are all damaged...

We are all damaged by such a failure.

I'm not damaged.

I voted for John Faso.  I also voted for John Spencer and Rick Lazio when they ran against Hillary here in NY in 2006 and 2000 respectively.  The only things that are damaged are the brains of 70% of NYer's who robotically vote for fools like Spitzer, Hillary, and Chuck Schumer.

If Spitzer Resigns...A blind Democrat will be leading the State

Spitzer is going to Drag it out. . . .  after all, Innocent until proven Guilty.

He will Claim he was only a Client.....forget the Money laundering charges, interstate Transportation, I'm sure as a Former Attn. Gen. he will have been Smart enough to cover his Tracks.... well, I hope he was smart enough......He's not a dumass is he ?

Voted No

We have a case here where ego will trump reality.

Democrats don't resign

Here is how it works.

When a scandal happens to a Democrat, that Democrat's approval rating goes up and they are lauded for their courage.  He or she NEVER steps down.  Republicans just sit and stare in amazement at the corruption but do nothing about it.

When a scandel happens to a Republican, that Republican steps down, most of the time, and he or she is condemned by the party.  Democrats hold that politician up as an example of the "culture of corruption" that is exclusively to the Republican party.  Senate Democrats launch an investigation (essentially the pervert Democrats want to know all of the juicy details).

Uh, folks, with both Vitter AND Craig still in office...

This one's frankly a bit of a tough sell, even here, unless both politicians secretly changed parties...

I know Sarc

And I don't buy that Republicans really care about it anyway - our great hero Fred Thompson played a big part in protecting BJ Clinton from impeachment.

Spitzer won't quit.  He

Spitzer won't quit.  He will adopt the new monikker, "Long Schlong Spitzer", Scourge of the Street, and become another element of Democratic folklore, much like Gerry Studds did a generation ago.

At least this is a sex scandal that features actual sex, unlike Jim Craig, who it appears couldn't quite get that part of the job done.

McCain ignores Govfornicator, but hit Republicans

Apparently John McCain hasn't got anything to say about the Democrat sex scandal involving the GOVFORNICATOR...

McCain calls for investigation of complaints about Foley
By Michelle R. Smith, Associated Press Writer | October 4, 2006
Sen. John McCain on Wednesday called for Congressional leaders to appoint a panel of "credible" people to investigate a scandal about inappropriate e-mails and electronic messages sent by former Rep. Mark Foley to teenage pages.

McCain calls on Craig to resign
August 29, 2007

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) — Sen. John McCain called on his embattled Republican colleague Sen. Larry Craig to resign Wednesday, two days after it was first reported that the Idaho Republican was arrested in an airport bathroom and pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.
