If the dems don't do something before the election...they are dumber than I thought the leftists in power behind the scenes were...then again maybe Soros doesn't care about throwing away money and losing the Prez race... again.

MSM will spin-it... demos, been for drilling all along, in the leased lands areas..and take credit for falling oil prices... things are just great again.. thanks to them.

Now that oil is "cheap now" less than $120/bbl...here's hope that Soros lost the BIG bucks..on oil futures.

The Dems in close

The Dems in close races will vote for drilling but the Dems that are basically unopposed won't.  Maybe if Exxon told Nancy P that light sweet crude baths cure wrinkles she would go for it.

President Ronald Reagan - 1985

Remember the Surge?

Even if they do support it, which I don't believe they will, the American public is already aware of them trying to take credit for anything that has success.

The surge is a great example.  Most democrats were against the surge, but after they reevaulated the situation (found out there were wrong) they decided to switch issues.

The oil issue won't just go away for them though, and if does they will probably try to take credit for it.  Problem is they know have a recent example of not supporting something but trying to take credit after it succeeds.

Thomas Jefferson once said, 'We should never judge a president by his age, only by his works.' And ever since he told me that, I stopped worrying.

I put "unsure" but

My answer: "No, because President Bush won't back his own party and call the congresscritters back from vacation, despite 0 political downside to the idea" wasn't a choice. Republicans need to MAKE Nancy not-vote on this issue, and without the President helping, they can't, because frankly, without his help they're irrelevant.

Hi sarc.... Like I said

Hi sarc....

Like I said yesterday, I am glad McCain called for Pelosi to call Congress back to work on this...there is still more time for the Pres. to do that too...which I wouldn't mind seeing either...you never know, maybe they are working in conjunction behind the scenes, ya' never know...(on the other hand, McCain is to blame for the one vote we could of used in '05 to have already been getting things done with drilling and ANWR..he led the way with the other RINOs to defeat the bill, and it wasn't because of taxes for the oil companies either, it was because he has always been against drilling...period, well, up until now that is) maybe Pres. Bush is getting even...after-all you know he had to tell McCain he was going to be making an announcement about lifting the moratorium before he did it, and leaving the issue up to congress and their oh so wise hands...that got us all in the mess in the first place...for over 30 years.

One thing about it though...Pelosi would just shut congress down again, she would not bring up the off-shore drilling or lifting the moratorium, not on your life.

It would be worth the political points though... Just the ads alone would be priceless.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

McCain calling for it is like you or me calling for it.

None of us are the President, and none of us can call back Congress and make them not-vote. So many Democrats are likely to backtrack on this issue that Pelosi might not be able to prevent a vote, but Bush sure can by not forcing the issue.
JMR

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.

I agree, sarc. GWB has been pretty much AWOL on this.

He should be out on the White House lawn on a daily basis, calling out the dems (and I mean naming individuals to their faces) for their steadfast refusal to allow this country acess to its own energy resources.

The fact that he hasn't been doing this is inexcusable.

We are not going to save this country by being polite to those who are
working tirelessly (and succeeding right handily) at destroying it.

The truly weird part is

That there's NO downside politically if he'd just do this and call them back. Even if it's a total waste of time, it's not like Congress is that popular.

Let That Rocker Draw

I mentioned in an earlier thread that there are oil wells near my house. Within a five mile radius of my home there are probably a dozen oil wells, and at least one or two are going nearly all the time these days. I don't know what their production rate is, but in Kentucky there has been a lot of regulatory hurdles to sink new wells.

Once they are pumping oil a couple of new problems present themselves. The main problem is that distributors are slow to pump oil out of holding tanks near the well and rocker. That's why I scoff when I hear people say that we are having a supply problem. Secondly, often the energy cost for getting the oil out of the ground offsets any profit the lease holder or well owner gets from the oil. The wells around me are usually run off electricity, supplied by an rural electric cooperative or the TVA. Usually, the wells are not near enough an electric lines that the owner has to use propane to run the pump. It takes energy to get energy.

The wind doesn't blow enough in Kentucky -- especially in the summer -- to use wind to power the rockers.

Last winter my children and I hiked through a large forest behind our home -- probably about 1,000+ acres of second growth forest. I was stunned when I discovered a rocker pump twirling away less than a mile from my house.

The left has villified oil production and drilling to the point that people think it will destroy the environment. It has not effected the environment in my -- quite literally -- neck of the woods. I never noticed them drilling that well, and I never knew the pump was back there. On very rare occasions I can smell the gas coming from the pump. I just tell guests "that's the smell of money." A nearby dairy causes more smell (none of it bothers me) than the oil wells.

I just don't buy that drilling for and pumping oil is going to cause that much trouble. The only thing I can see around here is that it has boosted the local economy. I've not really had any direct benefit, but a friend asked me if I'd be interested in a stint as a roughnecker on a well he's sinking on his land. The offer is quite lucrative. I cherish my hands and limbs, though.

And people thought we only had coal in Kentucky.

CopperR... Wow, this is

CopperR...

Wow, this is all very interesting to me.

I'd of never thought of Kentucky either...

Hooray...good for all of this.

This is one perfect example of right in my back-yard vs. NOT in my back yard.

I love it.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

Oh yea BT, there are still

Oh yea BT, there are still "oil towns" in TX an LA and elsewhere. Although not like it was in the 70's and 80's.  A lot of the inland wells are privately owned wells. We had a few of them on the farm in MI. These are low production wells, but not long ago they were responsible for more then 25% of our oil used. If you drive cross country you will see hundreds of these from the Interstate, along with many wind farms I might add.

When you own the land, I believe the requirements for drilling go out the window. Seems to me the Feds make a huge amount of $ from Big Oil in the form of bloated leases and taxes. The fed doesn't seem to realize that they go as Big Oil goes, I know this because we send ~72 trillion overseas instead of keeping it here. Most of the folks I currently know were in or are currently involved with the oil business. The Dem scream about their profits, but they never bother explaining just how much cash it cost the Oil Co's to produce, transport and convert oil, or how many they employ. The Dems just want to tell you how much more money they can steal from them, as if it wont cost "you" anything.

The Dem's may allow to have

The Dem's may allow to have a non-binding vote, but only if the GOP allow them to have a vote to put some other bill that is full of pork and does nothing but buy vote back home. Then when the GOP don't go for that the Dem's will blame the GOP for holding up the vote for oil and make the GOP looks like the bad guys. But, by that time it will be November and in the end there will be no vote. At least until January and the GOP take back all three branches. (yes wishfully thinking but one can "hope")

Wanna buy some oil? It's good stuff man.........

"We should sell 70 million barrels of oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve for less expensive crude" - Obama, August 4th, Lansing, Michigan

Obama wants to sell high-grade oil to buy low-grade oil. Isn't that like selling vintage wine because it'll buy a lot more Boone's Farm. Or selling the Cadillac for a couple of clunkers? Help me out here.

Question:
Who would Obama sell 70 million barrels of oil to, and who would he buy the less expensive crude from?

Dim's at their best

Come on folks, old Nancy will not allow a vote before November. She wants a change in the current leadership, and hopefully, more Dims in congress before they'll talk about it. Rumors persist out of Washington, incumbent Dims have been told by Pelosi to swing the other way to garner support for their re-election. The game plan seems simple:

1. Support drilling if your coming up for election. This way you

2. Claim credit when a new energy program is finally passed.

3. Allow Pelosi to take the heat until November. She's not up for re-election.

After November, most individuals will only remember that it was the Dim's that brought them out of anarchy with their new and improved energy proposal. Of course, the plan will not work since they will be required to drill on already leased land; stricter eco laws; only partial off shore drilling (again, limited to small areas where the possibility of major discoveries would be rare); and best of all.... Windfall Tax!!!

During this time with political correctness at its zenith, I reserve the right to let you know you're an idiot.

If they come back to

If they come back to Congress after the break the Repubs should demand so much common sense and logic that the Dems have to choose between getting re-elected or voting against the GOP policy agenda on energy.

We can hope

All praise the Great Peloma!

The end times draw nigh!  And only Pelosi and Obama can save us from our stupid, greedy selves.

And as Obama might say, "We are the enemy that we've been waiting for."  Therefore, we deserve to have gas prices go up and up - until we are chastened into living lives of bitter frugality.

All praise the Great Peloma!  They have seen the light - and turned it off to save energy.

Question:Where did the coal

Question:Where did the coal and oil in the ground come from? And why is it called fossil fuel?

Answer: Why from plants and animals of some bygone era.

Question: Do you mean to say that all that oil underground, and the carbon contained therein, was living growing things that were once on top of the ground?

Answer: Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying.

Question: So what you are saying is that when all that carbon was up here, the "world that then was" was more full of life and lush than what we see today?

Answer: Evidently so.

Question: So then, how could it be harmful to the planet to put back on top what was once here which provided an environment that by all evidence was more full of life?

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:31

"Television is a freak show" Bernie Goldberg

Partly, but not as a party.

Partly, but not as a party. Some dems will back drilling  because they will have to, to retain their seat in congress. So some will break with the party line for political reasons, not because of the need for oil.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Snake Oil

If the dhimmi's in congress don't put some oil on the market besides the Snake Oil they always peddle they won't need quite as much gas after Nov. They will be living a lot closer to home.

Old, Retired and glad of it.

Horrible survey

How about, "No, they won't relent because it's kind of a dumb idea"?

The whole off-shore drilling is a non-issue for this reason: the Republicans have ALREADY voted against other, alternative legislation. There have been votes on energy plans, but the Repbulicans vetoed them because it wasn't off-shore drilling. The Republicans don't want to fix the energy situation - they want it their way or the high way.

Let's use a metaphor: the Republicans remind me of myself as a child. Maybe you did this too: when I was a child, my mom would make dinner. Sometimes I didn't like the dinner. I would refuse to eat it, instead demanding that mom make something I liked to eat. My mom would say, sorry, but this is good food and it will solve your hunger problem. Eat it or go hungry. Besides, I can't make that for you now because it's too much troulbe. I continued to whine and complain, going hungry. Sometimes, I did eventually eat what was offered me, though, and found it pretty tasty.

Right? So the Republicans have tons of options here, but they've voted against EVERY single one. Then they say, We want off-shore drilling! The Democrats say, sorry, we already offered you other options that would solve the problem. You had a chance to vote on an energy plan; "drill more" isn't a plan, though. Up to you guys.

The Republicans stamp their feet.
If they would shut up and vote on a real energy plan, then maybe they would be happy with the results.

Bottom line: voting against energy plans and throwing a fit about off-shore drilling is not going to help anyone.

And yet you think they're somehow looking out for you.

BogusChester, both you and Biffy are economic illiterates.

Bottom line: voting against energy plans and throwing a fit about off-shore drilling is not going to help anyone.

Oh, really? Remember the Carter years?

Jihad Jimmy ran around scaring the hell out of everybody over the energy "crises." His mindless alarmism was hugely responsible for the sharp increase in the prices we were then paying at the pump.

Funny thing was, Jihad Jimmy never really had an energy plan to speak of. What is more, once he left office, energy prices plummeted and stayed low for two decades.

As you are a far-left lib, the simple concept of supply-and-demand is beyond your comprehension. Movement to increase our current oil supplies has to be made NOW in order to take the upward pressure off the price, before it damages the economy much further.

Since Mr. Bush lifted the ban on drilling in certain areas, and also  called for the most useless congress in the history of this country to vote to expand drilling into other areas, the price-per-barrel has already began to drop, and they haven't even poked the first hole in the ground yet.

As an aside here, I have friends who have lost their livelihoods due to the sharp rise in energy prices, one of which is on the verge of losing his home because of it, and he wasn't a high-risk borrower, either.

I blame people like you, Biffy McLame, Nancy Pelosi, and all the rest of the America-hating fern-fondlers who are willing to see the economy of this country destroyed in order to foist your socialist ideals on the rest of us.

It is time those of us who truly care about freedom and liberty, as well as the future of a country we love dearly, started getting in you idiot's faces in a really big way:
