June 3, 2008 - 14:33 ET by Dee Bunkand I'm serious. That is about the only VP he could pick that would excite me. The two of them are pretty much the same in my eyes and at least everyone would realize the race was against two democrats.
Then if McCain were able to squeak out a win, maybe we could Run a Republican against him in 2012. If not, maybe even a third party candidate would actually have a chance.
I keep hearing Barr's getting 7%
June 3, 2008 - 14:41 ET by sarcasmoWhich is an unthinkably good election result for large-L Libertarians of any sort, but the election's still a long way way, and when Jon Stewart mentioned the idea of Hillary as VP in his halfway-serious way, McCain did nix it.

June 3, 2008 - 15:46 ET by sarcasmoAsked Nadine Strossen, his boss at the time, a different form of that exact same question. The ACLU, when they stick with free speech absolutism instead of their stupid-at-times politics having little or nothing to do with speech, performs a very valuable function IMO. The problems for the ACLU, and thus for free speech, come when their politics pollute the issue; much as the NRA's knee jerk Republicanism has at times polluted what should ideally be their pure support for the RKBA.

June 3, 2008 - 20:56 ET by ThisnThatYou didn't just equate the ACLU and NRA, did you? The ACLU doesn't protect victims; they don't protect children; they don't support my right to free speech and expression (I like to say words like Christmas, for example); they don't protect marriage. Instead, they protect sex offenders; they defeat attempts to prevent minors from getting abortions without parental consent; and to tear down every cross ever constructed in this country.
Frankly, there's no comparison at all between the NRA and ACLU.

June 3, 2008 - 13:58 ET by PewahCome on...Obama pick Hillary for VP?! With hubby Bill in town, it would be like asking your meddling, loud-mouthed and fighting in-laws to move into your basement. Why in the world would Obama want to be constantly fighting with and trying to suppress those two uber egos for 4 to 8 years?!
The Dems will pull back together after Obama is chosen because they have no other real choice. In all likelihood, Hillary will be publically promised a position in Obama's cabinet that is very high profile, like "Health Czar" or whatever. This will allow him to somewhat pacify the Hillary Nuts and also put a powerful face on something that he desires to force onto the public anyway...like universal health care.
Hillary is shrewd. She would gladly accept such a position because it would keep her name before the voting public until the next time she runs...because she will undoubtedly run again! She has to. It's her self-perceived destiny.
I wonder how all the

June 3, 2008 - 13:59 ET by lnthompI picked "Don't Care" because no matter who wins the November election, there will be a proselyte of the Church of Global Warming inaugurated on 1/20/09. June 3, 2008 - 14:02 ET by fitzfongThe Clintons are nothing if not calculating. Hillary will always be looking for the option that is best for Hillary rather than the option that is best for her party or the country. My guess is that Obama doesn't want her and she doesn't want to be on his ticket. As a whole, I don't believe Republicans are that engaged in the upcoming general election. While many will be eager to vote down the ballot, they will not be inclined to vote for a candidate that they detest (McCain). Advantage Obama. If, however, Obama picks Clinton, the general level of distaste for the Clintons will weigh down the Democratic ticket. For all the Barbra Streisand-style carpies that a Clinton place on the ticket will attract, that nomination would bring many times that just to vote against the Clintons. Advantage McCain. My guess is that Clinton will publicly support but privately undermine Obama in the hopes that he loses to McCain and becomes damaged goods in 2008. Then she can begin her "I Told You So" run for 2012.

June 3, 2008 - 14:07 ET by fitzfongYou're right. He's not a shoe-in. Nor should he be. He's given the electorate precious little to convince us that he'd be any better than the two he's running against. On the whole, Republicans are unmotivated to vote for him...he'll have to choose a very inspiring running mate or hope that Barack picks Hillary. Otherwise, McCain's toast. And I, for one, won't be losing any sleep over it.

Don't think she wants it
June 3, 2008 - 14:18 ET by doug1950With the Clintons you always have to keep your eye on the ball. NOthing is done without purpose or spontaneously. Every move is a calculation and has at least three deliberate routes it can take. I do not think she even wants the VP slot. She is through being second banana (she did it for Bill). I do think she has some demands that must be met if he wins in the fall. Most likely some kind of high, lone position where she can be in the limelight for herself and better position herself for a later run. Ive heard rumor she is trying to get her campaign debts paid off as well. Don't be surprised if she isn't one of the key speakers at their Convention. You can bet the fat lady hasn't even started warming up to sing yet. The other thing going on here is when she steps down you can take it to the bank it will be for "the good of the Party and America" so she can appear to be magnanimous, and the supporters and media will literally swoon from adoration. There will be endless accolades, quivering lips and uncontrollable weeping. Joy Behar will nominate Hillary for Sainthood and then we will have "closure" (whatever the hell that means).
