While I wouldn't doubt it's
November 21, 2008 - 11:27 ET by Indiana JoeWhile I wouldn't doubt it's on his mind, I don't think he'll actively try to control web content. I'm sure a lot of his backers would love to shut down sites like NB, but I think even he would have trouble spinning it as anything but glaring censorship. But I've been wrong before.
It was back in '94, I think....

November 21, 2008 - 11:37 ET by jackie3With his communist background--of course he will. He's already got the media eating out of his hand. There is a cult like atmosphere around him. He is the "messiah" and will basically get his way.
He will find ways to shut sites like this down. Taxes and fees so high no one can afford them. And a combination of cyber terrorist. Viruses being unleashed on certain sites. Smarter viruses, smarter ways of shutting down opposition. The main stream media won't report the viruses. And if they do it will be a one line mention.
He will use a public distraction to cover his actual agenda. Make up that there are domestic terrorist, hate crimes, racist. The new "jew" will be anyone who disagrees with him is a racist.
The only sites immune to it will be pirate sites that are put in place by hackers who can out smart the government.

A funny sound..
November 21, 2008 - 11:49 ET by ScrapironThere is a funny sound coming from the bathroom of the 'Chosen ones' proposed Attorney Generals bathroom. I think it is a super flush toilet processing the 1st and 2nd Amendment to the Constitution down into the sewer. He has a history of attempting to destroy the constitution so why should we believe he'll be any different this time around.
Is D.C. turning into Bagdad? The picture of the 'chosen one' on Metro tickets would indicate so. Two Hussein's, two cities, two phonies. Will they meet the same fate?

I voted Don't know yet
November 21, 2008 - 11:59 ET by Dan The Man 2I voted Don't know yet because so much is up in the air. I want to think teh worst of him and believe he will try to censor any and all mediums. Now whether he can censor teh web or media or print we will see. The net would be the hardest to censor as there are a lot of web surfers out there not willing to give up their freedoms. But, if he can convince the public it is in teh countries best interest he may do it.
The End of Days seems near, of course it has been for near 2K years. So it is closer than it was but who knows how close.

November 22, 2008 - 06:46 ET by sentforth5"don't know yet" because Biblically we are smack in the middle of the 5th Trump, and the vials are being poured out. I question just how long this presidency will last...in the great book of our beloved brother and fellow servant Daniel; in God's prophecy of the last days, God reports that," Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle."...gee maybe this is obamabinladen being removed because he ain't no American citizen. Beats me, we'll see, but I thoroughly believe God and I am daily astonished at how the front page news is EXACTLY as God predicted thousands of years ago. I'm tellin' ya, the Bible is not a religious document; it is a statement of fact.
Internet censorship
November 21, 2008 - 12:00 ET by art341How he will accomplish this within the framework of the first amendment is beyond me. The stasi's who would impose a "fairness doctrine" justify their actions by holding that the "airways" belong to the "people". The internet is private and serves no "public purpose". I really can't see a Supreme Court of nearly any ideological makeup allowing internet censorship, although I shudder when I recall that McCain-Feingold passed muster.
everyone was warned about
November 21, 2008 - 12:01 ET by JIMMY1660everyone was warned about what would happen if BHO and his nefarious band of misfits and terrorists got into the White House. The damage these lefties will inflict upon America, will last for years. It goes without saying, CHANGE means cutting the Constitution to shreds in the name of change. Looking at the staff BHO is putting is place, is the same old Beltway bureaucrats. Stuffing their pockets with your tax dollars.
Once these a$$holes bend us all over, "WOW WHAT HAPPENED?"
BHO will never be my President-his relationship with Khalid al-Monsour and Bill Ayers made that clear for me.

November 21, 2008 - 12:35 ET by CaringwhiteguyThe Chinese government has set a wonderful precedent for the Chosen One to follow. He's certain to take a good look at it. Google caved to a number of Chinese demands. Why wouldn't they cave to those from their man of the hour?

November 21, 2008 - 12:49 ET by bigtimerI picked I don't know yet, because it comes closest to a pick for me, I do not think he will, look at where all his campaign money came from, via the internet...illegal to-boot, he wouldn't want to destroy that priceless venue, after-all, there is no way to track down all the $$$ or the donors, which he refused to make open for all to see who and where those were coming from...

It's very simple
November 21, 2008 - 13:22 ET by jackie3Art431--it's actually very simple. The internet is only private as long as the government allows it. Something called "Public Domain" could easily be enforced with the internet. The government could actually take it by buying out the private entities. Public Domain was used to gain property for public highways.
It's not that far fetched. If the government wants to control the internet they will do so under public domain laws. they will say it's for the best interest of the public. Then screw us over.

While he should have bigger problems to worry about, he will find the time to take way the freedom of speech so he can advance his socialist agenda un-abated.

They can't handle people disagreeing with them. Those that do, must pay.
There is also a pay off to a "special" interest. The media. The media thinks no one pays for their papers/magazines or listens to their news casts because of the internet. (The fact that we're tired of their BS and lies; isn't registering.) There will be an attempted curbing of the internet to pay back the media.

November 21, 2008 - 20:56 ET by alamojbIf it does happen, it might very well be thru the UN. A while back I read some article where someone was advocating turning over certain internet *nodes to the UN that were mostly under control of the US. ("belong to the world" blah blah leftists claptrap) The UN does not have a "first Amendment" and there is a movement to push thru an anti-religious defamation law thru the UN. Of course this is just an attempt to censor any discussion of religion that is anti-Islamic. It is being pushed by Islamic nations.
* I say "nodes" because I do not remember the technicle term. From the article it appeared these were far higher than basic servers and there were only a handful of them worldwide- most in the US. Basically information chokepoints.

I remember that too now that you mention it, seems like it was about6-8 months ago now, if memory serves me that in the end was quashed, but make no mistake, it will be coming back on down the road....in my opinion anyway.
One way or the other the govt. will find a way to get their paws in here big time, let alone the UN/world control.
Hope I am wrong, hope it isn't in my lifetime too.

November 21, 2008 - 21:01 ET by ImAllRightNo, its a myth, because I'm not crazy.
Some of you are high off some liberal hippy ganja if you think he'll do anything to restrict common websites internet reach. Most of his money came from the net, if he were to do this and couple it with the Fairness Doctrine then there goes Kos and any of the other lib. blogs that raised countless amounts of $$$ for him.
Some of you sound as looney as the left with some of these conspiracy theories that you're spouting off.
Obama is an untested politican with a bad tax policy, to seriously call him a communist is part of the reason we're in the gutter.
Of course, this coming from the crowd that wanted McCain to talk about Ayers more, even when it was obvious that it was backfiring.
I blame all of you as much as the damn people that voted for anyone but McCain/Palin (if I bit the bullet and voted for Mac then anybody can, don't give me your reasons for voting Barr, not good enough) for these next four years of whatever happens to the economy and abroad.
Most of you have lost touch with what THIS America wanted out of their President and because of that a Sen. that spent 2 years at work and then ran for POTUS has won while a 25+ year vet with an incredible VP pick is left on the sideline, with poor Governor Palin having her political career already ruined before it ever really started.
Thanks everyone. Thanks so much.
And chill on the paranoia. For people that bash the left more than anyone for their goofy views on things, you guys' sound equally as nuts by making Obama out to be the next Stalin, instead of just another crappy President which is all he will be.

November 21, 2008 - 21:19 ET by bigtimerIAR...
While I posted the same opinion as you did regarding O and the internet to much the same extent...I sure do not appreciate for one second you acting as if this is somehow our fault out here that McC didn't win...it was all I could do to hold my nose and vote for the RINO...
As far as I am concerned you may want to look real hard and stick the fault of him losing on his own self...or didn't you notice how absolutely pathetic he ran his campaign and his own words and tactics along the way...
Give me a break...
Plus O is a far leftist who has a lot of questionable associates in more ways than one...it goes without saying he is going to be another rotten President, even if he is a legal President or not btw...it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
You need to take a lot of your anger out on the candidate and him alone...not a lot of us here.

BT...
November 22, 2008 - 00:55 ET by ImAllRightThing is, I'm not angry at all, just very dissappointed that it seems the country has past our party by. In the final weeks of the campaign McCain did try to use the strategy that Rush and Sean wanted and it hurt far worse than it helped. Many people here wanted him to go after Rev. Wright harder than he did Ayers, and part of that was the problem.
We had an immature (polticially, I won't personally attack him) politician running on slogans and broad generalizations for society and nothing more, and YES, McCain did FAIL miserably with his campaign. Much of it was his fault, and to an extent and it does suck to say this, but Gov. Palin is not free from blame either, as it became obvious through the results that the "Hanging out with terrorists," line did damage to her reputation more so than it did to O's.
What I'm trying to say is, that the entire party needs to look long and intently as to where the direction of the party will go next. Clearly there are many Christians here (I left the Catholic Church some 15 years ago) and they want the party to go one way, you have the old school business wing that may be fronted by Romney which will go another way, the new school young buck like Jindal, and the (seemingly) centrist group that is forming in line behind Pawlenty.
I think the downside may be that Gov. Palin is left out of this and thereofre has had her chance ruined, that is where my only anger in the matter lies, other than that its moreso an uneasy feeling.
Unless we find another great uniter like Reagan that could bring all of the aspects of our party together and not just run on one front, then I fear a civil war within the party may be on the horizon. This was an election that we needed not just for America, but as a party to be able to tread water long enough to prepare our fresher faces, which we now are not able to do just yet.
I'll give O credit where its due... this guy was able to REALLY make people see something in him that I HOPE I will soon see, he inspired millions young and old to actually vote...well for him anyway, in record numbers. I'll just hope that he does a good job and maybe even fire up a prayer that America stumbled into something good this time.
Whether it be taxes, foreign policy, dealing with the poor, or ending the corruption on Wall Street, I just hope this guy gets it right. If he can prove me wrong then I won't complain, but at the same time I hope the Republicans can find their way back to honesty (Stevens is gone...good first step) and doing what we did best, business and ethics, and we'll be fine. These are very unsure times now, and we all need to come toghether, as a party and a nation. As much as I didn't want O in office, I hope with all my heart that the Republicans help him and that he is true to his word at crossing over the aisle to get things done.
America always bounces back and this time is no different, except for the fact that this requires all of us and not just one side, hopefully O finds a way to bring all of us into the fold so that our party finds its way during good times and can eventually regain the presidency because we got America back on our side instead of having yet another failed Commander - In - Chief cause America to hand it too us just because.
Time for me to support my President and my country and watch as Bobby Jindal prepares to take the reigns in 4 years and navigate us further towards progress.
One step at a time I guess.

November 21, 2008 - 21:47 ET by RR GOPThe PTB don't like the internet. They don't like all the discourse going on between average people about them and what they're doing. They should, though-makes us easier to find.
It seems that the way it may go down is that they are trying to control CP or just porn in general, or terrorism...like they violate the Fourth Amendment because they 'think' you 'may' have drugs in your vehicle.
Obama doesn't strike me as one who handles criticism well. Anything less than a 90/10 win wasn't enough to reassure his ego. In his victory speech, he sounded uncomfortable in pretty much having to admit that almost half of us weren't buying his BS. BTW, how many times did he publicly mention Sean Hannity? Paranoia might be a trickle down thing if you know what I mean.
Also, here's an Eric Holder quote I saw on Hot Air:
"The court has really struck down every government effort to try to
regulate it. We tried with regard to pornography. It is gonna be a
difficult thing, but it seems to me that if we can come up with
reasonable restrictions, reasonable regulations in how people interact
on the Internet, that is something that the Supreme Court and the
courts ought to favorably look at. - May 28, 1999 NPR Morning Edition"

November 22, 2008 - 09:53 ET by SirWinstonChurchillWeb Censorship
November 22, 2008 - 11:25 ET by WorriedI think this will happen. I just read where his pick for AG wanted to censor the web after the Columbine shootings. My only hope is that since Google founders are BO's VBFs, they will try to stop it since advertising is the one thing all of these outlets, including AM radio, needs to keep going. Also, as the economy continues to dwindle, only those able to PAY for internet service will keep those providers going.
Even if BO becomes dictator, money is what makes the world go round and when there is no money, there will only be ANARCHY.
I say no.
November 23, 2008 - 03:55 ET by dodecahedronI think President-Elect Obama is naive and inexperienced. I don't (yet) think he's some evil dictator-in-training.
