If she wants to win, a third-party candidacy is not the way to go.

I really don't see a mish mush as a candidate, DEPENDING on the midterms in 2010, coupled with a strong showing in the state houses between now and '12. But at this point, I would put even ROMNEY in the mush unless he gets his own act together.
Without a doubt, Palin is the ONE person who has taken over the Bush barbs in this country. Note that nary a barb has been even thrown Jindal's or Romney's way, while Palin is undgergoing pointless investigation after pointless investigation. As long as it is a FREE MARKET CONSERVATIVE who's taken over, then we definitely can see a light at the end of a tunnel that, hopefully, hasn't collapsed and entombed us yet.
Speaking of Jindal: I am disappointed in his overt politicalization of minor issues in LA, while seemingly being a bit behind the times with the speed in which we need a strong, vocal constitutional presence. Obviously he has a state to run as his top priority, but I've seen signs that he's not ready to take over. At this point, from my own Libertarian mindset coupled with my innate trust in how people act, I believe Jindal would make a fine senator, and Romney would make a fine VP. Palin stands, clearly, above both at this time, especially in fiscal matters and constitutional adherence.

I think a dog catcher would have been a better choice what we have now. Basically we have a coward as an, ahem, leader that allows the animals to run the zoo. Very similar to another president, Clinton, cough, Clinton!
Palin can run in 2012 and be fine. I think this is what she wants to do and hopefully will. She has a bigger pair of cahonies than any many in DC right now, and any liberal anywhere.
When the people fear the government it's called tyranny, when the government fears the people it's called liberty!
It comes down to whether or not we have the numbers to defeat the McCainiac moderate-liberal Republicans and take control of the GOP. And whether or not we want Palin to be that leader.
One things for sure, the 'old guard' needs to be ousted. We don't need another 'big tent' Bob Dole or 'I'd rather lose gracefully than win bitterly' McCain as the nominee in 2012.

No presidential bid for Palin this go-round. I believe she will seek and hold a major leadership role within the conservative movement. I don't want to say "Republican" because, well, that's changing, but the underlying principles of conservatism remain.
Taking on a presidential bid would be back-to-back trauma for the children. The press relish in debasing and ridculing the Palin children in addition to the Governor and Todd.
But, taking on a flexible learship role would expose the Governor to many people across the nation, able to promote, rally, and educate the thousands that turn out to see her wherever she goes.
That, and to save the people of Alaska the waste of their tax dollars on deliberately baseless and frivolous lawsuits and charges ridiculously brought against her which would continue, and most likely, ramp up even more closer to election season. As long as she is Governor, her hate-filled foes will continue, with deliberation and malicious intent, in their egregious attempts to personally destroy the Governor and her family while, at the same time, draining the coffers of Alaska.
The only thing I'd add is that Palin doesn't play the "politics as usual" game....and she may be the only person in the game who may be able to get away with it.
guessing the governor, but I will take her at her word. Apparently that wouldn't help in the 'ratings game' so we will now be subjected to 24/7 Palin just a short week after 24/7 Jackson, which was just a few days after 24/7 Sanford!!!
This is an 'all-inclusive' statement about the media, Fox News included! If they only knew that we turn off the television when they go on and on and on about something. #1, Governor Sanford received far too much press time and told us all MUCH MORE information than we needed (or wanted) to know, #2 Michael Jackson was nothing more than a washed-up has-been who was trying to reappear as a worthy entertainer (and I think he might have realized he had bitten off more than he could chew with his tour) and #3 Sarah Palin is most certainly allowed to do whatever she darn well pleases WITHOUT each and every word being put under the microscope!
The media is losing bigtime every time they pull this National Enquirer stunt! Too bad they don't realize that some things are better left alone - report and then shut up! Don't have this one and that one on to analyze every 'if' and 'but' - most Americans really do have lives of their own and are not obsessed with all the nitty-gritty details of the lives of others. I realize there are many who have no lives of their own and fall for the View/Oprah schtick, but please know I have never watched either and will spend the rest of my life so doing.
I respect Sarah Palin - SHE was the reason we finally sent $$ to the RNC and SHE was the reason we could vote FOR the ticket rather than against the Democrat candidate. We have sent NO money since and will refuse to do so until they stop supporting wishy-washy RINOs rather than candidates with strong conservative values.
I cannot believe how the RNC and President Bush and Rick Santorum did all they could to keep that so-called Republican Specter in office. And John Cornyn says he will support RINO Crist over Rubio! The RNC will receive ZERO dollars from this household until they stop supporting 'middle of the roaders'!!!
Last, but not least, let's all remember to give those 8 Republicans - WITHOUT whose support the destructive Cap & Trade bill would NOT have passed - a call or two or three!

I picked other, as I really don't know. I suspect her family has said, Mom!, enough is enough, it's not worth it to us, get out of the spotlight. The attacks are constant and unwarranted. Obama was put under less than 1/1000 this much scrutiny, and look how the left complains how it's all unfair and racist. Hardly any investigation into numerous shady dealings within the corrupt Chicago political machine that spawned the incompetant Obama. Palin's bid was announced and immediately thousands (literally) of lawyers and 'reporters' flooded Alaska with cash in hand begging for dirt on Palin. All they came up with was a pregnant unwed daughter (irrelevant) and a phony ethics charge.
If the Bamster and his wife and daughters had been through the Palin treatment he would be crying like a little girl. The democratics own the old media, and this is what they do. We need to pick up the slack somehow.
favorite 'repellent' for any and all normal questioning!

The Klingon First Lady needs to be investigated vigorously about her 'no show' $300K job at University of Chicago Hospitals. She, and whoever organized that position have a political relationship with the sponsors of BO. That job was some kind of payoff, just like the magic $100,000 commodities profit Hillary Clinton 'earned' while Bill was governor of Arkansas was a payoff from the Tyson chicken people. Commodities trader, Robert L. Bone, went to jail over that. Somebody at University of Chicago Hospitals needs to enjoy a stretch in the joint as well.
Today's MSM will never do this. That is a change from the early Clinton years, when they would make a half-hearted effort to investigate this kind of wrong doing.
The egregious vote fraud in the election of Al Franken to the senate is another example of the MSM lacking any kind of journalistic ethics. Where is the investigation of this crime?
I think there's a good chance she could defeat Murkowski in 2010. Then she would be in a position to become better known in the lower 48 and ready to run in 2016 [or 2020, remember she's still very young].

I voted other because I believe the first, second and fourth answers all apply.
1. She's proven herself and doesn't need to expose her family to the abuse.
2. She's getting hit with frivilous ethics lawsuits which the liberals are using to drain her funds and will most certainly use them to discredit her in the future even though she beats the rap every time.
4. I think she will run in 2012 and needs the time to organize. I saw a post on another site that speculates that she would team up with Ron Paul. Whether she jumps the Republican Party or commandeers it is anybody's guess.
I think she is the strongest representative for the Republicans and they are doing her a disservice by ignoring her. Since the election, the RNC has sent me fundraising letters about once a week. I don't bother opening them any more. I simply throw them away. But the next time I receive one I will take the time to tell them that my money is on Sarah Palin.
would learn by now and save a little postage! Until they get their 'ducks in a row' and decide that conservative fiscal and social values are important in a Republican candidate, they will receive ZERO, ZIP, NADA from us!

She's stepping down because she's listening to some political hack advisor type who is giving her bad advice based on some poll some expert came up with. She will prove irrelevant anyway, because the age of BHO will go on through 2016 at least. I hate to say that because I really like Palin. There's no stopping BHO though because he will always be protected by the media.
I'm leaning that way myself. As another poster has already opined. if this is in advance of a scandal, what could have escaped the notice of her enemies, given their non-stop efforts to destroy her?
"I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them." George Mason
I voted other. She needs the money. She's been fighting all of these garbage ethics probes and she's got to pay for them. She can't go around the country on speaking engagements where she can get 100k per venue as Governor.
The only rational explanation for her resigning is that she is pre-emptively handling an impending scandal.
There is literally no other possible explanation. For any anything else that people are speculating she might be pursuing it would only make sense for her to finish her term.
Whether she is planning on running for senate, president, or working as a fundraiser, it would have made much more sense and strengthed her position had she finished her term.
Resigning from a governorship is a radical, bridge-burning decision. It's very possible that despite the impact and stigma or resignation, it was considered preferrable to resigning after news of a scandal breaks.
"Scandal is really the only possible explanation."
I don't know, it could be that she's pregnant with Willow's retarded baby....though I guess technically that would qualify as a scandal, because you just know Todd would be the father. That would be the only possible explanation, lol.
I say she is who she says she is...and has always made her own decisions (until the McCain staff got a hold of her) and I think she has taken her destination into her own hands once again.
It must have truly irked her to have these petty lawsuits (probably Soros-funded) come up like weeds every day. Politics has never seen such nasty goings-on in a long time. How I wish it would never happen again.
This woman and her family do NOT deserve the treatment they have received from both reputable and disreputable sources since August 2008. I say ENOUGH is ENOUGH and I wish her and her family well!

The only rational explanation for her resigning is that she is pre-emptively handling an impending scandal.
Leave it to a doofus to tell us what could be the 'only' explaination. Every other accusation of scandal, by the thousands of lawyers and 'journalists' who went digging in Alaska last August, was thrown out to the MSM immediately, with no proof, and reported on, only to be shown to be phony. Now comes along an idiot to say, 'This time there really is a scandal, just wait, we'll soon have proof, it's just around the corner, we're still digging, could break any second, and then you'll see, pant, pant, pant!' What a tremendous dolt!
I don't think we can hope that the democratic attack machine is going to call a truce on Palin. She remains a force in conservative politics, and the attacks will therefore continue. The state-law ethics angle will no longer work, but the democratics now have a much more powerful weapon, and that is, -control of the FBI and state prosecutors. If you don't think they will use that power for political gain, you don't understand the corrupt Chicago machine.
I hope that Palin will now begin a legal defense fund to help the family repair their financial situation.
IF she broke the law as some are insisting by giving SBS the hockey rink job in Wasilla in return for monetary favors, then she is plain guilty. It has nothing to do with the democrat attack machine or any other institution.
I believe the hype. This woman would never quit unless she absolutely had to.
Todd Palin and his buddies supposedly built his lake house by themselves, yet records show SBS was involved.
Palin did something wrong and that's the only explanation. I'm just curious to see how all the Palin superfans are going to respond when it turns out that she is guilty. Are they going to scrabble to excuse her and continue to defend, or will they accept the reality that was she never anything more than a hollow shell of campaign slogans and when it really came down to it, she was just the same as the rest...
I thought you said she was being investigated for embezzlement? Now you're saying something else. What's next, tying her to 9/11? Hey anybody know where Sarah was in September, 2001?
"Palin did something wrong and that's the only explanation."
No, that's your only explanation. Newflash, genius....I know you libs can't stand this fact, but you don't get to decide why someone else does something. Just because you would only resign because you were doing something wrong doesn't mean others are limited to those options.
If she's found guilty of wrongdoing, she should pay the price. In the meantime, until she's actually charged with something, or an official announcement is made verifying the existence of an investigation, I'll assume this is exactly what it is.....the wet dream rantings of yet another liberal loser.
So far, she is 15-0 against this swarm of ethics complaints. All baseless. This embezzlement business is likely no different.
SO ... don't you think it odd that all these baseless ethics complaints have been rasied, and don't you think it odd these suddenly increased in number right after Palin's nomination for VP?
I think its long past time someone started investigating these 'whistle blowers' to see if any of them have relationships with Palin's political enemies. I would expect all of them who complained after July 2008 do.
Making a false report of criminal wrongdoing is a felony in many states.
These Palin 'Whistle Blowers' need to receive the treatment, not because I believe this is necessarily a good thing, but because in the case of Palin, these people are so obviously politically motivated hacks who have no real evidence of wrongdoing to report and they know it.
Palin, herself, could not do this without being accused of scandal by the MSM, but with her elsewhere, the MSM, like the spoiled teenagers they emulate, will soon forget about Alaska to focus on really important things like Michael Jackson's wierdness. When this happens, Palin's Lt. Governor should move against these criminals. That will send a chill through that wing of the Obama shock troops.
I think most of the negative peanut gallery reaction here was instigated by one rotten nut in the bag, cacciato, who has raised charges of embezzlement and unpublished corruption against Palin without linking any references. Notice his irrational Palin hatred burning through? Where have we seen that before?
The big problem with Cacciato's theory is that it doesn't matter if she's governor of Alaska or in seclusion in Siberia, if there's a scandal, real or imagined, the media will run with it as long as they can. In other words, resigning won't do a thing to protect Palin from scandal, so why resign?
When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.
You're wrong. Resigning shields her from impeachment.
Cacciato,
That's all it gets her. If this scandal has any substance, it'll could still lead to criminal charges and a trial. Not being impeached is nice, but not enough to justify resigning.
When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.
Simple, -money. The family is broke from all the bogus ethics charges with no end in sight. New ones undoubtedly were in the mill. This is what slimeball democratics do.
From outside the Governor's office, she can raise money in PACs, in a legal-defense fund, from public speaking, and from a book, without generating more bogus ethics complaints. No more whining from liberals about time spent out of Alaska. The family can pay off their bills and begin building a war chest for the future.

...you ever stop to think that she needs to do this to pre-position herself for 2012 due to geography?
Think about it. Anchorage is a long damned flight. It's 5 hours out of Minneapolis, 4 hours out of Denver or SLC, and 3 hours out of Seattle. Assuming she wishes to head to Juneau, that's another 90 minute flight.
If she wishes to be a contender for the Presidency, she may have HAD to do this just to lay the groundwork.
"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)
She said it herself, she's a lame duck governor because the games that the MSM/SCM are playing and all the frivilous lawsuits against her are making her in effective at her job. I'm not sure of what her next move is, but she does command a lot more power than most people think.
Also, for those that still don't think a 3rd party candidate is possible? I laugh. It shows they don't have a clue as to what's going on in the country and they're still into playing the game chasing their tails. If one is not possible now, then I don't know when. The rolls of both Democrats and Republicans are dropping fast. I left the Republican Party months ago, and I can't even count how many I've heard that from as well. One of my friends has been a hard-core Republican for decades and he's finally had it with them a few months back. The Republican party no longer stands for what it used to, and if you think it still does, you're kidding yourself. The Democrats are facing the same issues. Both parties have been hijacked and blown up to FUBAR status.
It would take a miracle for the GOP to pull a politician that conservatives would trust in time for 2010 (and that's if the elections would be fair). Right now, they're still stumbling around trying to figure out if they're not conservative enough or too conservative. If they haven't gotten a clue now, then I don't suspect they will. Heck, even inside the GOP leadership there are plenty that hate Palin. The GOP killed themselves. Don't look for another 1996. It wont' happen. It's time we forget about the parties and vote on the people, their records and histories, and their values. We need people that are for the good of the nation, not for the good of the party. USA first, NOT Republican or Democrat first. Best line from Sarah Palin last night:
"I have taken the slings and arrows with that unpopular move to veto because I know being right is better than being popular."
If we had politicians that did the right thing vs. the popular thing, then we would not be in the mess we're in now. Heck, if we had voters who would vote on the right thing, vs. the popular "big eared" thing then we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now either. It's time we take our country back to values vs. popularity.
Palin's shocking announcement that she is resigning as Governor of Alaska rather than finishing her term, has terminated her future in state and national politics.
I greatly admire Sarah Palin. She was a breath of fresh air to American politics. But I'm torn between the Sarah Palin who is putting her family first, and the Sarah Palin who will not complete the job she was elected to do.
Her decision to resign must've been very painful. For one thing, her critics -- and that includes the backbiting snakes of McCain's dysfunctional campaign staff -- will crow that they were right all along. Many will analyze and re-analyze this decision for a long time, but the epitaph is clear . . .
It's funny how the filth on the left get highminded and giddy at the slightest possibilty of a scandal against a conservative. The media and people like our moronic friend here give new meaning to the term "Hypocrisy"
"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it."MM says...
When democRATS start hollering about such things you can bet that they are either already guilty of it or readily admit that they could engage in it.
The story here isn't how, allegedly, a Republican couldn't meet the standard of ethical behavior, but rather how democRATS and their apologists readily reject being held to any kind of standards and are proud to admit it.
"I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them." George Mason
Says the democrat clown who apparently believes everything anti-Palin he reads on some moron's blog, assuming you actually did, as I noticed you didn't exactly back up your claim. Let me guess, it's the same guy who broke the story claiming Sarah lied
about having Trig to cover up her underage daughter's pregnancy?
I'm pretty sure if Palin was facing a long, harsh embezzlement investigation, we wouldn't have to hear it from some obscure blogger typing in the dark in his mother's basement. It would be on every news channel, and every main stream blog, left and right.
The embezzlement story was from Max Blumenthal and Mudflats.
I don't believe everything anti-Palin and if she hadn't resigned, I wouldn't believe this story at all. But in tandem with her resignation, it looks plausible.
Seriously, having seen Palin in action for the past year, why do you think she'd resign? By all means, if you want to go out and cheerlead for her, go for it, but given the circumstances, I might withold my unabashed support if I were you.
Resignations on the Fridays before Holiday Weekends are always, always shady.
Exactly! The MSM put all allegations of scandal out as fact, before even investigating (if they even bothered). Why would they wait for proof this time? They wouldn't! If there was a whiff of a scandal, it would be on the news right now, the MSM would cancel all 4th of July coverage.
I would normally agree with you, but if that was the case, why would she step down? If this was just one more 'bogus complaint, why would she resign on the Friday of a holiday weekend?
As you noted, she has successfully battled all ethics complaints without batting an eye, but now she resigns?
If I was a Newsbuster, I wouldn't rush to defend her (like many did when the Sanford story first broke).
Actually, it wasn't "many" who defended Sanford, it was me.
Just me.
And believe me, I paid for it in spades around the office - I still haven't heard the end of that one...*rueful smile*
But the thing is...you're assuming guilt without evidence, just as I assumed innocence without evidence. I'm not saying she didn't run afoul of some ethics law, but in this country we have a lovely legal status for every suspect:
Innocent until proven guilty.
I erred on the side of Sanford's innocence, when all evidence pointed to his taking a hike in the Appalachians. You're erring on the side of Palin's guilt, when you have zero evidence to support that idea.
If you were a thoughtful person, you wouldn't rush to attack her.
Not only is it Innocent until proven guilty, in this case it's innocent until a charge is brought against Palin.
By the way Cacciato, it's cost Palin $500,000 in legal bills so far. Maybe that was the magic number that made her decide to quit. It would have made a difference to me in my income bracket.
Here is a nice liberal link, debunking rumors from the liberal blogs.
Despite rumors of a looming controversy after the Republican governor's surprise announcement Friday that she would leave office this month, some of them published in the blogosphere, the FBI's Alaska spokesman said the bureau had no investigation into Palin for her activities as governor, as mayor or in any other capacity.
"Some bloggers". Still not proof since we know that bloggers can say anything they want and hide behind a screen name. Name names, people who would know these things first hand, not heresay. Not just passing information they read on another blog.
I read on a blog that Katie Couric earned her promotions on her back, does that make it true? Might explain a few things, but doesn't make it true..
"Palin's shocking announcement that she is resigning as Governor of
Alaska rather than finishing her term, has terminated her future in
state and national politics."
I disagree. Sure, she may lose some support by the political junkies, but the main stream Americans, those who don't live and breath politics, will see this as just another grand Sarah moment.
You act as if the majority of Americans judge someone based on their ability to survive in politics, but you're wrong. The majority of Americans believe that the more politically connect a person is, the less connected they are to the "little" people, and the more they ignore or avoid the commitments, especially to family, that most Americans share.
This isn't going to harm Sarah's image to the majority of Americans, it will correct a false image of Sarah as just another power hungry politician who's putting her quest for power ahead of the needs of her family. Sara is the mother to a "special needs" child, as the press has been reminding us time and time again. She was accused of abandening her commitment to the needs that child in her bid for VP and by her position as Governor. By resigning, she now has the time to be the mother she needs to be. She now will have the time to care for her child, something she really doesn't have the time to do as Governor. That's a VERY noble sentiment, a selfless act, and America will notice, will sympathize with her and her family.
Believe me, America will notice, and remember, what will happen over the next few years concerning Sarah Palin. This was actually a great move for her. The spotlights will soon be pointed away from her and her family, she and they will grow stronger together, now that she can spend her time with them. Unlike the hollow words of other politicians, It's that strong family connection, that strong family value, that people will see and remember if, and when, Sarah decides to re-enter politics.
The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.
The US Constitution
If the spotlight is off her, how are people going to see and remember that strong family value if and when she re-enters politics?
"Sure, she may lose some support by the political junkies, but the main
stream Americans, those who don't live and breath politics, will see
this as just another grand Sarah moment."
Main stream Americans believe she's an idiot who is unqualified for office, courtesy of the main stream media. This move only confirms it in their mind.
It was already going to be a tough road for her before this, but it's official now...She's done.
But look real hard, because her political career is dead.
All this speculation about positioning for a Presidential campaign in 2012 or 2016 is totally inane.
She has resigned from a high executive office for whatever personal reasons.
Yes, the pressure has been high.
Yes, the attacks on herself and her family have been relentless and vicious.
But the public will never elect a President who has quit an executive office, no matter how admirable her motives.
Her resignation from the governorship terminates her chances for higher office. All this speculation on pre-candidacy strategy and positioning is pure nonsense.
She might get an appointment to some government post at some point in the future, but any election campaign is DOA.
It's over.
I wish her and her family the best, and hope that they can restore some sense of normalcy to their lives.
I know American politics. Politicians can rebound from election defeats. They can even rebound from personal failures and scandal.
But any opposition to Palin will merely point out that if she quit a governorship because it got to difficult, how in the world could she handle the Presidency. And they have a point.
I truly admire Sarah Palin, and I think the opposition -- and that includes the disingenous schmucks like McCain and his wormy former campaign advisers -- have done her an unwarranted wrong. But her strength was in standing up to it; in still being Sarah Palin despite the pressure.
She is a far more genuine human being that her detractors and even McCain.
But her decision to resign her governorship is politically fatal. She is well aware of that, and made her decision based on higher priorities.
She may tour the country. She may write a book. She may appear on TV programs. Hopefully, she can pay off her legal bills.
But she will never get elected to an executive state or national office again.
Where in her speech did she say she was quitting because it was too difficult?

The speculations of scandal are just more of the lying smear that has been spewed at her for the past ten months. Even as a speaker for conservatism, she is a mortal threat to the far left extremist propaganda that Obama represents.
BTW, "community organizer" is code for "communist". There are no conservative "community organizers", because we are not collectivists.
As for your backhanded obama insult, not sure what that has to do with Sarah Palin and her utter lack of ethics. Say what you will about Obama, but he's not the one being investigated by the Feds and the IRS.
but he's not the one being investigated by the Feds and the IRS. One, when you are referring to your God with pronouns, you need to capitalize the pronouns.
Two, you base the notion of Palin "being investigated by the Feds and the IRS" off of a blog, which is a source that lies beyond the ability to evaluate properly.
Critical thinking and source evaluation are skills that do not come easily to Leftists, are they?

" Say what you will about Obama, but he's not the one being investigated by the Feds and the IRS." Obama is not being investigated by his own investigators so he must be pure as the driven snow? You have given no proof of an investigation of Sarah Palin so you are a lying slanderer. And a troll to boot.
I have beeen told that cacciato is Italian for 'banished'. Personally, I thought that was incorrect. I think 'cacciato' is actually code for 'PopularTech'.

and I think she is stepping down so that Alaska can move forward.
She is leaving the state in good hands. I believe she will go out and help "Conservatives" win! If a Conservative democrat wants her she'll help them win too.
Mainly, I think Palin will go out and raise money for Conservative Republicans in an effort to defeat left wing pinkos and send SOBama and his agenda packing!

I think the continued visciousness 7 months after the campaign ended, along with the associated legal costs, have made it clear to her that a presidential run will never be successful. The nastiness will always be a distraction from what she's really saying.
Stepping down will take Alaska out of the spotlight and allow the governor's office to govern.
She sees that she can be a much more effective agent for change privately than as a politician. After all, that's why she entered politics in the first place, to change the corrupt status quo. Now she can attract the money and attention to changing things on a national scale. Money=change, just ask George Soros.
She wants her life and her family back as close to normal as possible, and still help steer the country onto a better course.
I wish her the best of luck in accomplishing both.
She's a classy lady who is actually thinking of her PARTY and her state.
If she knows she isn't running in 2010 then this is clearly the most honorable course to take. It doesn't leave anyone in the lurch. It allows for her party to position itself for the next election, and it removes all uncertainty on the governance of Alaska.
Let me put it this way, is anyone under ANY illusion as to what would happen in the State Controlled media with alternate scenarios.
1. She announces now she's not running in 2010. She's attacked relentlessly as a lame-duck, nothing is getting done, putting herself above her state blah de effin blah
2. She waits till mid-2010. She's attacked relentlessly for being so selfish as to quit without telling anyone in advance, she's ;leaving her party in the lurch, she's putting personal ambition above blah de effin blah..
I put it to you ladies and gentlemen that WHATEVER Palin did, or does, will elicit exactly the same mindless drone hostility. no matter what.
So she may as well does what feels best for her.
“For God's sake, somebody tell Obama that a TRILLION is one MILLION MILLION!!!!”
By that time, American Idol will be selecting our next "president," assuming, of course, that Barry Hussein Soetoro Obama hasn't managed to abolish congress after getting himself appointed Most Exalted Maximum Dear Leader for Life.

You must be kidding calling that story a scandal. First, it’s alleged just like the last 16 probes on the woman that were all thrown out. But a scandal? That she got her house built for free in exchange giving a contract to a construction company? I guess that would be considered a sweetheart deal.
Did you forget how Obama got his first home??? Rezko and foreign donors. That was a sweetheart deal. Don’t forget about those condemned slum houses in Obama’s district that he looked the other way from b/c Rezko owned them.
What about GE’s contracts from Obama recently?
As you may know, GE owns the MSNBC family of networks. GE CEO Jeffery Immelt is on Obama’s economic advisory board. Hmmmm. That would explain why the entire MSNBC family and a majority of it’s anchors dirty their knees for Obama on a daily basis.
So even if this “scandal” with Palin comes to fruition, I could care less. And I would like to thank Palin from the bottom of my heart for getting Michael Jackson off my TV screen this weekend. I’d much rather see her face than his.
If unemployment continues to rise past 10%, if people in this country keep getting taxed beyond belief while some arrogant clod like David Axelrod lie and tell the press that Obama lowered taxes for 95% percent of the population, if Obama keeps telling us that the nation should follow the model of California as it gives out IOU’s and goes bankrupt, this little episode with Sarah Palin will be easily forgotten.
"But a scandal? That she got her house built for free in
exchange giving a contract to a construction company? I guess that
would be considered a sweetheart deal. "
Yes, that's a scandal. Not to mention, highly illegal...
Ok then explain to me why Chris Dodd was allowed to run for president in 2008 after all of his scandals, all of the money that he used to get for his homes in exchange from political favors.
I have a feeling I know who you are troll, you appear on this site and the next right and your modus opperandi is to bait and switch with the facts.
You ignore Obama's mistakes he was allowed to run for president and win so all bets are off at this point. Obama out does Palin in the corruption department. if you want to continue to change the subject and make it as if this so called scandal which is ALLEGED and unfounded like all of the other probes that were unfounded then you belong in a mental institution. Perhaps that's were you're commenting from.
I chose "other" because I think two of the reasons listed apply.
First, I think she wants to get away from fighting the ethics scandals. As she said, she's spending an inordinate amount of time on them, interfering with her ability to govern; they're costing Alaska's taxpayers a ton of money; and they're threatening to bankrupt Palin and her family personally.
Second, I think she's positioning herself to run for president. Her base has been disgusted with the way she has been treated by her critics almost from day one of her vice-presidential run. If she no longer has to deal with the constraints that come with the governor's office, she can travel the country and fight back against the critics. I think her base wants to see Sarah Barracuda. She can also openly raise money and cultivate party contacts. She can work to get conservative Republicans elected to Congress next year. And she has time to get educated on the things she needs to know as POTUS.
It certainly is an unusual way to go, but that doesn't mean it won't work.
When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.
I realize that it's standard operating procedure for a politician to do whatever is in the short-term best interest for their political career, than to do what is in the best interest of the governed, but can anybody with even half a clue make an argument that what Palin did was NOT in the best interest of Alaskans?
If she hadn't resigned, there would certainly be a valid argument come 2010 or 2012, that she unnecessarily subjected Alaskans to the expense of DNC-orchestrated ethics complaints while she spent her time and focus on running for national office. (Never mind that Obama started his Senate campaign the minute he was elected to state office, and started his POTUS campaign the minute he was elected to the Senate; of course those were totally ethical moves, solely in the interests of Illinois voters; yeah, right!)
So, resign vs. stay is a moot issue, damned if she does, damned if she doesn't.
Next, the issue of her legal bills. As a governor, there are limits to what she can do in the realm of raising enough funds to survive a financial pissing match with Soros and the DNC.
While it might be gallant to keep turning the other cheek, it's not very bright.
As for the lying morons who try to paint Palin as some sort of uber-bible-thumper, the record doesn't support their fantasy. There are no documented (hearsay doesn't count) instances of her injecting her religion into her elected office, or even being significantly vocal about her religion in public (remember, not having an abortion is a "choice"). Hell, next to her, John Kerry sounded like John the Baptist during his campaign.
Next, there's a leaderless GOP standing idly by while some loser-@$$ McCainines who would have lost by 20 points if not for Palin, trying to blame their failure on the only person that kept them from being more of a laughingstock than AlGore or Ross Perot.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Palin become a leader of the growing number of TEA Party voters who keep getting screwed by the DNC and the GOP.
Think about it for a minute, she has more than enough ammo to paint both parties as the abject failures they are at serving the interest of the American people. She has a proven track record of cutting taxes, costs and waste in government, and didn't need eight years to get it done. Can anybody else make that claim? Do most average American citizens place that high of a priority on an elected official's ability to kiss UN or EuroTrash @$$? No!
For all of Obama's affirmative action college degrees and ghost-written books, his promised intellectualism hasn't borne much fruit, nor will it. And while Bush did keep the country safe and the economy relatively stable for seven years in the aftermath of Clinton's tech bubble, earnings fraud and decimation of our national security, the support of his family's political machine and the support of the extreme religious right didn't help him accomplish much else.
If she'll put up with the inevitable assault from the media/political/academic complex, Palin would be a great choice for a 2012 TEA Party candidate.
"According to some bloggers in Alaska, she's facing a "long-simmering embezzlement/IRS scandal"
and by God it's the facts and the law let's take it and run with it and trash Sarah somemore.
But just say I say according to a video osama bin obama is a muslim, a statement he made his own damn self then folks say I'm crazy. http://www.youtube.c.... I guess I forgot that he didn't have the sense to not say it because it's true but good old George wasn't gonna let the muslim get away with it and helped him correct it just in case anybody was watching.
I'm sure she's sick to death of her daughters getting hosed by everybody and Dave Letterman (who was once funny, but really went to the dark/bitter side after he missed the Tonight show...). That's probably part of it.
I'm sure she's sick to death of people insinuating that she's unstable, psychotic, possibly mentally ill, and the dumb cousin of true conservatives. That's probably part of it as well.
I'd be sick of politics if I were her, if constant smears are to what politics amounts.
Nobody knows if she's running for President or not. I tend to think that she isn't. But if she buys a house in Iowa...who knows? If she does, she's got her work cut out for her. Either way, I wish her the best.
Looking forward to 2010 I don't see a lot of upside to being a presidential candidate. Either Obama-ism works and he's a shoo-in for the 2nd term, or it is a complete failure (not much chance of a middle ground here) and the incoming president has a term or 2 just to right the economy and the ship of state. Who in their right mind would want to do that? Maybe one of the wonks types like Romney could tackle that task.
I think she's after Lisa Murkowski's senate seat in 2010 and wants to tone down the national exposure until then.
A few years in the senate and 2016 or 2020 leaves her in her mid 50s, still young enough for a presidential run.
I see 2012 shaping up as 1980 under Carter. Any Republican with a pulse will be able to win. Now this doesn't mean we should throw up just anyone with a pulse, because we need someone that will be able to reverse the Bamster disaster and repair the damage, otherwise democratics can come back in 2016 strong. A RINO will not do. Any version of Bamster-Lite will not do. We also have to guard against third-parties, otherwise democratics can squeak by as Clinton did in 1992.
She is an example of a Republican who actually practices what they preach.. Smaller goverment !!!!!!!!!
I see no problem with her taking a break from serving in the government, she passed the Governor Job to the Lt. Gov. The MSM and trools act like no one is going to answer the phones in the Gov. Office ...
Now she is free to travel and make some bucks on the speaking circuit. Not constrained by the office of Governor of Alaska..
She has won elections before she can win again.
Has everyone forgot her speech at the RNC? The left hasn't, not for one nanosecond.
This is classic Sarah Palin. This is how she works. All one has to do is go back and study her career. There is no scandal, at least not from her. The scandal is the fact that the democrat operatives, directed out of DC have cost the state of Alaska $2 million dollars filing bogus ethics complaints.
I mean she got a complaint for for having reporters interview her in her office! Got a complaint because she was photographed holding a friggin' fish! (she and Todd own a commercial fishing business)
It just got to be stupid. It was grinding government to a halt up there.
Sarah will be abler to pay her half million debt off easily, but who is going to pay the state of Alaska back for the money Barack Obama's thug army has cost it?
By resigning, she saved the taxpayers from further exposure. I've written a LOT about these losers up there, and there were more ridiculous ethics complaints coming!
When Sarah couldn't take down a bunch of corrupt Republicans from within her own agency (she was chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission) She resigned and committed "political suicide."
The result?
Sarah took down the entire leadership of the Republican party (which is why they still hate her) and took down the sitting Governor to become Governor herself.
This is not a conventional woman who does things like other people. Go back and actually listen to her speech. She just declared war on Obama, socialism, and anything that isn't conservative, productive, and well, good for America.
When I first heard she was resigning, BEFORE I heard the speech, I was kinda dumbfounded and in shock. But once her words reached my little brain, I realized exactly what she was saying, and doing.
I don't mind telling you guys that tears were running down my cheeks. Tears of joy. Tears knowing that I was watching a significant piece of history.
I think the fact that Sarah picked the 4th of July weekend to do this is COMPLETELY lost on many people. The symbolism is so strong, I think many just can't see it.
Sarah Palin has declared independence. The hunted has just become the hunter.
I don't think Sarah Palin gives a damn about being President, which is why she will be.
Sarah DOES care about America though. Again, go back and listen to what she is saying. Go back and read the transcripts if you must. Sarah is telling us that she will lead the charge. That she will be more than happy to take the fight to their front door.
Her basketball analogy is great. How many know that she was a star player?
Past that, how many know that she played the championship game with an injury that turned out to be a broken bone in her foot? She still played hard, and in the end, scored the game winning points!
I actually like how she ended her speech, quoting General McArthur: “We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”
I doubt anyone else in the world could pull this off, but Sarah can.
I don't think she has a huge desire to be President. But all of her supporters have a different idea on that. All of us want her to answer the call. And I'm pretty sure that in the end, she will.
But for now, she will help conservatives all over America take back Washington. Notice I said conservatives, not Republicans.
I think LT Governor Sean Parnell said it best at the end of his remarks to the people of Alaska:
"As Alaska celebrates her 50th year of statehood, I believe history will look
back on Sarah Palin as one of Alaska's great gifts to all peoples. You have
served honorably, Governor. God bless you."
Speaking for myself, I'd like nothing better than for her to eviserate her cowardly advesaries with a flanking manuever. But she just may be tired of the fight, and I don't blame her. She may want just to be with her family out of the political spot light and fade away.
I need to remind some around here of some words given on Election Night 1962 (or perhaps the next day). The quote is as follows (IIRC):
"You fellows in the press won't have Richard Nixon to kick around anymore, because this is my last press conference." This followed his unsuccessful bid for the governorship of CA.
Remember, this was November 1962. Who would have guessed he would run for President in 1968? His career was over in 1962, right?
"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)
Hopefully Gov. Palin is going to devote her time trying to light a fuse under this timid Republican Party (which is too scared to stand up for the principles it's supposed to believe in), to tell the truth about what's happening to our country, to articulate the kind of message that will resonate across this land, and to finally start kicking some flabby liberal butt!
We have NOT seen the last of Sarah. She is not going silently into the night. Note how her kids voted "4 Yes's and one Hell, Yes". Not exactly what her kids would say about her fading into the woodwork..
Baracuda's never retire and fade away. They come back fighting and out for blood. Watch out State-Run-Media and Dems!
All the above have merit, but I wouldn't dignify the charges brought against her as 'probes'. Pretty obviously just really nasty mud slinging.
How many more unemployed will it take to silence the far left with a hefty dose of reality. They're so damn 'intellectual' and all, they should be realizing that there is a huge disconnect between the reality of how bad things are getting and the declining love of Dear Leader.
But, I suppose they'll keep thinking that The One's election was some sort of Socialist mandate on the part of the American People and keep running with it.
Geez, think that after JFK/Johnson, Carter and Clinton they'd have a clue by now.
One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).
I posted a letter from her attorney in the thread where some moron is comparing her to Ross Perot.
Looking back, just before she went to NY, Sarah made a speech where she introduced Michael Reagan, up in Anchorage. In her speech she allowed this little pearl:
"Politically, I don't care if I live, or die, I'm not going to sit down, I'm not going to shut up!"
You guys thing Sarah Palin is going anywhere? If so, you're nuts!
This from her Facebook page today:
On this Independence Day, I am so very proud of all those who have
chosen to serve our great nation and I honor their selflessness and the
sacrifices of their families, too.
If I may, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the last 24 hours and share my thoughts with you.
First,
I want to thank you for your support and hard work on the values we
share. Those values led me to the decision my family and I made.
Yesterday, my family and I announced a decision that is in Alaska’s
best interest and it always feels good to do what is right. We have
accomplished more during this one term than most governors do in two –
and I am proud of the great team that helped to build these wonderful
successes. Energy independence and national security, fiscal restraint,
smaller government, and local control have been my priorities and will
remain my priorities.
For months now, I have consulted with
friends and family, and with the Lieutenant Governor, about what is
best for our wonderful state. I even made a few administrative changes
over that course in time in preparation for yesterday. We have
accomplished so much and there’s much more to do, but my family and I
determined after prayerful consideration that sacrificing my title
helps Alaska most. And once I decided not to run for re-election, my
decision was that much easier – I’ve never been one to waste time or
resources. Those who know me know this is the right decision and
obvious decision at that, including Senator John McCain. I thank him
for his kind, insightful comments.
The response in the main
stream media has been most predictable, ironic, and as always, detached
from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the “politics of
personal destruction”. How sad that Washington and the media will never
understand; it’s about country. And though it's honorable for countless
others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without
finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different
standard applies for the decisions I make. But every American
understands what it takes to make a decision because it’s right for
all, including your family.
I shared with you yesterday my
heartfelt and candid reasons for this change; I’ve never thought I
needed a title before one’s name to forge progress in America. I am now
looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our
values of less government intervention, greater energy independence,
stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint. I hope
you will join me. Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation
achieve greatness!
God bless you! And I look forward to making a difference – with you!
As I mentioned on another thread, I visit several other blogs: RedState, American Thinker, Michelle Malkin, and Fox Nation. The majority of those posting think this was a good move by Palin (As do I!).
I think one of the best gauges a Republican (read: conservative) can read to understand their effectiveness, is to simply look at the response of the Libs.
Seriously, If Palin was doing such damage to herself politically, why are the Dems and Drive-Bys (and RINO's) coming out of the woodwork to inform her of the great mistake and error she's making in her resignation as Governor?!?!
If I saw my enemy destroying themselves, I'd simply get out of the way and let them finish their own self-destruction!
We're watching fear on the part of the Left...pure and simple!
Most people are out in left field on this. Especially the small minded scumbags in the media. Sarah Palin is first and foremost a wife and a mother. She did this for her family. I don't think she's interested in a national campaign in 2012.
Hopefully Letterman, Dowd, Begalia, and every Kos kid living at home with their mother will finally let the lady live in peace. She deserves it. She's better than the whole lot of the bastards.
Whether it be the the rumored trouble with the Wasilla Sports Complex and her house or something else, I think its damage control. Its pretty clear it was a hasty announcement. So perhaps this week will bring to light whatever it is. If its an indictment, she is going to look very disingenuous because of that speech.
I didn't mention the details because that would be spreading the rumor.I might get sued!
“To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska
blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as “fact” that Governor Palin
resigned because she is “under federal investigation” for embezzlement
or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this
week to address such defamation. This is to provide notice to Ms.
Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington
Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the
Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without
answering to this in a court of law. The Alaska Constitution protects
the right of free speech, while simultaneously holding those
“responsible for the abuse of that right.” Alaska Constitution Art. I,
Sec. 5. http://ltgov.state.ak.us/… These falsehoods abuse the right to
free speech; continuing to publish these falsehoods of criminal
activity is reckless, done without any regard for the truth, and is
actionable.
And I said it may be something else. Thats PJ Gladnick 101, "rumor" and "something else" being the operative words.
I also find it peculiar Palin's lawyer is threatening to sue bloggers.
I don't know what it is. I'm speculating. Perhaps she could end the speculation and do a press conference and actually answer a few questions? Don't you think she owes her voters in Alaska that? If this was a Democrat governor, you know you wouldn't accept the timing and vague reasons of her resignation, 2 1/2 years into her term. Other than most ardent Palin head, I don't think you can find a person who doesn't find it odd.
I'm speculating. I also said it could be "something else." That covers a lot of ground! I also said "if" it turns out to be legal problems, she will look very disingenuous. I didn't say "when" I said "if."
Once I read an article that stated the Palin camp informant had come forward and was identified. Now in an effort to get this hot little tidbit to press, a couple of news agencies and at least one blogger, didn't realize they were taken in by a hoaxer. The person making this claim was never in the McCain or Palin camp. Now when this came to light, after stories were written, a couple of news agencies reported they were tricked by a hoaxer. At least one blogger shifted the blame onto someone else by saying a Fox News reporter covering the McCain camp, "might have been taken in by a hoaxer." Forget the fact the blogger WAS taken in by a hoxer, the news here is the reporter "might" have been. "Might" being the operative word.
I mentioned it :) "Mentioned" being the operative word. See I had to say it was sport complex rumor to differentiate it from other rumors. If I just said "rumor", you might think I'm referring to the pregnancy or "Appalachian trail" (euphemism for extramarital sex) rumor. Now that would have been irresponsible
She stated she is doing what is best for her family and her state.
I believe she is going to be making speeches in support of Republican candidates in 2010 and did not want to short change either her family or state by taking too much time away from her duties.
This will be used by the left-wing extremist whackos' continuing attempt to destroy her.
She is a woman of principle and is living by them.
I believe that it's a combination of 1, 3, and 4. Being the Governor of Alaska, it's difficult for her to answer all of the attacks and concentrate on her job. It's quite apparent that the Democrats want to make her life miserable, not only as governor but also as a potential presidential candidate. She's removing their ability to do that and, come next election they're going to have to run on the issues against a candidate that has actual experience in office. I believe that, what she did, went beyond just political calculation and went into one that has given her party a chance to retain the governership and gives her a chance to fulfill per political asperations, whatever they may be.
One thing is apparent, the Democrats are really, really worried about her. HOw else would one explain the way the media have gone after her? They've been relentless, have tolerated attacks on her family, and have been brutal in their attacks on her. I heard Cynthia Tucker trying to compare this to Hillary Clinton, sorry Cynthia, nice try but way different. This is what the attacks would have been, on Hillary, had she been a Republican.
Election 2008-God's way of showing us that elections count.
She will run for president in 2012. She is perfectly positioned to do so. And why exactly is she not supported more by Republicans. Because she is "damaged goods"!!??? She is the only one so far with the backbone to stand up to the ridicule of the critics, and the GD media libs. It has been painful for her and her family, but , they're knee deep in it now, there is no sense runnuing and hiding. Besides I think her family members are as strong as she is and they would all love to show the "critics" that they are TUFF. I fear some republicans will not support her to avoid being labeled and ridiculed themselves. Too Bad, get your own backbones and fight with us, or get the hell out. Time will tell on all the corrupt press and dems. Get behind Palin, our current best hope of success. Or find me someone who is perfect. BACKBONE!
Considering that Sarah and Todd Palin are not independently wealthy, I suspect that Sarah is resigning from her position as Governor of Alaska because she's gotten a better offer somewhere else - and I don't mean as Governor. It is very common when an executive resigns to take a different job, they may give a LOT of notice (as she has) and they may choose NOT to disclose where they're going until a more appropriate time. Whether she has a book deal, or will be speechifying around the country or will go on the payroll of a major company, I respect Sarah Palin for not doing it on Alaska's dime, as so many other politicians do. She said that Alaska is paying her to be the governor, so if her heart and her attention are elsewhere, she owes it to Alaska to step down. Here, Here Sarah!
That said, I don't really see her as a key Presidential candidate in 2012, and I don't think that's what she plans to do.

July 4, 2009 - 17:26 ET by gopcongressI really don't see a mish mush as a candidate, DEPENDING on the midterms in 2010, coupled with a strong showing in the state houses between now and '12.

July 4, 2009 - 09:17 ET by BondPlainBondNo presidential bid for Palin this go-round.
That sums it up neatly, Bond
July 4, 2009 - 10:44 ET by BlondeThe only thing I'd add is that Palin doesn't play the "politics as usual" game....and she may be the only person in the game who may be able to get away with it.

July 4, 2009 - 13:41 ET by Cape Conservativeguessing the governor, but I will take her at her word.

The Klingon First Lady
July 5, 2009 - 09:08 ET by NL207The Klingon First Lady needs to be investigated vigorously about her 'no show' $300K job at University of Chicago Hospitals.

Now comes along an idiot to say, 'This time there really is a scandal, just wait, we'll soon have proof, it's just around the corner, we're still digging, could break any second, and then you'll see, pant, pant, pant!' Re Explanation
July 4, 2009 - 12:28 ET by slickwillie2001I don't think we can hope that the democratic attack machine is going to call a truce on Palin.
Slick, IF she brok the law
July 4, 2009 - 13:00 ET by CacciatoSlick,
IF she broke the law as some are insisting by giving SBS the hockey rink job in Wasilla in return for monetary favors, then she is plain guilty.
I thought you said she was
July 4, 2009 - 13:35 ET by ckc1227I thought you said she was being investigated for embezzlement?

Resignation would not shield Palin from scandal
July 4, 2009 - 13:38 ET by nkviking75The big problem with Cacciato's theory is that it doesn't matter if she's governor of Alaska or in seclusion in Siberia, if there's a scandal, real or imagined, the media will run with it as long as they can. In other words, resigning won't do a thing to protect Palin from scandal, so why resign?

July 4, 2009 - 13:51 ET by slickwillie2001Simple, -money.

Geography
July 4, 2009 - 20:01 ET by Unsane...you ever stop to think that she needs to do this to pre-position herself for 2012 due to geography?
Think about it. Anchorage is a long damned flight. It's 5 hours out of Minneapolis, 4 hours out of Denver or SLC, and 3 hours out of Seattle. Assuming she wishes to head to Juneau, that's another 90 minute flight.
If she wishes to be a contender for the Presidency, she may have HAD to do this just to lay the groundwork.

She's tired of the games
July 4, 2009 - 10:53 ET by TuariShe said it herself, she's a lame duck governor because the games that the MSM/SCM are playing and all the frivilous lawsuits against her are making her in effective at her job.
It's time we take our country back to values vs. popularity.
She will never get elected to public office again
July 4, 2009 - 11:02 ET by GalvanicPalin's shocking announcement that she is resigning as Governor of Alaska rather than finishing her term, has terminated her future in state and national politics.
Many will analyze and re-analyze this decision for a long time, but the epitaph is clear . . .

I erred on the side of Sanford's innocence, when all evidence pointed to his taking a hike in the Appalachians. You're erring on the side of Palin's guilt, when you have zero evidence to support that idea.
If you were a thoughtful person, you wouldn't rush to attack her.
Not only is it Innocent
July 5, 2009 - 12:21 ET by Radical1979Not only is it Innocent until proven guilty, in this case it's innocent until a charge is brought against Palin.
By the way Cacciato, it's cost Palin $500,000 in legal bills so far. Maybe that was the magic number that made her decide to quit. It would have made a difference to me in my income bracket.

July 5, 2009 - 12:34 ET by ParagrouperHere is a nice liberal link, debunking rumors from the liberal blogs.
Despite rumors of a looming controversy after the Republican governor's surprise announcement Friday that she would leave office this month, some of them published in the blogosphere, the FBI's Alaska spokesman said the bureau had no investigation into Palin for her activities as governor, as mayor or in any other capacity.

July 4, 2009 - 12:09 ET by CobraMan"Palin's shocking announcement that she is resigning as Governor of
Alaska rather than finishing her term, has terminated her future in
state and national politics."

July 5, 2009 - 17:48 ET by GalvanicI know American politics.
You can bank on it.

The political pundits are NOT the majority of Voters in this country and do not speak for the majority either.
She did the right thing for the State and her family.

July 4, 2009 - 13:08 ET by LorraineI think the continued visciousness 7 months after the campaign ended, along with the associated legal costs, have made it clear to her that a presidential run will never be successful.

SCANDAL???
July 4, 2009 - 13:23 ET by MrltavernYou must be kidding calling that story a scandal.

The rationale for my choice
July 4, 2009 - 13:49 ET by nkviking75I chose "other" because I think two of the reasons listed apply.
Crazy Like A Fox
July 4, 2009 - 14:17 ET by Junk Science SkepticI realize that it's standard operating procedure for a politician to do whatever is in the short-term best interest for their political career, than to do what is in the best interest of the governed, but can anybody with even half a clue make an argument that what Palin did was NOT in the best interest of Alaskans?

July 4, 2009 - 15:06 ET by IamTinmanLooking forward to 2010 I don't see a lot of upside to being a presidential candidate.

Reagan VS Liberalism
I touched on this in the
July 4, 2009 - 17:42 ET by Gary P JacksonI touched on this in the Begala thread.
I've written a LOT about these losers up there, and there were more ridiculous ethics complaints coming!
http://thespeechatimeforchoosing.blogspot.com/2009/06/face-of-democrat-insanity.html
Indeed.
Wishful Thinking???
July 4, 2009 - 18:10 ET by OneCleverCookieSpeaking for myself, I'd like nothing better than for her to eviserate her cowardly advesaries with a flanking manuever. But she just may be tired of the fight, and I don't blame her. She may want just to be with her family out of the political spot light and fade away.

July 4, 2009 - 20:13 ET by UnsaneI need to remind some around here of some words given on Election Night 1962 (or perhaps the next day).

July 4, 2009 - 20:47 ET by metaphorsbwithuHopefully Gov.

July 5, 2009 - 01:04 ET by RR GOPAll the above have merit, but I wouldn't dignify the charges brought against her as 'probes'.
I posted a letter from her
July 5, 2009 - 01:44 ET by Gary P JacksonI posted a letter from her attorney in the thread where some moron is comparing her to Ross Perot.
Sarah
Gary, thanks for posting this!
July 5, 2009 - 01:57 ET by SvenAs I mentioned on another thread, I visit several other blogs: RedState, American Thinker, Michelle Malkin, and Fox Nation.
Most people are out in left
July 5, 2009 - 07:00 ET by marvlMost people are out in left field on this.
God bless Sarah Palin.

“To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska

resigned because she is “under federal investigation” for embezzlement
or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this
week to address such defamation.

rumored trouble with the Wasilla Sports Complex
July 5, 2009 - 09:04 ET by Free Stinkerrumored trouble with the Wasilla Sports Complex
That is laughable. If there was a problem, how come the Democrats didn't use it last fall ? You know, during the campaign?
Are you telling us the army of lawyers they sent to Alaska missed something big, or worse, they found something and failed to use it?
Believeing the theories of Bizarro Shawn requires the willing suspension of disbelief.
I said it was a rumor
July 5, 2009 - 09:36 ET by nwahsAnd I said it may be something else.

Jesus Loves You so much He died for you
No let me explain
July 5, 2009 - 10:23 ET by nwahsOnce I read an article that stated the Palin camp informant had come forward and was identified.
I learn quickly.

July 5, 2009 - 09:19 ET by cocodrieShe stated she is doing what is best for her family and her state.
I believe she is going to be making speeches in support of Republican candidates in 2010 and did not want to short change either her family or state by taking too much time away from her duties.
This will be used by the left-wing extremist whackos' continuing attempt to destroy her.
She is a woman of principle and is living by them.
Jesus Loves You so much He died for you
It's other for me.
July 5, 2009 - 10:26 ET by pbthinkerI believe that it's a combination of 1, 3, and 4.
BACKBONE!
July 5, 2009 - 11:17 ET by vote24She will run for president in 2012. BACKBONE!

July 5, 2009 - 20:33 ET by Secret ConservativeConsidering that Sarah and Todd Palin are not independently wealthy, I suspect that Sarah is resigning from her position as Governor of Alaska because she's gotten a better offer somewhere else - and I don't mean as Governor.
