How to choose between two
October 7, 2008 - 21:58 ET by ApacheHow to choose between two losers?
ABC is soooo stupid
October 7, 2008 - 22:03 ET by ThisnThatI watched ABC (Gibson) interview students tonight, asking them if they are for Obama or McCain -- especially since the economic crisis might affect their ability to get student loans/handouts.
One of the students was 27 years old, and couldn't make up his mind. Why was he chosen? 27 years old and still in college?
My son is 27. A college grad, and on his second tour in Iraq. I'm really, really tired of hearing from all these hanger-ons.

October 7, 2008 - 22:07 ET by dcullingMe thinks there's some wish fulfillment represented in the poll here which currently shows 89% McCain and 11% Obama.
I'm disappointed in John's performance. I don't think either one will get a bump from this debate, but if someone does it will be Obama.
Stand up John!
Stand up and fight dammit!
Interesting, though, that
October 8, 2008 - 05:22 ET by ThisnThatInteresting, though, that Fox News showed its own call-in poll at 6:00am this morning with exactly the same results: McCain 89%; Obama 11%.

That One...
October 7, 2008 - 22:17 ET by ImAllRight"That One"
Geez, McCain needs to watch those words better. It came off very condescending and rude, not Presidential at all.
I hope it doesn't hurt him too much but that will be the sound bite that we all hear for the next few days...and its not because it was a positive.

October 7, 2008 - 22:20 ET by TheAssessorI feel like I've been magically beamed into the old Soviet Union where they send out a ballot, you pretend to vote for someone and everyone knows it doesn't matter anyway. Had a family round table tonight - extended family that I don't see that often, more Dems than Repub. but to-a-tea they are angry and no longer paying much attention to what the pols are saying. They don't like it but they all feel safer with McCain and he's getting their vote. Most of them Dems.. unusual for this kind of turn. They are sick of the racist crap and boiling over about the economy. So that's just a slice of average America here in upstate NY, traditionally a blue state, but from what I see the dems I know are going the other way. Couldn't stand listening to bumbles so waited for the wrap up. Drudge has McCain winning so I'm going to keep hope alive.

"Town Hall" as Phony as Obama's Greek Columns
October 7, 2008 - 22:24 ET by pumapurrMcCain is great at real town halls. This was a bunch of talking points BS, screened, rescreened, vetted and revetted... why? Because McCain is great at REAL town halls and Obama is not. They couldn't allow that. So they made up a "town hall" as phony as Obama's plywood greek columns. This was no "town hall". No, this thing was more structured than the Golden Gate Bridge.
Still, McCain came off as the real deal. Obama was on defense. And Omama even stupidly pointed out that McCain thinks he is "green" etc. Well, thanks for reiterating that, idiot! Saves McCain another pass.
The MSM wouldn't give it to McCain unless he cured cancer in mid-sentence AND if Obama actually murdered a vet and a kitten on camera. Even then, it would be a "draw".

The MSM would have spun it: "Obama stops McCain from killing cancer ridden kitten at vets office"

It's over...
October 7, 2008 - 22:27 ET by deeba33John just didn't come across well tonight. He really needed to KO Obama to have a chance, and I didn't see that happen... Obama seemed cool and in command, while John just seemed to be irritated and reaching for a haymaker that kept missing his opponent.
That doesn't mean it's over.
October 8, 2008 - 00:18 ET by mattmThat doesn't mean it's over. I don't remember W winning very many debates, so...who knows?

I can understand McCain
October 8, 2008 - 00:15 ET by mattmI can understand McCain getting the nod here at NB, but how can it be so lopsided? I admit, I saw little of the debate, but what I saw made me think McCain lost, if just barely. Obama lied (at least about the Fannie Mae stuff which I heard), but he did it with such slickness that the lies don't count against him on debate points.
This was a performance and Obama is a better perfomer. Sadly, many people will vote for him for that reason alone. Although, he seemed a bit more arrogant, glib and smug than usual.
The worst question I heard was the "Manhattan Project on energy alternatives" question. How idiotic. To compare government funding of a wartime necessity to something like energy, which is a priority, but not a national emergency - like a war, is absolutely ridiculous.
I turned of the TV at that point. I doubt McCain had the wits to expose the vapidity of that question, but I tuned out and spent the rest of the time helping my daughter with her homework.
Disaster
October 8, 2008 - 08:21 ET by JDWNever forget the stupid questions posed by Brokaw let alone his inability to contain them within predefined time limits.
We realize Obama voted for higher taxes 94 times, opposed offshore drilling, proposed hundreds of billions in new government spending... and last night, Obama once again told everyone just the opposite. Enough of the same. I want to hear someone on our team with the cajones to explore Ayers, Wright, Rezko...
Someone tell McCain his mortgage buy back II is daft.
I watched it this morning and fast forwarded through a great deal.

I selected Neither
October 8, 2008 - 00:27 ET by HumblepieBoth stunk up the room more than my garbage. McCain kept stretching out the answers while Obambi talked around them. Only saving grace was that John was finally able to get into the groove. Unfortunately, there was only five minutes left. Bad performance on both sides. McCain really needs to stick it to Obambi on the last debate if he wants a strong finish.
Quick! The gene pool needs more chlorine.
I feel bad for Palin
October 8, 2008 - 03:48 ET by DaMavShe set the play up, handed McCain the ball, and he fumbled it in the lane.
Mr. I will Control Spending comes out with his big play -- another 300 billion dollar giveaway program, complete with more government power over the economy. He seems to be trying to out-ACORN Obama!
Not a word about any of the winning issues for Republicans -- values, gun control, Ayers -- nothing. Don't blame Brokaw. Palin showed him how to do it. If the moderator doesn't ask the right questions, just start talking about what is important. McCain fell right back into the trap.
Even on Afghanistan he gave Obama a pass. Here's Obama talking about how great our troops are -- why didn't McCain bring up the quote about them only bombing villages and killing civilians? Obama is being allowed to bury his radical viewpoints by the MSM, but McCain is actually helping them.
It's a little late to dump the top of the ticket, but I really wish it could be flipped. Tonight was a disaster.
Town Hall Meeting...
October 8, 2008 - 04:38 ET by Dan LaHoodwhat a joke, this format was death to anything like the spontaneity of a Town Hall Meeting. The biggest loser of the night was the much ballyhooed "undecided voter". Al, Tom, Oliver et al, what a bunch of dullards. You can't make up your mind if you don't have one.
Anyone who has ever heard Santayana's famous quote about History repeating itself is condemned to repeat it.
The Debate
October 8, 2008 - 10:31 ET by NKurucMaybe it's just me, but it seems like this election has been going on for years. Obama has basically done nothing as a U.S. Senator but run for POTUS. Ever move, every speech, every interview has been conducted with one goal in mind. The only bill he has sponsored was actually simply partnering with some one else on a very safe issue. It's a joke how the so called majority of likely voters trust him more than McCain with the economy. What has he done to prove that he would be more competent? His argument of giving a tax decrease to 95% of America is a joke. It has no validity. Any yet he will probably be elected unless the electorate wakes up and says......"what the hell are we doing?". Personally, I don't know how his political machine can be beaten. I guess what this country needs is to elect this "empty suit" to see how absurd and outwardly misleading his campaign has been.
HOW TO LOSE THE DEBATE
October 8, 2008 - 14:10 ET by northoneMy friends, here is how you go about losing the debate (and probably now ensuring Obama wins the White House):
Do not be too critical of your opponent.
Do not show a great deal of passion.
Do not mention people like Barney Frank or Chris Dodd and their role in the current economic crisis.
Do not raise questions of Obama's character and his association with people like Bill Ayers and the Reverend Wright.
Do not mention that two Fannie Mae executives are currently advising Obama.
Just ramble on how much you love your country and that you're prepared to throw Conservative principles aside, namely your plan to buy up and renegotiate all the troubled mortgages, while at the same time trying to convince people that Obama has plans to spend lots of money.
McCain is a complete dud. He is not a true Conservative, and after last night's performance, he's toast. Time for the Republicans to do some soul-searching and start over with some fresh blood and some new ideas that do not betray Conservative principles. We knew this guy was a potential disaster from the beginning, and last night's debate simply confirmed it. Better luck in '12!
