Eagles
January 17, 2009 - 17:27 ET by KC MulvilleI'm a Philly boy who lives in Baltimore. My wife and kids are all pulling for the Ravens.
There's gotta be a country song in there somewhere ....
A country song, KC?
January 17, 2009 - 19:02 ET by JerHow about...
Ah'm jest a good ole boy from Baltimore,
But Philly is my pick.
The ole lady got me really sore,
Cuz she's a Ravenlunatic.
So I shot her.

But where's the lonesomeness?
January 17, 2009 - 19:49 ET by KC MulvilleNot bad, but I'm from Philly, not Bawlmer. We need to have me crying by the Boulevard, swigging my last drop from a Schmidt's beer bottle (and if the Eagles lose tomorrow, I will be).

January 17, 2009 - 19:59 ET by JerLonesome? I've still got the kids, the dog, and my pick-up.
Wild stabs just for the heck of it [I've never lived north of the Mason-Dixon line.]
--I know Duncan Renaldo was the actor who played the Cisco Kid...but maybe you're referring to a sports star
--I've heard of the Chicken Man, but I'm drawing a blank...maybe a mascot for the Phillies/
--the Liberty Bell?
I have a feeling I'm 0 for 3.

January 17, 2009 - 17:33 ET by sms5217Normally, when I don't like any of the teams playing for the championship games or SB's I don't watch. However, given the all-Obama media slobber-fest, the general mood of having watch Dems gloat, and the malaise of the right/conservatism, I want ANY escape, and this might as well be it.

January 17, 2009 - 17:44 ET by fitzfongThis is a tough one. I want it to be the Cardinals and Steelers. Larry Fitzgerald is such a talented and classy player. But I think the Ravens are going to beat the Steelers (the two games this year were close, they have some righteous indignation about both losses, they have some momentum, and, let's face it, they're a bunch of thugs...they might just win by beating up the Steelers). I should root for the Ravens, as I think one of their receivers went to my high school, but I can't do it. And as I see it, the NFL will do anything in its power to hand the NFC title to the McNabbs...they've been propping up that overrated egomaniac for years, why stop now? If it's close, look for a phantom holding or roughing the passer call to push Philadelphia into the Superbowl. I'm sure the writers are hoping for a Philly/Pittsburgh matchup so they can run that Limbaugh "controversy" into the ground...again.

Maybe subconsciously that is why I.......
January 18, 2009 - 07:39 ET by old crovoted Steelers/Cards. You are right - if it is Steelers/Eagles the left will relentlessly denigrate Rush (a huge Steeler fan) over the McNabb (Philly quarterback) "controversy" - the simple comment he made stating McNabb was overrated and cut a lot of slack by writters because he was black and they were desirous of a black quarterback succeeding. (I hope that is correct in a nutshell - I also agree) They also will play it up so to "motivate" Philly and the perseption of "bad" Pittsburgh /Rush association vs. "good" McNabb/Duh1. (I hope am not sounding like your typical democrat, but I believe the "colorblind" leftist' will make that link)
Being from the steel city, I have always enjoyed the athleticism of Larry Fitzgerald from when he played college ball at Pitt. (a young Lynn Swann clone only at this stage better - no offence to Lynn, PA's next governor, I wish) Curt Warners short passing game and the trio of Fitz, Bolden and Steve Breaston (a graduate of my alma mater) would give the Stillers all they could handle, if they should win today.
Pit/ Philly would also give Pit a chance to payback Philly for the wuppon they gave us week 3.
Whomever.... I just hope we beat the Ravens today.

January 18, 2009 - 10:05 ET by Roger the ShrubberFtiz was a machine at Pitt, wasn't he?
I hope the Stillers make it, and a part of me wants the Cards to make it, if just to see Fitz, Russ Grimm and Kevin Wisenhunt make it. Grimm is a hometown boy, too!
Yes he was.........
January 19, 2009 - 03:47 ET by old croand had a great game yesterday. At Pitt he conducted himself with class and had respect for the game and it's history, still does. I always wished Pittsburgh drafted him, but he went to low. He's humble also, not as much as Polamalu (the epitome of the soft-spoken, humble kinda guy, see his interview after the game). Grim was great at Pitt, and as a hog for the skins. Seems like a Pittsburgh homecoming superbowl this year.

January 19, 2009 - 07:33 ET by Roger the ShrubberThe icing on the cake will be Rod Woodson making the Hall of Fame. Who knows, maybe Grimm will make it, too. I duobt it, but Dermontti Dawson has a shot.
All this makes the Steelers haters go crazy, haha.
It was bad enough when
January 18, 2009 - 12:41 ET by fitzfongIt was bad enough when McNabb played victim over the Rush Limbaugh comments. Any self-promoting opportunist would take full advantage of the sycophantic press coverage that followed. But when he made the self-pitying comparison of Terrell Owens' criticism of his Superbowl performance to "black-on-black crime", I lost what little sympathy I already had for him. McNabb is a clown. Go Cards!

I concur
January 17, 2009 - 20:10 ET by third eyeI grew up rooting for the Eagles but now that I live in the Baltimore area Ill admit to being a Ravens fan, if for no other reason than if my computer ever breaks, I feel Joe Flacco could probably come and fix it.

January 17, 2009 - 17:53 ET by bigtimerHey, hey, hey...I was just posting about this on OT...too funny.
I picked Cards/Steelers...
I'm sure hoping anyway!
There the only two teams left I've pulled for and bet on this year.
Thank goodness there is football tomorrow, I can't take anymore politics...this at least will bring me some enjoyment TV wise for a day/evening.
Where?

Why you just pushed it. ;-)
I'm going out on a limb...
January 17, 2009 - 18:16 ET by CobraMan... and predict that it doesn't matter which teams make it to the Superbowl as The Game will be called due to a blizzard anyways. After all, the Superbowl will be held in Tampa, Florida, right? The climate in Tampa isn't much different than in you normally find in Vegas (other than having much more moisture), and we all know what happened in Vegas this year. Heh.

Go Steelers...
January 17, 2009 - 21:25 ET by Clear thinkerI really don't care who plays the Steelers, just so long as they make it to the Super Bowl I will be happy. I'll be even happier if they win!!!

January 17, 2009 - 21:25 ET by richb313On the poll you forgot to include one catagory: I Don't Care
Thats right, I don't care. I have given up on all professional and I am sad to say College sports as well. To much greed, too much money, too much me, me, me.

I don't have a dog in this
January 17, 2009 - 22:12 ET by ConservativeRexI don't have a dog in this fight (not a reference to M. Vick).
I voted for Cards/Ravens. But hell, the way my picks have been going in the last six months (nod to McCain) it'll probably be the exact opposite of these teams.
easy one for an old vet
January 18, 2009 - 09:59 ET by CatherwoodI thought at first the winner would be the Baltimore Colts or the Los Angeles Rams. Then I thought the Houston Oilers or the St. Louis Cardinals might have a chance. I quickly realized that those teams which played with such class and style have been replaced by the Dreadlock Rappers and the Endzone Dance Stars. I reflected for a moment on Alan 'the horse' Ameche's sudden death run, Bart Starr's sneak, Joe Schmidt, John Henry Johnson, YA Tittle, Jim Taylor, #19 and Lenny Moore. Football is not football anymore. Football is a platform for commercials, bad sportsmanship and self promotion. i think I'll go hit some shag balls and then rake the yard.
Rake the yard? Rake the yard?......
January 19, 2009 - 04:00 ET by old croI wish I could rake the yard. There are still some class, old school player's in the NFL. You just have to look harder to find them (see my examples of Fitzgerald and Polamalu above). My memories of those players you mentioned (I was going to call them heros, but realized I'm replying to one) is of running around crazy at Thanksgiving with my uncles telling me to settle my little a** down while the game was on. It's a new day with the communication advances made in the past twenty or so years, and everyone is eager to get their "face" time.

September 3, 2009 - 03:48 ET by old crocoma ;) but this was a discussion of Super Bowl XLIII which, by the way, the Steelers won. Chicago might have a chance at Super Bowl XLIV, but I doubt it since champions are built over time, not appearing magically with a single position change.
