Where's John McCain in this

Where's John McCain in this survey?  After all, you're asking for the weakest candidate.  If you were asking for the the weaker candidate, the two choices would be appropriate.

In any event, the answer to either question is without doubt...I don't know.

Has Leon really left the building?

Leon reportedly got bounced from NB, and then came back under a different alias/screen name... and I'm forgetting what it is now (and maybe that got bounced, too :p)

Racism is such a harsh accusation...

I don't hate anyone because of their race!

Don't much care for those Scandis, though... with their Absolut and their herring.

Sure they can yodel and play a mean accordion, but would you want your sister to go out with one?

I mean... there are limits.

Matt, to be fair, your

Matt, to be fair, your statement "no one who blogs on NB is a racist" is factually inaccurate. I have seen the dreaded N-word at least once in the comment section by a regular commenter (I won't say who). It took about 10 mins before someone caught it and took it down.It was seemingly written as if the person didn't even realize it, that's how natural it seemed of them to use that language.

Other than that, I wouldn't go as so far to call anyone blatantly racist on this site, but there are plenty of people who I've seen indiscretely show signs of prejudice.

That's the only thing that really bothers me about this site is that when race issues get brought up, I'm always ready to be either shocked or downright offended. Someone always says something that is often incredibly ignorant and it makes conservatives and the right-wing look bad.

I think it was wrong to kick Leon off for making an accusation that many (like myself) often see when race issues come up. The main point I want to stress is that I've hardly ever seen any malicious intent, but I've repeatedly seen ignorance and misinformation from some readers regarding minority issues on this site; enough that many people, like Leon, would get so frustrated that they'd define it as racism.

Wisdom - we are not bloggers

we are commenter's. Leon is the most racist of anyone I've seen post here. That doesn't make NB racist. NB does not stand behind the comments of everyone one here.

Oh, no you don't.  You're

Oh, no you don't.  You're not getting away with a disingenuous little blanket accusation like that.  If you think you can float some non-specific charge essentially painting everyone on this site with a broad brush because you're too cowardly to name names, I, for one, am not having it.  The bloggers on NewsBusters police this site.  On the few occasions I have read overt or even covert racism on a thread, I have seen the perpetrator(s) fingered and sorted out by the staff and/or the everyday members.  We don't stand for racism on this site, as you so dishonestly imply.  If you have actual evidence to suggest that racism is tolerated on this site, it's about time you came forward with it.  In the likely event that you have no such evidence...only bluster...you'd do well to keep your ignorance to yourself.

Good for you, fitz

Well stated.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

No racism here. . . . .

One of the reasons I visit this site as often as I do and actually contribute via replies and posts is because there are rules of conduct that are fair and respectful to everybody--everybody.  Not to mention that I usually receive a piece or two of enlightening information that I would not have received via the MSM from NB.

Additionally, I am amazed at the civility on this site as opposed to the vitriol and hateful invective flaunted by those that exist on Kos or HuffPo.  NB doesn't have to shut down it's comments section when a well known or affluent democrat or liberal passes away.

As for Leon - he is/was a half truth telling, out of context taking, flame throwing, hateful, angry, evil, lying, liberal that frankly, I will miss.

Replying on the one or two occassions that I did to debunk his mythical BS was enjoyable (and a great learning experience - both times).  His posts were replete with lies and venom so much so that when bloggers called him out on them, he would be painted into a corner and forced to retreat back to his database of illogic and non-knowledge via Daily Kos, Air America, HuffPo, or MSNBS in order to get more misinformation and to re-energize.

Matthew...re Leon

Matthew...

I have seen zero evidence of racism by any of the NB bloggers, and virtually none by any of the member/commenters.

There was an incident I PMed you about in March after I discovered a post on January 31 in which the N-word was spelled out in an overtly derogatory manner.  You didn't respond, but I notified Noel and he took it down.  However, the comment had remained unaddressed for a month and a half.

As a Democrat, I am offended by the numerous references to Democrats being racist, and belonging to the party of racism, but I realize it is not a charge specifically directed at me and thus differs from a personal accusation against a blogger--if that is what Leon is guilty of doing.

In Leon's case, I certainly don't condone the behavior you describe.  Of all the regular "liberal" posters at NB, I think he was the most "in your face".  But I do think he should have been sternly warned before being banned.  [Perhaps he was.]  He was very much a liberal lightening rod, but he also participated in many lively, entertaining--and informative--exchanges.

Oh, yes. Typical arrogance

Oh, yes. Typical arrogance from a McCain apologist. Rush Limbaugh is trying to help McCain win.  Problem is, McCain still thinks he doesn't need conservatives to win...and his blindly loyal supporters are simply demanding that we settle for McCain because he's the least bad candidate.  McCain needs a motivated base in order to win in November...and he's not going to motivate a base by having his surrogates condescend to those of us who are already unconvinced by him.  He'll be lucky if Hillary is the Democrat nominee because her negatives will motivate many Republicans to come out and support McCain as an anti-Hillary vote.

fitz.... You hit the nail

fitz....

You hit the nail right on the head....

McCain doesn't need conservatives, it is his plan to omit us, him and his bigwig party leaders, they have said as much on various shows of all venues, they say we will go to them (McCain)....people that want McCain to win should be happy with what Rush is doing.

"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Churchill

Incidentally, I don't think

Incidentally, I don't think this was McCain's plan at all. Rather, as I've asserted plenty of times before, the marginalization of conservatives in the GOP is the left's horse in this race. Even more than a Dem victory, they want to see conservatives just knuckle-down and vote the party line, proving that they won't force the GOP to come back from the left. McCain is just a useful idiot, a pawn to the left in this game. Then again, the left's pawn is what he's been for a while, now.

Better than President McCain! But we really don't need to give Hillary any more ammo. No matter what, she's gonna fight to the end and split the party. Even if she loses every remaining primary.

I want her to lose the nomination to the weak horse, effectively ending her presidential chances. If she loses in Denver in '08 she'll be an ugly, washed-up loser without a chance in 2012. If she wins in Denver she very well could become president. So the way I see it there's no reason to give her any more encouragement. Limbaugh, however, has way too much ego invested in operation chaos to think it through.

+1

I agree that Rush has gone around the bend. Encouraging Chaos voters to say "you suck" when they've done their dirty hidden deed is low life. Playing politics with Politics will invariably bring consequences. Here in WA State we can't vote for a better qualified Dem because it's party line only. Other states will lose the freedom to vote like adults because the bloviating blowhard from Missouri just had to play games. Maybe they'll soon honor him in each State calling it "Rush Sucks" Legislation. Limbo needs to stick a sock in it, he is passe.

Here is one point that no

Here is one point that no one looks at, when this is over the Democrats will be so pissed that they will want to change their primary system. Hopefully the Republicans will do the same. I say, do all the primaries in one day. That way Iowa and New Hampshire will not get all the attention. As well as have liberals pick our choice!!!!!!! On top of that I think that the person that gets the most votes is the President and the person that get the second most votes gets the VP. That stops the back room deals, where we have no say in who will be the #2 man. With only a heart beat away from the job, why the hell do we not have a choice!!

I personally think he will

I personally think he will get the general, the reason I think he is weaker is his inexperience in answering questions on talking head shows, his debate performance, his terrorist ties, the likes of Wright for twenty years, his wife's anger, the seeming dislike for America....although Hill has her own baggage too, we all know what it is...his is new for most.

This selection is the

This selection is the product of Media filtration complicit with a concerted Democratic smear campaign led by Chuck Schumer and Rahm Emmanuel which has been aimed at the greater Conservative movement.

Conservatives can't get a drop of good press refardless of what happens or what they do.  The economy has been so talked down that all the old people in this country think we are in a depression.  Anthropogenic Global Warming as a climate catastrophe is a sham.  The war against Islamofiacism is "lost" or unwinnable.  White men are "bad".  etc., etc.

Obama has little experience in National Politics

Obama has little experience in national politics and it shows. He also doesn’t have the contacts needed to actually win the nomination.

Hillary has 6 more years as a Senator than Obama, so she‘s has a lot more experience with national politics. She also has lots of contacts on the national level because of her association with Bill. Bill and the national democratic party, along with the contacts he cultivated during his presidency and governorship, goes back several decades, remember? That’s a huge advantage to her. Why else would she stay in the race even though she doesn't seem to have enough support from declared, popular voted selected delegates needed to win? It seems that she knows she can win most of the super-delegate votes and that will get her the nomination.

Obama, on the other hand, has only a few years to make contacts with anyone outside of state level party affiliations. Two yeas on the national level aren’t going to help him. I think that this makes him much weaker as it is the party leadership, and the super-delegates who will be under pressure for the party leadership to vote for Hillary, who's going to decide their nomination and not the "popular" vote, as he believes.

It's Comforting To Believe Racism Has Been Vanquished, But...

Obama is the weaker candidate because of his race.

While his positions are even more extreme than Hillary's, there is so little difference between them that as far as comparison to McCain they are identical...except for his race. Though she has her own baggage, and it is great, her negatives are predominantly Republican/conservative issues, whereas Obama's race poblems cross party lines. So, while most conservative moderates will shy away from Hillary, and some will also shy away from Obama because of racism, a percentage of the moderate liberals, as well as some extreme liberals will avoid Obama because of his race.

Yes, I am well aware that polls suggest otherwise, but in this race, and at this point of the race, anyone who believes that respondents do not lie to pollsters are deluding themselves.

...because, while she is a power-hungry provaricator, she's still more realistic in that she knows when/if she takes office that she can't "really" pull the troops from Iraq or that she can't "really" talk with Iran. I'm guessing that if this poll had been conducted 2-3 months ago, the results might have been the reverse. Interesting how things have changed. If we feel this way, why wouldn't superdelegates? And if they do, what are the implications for the nomination?

Because they are Democrat Superdelegates. They do not see things the way we do. That is, logically.

I'm in the minority

I picked Hillary. She has lots of baggage, folks are sick of the Clintons. Obama's baggage is fresh, but it's being downplayed and excused. He's "new" and "different." Plus he comes with a built-in guarantee of 90+% of the black vote.

What kind of stupid,

What kind of stupid, ignorant comment is that?  I'm just after having to defend this site from seemingly baseless charges that racism is accepted here and then you "contribute" this?  Crawl back in your hole.

lol

This is what Rush wants from Operation Chaos. He wants the Dem Convention to look like 1968 with burning cars in the streets and rioters everywhere. This could be what Judy is referring to. It can be racist to too quickly call other people racists.

Wesen... Sharpton himself

Sharpton himself has said they would take to the streets if Obama isn't the choice after people have voted and the superdelegates choose otherwise (I'm paraphrasing here)....I have heard callers on the Washington Journal say the same only much worse over time...reminds me of the threats with the OJ trial....this also may be what Judith was meaning here.

Operation Chaos is to help destroy the dem. party itself, which doesn't need much of a push either after all these years....they all are reaping just what they have sown, in every respect politically.

"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Churchill

Oh, gee.  Thanks, Wesen,

Oh, gee.  Thanks, Wesen, for the oh-so-brilliant civics lesson.  I should be cautious to underestimate your intelligence.  You McCain apologists are so much smarter than everyone else, after all.  Tell me, genius, what was the purpose of her referring to African-Americans in quotes?  Please, dazzle me with your pretzel logic.

I hesitate to get into this

I hesitate to get into this debate at all but I feel I must. I would put the quote "African American" in quotes as well because there are no such such people unless you are talking about the few thousand African immigrants that came here personally from Africa. If the average 10th generation black American went to Africa they'd be going on an American VISA.

I hate the term and believe it is insulting to all Americans including those Americans whose ancestory happens to be somewhere in Africa, which is even more humorous. Who is an African really? Is there African citizenship? If you ran into an Egyptian or Morroccan would you call him "African American"? How about a a guy with dark skin who is 1/16 Irish, 2/16 German, 4/16 French, 1/16 Italian, and 8/16 Kenyan? Guy number 2 lived in the US all his life as did the past 5 generations but him we call "African" The Egyptian who may have just got off the boat, oh he's "Arab" or "Middle Eastern". Who is the racist? The person using quotes?

Let me make it simple for

Let me make it simple for you: I was born in the United States.  My family is from Ireland.  I'm an American of Irish ancestry...or an Irish-American.  I'm not an "Irish-American".

Would it be racist if I

Would it be racist if I called you an "Irish-American"? You can call yourself anything you want. I have a few words I would use to describe you, but none of that has anything to do with racial hate. I just think it ignorant of you to assume the worst of another poster because they put "" around a term they may not agree with and want to note it. To imply they are racists is unfair.

A term "they may not agree

A term "they may not agree with"?  Of all the lame justifications I've heard, that one is worth some prize.  In the context of the sentence, the use of quotes was gratuitous and sarcastic suggesting a resentment of the term.  So then, why the resentment?  What is so patently offensive about that term?  If she objects to the term, what term does she suggest be used in the alternative?

Furthermore, in a similar context (speaking in stereotypes like the one above), the use of quotes around Irish-American as a substitute for some other perjorative would be racist.  Got it?

No, I don't got it. You're

No, I don't got it. You're just an ass. You don't dictate which terms I can or cannot use. If I don't like a term you can't tell me I'm a racist because of it. I explained myself quite clearly. You want to call me a racist or the other poster, fine.

You're just an

You're just an ass.

Considering the source of that charge, I'll regard it as a compliment.

You don't dictate which terms I can or cannot use.

I never did.  It's a free country, we all have a right to free speech.  However, just because we can all speak freely doesn't mean we're immune from criticism for said free speech.

If I don't like a term you can't tell me I'm a racist because of it.

Now who's dictating which terms one can and cannot use?  I simply made the point that, depending on context, certain terms can appropriately be determined as racist.  That you contort that into a claim that you were accused of being a racist says a lot more about you than it does me.

I explained myself quite clearly.

Really?  Try reading the sentence you wrote before this claim followed by the sentence you typed right after it.  Clear as mud.

In retrospect, perhaps your original instinct not to get involved was the smart one?

So if you don't like the

So if you don't like the term "African American" because you think it is insulting you are a racist?

The reason you can't say that isn't because I want to dictate to you what you can say, its because there is no reasonable way to interpret that statement as racist. You have yet to explain how not liking a term that stereotypically labels someone while being inacurate at the same time equates to racism. If you simply provide any backing for your shallow assumption perhapse there could be some ground for a discusion. As of yet all I have to go on is that you like to call yourself "Irish-American". I have yet to understand how my dislike of the hyphen makes me hate all Irish or all "African Americans" Are you truely so dense that you can't understand how someone might not like the use of hyphenated American without hating all people who could possibly use the hyphenated version of their ethnicity? (Namely everyone!!!)

Did you read that back

Did you read that back before posting it?  Beyond being completely incoherent, your rant is littered with misspellings.  And you have the nerve to call me "dense"?

It's difficult to know where to start in addressing your reply because I don't speak Imbecile (perhaps Berlitz or Rosetta Stone have programs to help me brush up on that language, but I can't guarantee anything).  Unfortunately, you seem unfamiliar with the concepts of "context" and "stereotyping", so I'm going to have to save full explanations until I get my English-to-Imbecile Translation Dictionary.  You'll forgive me, of course.

As for the little English that did trickle through, allow me to enlighten you on a few things.  Contrary to your assertion, I don't "like to call" myself "Irish-American"...I am Irish-American.  It's a small detail, I know, but details are everything.  There's nothing particularly threatening about the label so why you'd be bothered is anyone's guess.  Additionally, if an American of African descent (no matter how many generations removed from the African Continent or what percentage of his or her ancestry originates from said Continent) wishes to be referred to as an African-American, how is that any of your concern?  The clear implication of the original post was that African-Americans would protest a Hillary Clinton nomination by rioting and burning down property...because that's what "they" "usually do".  This is what is called a "stereotype".  Judith's use of quotes in that context was the dismissive "cherry on top", if you will.

Ah, well.  Maybe I'm wasting my time at this point.  After all, I haven't spoken to Berlitz yet, so I'm afraid most of this will be lost on you until then.
