Definition?
July 2, 2008 - 10:00 ET by CaringwhiteguyWhat's a "centerist"? Who defines the terms?
For me a centrist is
July 2, 2008 - 14:46 ET by bigtimerFor me a centrist is somebody who walks both sides of the fence, doesn't have a clue, goes with what they think is popular opinion where everybody will like them...
If it is a political candidate who claims to be, it is so you can stab either party in the back if you want to...but heck vote for me anyway...I know what is best....I just want your vote...trust me.
That's why I voted...no opinion.

McCain is a centrist. He
July 2, 2008 - 10:06 ET by ThatDudeMcCain is a centrist. He has been for a long time and anyone who attempts to paint his opposition as one is committing intellectual dishonesty at best. I really can not wait for the debates because where they stand on the political spectrum will become much clearer. I'd truly like to see towhall debates attack McCain from the right and Obama from...everything but the extreme left.
Correct -- McCain is
July 2, 2008 - 12:25 ET by lotrCorrect -- McCain is centrist, Obama is unmitigated Left-wing (although he is doing his best to conceal that image).
Losing the shine.
July 2, 2008 - 10:08 ET by ScrapironOsama Obama is losing the shine and it's scheduled to get worse. Seems he has joined Dodd and Conrad on the 'criminal' home loan list. Since they had not paid their student loans they could not have had an honest, good credit rating, and qualified for an honest loan of over a million dollars. How did he get rich? Selling books. BS, the public didn't buy the books. One of his mob friends bought them by the truck load and they went streight to the landfill, but the hard to trace payoff came to Osama Obama. Will it be too late when America figures out he's nothing more that a drug dealing street punk, rip off artist. Je$$ie, Al, in a better suit.
Old, Retired and glad of it.
Debates??
July 2, 2008 - 10:16 ET by ScrapironYou may see a scripted debate but you won't see the open town hall debates. Some conservative might ask him a hard question, maybe how many states there are. Osama's handlers know he's dumber than a third grade student who rides the short bus without a pre-written response (written by several white guys) and a teleprompter to read someone else's response from.

Too soon to tell
July 2, 2008 - 10:27 ET by habbyguyIt's really too early to tell - it's all about the public's perception, and has nothing much to do with reality.
If we DO consider reality (and can only hope that the rank and file voters do the same), it's clear that Obama votes straight party-line every time (unless there's a more liberal position to take, of course). McCain has shown a constant willingness to forego the limitations of party politics and follow his own path.
Curiously, this tendency made him a hero to the leftist press, where he was labeled as a "brave maverick". Now they can discern no difference between him and GWB. Go figger.
It seems to me a centrist
July 2, 2008 - 11:14 ET by Dan The Man 2It seems to me a centrist voter would like Obama more because he is promising throughout the spectrum. But I have a dim view of what a centrist is and who he will vote for. To me a centrist has no clear idea of left or right and will vote for any yahoo comes down the pike, therefore Obama is the logical choice.
Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.
Now if you'da said "moderates"
July 2, 2008 - 12:24 ET by Joe C.Now if you'da said "moderates" - easily swayed, disengaged, uncritical, craving popularity, deriving self-worth by associating with the accomplishments of others - I woulda voted for Obambi. A "centrist" has firmly held opinions that span the ideological spectrum not associated with a particular ideology or party. There are very few of these, but the former make up the majority of Americans.
Just one comment here, I
July 2, 2008 - 12:57 ET by ForeverOnTheRightJust one comment here, I find the use of the word "centrist" irritating, it's has sounded like leftist spin on the word moderate. At least that is my take on the use of the word. On the other hand if it is defined as Joe C. defined it well McCain is the true centerist and Obama is just a wanabe. And let's not let Obama redefine himself as a "centerist" either, he's a hard core leftist neo-marxist trying to fake us into thinking he is a centerist, and we know it.
