He was the media darling when he was against Bush. Too bad he still has an R after his name...the media will punish him like the rest of the Republicans. Sorry John. The media was never out to help you - only to bash-Bush. You lost my support when you complied with the media's cry to bash Bush and abandon your President.
Leon, you are an idiot. McCain's alliance with Ted Kennedy is what destroyed him. The American people voiced their outrage over his immigration bill by jamming up the switch boards and fax lines. You can't blame Bush for EVERYTHING. You know, I wonder what you socialists will do when Bush is out of office. Who are you going to single out with wild accusations this time? Of course, if a Democrat gets elected, there will be no complaining because you socialists will have gotten your way. Just like little screaming children in the supermarket. You people have demostrated how immature you all are. Your philosophy goes like this:
"If I win, I'm still the champion. If You win... well that's just impossible!"
See House Speaker Pelosi just before the mid-terms.
I think McCain polled more Democratic votes than Republican votes in his last run for Senate. If the Repubs had a strong primary contender, he would be running a Budweiser distributorship right now.
Our real problem, then, is not our strength today; it is rather the vital necessity of action today to ensure our strength tomorrow. Dwight Eisenhower
I always enjoy Leon's comments - short and without a point. Anytime a politician with an "R" by his name can receive accolades from the most liberal news outlets, you know something smells in suburbia. But contrary to Leon's rhetoric, the MSM never stopped propping him up during his 2000 campaign.
However, McCain is Republican relative, not Republican absolute. Back in 2000 the MSM had no choice but to prop him up, otherwise they risked running a 24-hour Gore-a-thon. Al Gore had been handed the baton and there were no Obamas and Hillarys to help diversify the liberal editorials. So the moderate was the next best thing to a second liberal candidate.
Fast forward to today and now the MSM has no need for McCain. We've got the two darlings mentioned above and an entire field of liberal elites. Why would a moderate Republican deserve any ink now?
At least we can find some common ground. But your post has nothing to do with the original question: When do you think the McCain campaign realized the media couldn't help them win? It's not whether the media was/is the cause of his downfall - that's obviously a non-issue and completely irrelevant.
Not an early Bush supporter, but I saw no upside to Sen. McCain in the 2000 primary. As far as I can see McCain has always been his own worst enemy. The myth that the Bush campaign brutalized McCain has long been a component of the MSM's big lie currently attributed to BDS.
The fact that McCain fell on his sword over the illegal immigration issue despite and against the obvious public outcry over failure to enforce the law says he not only in not in touch with the people he wants to represent but arrogant enough to believe his own rhetoric. It matters not how much the MSM supports him but he doesn't get that either, what matters is what we the majority think. Given the MSM spin over why McCain is floundering, neither he nor the MSM are being honest with the public.
We all know why McCain tanked, hint it was not for W's stance on the GWOT or Iraq, otherwise how do you explain Guiliani and Thompson, who are both for the GWOT and for enforcement of the existing Law and the fence?
Here's a basic civics lesson for the MSM, the Dems and McCain - a Republic is about representing the majority view and interest. It is not about sweet talking (misrepresenting yourself) your way into power and then doing your political agenda for the so called good of the country, that's what dictators are for.
“The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane"
I voted never as there was not a category for the campaign fingering and I do mean fingering figured out they were doomed 3 weeks ago when the first rats jumped the boat and McCain unfortunately still thinks the media loves the ole Maverick.
For the record in plains talk, plains as in grassland pastures only fit for cattle. A maverick was a beef which refused to stay on the owners range, was mean as hell in trying to kill the cowboys and they only got a brand when run down to the earth.
They were as soon as possible castrated and culled if bulls and sold to slaughter.
So McCain so proud of his maverick name was something that cost a rancher money and only made a profit when someone slapped a brand on him.......yup John McCain.
I do feel compassion for McCain. He never got over Bush whipping him, insulted Bush, insulted Limbaugh, then insulted Americans with his border buster love affair. He is a beef without a bellar now and politics is not where he belongs as he is just a bum steer.
He needs to be remembered a hero POW in Vietnam. Hopefully someone will make him ambassador or special envoy to something as he needs healing even if he has been a prick to Conservatives and America.
Lame, I think I generally agree with your post, but I am not sure. Don't take offense, but I get the feeling the content of your post was generated by an artificial intelligence program on your pc.
- MSM likes McCain better than most Republicans. Why? He's more moderate, and he has not been afraid to criticize the Bush administration.
- MSM wants a Democrat in the White House. Of this there really can be little debate.
- MSM understood that McCain, especially in today's environment, would stand the best chance for a Republican to beat the Democrat in the general election.
- MSM then did not want McCain to be in a position to win the nomination, but, they did like him in the conversation - as it divided the Republicans - one of the MSM's constant goals.
- MSM, in my view, spent the entire past 6-9 months destroying McCain. It was carefully crafted (practically has conspiracy written all over it) and as they pulled it off they managed to damage the Republican party even more, and have done away with McCain as a viable risk to the Democratic Party.
First the McCain-Feingold bill then the Amnesty bill is what did in McCain NOT the MSM
“I would remind you
that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind
you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”
The amnesty bill was his downfall. At least IMABHO so no matter what the press says that turned people away from him.I dont have a problem with moderates I have a problem with putting this country second to special interest groups. He did serve his country and for that he has my respect but as a polititian he failed us and wont get my vote.

That was the beginning of his downfall. It wasn't the media that hurt McCain, it was the Bush campaign team.
