What do I want to see......

KISS - Keep it simple
February 2, 2008 - 21:21 ET by WoodyMI don't have time to watch videos and listen to interviews. I like the simplicity of the site the way it is, where I can skim, read, or move-on--depending upon my interest and time.
My thoughts also
February 2, 2008 - 22:18 ET by DEVILDOCMOMI try and read topics on the site at least once an day...don't want to miss anything. :) Often, I do not have time for more than this and the layout works for me.
→ Link Flooding
February 2, 2008 - 05:34 ET by Cool ArrowI'd like to see the threads less cluttered with endless scrolls of link flooding.
People who wish to communicate their hatred for any particular candidate can set up their own Forum and use a single link to it in threads.
Most of these floods make me glad I've got a wheelmouse.
It's tedious, but I guess it wows the newbies.

February 2, 2008 - 06:48 ET by Cool ArrowBack in the days when mirc Chat rooms were the rage, people used to cut and paste whole documents into the chatroom. Most members were more interested in real discussion than watching several pages of text fly by on the screen.
It was just called flooding. I just adapted the term to describe gratuitous redundant unending links.

"Back in the Day" - You were clueless
February 2, 2008 - 07:13 ET by PopularTechWhat on AOL? You used AOL? That explains it all. Why would you name posting paragraphs of content into a chat window - link flooding when it has nothing to do with links? Better yet why would you take a term that dealt with DDoS network attacks and apply it to chat rooms? Makes sense to the AOL chat room warrior!

That doesn't mean I want them to stop. However, I see nothing wrong with CA or anyone else voicing such displeasure, especially as the subject of this thread was to solicit opinions about NB.

Limiting comment size would be good also
February 2, 2008 - 12:58 ET by Dee BunkI'm definitely an offender of long comments myself. I like how Youtube limits you to 500 characters because it forces you to be brief. NB would probably be better with a bigger limit like 1,000 but it would be better than nothing. It would also help with having to scroll so much and would stop people from cutting and pasting long passages.
As a long poster myself
February 3, 2008 - 13:35 ET by KC MulvilleI'm as guilty as anyone of long posts. But I think that if you limit the posts to make them brief, you'll simply get a bunch of drive-by insults. They'll just be a bunch of snarky quips (or failed attempts at it). It'll also be an invitation to group think, and that doesn't much interest me.
This is just one man's opinion, but if you're going to make public comments, you owe it to readers to explain yourself, and be willing to defend what you say. You shouldn't just toss off comments. I enjoy the threads where people develop ideas. I don't enjoy "insult tennis," where squabbling goes back and forth without any real content.
On the other hand, free speech is inherently messy. The fun thing about a forum is that you can ignore things you don't like. As they say, take what you need, and leave the rest.

I didn't vote for any of those choices, because I didn't see one that I think you really need to add.
Allowing submission of stories, I think, would make a mess, with everyone throwing in what they want. We get to do that in Open Threads anyway; I don't think it's necessary to do it all the time. We can always submit story tips to the staff. We get links to video clips, etc. now too. I don't see any need to have them posted directly on the site. Please let's not "junk up" the site too much.
Don't try to do too many things.

Alternatively, the ability to block selected people from being visible (i.e., personal choice on who I see) would be nice. That way, everyone could be happy. Those who like to post annoying lists could do so, and those who don't like to have to plow past them could ignore them.
