I picked other because he
July 12, 2008 - 16:59 ET by bigtimerI picked other because he will be remembered by me as all above, plus his radio show.
He helped Fox launch and become Number One with his wit and a wisdom.
He was first class all the way.
I am just heart-broken...

Tony will be sorely missed, but remembered as one of the classier of people in the media.
Tony should have some great conversations with Mr. Buckley. Two heroes of conservatism lost in the same year, how sad.

July 12, 2008 - 23:39 ET by Clear thinkerAnd a big howdy to you too!
Today has been a very weird day for me. I am really going to miss Tony Snow. Anytime his name ever came up in a conversation, I would always tell people that Tony is one of the good guys.
I only wish he had lived long enough to run for office. POTUS would have been a good start.

July 12, 2008 - 17:02 ET by garyganuTony Snow had a passion for whatever he did. He sought out the truth, was humble and friendly. He was an excellent journalist and commentator and the best press secretary of all time.
A class act
July 12, 2008 - 17:05 ET by scamoramaIn a time when the term is misused and overused, Snow was a true Class Act.
I picked his FNS hosting.
July 12, 2008 - 17:11 ET by kevcadI picked his FNS hosting. His press secretary duty was harrowing, having to deal with Helen Thomas, Gregory, etc. I'd think he'd not like to have that memory be the prominent one.
This was a toss-up; he shined in every endeavor he persued, including his valiant battle with cancer.
RIP, Tony.

Legacy
July 12, 2008 - 17:11 ET by NortoJust how he handled his latter time with us is more important as a role model, which we are in sore need of at this time. I refuse to comment on the media's handling of his death and that is comment enough.

To me, Tony Snow will best
July 12, 2008 - 17:47 ET by fitzfongTo me, Tony Snow will best be remembered for underlining just how incompetent Scott McLoser was...by showing us all how a real professional works. He had the grace, dignity and a command of the facts that the filth in the White House Press corps could only dream of having. If only Bush had hired Tony Snow sooner. R.I.P, buddy.

I picked "other," because
July 12, 2008 - 18:03 ET by Indiana JoeI picked "other," because the term "best" is ambiguous. What was his "best" work? Or what will he be remembered for "most?" That would depend on who does the remembering. And judging by the AP and expected "memories" of the DKers and HuffnPuffers, they'll remember all sorts of things that aren't true.
Tony was a class act who brought everything he had to any endeavor he undertook. Whether it was writing, radio or riding herd on the Washpresscorp, he did it his way. And earned a lot of respect from the people who matter, the people who really pay attention to what's going on.
RIP

Tony was one of the best
July 12, 2008 - 18:17 ET by celatorTony was one of the best testaments of the persuasive power of quiet, confident courage.
He never ranted, and he never got in the face of his opposition yelling "SEE HOW RIGHT I AM AND HOW WRONG YOU ARE!!!!" He knew, intuitively, that is the worse possible approach to dialogue and persuasion.
He had no need to pretend he was a "tough guy" so his political opposition felt safe around him. They knew Tony respected them as people, even if he thought their ideas were insane. He understood the difference.
It was the way he lived to the very end that proved his courage was the real thing. It was, and is, an amazing lesson in how to live a life.
God Bless, Tony.
All of the Above

He was a class act
July 12, 2008 - 19:45 ET by capitolguyTony Snow was a class act who never sank to the level of the White House Press Corps. He never allowed them to take him down to their level. On Fox News, he was straightforward, honest and witty. He will be missed. God bless his wife and children.

MSM Bias observation regading Tony Snow's Death
July 12, 2008 - 20:39 ET by PopularTechI wanted to see if a well-known former White House Press Secretary would get the same coverage as the later Tim Russert (who got a week of morning), especially one who dies young - turns out the bias still exists:

The Aura
July 12, 2008 - 20:45 ET by CaringwhiteguyIt was an aura. It wasn't just one thing.
I liked Tony immediately when he caught my attention 15 years ago. I remember his wit. I remember his incredible skills. I remember his good cheer.
I remember how delighted I was when it was announced he was replacing Scotty Mumbles. I remember cheering him on when he so cleverly b**ch-slapped David Gregory and Helen Thomas. It was beautiful. They never saw it coming.
He was a cut above, a true pro.
I have to say
July 12, 2008 - 21:08 ET by Delsaall of the above plus his kindness, humility, humor, and his infectious smile.
I have missed him and will miss him.
God Bless you Tony.
Thanks for the memories.
I voted for Tony's tenure at Fox News Sunday.
July 12, 2008 - 21:34 ET by R D HelmI knew little about him until he helped launch what I feel is the best Sunday news show of them all.

It was sad that he chose to become Bush's press guy, as I thought it a huge mistake.
Not me..he brought a much needed refreshing change to the WH Press Briefings and reigned in the leftist press and their bullying leftist BS that they did with that piss down his legs turn-coat Scottie M.
Tony was perfection with these whining enemy within critters...he paved the way for Dana Perino.
You know, besides his cancer, he had his home burn to the ground before his diagnosis I think, nevertheless..he was called to where he was at the time he was for a reason...I will always believe that.

July 12, 2008 - 22:43 ET by R D HelmI wasn't at all pleased that Tony (who I liked and respected greatly) allowed himself to be manipulated into selling Bush's amnesty plan.
I feel he should have resigned at that point. I know I would have.
I have to be honest here, as that entire episode diminished Mr. Snow in my eyes to a certain degree.

July 13, 2008 - 01:28 ET by operasingerTony Snow was a true patriot and a man who loved his family as much as he loved his country...that's why I will miss him...
I voted writing
July 13, 2008 - 01:44 ET by BlondeBecause lately, he was the Press Secretary.
And before that, a radio host.
And before that, a speech writer for GHWB.
I'd have preferred an option of "wordsmith".
Tony Snow was an absolute genius at crafting individual words into a cogent argument. Whether it was for his own speech, or for someone else's speech. Did anyone else here see Ken's post...a video of Tony Snow receiving the MRC award?
I was stunned by Tony's words, and emotions, and most importantly, his ideas.
For us to mourn the man is natural.
But I would posit that we should mourn the loss of a great inspiration of conservative idealism, and most importantly, the wherewithal to put it into words that make sense!
No one else on the national stage even came (or comes) close to Tony.
Tony Snow....you will be missed.

July 13, 2008 - 02:27 ET by BigSky1970I voted "Other" because he will be remembered, for me at least, for basically "all of the above". I first remember Tony Snow dating back to his days sitting in for Rush Limbaugh as far back as 1991.
Same
July 14, 2008 - 00:48 ET by River CityI voted Other for the exact same reason. I remember him as all of those things: the total package. I have an email he sent me in reply to one I sent him when he worked at FNC. How cool that he took the time to reply to fans personally. What a great guy!

I chose other for a more
July 13, 2008 - 07:01 ET by bamananaI chose other for a more personal reason. When my adult son died, a reporter asked me what was the one thing I wanted people to know about him. Without hesitation, my answer was, "If he loved you, you knew it". In all the years I spent watching and listening to Mr. Snow, that was always what jumped out at me. Whether it was his family, his job, his country, or his president, Mr. Snow's passion for all things he held dear would shine through. With Mr. Snow, one always knew he was saying what he believed to be true. I think its a great measure of a man who is unapologetic for the passion he feels for the people and ideals he holds close to his heart.

July 13, 2008 - 08:06 ET by CatherwoodHe will be remembered as the newsman with no anger and no hate. That's what made him so great.

I'd've loved to meet him. What an honor. I can't help but feel that he'd send me away with the desire to be a better person.
Worship him? No. Admire? Beyond measure. In these days of screeching, TV hogging and utter rudeness, he stood out as the gold standard
I picked Other because of his humor
July 13, 2008 - 10:28 ET by mr2nbmagTony was always smiling when he came on the TV. Whatever the topic, usually politics, he always smiled and had a chuckle as he bantered with others on a program.
God Bless his family for losing him. His wife is a hero for sticking by him to the end. I'll enjoy re-runs of some of Tony's work on TV and radio.
Thank you Lord for bringing us a wonderful man.
His Memory is a contrast...
July 13, 2008 - 12:34 ET by packmanIt's odd how close you can feel to someone even though you never met them personally. Tony Snow was a man of integrity and gentleness. His media demeanor was always such a contrast to the MSM's typical representatives. His heart for conservatism and American values earned him a special place in my heart. I feel as though I've lost a close friend.

July 13, 2008 - 12:51 ET by d1carterHe will be remembered by me as a very decent man who loved his family and knew what was really important in life. Tony was good at what he did with the courage of a lion. Once, I posted a message about Tony on another blog when his disease was made public. I received the an email from Tony thanking me for the comment with such humility and honesty. This, I will never forget...
I pray for his family's comfort.
He was what you saw: A warm, genial man who loved life
July 13, 2008 - 14:45 ET by GalvanicI had the pleasure of meeting Tony Snow after a Boy Scout dinner at which he had served ably as host. Though we only spoke for about 30 seconds, Tony came across as the personality I had come to admire on Fox News.
In fact, it was because of that persona that I felt I could actually talk to this celebrity. I stopped him as he was leaving and he actually stopped to shake hands and exchange a few lines.
I thanked him for hosting the Eagle Scout dinner and for hosting his Fox News show. He thanked me for the compliments, and he laughed when I wished him luck 'educating' Juan Williams, and said that Juan was his friend and a good guy. Then, we parted.
I'll always remember his intellect, his wit, his love of family and country, his passion for everything he did (his Father's Day message at the end of one show still brings tears to my eyes), and capping it all: his unsinkable attitude. He was always positive, cheerful, friendly, and humble, even when the chips were down.
Men like Tony Snow are so rare, that we truly suffer when we lose them. He was one of the most genuine human beings I ever encountered.
Tony will be rembered for
July 13, 2008 - 14:59 ET by bassndudeTony will be rembered for all of those, and more. He was a genuinely nice guy. Not many of those around today. And we could ill afford to lose one such as Tony. I was saddned by his on the news of his death. His wit and views will be missed.

Tony Snow
July 13, 2008 - 17:30 ET by rpeeler42I will remember Tony Snow for many, many things, but the quality that I will remember for years to come, is his sterling character.
Snow will be remembered for...
July 13, 2008 - 20:12 ET by Parker1227...his civility in a political world rife with hate mongering.
In grateful memory
July 15, 2008 - 23:16 ET by wiley catBlonde and Packman spoke for me also, as to his masterful command of the English language, and as to his integrity.
Tony was a man who believed in and was devoted to Jesus Christ and showed it every day of his life, in his relationships, his citizenship, and his total commitment to the truth.
He was that rare person in public life who gave always the evidence of his genuineness and the feeling that you could trust anything he said when he was in the spotlight, and the witness here is that he was the same man when he was away from the spotlight as he was when he was in it. He never allowed himself to be captured by his possible "public image", as so many public figures do.
He framed so many issues so clearly and understandably, and with such obvious good sense, that, IMHO, he has set an Olympic-level standard to which to aspire, for any writer and journalist who also is committed to speaking the truth. He is one of the few people who restored my faith that someone in public life could be trusted to tell the truth. He obviously has set a wonderful example of "speaking the truth in love" in public life.
His influence has been and will be greatly missed. May his example instruct and encourage others to follow in his footsteps.
Update: The one other quality which seems exceedingly rare in public life, that I saw consistently projected by Tony Snow, was his kindness and politeness which he showed even toward those with whom he disagreed.
There is NO "anthropogenic" Global Warming. NONE.
