I got to vote first!
August 24, 2008 - 16:30 ET by Free StinkerI got to vote first!
Woo hoo! I'm going out to buy a Lottery ticket! ;-)
Anyway, beating a Brazilian team at football (soccer) is always a cause for celebration, much like when any other Baseball team somehow manages to beat the New York Yankees.

Voted Mens B-ball
August 24, 2008 - 16:49 ET by general companyI like the team sports, and the USA woman are awesome. But they are always great, nice to see this Mens Basketball team play so well, real team ball. Loved the 2 young woman gymnast as well, they had a very difficult road to travel and showed great perseverance .

dimishing returns
August 24, 2008 - 16:44 ET by RiharI watched more because my wife and young kids were watching than anything else. Sometimes when we got bored with it we'd have our own Wii version of the olympics with Wii Sports. It was much more entertaining than watching some mind boggling international version of handball. To be honest it was probably the way handball was meant to be played, it just looked silly to me.

August 24, 2008 - 16:54 ET by Del DolemonteTotally overlooked in all of the brouhaha over Phelps' swimming and Usain Bolt's running, there's Hawaii's Bryan Clay, who won the Gold Medal in Decathalon, the "essential" Olympic sport. He also won a Silver in 2004, and will be in London in 2012 to try to become the first Olympian ever to win a medal in decathalon in 3 Olympics.

Yeah, she's incredible. What did you think about Stuczynski's coach ripping her apart after she won the silver? What a putz. ns
Stuczynski
August 24, 2008 - 17:37 ET by Andante"Putz" is far too kind. Stuczynski's coach should have climbed over the barrier, given her a hug and said "fantastic job, congratulations, we'll getem next time". His comment about her being "not bad for having pole-vaulted for only four years" exposes him for the idiot he is. Can you imagine being a silver medalist at anything in only four years? Stuczynski is the athlete of the year as far as I'm concerned.

Well, as you might know, my son is a high jumper at Nebraska. We watched that event together -- because we both also love pole vault -- and we were screaming at the coach. I can't imagine a coach being disappointed with his athlete coming in second against the number one in the world.
Rather than this being the greatest moment in her life, this coach destroyed it. Shame on him. ns

August 24, 2008 - 21:51 ET by AndanteI pole-vaulted in high school. These girls are amazing and it broke my heart to hear that fool ruin the best moment of her life; oh well here's something that will get your mind off bad coaching. ;-)

LOL.
Well, it's way before the season starts, but given how Brandon finished his first official year, as well as how hard he's worked out this summer, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he will be in the top five in the Big 12, the top 20 in the nation, will clear 2.20, and will compete in the National final next June.
BTW: Did you see that NONE of our jumpers made it to the Olympic final? Disgraceful. Yet, I was very pleasantly surprised to see NBC show men's and women's high jump this year. Good omen. ns
I didn't watch

Chinese girls gymnastics team gold
August 24, 2008 - 18:01 ET by JeffWeimerBecause it showed JUST HOW FAR the Chinese regime would go to win gold in order to keep "face".
Of course, the opening ceremonies are my runner up. The Chinese cheated TWICE in the first event! It wasn't even a competitive event, except when you think about the geoplitical competition....
Some of the judging left
August 24, 2008 - 18:23 ET by general companySome of the judging left a pretty sour taste in my mouth, not just gymnastics either, a lot of the subjective sports were, well subjective. The Boxing was horrible and not just for the USA either. But over all I thought the spirit of the Games was great. Great sportsmanship was on perfect display. The competition was passionate and good. Our track and field team left a lot of medals over there, and I never heard the first one blame anyone except themselves, (Some boxers were pretty upset though). I was very proud of these folks representing the USA, all of them.

August 24, 2008 - 18:21 ET by The SquigglerAlthough I checked the Women's Volley Ball win, I think my favorite was when the Aussie diver beat out the Chinese, depriving them of their 8th gold in diving, to win the Gold. And he did it with a near perfect last dive.

Favorite Olympic Moment?
August 24, 2008 - 18:25 ET by BlondeSeeing President Bush enjoy being a priveleged Olympic fan....horsing around with Misti Walsh & Kerry Trainor on the beach court.
Then seeing those two great gold medal champions give him a shout-out after their victory.
That was sweet!
And the best stuff I didn't see was any of the equestrian events (to which I was looking forward)..because it wasn't televised. Rat Ba****ds!

August 24, 2008 - 21:55 ET by UnsaneThanks, Blonde! The Olympics was missing some eye candy. I was really looking forward to seeing the Russian team enter the stadium during the Parade of Nations, but it wasn't meant to be.
GREAT highlight I just caught on NBC: of the Chinese basketball team standing tall for "March of the Volunteers" before getting promptly stomped by Team USA.

Blonde, you can several
August 25, 2008 - 01:13 ET by jdhawkBlonde, you can several hours of the equestrian events by going here: http://www.nbcolympics.com/equestrian/index.html. The "regular" videos are half way down the page. Also, if you install Microsoft's Silverlight Version 2.0 Beta plugin, you can watch the "exclusive" videos on the right site of the above page. In either case, you need a broadband connection to see them.
Where I live, they showed all but the stadium jumping finals on the Oxygen cable channel. The stadium jumping was on our affiliate NBC17.
Thank you, jd

It's finally great to see a female gymnast with tits and a shape rather than the shapeless beanpoles which usually compete. That was more than enough reason for me to watch. It was funny, aggravating, and totally expected - to see NBC take so much of what was being presented in China at face value.
Take the opening ceremonies for example: so much ooooing and ahhhhing over them, over how the Organizing Committee could get 15,000 people to perform in such perfect harmony as they did. I noted that they have had plenty of practice!

August 24, 2008 - 20:02 ET by UnsaneI voted for Phelps getting #8, but here is my favorite part of ANY Olympics:
Anytime I see the medal ceremonies and see that the Stars and Stripes are raised for the gold medal recipient (even better when a sweep) and they play the Star-Spangled Banner. Especially in Beijing.
usain bolt's 100 meter run
August 24, 2008 - 20:16 ET by AuH2Omanfar and away was the most exciting moment for me for 2 reasons...first, before the race no one was predicting anything special and even though he was the current record holder, the announcers were not expecting another record, and second the way he exploded in the middle of the race and blew everyone away. Phelps was great, but everyone expected him to win, and the basketball was not as good as an all star game. The announcing was poor, can't put any other way and of course the commercials were over bearing but I checked the schedule and just tuned in for the events I was interested in. Here in Philly we have a pennant race on our hands and football starts in 2 weeks, actually 1 week, so I'm glad it's over.

Women's Gymnastics and Men's Platform Diving
August 24, 2008 - 20:57 ET by CaringwhiteguyI couldn't contain myself as the Cheating Chinese Commies began to look worse and worse regarding breaking age rules in Women's Gymnastics.
It was also a true pleasure to see the Austrialian men's diver overtake the robotlike Chinese Commie on the last dive of the platform competition, snaring the Gold. The look on Chinese competitor's face was priceless.

August 25, 2008 - 00:20 ET by DaMavcouldn't have cared less, although I'm glad the US did pretty well from what I understand in some vague way. I wouldn't put anyone down who likes this kind of thing. I'd much rather watch professional sports or even college sports if I were to watch sports. Olympics.. meh.
I really enjoyed this
August 25, 2008 - 00:59 ET by jdhawkI really enjoyed this Olympics. It was great to see our fine young athletes compete. They did a wonderful job and the competitive spirit shown through on many occasion when the medal seem to be in doubt. It was just thrilling to watch them win and even when they fell short or lost they did so with grace and good sportmanship.
Nevertheless, what struck me the most was how often and vociferously they spoke of their love and respect for our country, the USA. If there was a single theme that carried this Olympics for me it was this sentiment by our athletes. It brought tears to my eyes more than once. I was so proud that they were proud of our country. They were just awesome.
God Bless the USA!
It's over.
