Don'tfeed.... you'll like this as well.
April 22, 2009 - 15:46 ET by Gary HallFor the record, there are plenty of folks trying to divorce Ira Einhorn from that role (I'd bet it's all in hindsight - ya think?).
Meanwhile.. perhaps the view of the currently recognized official founder of Earth Day, had some strong feelings -- that I don't think our national media wants us to hear:
Former Senator Gaylor Nelson, father of Earth Day, "We are preparing to celebrate the 32nd Earth Day just after the Census Bureau has announced that far from winding down in the 1990s, U.S. population growth boomed at its highest level in the nation's history! Not even the peak of the Baby Boom in the 1950s added as many people! This new population boom represents a profound failure in our nation's pursuit of environmental quality. Since 1970, another 80 million people have been added to the country. Every environmental goal has been delayed because of this failure."
Earth Day will come and go again - Nary a soul will mention the impact on earth from a population spiraling out of control. Herein the US mainly caused by unbridled out of control immigration, both legal and illegal. Stopping illegal immigration and make substantial reductions in legal immigration would have a more immediate and dramatic effect on improving the environment than any of this crapola Obama and crew are trying to pull off.

It's a religious festival
April 22, 2009 - 14:16 ET by mattmIt's a religious festival meant to glorify the creation rather than the Creator.
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen." - Rom. 1:18-25

Without the Author of Nature, "the earth and nature" are nothing more than a meaningless dance of inanimate, mindless matter, all destined for oblivion -- that's the hard cold scientific reality.
"Earth Day" is therefore profound silliness, a futile and ironic secular attempt at religiosity. So much for "enlightened progressivism."

Government Sponsored Religion
April 22, 2009 - 14:31 ET by Kingfish17Earth Day, Green Week, Global Warming, Cap and Trade, Radical Environmentalism, Gaiaism. These and similar beliefs are rapidly becoming a state sponsored religion. This is a worldwide religion, not just an American movement. The end goal of this religion is to halt the industrial and economic advance of man, and to make man subserviant to Gaia, the earth as a living super-organism: Earth as God.
Obama is making his move on Cap and Trade. There is no scientific proof regarding CO2 and global climate change, yet based on this religion, the government seeks to tax the very air we breathe. This will be a hidden tax. A regressive tax that will be passed along to consumers in the form of higher prices for everything they use. The type of tax that Democrats are famous for.

April 22, 2009 - 17:00 ET by SterlingOh my, what a bunch a Philistines… Is not earth day one of the best holidays of the year? I for one believe that today is a day to be one with nature- take a walk on a beach, skip a stone on a river, or even just read the great book Walden in a field of wildflowers. I personally, will be having a little get together with some friends and co-workers tonight. The little lady and I will be hosting a tofu party with an earth themed ambiance. Happy Earth Day to all!

Earth Day is to celebrate Communism!
April 22, 2009 - 17:59 ET by PopularTechFACT: The First Earth Day; April 22, 1970 was the 100th Anniversary of the Communist Mass Murderer Vladimir Lenin's Birthday (April 22, 1870)
Earth Day - Earth Day Going from Red to Green (FrontPage Magazine)
"Might it be mere coincidence that Earth Day [April 22] falls on Lenin’s Birthday? No, this link was apparently intended from the beginning. Sincere environmentalists who objected that Lenin’s Soviet Union was a despoiler of the natural ecology of Russia, a dammer of rivers and polluter of ecosystems, have been ignored or silenced."

Eddie Arnold = Earth Day
April 22, 2009 - 21:41 ET by Sterling"Might it be mere coincidence that Earth Day [April 22] falls on Lenin’s Birthday?"
Actually, this is a myth- being the great environmental historian April 22 was picked as the date of Earth Day because that was the birthday of the man who was instrumental in making Earth Day the success that it is today. Of course I am referring to Eddie Arnold the great actor of the small and silver screens. He was a man before his time- and he even gave the keynote address at the first Earth Day in 1970- among many of his accomplishments championed against the use of DDT. Here is to you Mr. Arnold let is all try to make our yard a “Green Acres”!
→ Make Green Acres go away
April 22, 2009 - 21:48 ET by Cool ArrowAre you sure you aren't talking about Eddie Albert?

I really do not understand
April 22, 2009 - 17:59 ET by SterlingI really do not understand why so many of you are against saving the Earth? This is not a conservative or liberal issue- even your nominee for the Presidency, John McCain said that the environment needs guarding; he even said that he believes in global warming. Who cares if I recycle- or convince my neighbors to be more responsible with their consumption of our natural resources- I have one neighbor who constantly runs his lawn mower during the summer during Ozone days- It is as if he is thumbing his nose at the responsible members of the community who decided that Thursday evening is the only time to cut grass. You see, this is the kind of behavior that needs to be brought to attention- and tonight at my Earth Day party we will come up with even more ideas to save the Earth; I am hoping for an Earth Day miracle- wish me luck!

I don't recycle and run my lawn mower whenever my lawn needs to be mowed. Your eco-insanity is proof positive that liberalism is a mental disorder. FYI...

CELEBRATE!!!
April 23, 2009 - 07:07 ET by John WIA great day to go outside......................and FART!!!
What to celebrate
April 23, 2009 - 10:32 ET by SpoonI think we should celebrate Human Day. It will be our victory over nature party. Nature is brutal and unforgiving. Got a limp? Food for the carnivores. Not enough foliage or prey? Sorry for the mass starvation. The bigger animal ran you out of the area? Hope you don’t freeze. Nature says, sorry, too bad, no help for you.
When we go ‘camping’ or to the ‘national park’ we don’t strip naked, forage for berries, and dig holes to sleep in under some twigs and leaves. We bring warmer clothes we made with huge machinery. We have canned food so it won’t spoil. We have guns because chasing down a deer or even a rabbit and choking it to death is really hard! Foraging? Waste of time. We plant, cultivate, and harvest. Much more efficient than nature.
So when we ‘enjoy’ nature, we are celebrating out mastery over it. Yes, we need nature. But we need fire, too. We don’t need it out of control, though.
So on Human Day, strike a match. Admire a piece of stainless steel. Compare your shorts and t-shirt to your thermal coat and pants and say, ‘hey, I’m human and can live anywhere! Nature will not dictate my existence anymore!’
Or, if you love Earth Day so much, rid yourself of your man-made possessions and live in the woods. Good thing it’s Spring. Good luck this Winter.
