The media is criticizing McCain for selecting a female, thinking he did it to get Hillary supporters.
I know that, as a conservative, my reaction to the pick is to finally be excited about this election. I am so tired of hearing that our party is only for "old white men." We know there are good women, African-Americans, and other minorities in our party. Finally, one of the women reaches the forefront. Since she has more experience in the executive branch of government than McCain, Obama, and Biden combined, she may be more qualified than any of them to lead.
McCain has made history by forever removing the stereotype that Republicans are all "old white men."
The media is criticizing McCain for selecting a female, thinking he did it to get Hillary supporters.
It may be true that that's his strategy, but notice that they say that in a derogatory way.
However, "Mr.Change" chooses a 35-year veteran of the Senate, and they hail it as brilliant!
But they're not biased......
For the record, I don't think it will draw a lot of Hillary supporters, but it might other women, and it certainly reinvigorated the hanging-back conservatives!
He sure didn't do it because she was the most qualified choice, which was Romney.
I am so happy you think the GOP should become the affirmative action party and start picking good Women, African Americans and other minorities instead of the most qualified person for the job.
Her executive experience is very limited:
- Former Mayor, Wasilla City, Alaska, 1996-2002 (pop: 6,715) (Votes: 909)
- Governor, Alaska, 2006-present (less than 2 years) (pop: 670,053) Total Career Political Votes: 188,125
Yours is really an embarrassing post, goes against every conservative principal and simply promotes affirmative action.
PT, you attack like a limp wristed Liberal. Talk about how she has governed. Talk about her integrity. Talk about the waste she refused to take part in... that was championed by the Republican party. Talk about the fact that she (unlike most other potentials) is a true small government Conservative.
Her experience is better than that of Obama... and her integrity is better than that of any other potential VP pick on either side.
I think we all need to suck it up and accept that this one long-standing NB member stands by his assertion that Palin does not have the necessary qualifications for the job of VP (a perfectly valid argument, too), and we should moveon.org.
I know! Some people are extra-stubborn, and simply have to have the last word, er, post. So, when it's two or more members like this, you get.... infinity.
I think it is funny that BHO's henchmen and women keep saying Palin is not experienced but if you look at BHO thin resume he hasn't done anything but vote present over 100 times. BHO isn't anything but a Saul Alinsky crone and a community agitator.
Yep , the gaul of that Palin woman is amazing. Good conservative women aren't supposed to run for office, their supposed to stay at home baking cookies and having babies like Mrs. PT does.
"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. "
No woman apparently don't have to have much of an education, much political experience or run a corporation, we should just vote for them because they look nice and are a woman.
Common' Pop, she has EXECUTIVE experience! I like you and don't want to get into a fight but she is more qualified than Obama! He has NO executive experiance! She has more than Obama, Biden, McCain combined!!! Give her a break. She took on her own party and cleaned up a corrupt system in Alaska, that takes "balls"! She doesn't play around, she get's things done. At least give her that.
I like Governor Romney. He would also have been a good choice.
Affirmative action is when an employer is forced to hire someone based upon their status as a minority. No one forced John McCain to pick Governor Palin. To the contrary, he saw her as the most qualified person to help him win the election.
The democrats can't win the "inexperienced" argument with Palin.
Palin's political experience is at least on par with Obama's. She has more executive experience, and more political accomplishments than Obama; he has been running and preparing for the oval office longer than she has. But, Obama is shooting for the top spot - Palin is not.
A vice president is in a much better and safer position to learn on the job than a president.
Palin has a real record of political achievement enacting reforms in Alaska and taking on the republican establishment there.
Obama supporters stutter and stammer around desperately trying to come up with ANY courageous, or innovative legislation that Obama has sponsored and successfully passed in his entire career - because he has none.
And it is Obama who has argued that judgement not experience is what counts (judgement like staying in a racist, neo-marxist church for 20 years).
I happen to agree with Obama's assertion that judgement (and I would add - character) are far more important than experience in the oval office.
Look at all the experience that ex-president Jimmy Carter has running around the world undermining U.S. foreign policy and breaking bread with genocidal, anti-Semitic bigots. He's got lots of experience and crap for judgement (and, I might add, he appears a very bitter and unhappy man).
I agree with your post. I wonder about those who say that Senator Biden fills in for the weaknesses of Senator Obama. Are they planning to be attached together at the hip during Obama's presidency? If someone asks Obama a foreign policy question, will his response be "wait a minute, I gotta go ask Joe?"
All this yammering about whether or not Palin will attract female Hillary supporters misses the point. While Palin may bring some centrist female voters, what she really does is nail down the conservative vote. Rush Limbaugh may never warm to McCain, but now he's willing to cheer the ticket, Also, if Palin turns out to be the real thing, conservatives can think about two terms of Palin in the White House sometime in the near future...
I've already heard someone hoping for a Palin/Rice ticket for 2012 and ironically mentioned them running against Hillary and a 'minority' to be named later.

Your Bio question is sooooooooo perfect because your resume rocks. I don't know what his is but I doubt it compares. I think he's very young.
PT, You invite us to find out who you are. Here are some choices for you: boring, troll, boring, your own term idiotic, boring, trouble maker, boring, a$$, boring, pain, boring, schmuck, boring, doofus, boring......etc. Go ahead pick one and then do us a favor, f**k off.
You seem to suggest that global warming can be atttibuted to an increase in the output of the sun. Here's a thought...collect all the excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere....freeze it into dry ice and then launch it into the Sun.!!
That will take care of the excess CO2 and cool down the sun at the same time.. I gotta be some kind of genius!!!
no it is a theory which is to be tested and either validated, modified, or abandoned by the use of the scientific method. Very much the same way the theory of evolution continues to fail in being validated and has been modified by adding the theory of 'punctuated equilibrium' to it's processes. The theory of 'punctuated equilibrium' itself has yet to provide a drive mechanism and will also require much research.
now get off your high mule
"You can not support the Troops if you do not support their Mission"
Are you crazy? Since when did the GOP become the party of Affirmative Action?
Lets see why you chose Steele..... maybe because he is black! This is so pathetic. I am sure you chose him over all the other former Lieutenant Governors governors for his qualifications!
So I take it everyone supports Affirmative Action now - hypocrites.
It was Lt. Governor and the fact that I like the things he says when he speaks. As opposed to Obama who says things I don't like to hear, such as "tax the rich" (meaning me, I have a job) or "change" (meaning let's build a Marxist society).
Race had nothing to do with it. If you were paying attention in chat last week, I said that McCain had to pick one of either Kasich, Jindal, Palin, Romney, Steele, or Watts. Notice I nevr mention anything about race? And do you even know who Kasich is?
Are you going to sit here and tell me you are supporting Steele simply because he was Lieutenant Governor? Please don't ever talk about Obama's lack of experience again.
I'm living proof. And I wonder what folks here, including you, would be saying if my first choice -- Prof. Walter Williams -- had been selected as VP? Bruce Tinsley (Mallard Fillmore cartoonist) and I and many other fiscal conservatives were REALLY pushing for this, but Williams said "no." Was/is he qualified?
AFAIK all he's done is be an economics professor, write some books & articles I liked, and co-host for Limbaugh (the only times I find that commercial-filled radio show listenable these days). No political office or "executive experience" (spending other peoples' tax money) whatsoever, but I've thought he was more than qualified to be POTUS for the past decade, and I'd still think so if he was white. Or any other color. It's about his brain, for some of us.
JMR
The tax & spend drugwar looks racist in the real world.
I think Williams might fail your "qualified" test, but I'm not sure what weight you'd put on being an economics professor & writing stuff sarcasmo likes reading. As for Steele, I think he's a very bright guy, but for various reasons which are totally off-topic for this discussion I do not trust him as much as I trust Prof. Williams to actually shrink government, instead of just talking about shrinking government. That's a big issue with me, because I've seen 2 decades of outright Republican theft of Libertarian rhetoric. However, trust from sarcasmo is only a qualification for sarcasmo's vote, and IMO both men are fully qualified to be VP even if I happen to like one more than the other.
JMR
The tax & spend drugwar looks racist in the real world.
Elected candidates are never the most qualified for their positions and never will be. Elections are about image and a more attractive candidate has a huge advantage over a less attractive candidate. There can't be any question in anyone's mind that McCain is more qualified than Obama. George HW Bush was obviously more qualified than Clinton. Clinton won because he was more attractive. Al Gore was more experienced than GW Bush and he lost because he was less attractive.
Qualifications are handled by Cabinet members. Positions, character and ability to lead are the most import qualifications. With those qualifications, you also need an electable image. It's not fair - it's the way the world works.
It's the same in business. People promoted to management are often not the smartest, they are promoted for their ability to lead and motivate the smart people.
Sarah Palin has proven she can lead and get things done, Obama has only proven that he can follow the mob bosses - he's never taken the lead on anything. His character and positions pale in comparison to Palin's. Palin is more qualified than Obama and probably even more than McCain. Both are more qualified than the empty promise do nothing Obama.
It's not pathetic to choose Steele or Palin for the diversity they bring as long as they meet the qualifications (leader, character, positions). All the qualifications in the world don't matter if you can't get elected.
Professional Experience:
- Pilot, Texas Air National Guard, 1968-1973
- Former Board Member, Tom Brown Inc.
- Founder/CEO, Bush Exploration, 1975-1986
- General Partner, Texas Rangers Baseball Organization, 1989-1994
Political Experience:
- Governor of Texas, 1994-2000
Successful businesses are run by smart people, you obviously do not have much private sector experience.
It is pathetic to support Affirmative Action and "Diversity" - what the hell is wrong with you people? Have you all been brainwashed by the left?
I know, why don't you rant on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on....
and that will make you feel better. Well, probably not. Get used to disappointment, November is just around the corner. At least your posts might coin the phrase "he suffers from PDS"
"I don't have time for this. You all can continue your co-dependency posts and make yourselves feel all chummy... Frankly, you all don't represent where America is going and you might as well get used to it."
This is a comment to a flawed analysis with the evidence in front of your face. It has nothing to do with November. Do you people even check the posts you reply to.
There were so many to choose from, I happened to pick this one to say the obvious. Don't "you people" get tired of opening your mouth and inserting foot?
"I don't have time for this. You all can continue your co-dependency posts and make yourselves feel all chummy... Frankly, you all don't represent where America is going and you might as well get used to it."
Truly a master stroke for the GOP..and I thought the son of cain was an idiot...Mrs. Palin has already turned the dumbocraps into a bunch of babbling idiots. Just read the Dims arguments of late...they are like cockroaches scrambling across the kitchen floor in a downtown crack-shack.
She has only given one little speech so far and the lefty media are biting their tongues off trying to belittle her!
Man oh man is this delicious! Thank you, Sen. McCain!
While there is a serious problem with her experience, and it somewhat takes it off the table as a hammer for the Republicans. (not that it will stop the Democrats or the MSM).
The good part is that a large part of American will say to themselves: Hey they are complaining about her qualifications as VP.. yet Obama is about the same (or Less) qualifications for President .
I for the FIRST TIME this year have a reason to vote FOR the Republican ticket, rather then against Obama.
I have been smiling for days.

Your Bio question is sooooooooo perfect because your resume rocks. I don't know what his is but I doubt it compares. I think he's very young.

August 31, 2008 - 17:48 ET by mandrakeYou seem to suggest that global warming can be atttibuted to an increase in the output of the sun. Here's a thought...collect all the excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere....freeze it into dry ice and then launch it into the Sun.!!
That will take care of the excess CO2 and cool down the sun at the same time.. I gotta be some kind of genius!!!
ID is not science
August 31, 2008 - 17:22 ET byno it is a theory which is to be tested and either validated, modified, or abandoned by the use of the scientific method. Very much the same way the theory of evolution continues to fail in being validated and has been modified by adding the theory of 'punctuated equilibrium' to it's processes. The theory of 'punctuated equilibrium' itself has yet to provide a drive mechanism and will also require much research.

The complete Affirmative Action Ticket! Is this the Daily Kos?
August 31, 2008 - 17:11 ET by PopularTechAre you crazy? Since when did the GOP become the party of Affirmative Action?
Lets see why you chose Steele..... maybe because he is black! This is so pathetic. I am sure you chose him over all the other former Lieutenant Governors governors for his qualifications!
So I take it everyone supports Affirmative Action now - hypocrites.
It was Lt. Governor and the
August 31, 2008 - 17:16 ET by Free StinkerIt was Lt.
Sarah Palin - This is what a Conservative looks like !
Hypocrite Affirmative Action Supporter
August 31, 2008 - 17:19 ET by PopularTechAre you going to sit here and tell me you are supporting Steele simply because he was Lieutenant Governor? Please don't ever talk about Obama's lack of experience again.
You can want a black guy to win *without* "affirmative action."
August 31, 2008 - 17:19 ET by sarcasmoI'm living proof.
JMR
The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.
Steele is an affirmative action pick and you know it
August 31, 2008 - 17:22 ET by PopularTechSteele is a clear conservative and nice man but suggesting him for VP is an affirmative action pick and you know it.
Your choice of Williams is based on his extensive economic experience - Ph.D. Professor of economics.
I've expressed no opinion on Steele
August 31, 2008 - 17:24 ET by sarcasmoBut does Williams' economics expertise qualify him for POTUS? I think so, even though he's spent nobody's tax money AFAIK.
JMR
The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.
Come on be honest...
August 31, 2008 - 17:33 ET by PopularTechI am talking about Steele, not Williams. He is not being selected for his B.A. in International Relations.
I fully agree about economics BTW.
I *am* being honest
August 31, 2008 - 19:58 ET by sarcasmoBut I'm talking about Williams, not Steele.

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.
Poptech - what kind of dream world have you been living in?
August 31, 2008 - 17:43 ET by Dee BunkElected candidates are never the most qualified for their positions and never will be.
Wrong Analysis, Gore was not more qualified than Bush
August 31, 2008 - 19:45 ET by PopularTechGore was not more qualified than Bush
Al Gore:

Successful businesses are run by smart people, you obviously do not have much private sector experience.
It is pathetic to support Affirmative Action and "Diversity" - what the hell is wrong with you people? Have you all been brainwashed by the left?
I know, why don't
August 31, 2008 - 23:34 ET by contraryI know, why don't you rant on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on....
and that will make you feel better. Well, probably not. Get used to disappointment, November is just around the corner. At least your posts might coin the phrase "he suffers from PDS"

She has only given one little speech so far and the lefty media are biting their tongues off trying to belittle her!
Man oh man is this delicious! Thank you, Sen. McCain!

August 31, 2008 - 06:43 ET by USA4freedomWhile there is a serious problem with her experience, and it somewhat takes it off the table as a hammer for the Republicans.
