It's a nostalgia thing.
June 13, 2008 - 19:53 ET by balboaIt's a nostalgia thing. Lakers / Celtics. I really can't stand the Celtics, but I have to say that I'd be very happy for Ray Allen, Pierce, and KG if they won the title, since it didn't look like any of them were going to before the Big Trade.
Colin Cowherd made a great point today: European guys go soft in the playoffs. Gasol, Vujavic, Kukovic, none have been very good.
You Missed One
June 13, 2008 - 20:27 ET by Del DolemonteDon't forget this year's Coach of the Year, Doc Rivers. He actually was Coach of the Year a few years back with Orlando, but they "rewarded" him by firing him after a 1-10 start somewhat later. They've never been the same since.
And I'm sure Red Auerbach and Johnny Most were perched somewhere "high above courtside" at the "Staples Center" on Thursday night, smoking cigars and laughing their asses off...
As a longtime Celtics fan, I would love to see them wrap it up in Boston, but wouldn't think it's the end of the world if they finish the job in La-La Land Sunday.
Kobe Bryant
June 13, 2008 - 23:22 ET by NortoAnyyone notice that during the Anthem he had his hands in his pockets? Is he from away or something? Boy, did that frost me and I could not have been happier to get up at 3am, crank up the Apple and read the score as I went to bed after the first.
What an ingrate, or so it appeared and until I hear differently(I emailed the Lakers) that is my position.

June 13, 2008 - 20:06 ET by DaBirdBeing a short white guy who can't jump, I've never been much of a hoops fan. But I do have to root for the Celtics. I would like to see KG win the big one. I live in Minnesota, and throughout KG's entire tenure with the Timberwolves he was a class act and a straight-up person. He never got in trouble, never complained and played hard all the time.

I love college sports but the pros have made it sooo hard to like them.

Hillarious.
Speaking of the pros....I've given them up altogether. A bunch of greedy, nasty people.

It's tough to watch
June 15, 2008 - 09:10 ET by ahusserThug Ball. The NBA and the NFL have a disturbing lack of diversity which for some odd reason is ok with the PC crowd.

June 13, 2008 - 22:46 ET by jdhawkI am not a fan of professional sports, but my youngest son is. He is visiting so we are watching the series. It is a terrific thing that really is bringing us together. It's the best Father's Day present a Dad can have!
Meanwhile, last night's game was really something. The Lakers had the Celtics by over 20 points at the end of the first quarter and were leading by something like 16 points during the 3d quarter. The Celtics came from that far back and that late in the game to win it. It was some kind of an effort.
Happy Father's Day to all of you so blessed . . .
Sounds great JD
June 15, 2008 - 01:37 ET by reasonsjesterThat's what used to be great about sports in America - the family angle of it. It used to cost peanuts to go to a game with the family and get hot dogs, etc. Now the parking runs you $25-$30 easy and the whole trip, especially NFL, can go up over $250. I would like to see the family atmosphere returned to sports - say to the athletes "cut out the drug usage and the thuggish behavior or you have to get a real job." I don't care if a guy is bigger and faster, if he's not someone a kid could look up to, or at least be ambivalent about, I say get him off the air.

Lakers-Celtics
June 13, 2008 - 23:59 ET by Ozonecharlieozonecharlie Wow! I can't believe the poll. Only 22% are going to watch the game or some of it.
I grew up in the Los Angeles area. This series isn't as good as the Kareem,Magic,Coop,Nixon versus Byrd, Dennis Johnson, Parrish et al series, but only 22% are going to watch!?
I don't know why they have the games starting at 9pm eastern time though. People do have to work.
There are good books to read and there is always Newbusters.
Go Lakers. I need to start praying though. The Celtics are hot!

Un, isn't there some rule about the Spurs only winning championships in odd-numbered years?

June 14, 2008 - 16:04 ET by UnsaneYou know, I have pondered that ever since the Game 7 loss to the Dallas Mavericks back in 2006. And that is a reason why I am already picking my Spurs to win it all again in 2009 :-).
Shockingly, I DO in fact have a use for the L.A. Fakers. If they can win tomorrow night, and go to Boston to take a Game 6 beat down in front of the Celtics fans, I get more in winnings from a good friend of mine than if the Fakers get put out of their misery tomorrow night. So, for once, I am hoping the Fakers can win, out of my own personal greed. :-)

June 15, 2008 - 01:32 ET by reasonsjesterBoston beating up on the Lakers is priceless, and the 24-point comeback in game 4 was extremely memorable. Can't wait for KG & Co. to seal it up on Father's Day!

College sports are my favorite, especially college football. The intensity and pageantry of the game, the traditions at many different schools each and every Saturday is unrivaled.
I do watch the NFL some. The Colts and Titans, but it's mainly just background noise while I try and nap.
