How about this Mr. Huston

Mr. Huston, as you will not endorse, I would be most interested in a suggestion poll of bloggers here for the CABINET as the above GOP contenders are going to need thee best assistance in the world for what is coming up.

Keep it to the main spots and I will start out with my suggestions:

Sec. of State: Fred Thompson.
Sec of War: John Lehman (Former Reagan Sec. of Navy)
Energy Sec: Tom DeLay
Homeland Sec: John Bolton

MM,

Actually, that would have been funny when Rep. Cynthia McKinney pulled her little stunt a couple of years ago.

I bet he would have b-slapped her before putting the cuffs on and taking her straight to the slammer.

Lame, you want to banish Fred Thomson to Foggy Bottom?

What did he ever do to you? Did he wee in your Corn Flakes or something? McCain should be sent there, as he gets along so well with those people.

Sorry, but that hideous, depressing place is nowhere to park Fred.

Look what it did to Dr. Rice, who seems to now want to negotiate with Iran.

No, Fred should be Sec. of War, a cabinet position that needs to be ressurrected.

A Better Cabinet

President: Mitt Romney

Vice President: Fred Thompson

Attorney General: Rudy Giuliani

Secretary of State: John Bolton

Secretary of Defense: Duncan Hunter

Homeland Security Secretary: Tom Tancredo

Energy Secretary: James Inhofe

Treasury Secretary: Steve Forbes

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations: Alan Keyes

PT - WOW!!

Your list is just what our country needs!  I was so sad to see Fred leave, but agree he would be a great complement to a Romney ticket.  All your other suggestions make perfect sense, too.  Guiliani would be a great attorney general and I've liked Hunter and Tancredo from day one as well.  I've sent $$ to Senator Inhofe even though I live far away in a distant bluest of blue world ;-)  Forbes would be great to get our country running in the right financial direction and we could most definitely benefit by having Mr. Keyes at the UN.  You really put forth a standard that I don't think can be matched, much less beat!

Now, the $64,000 question...how do we get these suggestions to those who could do something with them????

PS I'm reading Bolton's book right now and the man is so well-qualified it is disgusting how the Democrats acted toward his appointment.

Forward it to the Republican Party or Romney's Campaign

The Democrats do not want anyone in the UN who might be "insensitive" to other countries' pandering. Bolton might actually shoot straight and not take any BS - God forbid!

Jeez-0-pete

Great list, I agree -- but can you imagine the exploding heads all around the world when it was announced?

So True

I have talked to many people who went crazy when Bush was relected, not comprehending how we could relect a "dictator" (no lie). I could not imagine what they would say with this.

If the Republican Party ever decided to actually do something like this, they could win in a landslide.

Here's what you need to do. You need to figure out how to put your list in Romney's hand. Then you need to convince him to get a commitment from everyone on the list. Then get them all together and announce your team. I could see him winning the rest of the primaries easily and winning the general by a landslide!

theres a choice??

Mitt Romney is thy only HONEST one left in the running.

Who?

Mitt Romney is thy only HONEST one left in the running. Hukster says he didn't raise taxes(he did) McPain say amnesty is not amnesty(it is)

Flip Flop Romney? Honest?

The incorrect Flip Flop label persists because of bias

According to a new study at least.
I would say that any politician that says they have never flipped on some issues is the dishonest one.
I do believe McCain when hes says he hasn't changed on the issue of immigration. Amnesty will happen, but will have a biggger border "securing" sales pitch.

The words 'Romney' and 'honest' in the same sentence!

It's not that I expect my candidate to be 100% honest, what politician ever is? I just want a candidate whose positions I can trust, and not feel that they're his positions because he knows that's what voters on the GOP side want to hear.

"It isn't that liberals are ignorant, it's just that they know so much that isn't so" - Ronald Reagan

Forget it...

I'm not voting in the primary. I'll vote in the general election though. Outside of Ron Paul, worst candidate on the Republican side, all the candidates are just as bad as one another. Why play pick your poison when they're all shaky?

Any one of the original

Republican candidates (again, with the exception of Paul) would be better than any of the Democrats running - so I WILL vote Republican come November and hope we won't see a major "I'll just sit this one out" - remember what that brought forth last year!  We must retain the White House and regain the majority in Congress!  We are so close to losing the America we have loved, if Republicans stay home, I fear our country and all we and our ancestors have worked for will be lost.

Sure, it's 'only' an online

Sure, it's 'only' an online poll but it shows that the constant refrain about Fred being a stalking horse to help McCain against Huckabee was slander. Fred pulled more votes from McCain than Huckabee, and the most votes of all from Romney.

Maybe some of those who were pushing this malicious little meme owe Fred and his supporters an apology. Don't worry, I'm not holding my breath.  Let's let bygones be bygones and win in November with Romney.

My choice

None of the above.

I will write in my choice of candidate: Fred Thompson

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

A real dilemma

Where is the Draft Fred Thompson site?

I may have to vote for the Consitution Party candidate. I read the Club Growth review on several of the candidates...interestingly enough, Ron Paul scored well except for his demand for the perfect legislation. If he would accept progress for what it is and moving towards his goal, he might be serviceable.

[I wonder if Fred will re-enter the race. Is Duncan Hunter still running?]

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.

Duncan Hunter dropped out

Duncan Hunter dropped out yesterday or the day before. Ron Paul has ZERO chance of doing anything but being a Crazy Congressman from South Texas.

Just remember this, a vote for anybody or anything but the Republican nominee is a vote for the dimocrat. And this Nation cannot handle 4, or God forbid, 8 years of dims running the country.

It really boils down to this: Do you vote for someone who is 80 or 90 percent of what you are looking for, or do you allow the dims to take power, knowing full well the absolute mess they will make of things, because you don't agree with 10 or 20 percent of our nominee's idea.

Ronald Reagan would have a really hard time today, based on what I see some folks talking about doing.

Gary P Jackson

When the 10-20% of "our nominee's idea" involves my civil liberties, such as my right not to be forced to buy health insurance or my right to own guns, your argument is unpersuasive.  Some of us take our Bill of Rights very seriously, not saying you don't, but to many conservatives the war is the ONLY THING, and I think that's a big short sighted.

Frankly, I'm more concerned about Americans than I am about Iraqis.  I want to win the war, but not at the expense of our own country going broke at the same time.  You have to make sure your own heart is beating before administering CPR to someone else.

More of the same big government borrowing and printing money is what the Republican candidates stand for.  This robs me of monetary value.  I have no incentive to get out and vote in November, sadly.

Forget 911, I dial 10MM.

Definitely not McCain or

Definitely not McCain or Guiliani. I have serious concerns about Romney and Huckabee. Looks like we'll have a bad candidate running against a truly hideous candidate (The Dragon Lady being BY FAR the worst of all).

It's not good times for conservatives. It's our fault though. If there were really a lot of conservatives out there then Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, Sam Brownback, and Jim Gilmore would have gotten support, traction, and votes. Of course, it doesn't help that talk show hosts like Sean Hannity and Michael Medved are perfectly fine with every Republican, even if the Republican is a moderate or liberal.

McCain vs. The Dragon Lady: The ultimate nightmare scenario looking like a strong possibility.

Remember on Meet the Press in Feb 2005 McCain said "I have no doubt that Senator Clinton would be a good president." For that incredible IDIOTIC statement alone, I will NEVER pull the lever for that Hillary suckhole. Anyone who thinks that is unfit for the White House.

HE,

If there were really a lot of conservatives out there then Fred Thompson....

There are a lot of us out there, just not enough of us in Iowa and New Hampshire, hardly bastions of conservatism, there.

This entire selection process is fatally flawed for true conservative candidates. It really needs to be changed.

If Fred had just been able to hang on until Super Tuesday, when me and my fellow southerners could get in that booth and vote.....

As I am still researching Mitt Romney, I am voting NOTA for now.

None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. -J.W. von Goethe

I think it is HIGH TIME

for a NATIONAL primary day - SAME day - with HOURS set to accommodate the different time zones!!  That way the media can't be "predicting" from their exit polls and trying to dictate who will win and why you shouldn't even bother to go vote.

I'd like to know why my vote is not as good as that of a resident of Iowa or New Hampshire.  To take away the opportunity to cast your vote is not my idea of America.  Who decided that Iowa or NH or any other state could be the determining factors????  It's time for BIG TIME election reform - starting with a MUCH shorter pre-election period.  We really don't need to be innundated with 24/7 politics for several months before an election.

PS  It wouldn't have been just you and your "fellow southerners" voting for Fred, RDH, I was all set to do the same thing in this bluest of blue states!

CapeC,

I agree 150% with your sentiments. The current process is insane, and must be re-worked. I love your "same day" idea.

Funny how the current primary system seems rigged against real conservatives.

I mean, Sen. McSlam-us and Gov. Huckster? Leaders after Iowa and New Hampshire?

Give me a flippin' break!

None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. -J.W. von Goethe

Yeah RDHelm

I like that idea too.

What else gripes me is being a red voter in a heavily blue state. With our electoral college, my vote is really just a waste of time anyway.

I still do vote though. But I know it makes little difference.

candance,

Trust me, your vote counts. It may not be readily apparent, but it does, as someone, somewhere, is seeing it.

And whatever you do, make sure you cast a vote for your US House member, because that vote is the most important one you will cast in November.

Remember, all spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives. That is where all the trouble starts.

None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. -J.W. von Goethe

Oh yes RD

I always vote for as many of those people as I can. I was mainly talking about presidential votes.

And yes, as far as primaries go it is a rip off. My state hasn't done it yet. No one has ever called me to participate in a poll. So basically up until now I've had zero chance to say whom I want to vote for.

McCain vs. The Dragon Lady

Given that the MSM and the Democrats are practically begging for a McCain nomination, it makes one wonder just what they have in store for him. One thing is certain: It will be vicious.

The MSM keeps

The MSM keeps calling McCain the front runner like that is who they want.  If that isn't enough to scare you off of McCain I don't know what will.

The thing is, he is not the

The thing is, he is not the front runner, Mitt Romney is. Romney has the most wins, and the most delegates. And he's looking good for Florida.

Damn RINO's...

I refused to vote for any of these liberal "republican's"! My first two votes have already dropped out of the race. Not quite sure where I am going from here. May God save America, she is in need of his help!

"Too bad Ignorance isn't painful..."

JAB,

Damn RINO's...

Indeed.

None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. -J.W. von Goethe

So, R D Helm...

what's your take on who's left in the repulican field? I am open for any suggestions!

"Too bad Ignorance isn't painful..."

JAB, that is an excellent question.

Sadly, I have no answer as of yet. I am looking up a few more things on Romney, but, aside from his astute business acumen, which I respect and would find quite refreshing in a president (as most have no business experience to speak of) I am not liking much else I am finding, to be honest. His record on gun control alone does not exactly inspire much confidence in this conservative.

Actually, I was rather hoping Fred would make it through at least Super Tuesday. To this point, real conservatives have not really been heard from as yet. I was really surprised he did not finish at least second in South Carolina, as that would have been helpful.

McSlam-us and Huckabee are out for obvious reasons.

Rudy would probably be an excellent CIC, but that is about it.

If I decide against Romney, I may consider writing in Fred two weeks hence. It couldn't hurt, as most all of my friends have now informed me they will be doing the same.

-Unless I stumble upon a clone of Ronald Reagan along the way. Fat chance, there.

To be bluntly honest, for the moment, at least, it appears we conservatives do not have a horse in this race.

None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. -J.W. von Goethe

Horse in this race

We must realize Reagan isn't here to help. What I wish would happen is some younger hot looking great orator would come along and we could watch the money and support mount overnight. Since Hilbillery is a poor imitation of Bill and Obie Kinobi is an empty suit, our hero wouldn't have to have a long resume, just as long as we agreed with most of his positions. What we have is change for changes sake which is useless and Obie is a great speaker. Did you know Adolph Hitler was also a passionate and polished speaker?

Amen to that!  Rush

CT, where do we go from here?

There is not a true conservative on either ticket, so who do we vote for now? My back is getting weak from toting these lame bastards that are "poor", well I was once "POOR" too, but I made myself get up and do something different with my life. Do I have mercy? Yes. Do I have pitey, No, not when it is forced upon me by my government.

Even after all is said and done (after uncle Sam takes his toll) I still give to many charitable org's in my local community for the betterment of said same.

"Too bad Ignorance isn't painful..."

Fred's Not Dead (necessarily)

I sent in my absentee ballot two weeks ago for Thompson. Maybe he'll reconsider candidacy if he wins some states without being officially "in" the race for the nomination.

Heiki,

There is always the brokered convention. It may be conservatisms only real hope within the current republican party.

I'm with you on Fred, as he may yet return.

None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. -J.W. von Goethe

Fingers Duly Crossed

One can only hope. I don't want to vote for a RINO, and the alternative, that HRC or Obama get elected scares the crap out of me. Either of those two could to an incredible amount of damage in just four years in office, let alone eight. *shudder*

As a loyal Conservative

As a loyal Conservative who loved Ronald Reagan even though I considered him a moderate and George W. Bush is not active enough.........as I will take it that Fred Thompson is now kaput.

I will support the nominee and hope it will be Mitt Romney.

In stating that, Romney is ill equipped like all to handle monetary policy.

In stating that, I would support Huckabee, Giuliani and even McCain as a stubborn mule going in the right direction not knowing where it is going is better than a braying jackass no one can ride.

I have had it though with the cornmorons of Iowa, the syrup heads of New Hampshire and the cotton brains of South Carolina.......toss in the anarchists of Ron Paul and they certainly screwed up the process giving the globalists a ten mile head start on whoever limps into the GOP nomination.
I will not forget those people and I readily plan to remind them when this nation arrives at the dire need of leadership it will require in wars, disasters and Democrats in they years ahead that they are the dimwits to blame that a Conservative is not in the White House.

I will remind them past the bombs falling.

I appreciate your loyal slant...but I've got to ask...With Romney's business and financial background...how can you make such a statement?

mills...

This may help a little.....

 Romney Mandatory Medical

My son recently got his new bill for the Romney Medical Insurance in Massachusetts. His monthly premium jumped from $600 to $1000 per month. $12000 per year for a plan, not based on service, but a family of four's ability to pay assessed on income. The power to "fix" premium, is granted by his bill to the Insurance companies. There are no alternative choices, it is a must pay despite the expenses of the household.

With $30,000 per year income taxes, $10,000 Property Taxes, $2500 Auto Excise Taxes, Heating Oil @$3.45/gal and going up for an annual Heating Expense $7,000. Add to that the Morgage for a fixer-upper in Massachusets exceeding $20,000 per year, plus insurance for car and home; the cost of the Romney Medical plan is a hardship to most inhabitants and will soon impact the economy of Massachusetts. Is this his plan for the nation?

Rush Limbaugh stated that of the top 5 Republicans running for the presidency, only one was a true conservative. http://www.fred08.com/

-- There are no alternative choices -- clear thinker

Thanks for the info...but I'm not up to speed on Massachusets insurance requirements.

Are you saying that your son doesn't have any choice except to pay the $1000/mo.?

He can't shop for private coverage in lieu of this charge?

Mandatory Medical

This ... was the single scariest thing to happen on the state level in a long time. (It should be repealed immediately.) And it is the biggest problem with Romney.

insurance

clear thinker,

I'm still trying to decipher your son's story on health care.

-- His monthly premium jumped from $600 to $1000 per month --

Why did the premium increase?

What kind of plan did he have at $600/mo? State or private?

What is his family's yearly income?

-- Heating Oil @$3.45/gal and going up for an annual Heating Expense $7,000. --

That works out to over 2000 gallons of heating oil per year...Jamie Oil Co. in Ashland,MA says the average consumption per year is 900 gallons. How big is your son's house?

I'm just trying to make sense of your son's ability to pay and the drastic increase in premiums.

And yes, as a MA resident

you can indeed find private coverage.  You do not have to take the state's offering.  I don't like the government stating you MUST have coverage, but you DO have a choice.

insurance

cape conservative,

Thanks for the info. Clear Thinker's post provided just enough info to paint a really bad picture...I'm not sure it is accurate...but we'll see if he provides some info for a clearer picture of his son's ability to pay.

Any idea on the cost of private health insurance for a family of 4? I know it's a broad question...deductables, copay, etc...but maybe you have a middle of the road estimate for Massachusetts.

mills...

I'm afraid I cannot answer you with any certainty. This is not my son, it is the son of someone I know from another blog. I will do my best to find them and ask these questions.

Sorry I did not make this clear. I will guess that he was talking about state healthcare because it was posted in a thread concerning the issue. The other questions will have to wait.

insurance

clear thinker,

Thanks for being forthright...something that might be lacking from your blogger friend.

No need to chase down the info...lets leave it at this...his post didn't shed any light on the health care plan in Massachusetts...good or bad.

Romney's Health Care Plan Was Never Implemented

The Health Care Plan that Romney wanted was never implemented

The Massachusetts legislature made a number of changes to Governor Romney's original Health Care proposal.

Romney Vetoed Eight Sections of the Health Care Legislation, including:

- Romney Vetoed providing dental benefits to poor residents on the Medicaid program
- Romney Vetoed providing health coverage to senior and disabled legal immigrants not eligible for federal Medicaid
- Romney Vetoed expanding MassHealth (Medicaid) coverage to low-income children
- Romney Vetoed restoring funding for public health programs
- Romney Vetoed adding a provision charging firms with 11 or more workers that do not provide "fair and reasonable" health coverage to their workers

All Eight Vetoes Were Overturned

The legislature also rejected Governor Romney's proposal to permit even higher-deductible, lower benefit health plans

It is hard to blame Romney for the liberal Massachusetts legislature making changes to his plan and overturning Vetoes that have surely contributed to the costs.
