April 4, 2008 - 03:54 ET by Cool ArrowI think there is more political hay to be made if she gets a small tap on the wrist and continues about her silly "Hate America First" ways.
The Libs eat their own. But I'm noticing a frightening prenomenon within myself.
The more they are attacked, the more Geraldene and Hillary seem, dare I say, more likeable?
It's hard to explain, and certainly I can rebuke these devlish thoughts, and now y'all are gonna be sayin'
"Too much information, there wuss!"

April 4, 2008 - 08:28 ET by BenderRandy was not suspended/fired for her past hateful statements about Bush/Cheney/Republican Party so why bother when she speaks 'truth to power' (as the liberals say)?
It is refreshing when Democrats attack each other.

April 4, 2008 - 03:57 ET by tracheostomyI voted "no" in order to isolate her and her resume. Keep her where she is and watch her career flame-out. If she moves around from job-to-job she'll just get more exposure.

April 4, 2008 - 04:01 ET by Cool ArrowYou know? It occurs to me we are always pointing the finger at the Libs for pampering their victims, and here we are at NB crying about being victims of Liberal Bias every day.
Difference being, we don't have a plantation owner to whom we can show our aggrieved heart.

I voted "no".
April 4, 2008 - 10:07 ET by SyriusPJ,
Though I was surprised at her outrageous comments, she is allowed under the Constitution of the United States to speak freely. There are, and always will be, consequences to free speech.
Now, how many of you enjoyed & supported her ripping on Hillary & Ferraro? Come on, besides the crude language, how many of you on this site replayed that video over & over again...just for fun, instead of outrage?
Syrius
I agree, she has a right to
April 4, 2008 - 12:35 ET by dscottI agree, she has a right to say what she wants on her own time, especially when it is part of a stand up comedy act. If she were running her yap on Air America, now that would be a different story then the owners would be within their rights to act since she would be on their dime conveying a message to their customers. An employer has a right to discipline employees who cast the company in a negative light by their actions while on company time acting as the agent for the company.
On a purely political level, snicker, snicker, snicker, and no I didn't replay it, I just heard the snippets. I don't like filling my mind with crap talk, there is only so many memory cells to go around and I don't want the possibility of it being on an endless loop. I call it poetic justice when someone gets what they dish out, the politics of personal destruction in Clinton's case.
For us conservatives it's a double win, not only does Clinton get her just desserts but an Obama supporter acting childishly gives us the confirmation bias of what we believe the maturity level is of the Dem Party Operatives. So heck no, she shouldn't be fired, let her run her yap, trash as many Dems as possible, Clinton, Ferraro, etc., it's the gift that keeps on giving. LOL

Randi
April 4, 2008 - 12:25 ET by okiehawk44RR is a known quantity here in south Florida. All she ever wanted -- and she was pretty open about it -- was to get a national audience. She sent tapes off to NY to D.C. to LA. Now she is a "L"iberal but she was (and still is) willing to be a "C"onservative or a polar bear or anything else if it will assure her a national show and her name in lights. RR's ambition reminds me of Arianna Huffington without the rich gay husband or the smarts.

April 4, 2008 - 15:10 ET by ConservativeRexOkie, while I have never listened to her myself, this thing smacks of a set up job to get people to listen to her sorry butt. I may be wrong, but this wouldn't be the first time someone in her business has done that. She said it, but I think her handlers came up with the suspension deal.
The better question is...
April 4, 2008 - 05:02 ET by Parker1227...will the left start taking care of their own, weeding out their nut-cases (like the right has been doing for a long time), or is Obama's message about "a new kind of politics" just all rhetoric?
Fired from what?
April 4, 2008 - 05:09 ET by sam.i.amWho cares? I didn't even know she still had a job. I heard once that she has a liberal radio program. Then I heard about her falling down drunk one time and knocking her teeth out. Then this. That's it.

April 4, 2008 - 05:49 ET by USA4freedomI voted no as well, I want to keep them in their place so every one can see. I would like to see Rev. Wright do weekly sermons from the Capital steps. Shine a light on these people. Let all of the US see what classless jerks they are.

Yes
April 4, 2008 - 06:34 ET by ThisnThatI say yes, just so I'm different from all the liberal pundits. I just heard one of them say "I'm afraid if she is fired, then we're saying we believe in censorship". REALLY? Ask Imus about this. Besides, censorship doesn't apply unless the Government is doing the censoring.

It was the targets
April 4, 2008 - 07:15 ET by CaringwhiteguyLet this be a lesson to us all. Randi called a couple of rich white women foul names. Imus called a bunch of young, mostly black women a name. She's covered because her targets are not a protected class, and therein lies the lesson.
Race is the third rail. Speak no evil (or harmful truth for that matter) about a protected minority. You risk speedy retribution. That's why Obama has the upper hand in the primary and will have the upper hand in the general. He's teflon.
I brought Randi Rhodes to Air America's attention
April 4, 2008 - 06:51 ET by P.J. GladnickI voted "No" mainly because I feel I have sort of a proprietary interest in Randi Rhodes. You see, it was your humble correspondent who first brought Randi to national attention. It happened in July 2003 when she was still unknown everywhere except for a small audience on a low power radio station in Palm Beach County Florida. That is when I, in my role as a "typist" for the "Al Gore At The Movies" reviews, had "Al Gore's" review of "The Italian Job" published in the Laissez Faire Electronic Times. That periodical is no longer in publication but here is the relevant excerpt about Randi in that review republished in the Free Republic:
I think Randi appreciated the attention I brought her through this review because she later sent me an e-mail with a thank you of sorts. So if you want someone to blame for putting Randi in the national spotlight, I plead guilty.
I can only imagine what she was like
April 4, 2008 - 07:52 ET by sarcasmoBefore Randi mellowed out and lost that nutty edge. ;) Or maybe you had nothing to worry about, "Al"!

But I also support a private company deciding its own policy, so if they want to fire her for their own reasons, so be it.

This was a publicity stunt by Air America to try to boost their anemic ratings. They are hoping that this publicity will boost Rhodes' listenership (is that a word?) into 6-digit territory.

It wasn't "views"
April 4, 2008 - 12:48 ET by ThisnThatThis was vulgar profanity, directed at a person. That goes to character, and supercedes any "viewpoint" she might have. If she was simply expressing some views (such as she doesn't think the women are qualified, for example), this wouldn't be a story.

I voted No...
April 4, 2008 - 07:50 ET by heldmywNot because I don't find her vile, despicable and repugnant, but because vile, despicable and repugnant is the Liberal way of life.
It would be like demanding a pig not wallow in it's own filth. It's what pigs do, and they are happy doing so.
Should we judge the filth-wallowing pigs? I think not. What would be the point? It would waste our time and annoy the pigs.
But a good, stout fence around the sty is appropriate. You don't want them wandering loose.

April 4, 2008 - 08:09 ET by dmntd1You can't fix stupid. She reminds me of a song from Sunday School.
Might as well let her stupidity stay on display.

April 4, 2008 - 09:16 ET by Don DeskinsShould Randi Rhodes Be Fired?
There should be an option "Who cares?". No one listens so why should anyone care?
I vote No.
April 4, 2008 - 09:16 ET by MearlineShe wasn't funny. She has a filthy mouth. And I think she is probably an unhappy, mean spirited woman. I think she should be allowed to continue to be representative of the left.
Stupid but...
April 4, 2008 - 09:26 ET by RiharI say "no" because it was stupid but it was satire/stand-up. Do I think Air America is stupid as well? Yes but they are digging their own grave. Randi is just greasing the skids for the arrival of Air Weather and Traffic radio.
When a liberal speaks, the truth is busy elsewhere.
Ridiculous Idea
April 4, 2008 - 09:59 ET by ecnirPI think it's a ridiculous idea to hire someone to be a controversial broadcaster and then fire or suspend them for being controversial. I tire of the constant refrain of demanding of others the firing, censorship, suspension, or fining of people who say things. We're driving honesty out of the public conversation. That's not a good thing.
But think about it...
April 4, 2008 - 10:04 ET by sarcasmoThey hired her to be a controversial broadcaster. Not to be controversial to wealthy Democrat potential ad-buyers who might be fans of Hillary's at their party. I'm all for free speech, but I can see the distinctly-capitalist point of a lefty-broadcaster that's trying to sell air time telling her "this isn't what we wanted" by doing this.

April 4, 2008 - 10:16 ET by CrashNo, these were off air comments ... if a tree falls on a bear crapping in the woods.
But hey, it was perfectly acceptable to make jokes on Err America -complete with gun shots - about killing the president. Talk about moral turpitude run amok.
do you want randi rhodes fired for some sort of payback ????
April 4, 2008 - 10:17 ET by lunaticcringeradioi can't figure out why we have so many intelligent comments defending the drunken fat tongued retard, but the vote count for her to be fired outnumbers the common sense written down.
she was hired by a radio station to talk and say outrageous things, just so happens she started firing in the wrong direction that they wanted and now she's being punished? i can't stand the phoney slip & fall face planting into the sidewalk drunk, but i'll defend her right to free speech. now i can agree that her employer might decide to fire her for failing to perform(low ratings), but not to be fired for saying something her "handlers" don't agree with. if you just want to see her fired to get a lil payback or getting even, then you aren't a true conservative with integrity. a good conservative defends the same rules for everyone equally, with thoughtfullness and compassion. if you want to start picking and choosing when and where you want to enforce rules, then you become a draconican liberal.
this is the reason we have freedom of speech is to protect unpopular speech. let the loonies spew their stooopidity, as she for example does so well. you need to allow unpopular people to speak freely so we know what they are up to, if you hide them away and they'll plot secretly in the shadows. freedom of speech is it's own checks & balances.
of course i do find this who liberal reaction ironic since the liberals are the ones who tend to lay claim falsely(as they do to so many other things) to free speech. they are exibiting the very hipocracy on this subject that conservatives have been screaming for years. conservatives have been denounced at every account regarding liberal double standards, but now this is a prime example of the liberal hipocracy against conservatives has been turned on one of their own. just watch though how well this will be covered up in the msm, nothing will be said, but i would like to make a prediction.
my prediction is that the drunken downs syndrome speech pattern of randi rhodes will be quickly heard again and her suspension will be cut short. once the liberals catch on that conservatives are pointing out how hipocritical they are they will quickly retract their decision as an error and randi rhodes will be back on the airwaves again after a secret back room agreement that if she ignores this whole incident and never speaks about it she'll be allowed to go back on air only to bash conservatives like that. and she's dumb enough to take a deal like that too, because what else does she have to fall back on, her principles? ha. hahaha. hahahahahahaha. hahahaahahahahahahahahah a liberal with principles hahahahahhaahahahahaahahahahahahahahaha.

April 4, 2008 - 13:25 ET by Cool ArrowThe correct words to express an extreme lack of caring is "I couldn't care less".
An extreme amount of agreement therefore is: "I couldn't agree more"

Randi Rhodes should NOT be fired
April 4, 2008 - 11:02 ET by DelsaLet it be known I live in South Florida where R R was on the radio. No one listend to her then and no one listens to her now.
If she had said this on the radio in the way she said it in San Fran then she should be fired. BUT
She was in a private venue speaking in front of like thinking people. She has a right to be as disgusting as she wants with people who enjoy her thoughts.
FREE SPEECH!
I cannot stand her but I would not want her fired for this.

April 4, 2008 - 12:22 ET by Tom1969ca...I feel her suspension is sufficient.
People like Randi Rhodes serve an important role in our political discourse - they perfectly demonstrate what liberals truly stand for, as well as providing an example of Liberal Strategy 101: "When you cannot argue with the person's ideas, attack the person."

funny comparison of reactions
April 4, 2008 - 14:39 ET by lunaticcringeradioyou know when imus was fired, if you took the time to scan through the daily kos, democratic underground, rat hole to rat hole of liberal websites, there was a pretty consistent theme. the reaction was of glee that a "right wing talk show host" was going down and then adding to that many were hopful of a new trend where the likes on ann coulter, boortz, hannity, limbaugh, savage, humpries, fox news and anything else they could find might be silenced and removed also. i can't honestly say that there wasn't one level headed liberal out there that respected the right to free speech and thought it was wrong to fire imus, but the overwhelming majority of liberal comments were of bitter teeth knashing hatred and a bloodlust desire for more.
funny how when something similar happens to a liberal, the same does not transpire. wonder why?
maturity?

integrity?

maybe it's just that conservatives tend to have much more in all those catagories than liberals do.

This is the ultimate issue for conservatives to take the "high road".....we must defeat the "Fairness Doctrine" at all costs.
Perfect venue. Perfect poster-freakazoid lib. There's no turning it around, for the other side, if we support Rhandi's right of free speech. (Free Speech is an American right...she did this outside of her employers purview....so there are no entangling side issues, here).
