Just your basic,
May 29, 2008 - 13:01 ET by HelenSJust your basic, garden-variety, whining malcontent. I hope he's embarrassed at the outfall from his steaming pile of ... He probably hoped it would generate ire against President Bush but it seems rather to be more of a reaction against himself that he's stirred up.
So squirm, slug.

I have to wonder if Scott
May 29, 2008 - 13:05 ET by bassndudeI have to wonder if Scott really wrote this book, or, if it was written by a ghost writer, with Scotts input in there. Scott really hasent impressed me with his ability to speak. I remember watching some of his press interactions. He never struck me as real bright or well informed.

May 29, 2008 - 14:05 ET by bassndudeLike he would admit to anyone that he did not write it? What? And end his chance at millions? Please bal, you really think he would fess up on this at this point in the marketing hype? Your smarter than that.

May 29, 2008 - 14:08 ET by balboaI find it hard to believe that that could be kept secret.

How long did JFK get away with the notion that he actually wrote "Why England Slept" and "Profiles in Courage," Bal?

seriously bal
May 29, 2008 - 14:29 ET by candanceIn the age of every celebrity writing their own book, it's standard practice for them to write a page or two, explain the gist to an intern, and slap their name on it when it's done.
Unless I see every original page released in McClellan's own handwriting I don't believe he wrote it all - and the same goes for a book Dick Cheney or Newt Gingrich would write.
I've worked around publishing long enough to know how the game is played.
McClellan was
May 29, 2008 - 14:15 ET by fitzfongMcClellan was incompetent. McClellan (finally) got fired. McClellan became bitter. McClellan realized someone would pay him to express his bitterness. Sensing he was respected by neither liberals nor conservatives, McClellan figured his only growth potential was with the left. If I was an incompetent with no future like Scott McClellan is, I probably would have made the same decision as he did.

Expect all sides to
May 29, 2008 - 14:21 ET by balboaExpect all sides to redefine McClellan in order to either boost or
reduce his credibility. To the Right, McClellan will have been the
worst press secretary of modern times, and to the Left a man of
extraordinary ability chased out of his job by Bush’s minions. The
truth will be somewhere in the middle.
That sounds like
May 29, 2008 - 14:34 ET by sarcasmoExactly what's happening.

Not quite, bal. The Right
May 29, 2008 - 14:44 ET by fitzfongNot quite, bal. The Right always knew that McClellan was a pathetic press secretary (the fact that Bush didn't see this at the time is to his detriment). And don't make me laugh, the left never considered this clown to have "extraordinary ability"...not then, and certainly not now. They have an axe to grind with Bush, and since McClellan has found it expedient to have himself pimped out by the media, the left will gladly portray him as a paragon of ethics and competence. Doesn't pass the smell test.

May 29, 2008 - 14:36 ET by fitzfongEasy, bass. I was simply commenting on McClellan's situational ethics, and I noted that were I as incompetent and devoid of a future as McClellan is, I might have made the same decision. But because I am highly competent and ethical, I would never find myself in McClellan's precarious position.

It’s obvious that Scott
May 29, 2008 - 14:29 ET by pocomocoIt’s obvious that Scott didn’t get the love and respect he so craved from the Bush administration, which resulted in his so-called ’tell all’ book.
After the MSM use him up, they’ll throw him under the bus and roll over him twice.
As Limbaugh said today, he will then be persona non grata by both the left and the right.
The next Cindy Sheehan
May 29, 2008 - 19:02 ET by ReaverYou called this one poco, McClellan will be the next Sheehan. The media will use him for as long as it advances their narrative and then they will forget he exists. Cindy can't even get arrested these days.
This is more than party
May 29, 2008 - 15:13 ET by sarcasmoIt's family. Scott's Mom had issues in 2006 with the Texas Republican Party, right as the White House let him go. Whether it's him or a ghostwriter & the book is true or false, this was payback.

Without reading it, I can't
May 29, 2008 - 16:48 ET by Chris NormanWithout reading it, I can't say. However, I suspect that the "juicy part" was highlighted by everyone - him, the publisher, and the media - revenge for him, political attacks for the publisher and the media, and sales for him and his publisher. Without the back-stabbing, the book could might as well have been titled "Memoirs of a Lame and Ineffectual White House Press Secretary Before I Go Into My Richly Deserved Obscurity".

May 29, 2008 - 20:34 ET by ConservativeRexWho in the hell is ever going to trust this knucklehead again? He wrote on convos he overheard President Bush have on the phone? Who's going to want him around? This is possibly the best job I have ever seen of an idiot burning all his bridges. The left will love him for about 24 hours, and then what?

Hind Sight Is 20/20
May 29, 2008 - 21:56 ET by CrashSo much of what I've read has to do with Scott speculating and trying to put reason to what happened after the fact. It's like watching the movie Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room. They interview employees who act like they had all of the knowledge of what was going to happen way before it happened. Funny thing though ... they still got burned holding worthless shares of Enron. The correct answer is the media is making a big deal about a jilted press room lackey; Not as Bush-bashing as media suggest.
They did the same with the Fox book. I spoke with Vicente about his book. He was disappointed by the hype of what the media deemed negative as they brushed the positives aside; he was only pointing out the differences he and President Bush had.
Guess what? Bush and Cheney don't agree on everything.
