For those who missed yesterday's post

Let's not rob from Peter
September 12, 2007 - 06:43 ET by CaringwhiteguyI hope chats will be used rarely. One of the strengths of NB is the thoughtful posting done by editors and participants. To clog the board with chats may well erode the posting process.
Just my opinion
September 12, 2007 - 08:06 ET by HelenSMy sense is that if it is run too frequently it will be novel and entertaining for a while but then it will deteriorate to either a banal exchange of way too lengthy a duration or will fall into disuse.
In order to maximize its effectiveness or use, it should be saved for "Breaking News!" or other interesting distractions.

September 12, 2007 - 08:45 ET by JDWThis format was the format. How many talk show radio programs are not evolving yet gaining a greater share of the audience? Really, the script here is still HTML.
One must be willing to consider the surprise introduction of the Chat room yesterday and in turn the UNBELIEVABLE NUMBER of responses. Don't give your audience what they want because you have an alternative you believe is better? Allow them to choose. Diversify.

September 12, 2007 - 12:35 ET by Conservative_in_mass.The chat feature, if not overdone, is an excellent method to learn a little bit more about other posters as well as contributors. I hope it becomes a regular feature here.

A little information is a dangerous thing in allot of chats
September 12, 2007 - 13:43 ET by Lame CherryI will remind Newsbusters of the original Newsbusta Ronald Reagan in realizing you do not start campaigns before Labor Day and you do not end up on television or people get bored with you fast.
If Newsbusters keeps exanding to the mob, you will have a mob which is ignorant and ranting being drawn in by the Warhol moment in the dark brood.
I just posted in the bio fuels section trying to correct a group of ignorants who have no idea about crop production, finance, market trader driving up food prices and it not being bio fuel whatever as all that is taken out of corn and beans are oil and starch leaving the food product.
I will not take part in chats for the same reason I will not sit in coffee shops daily listening to people who just like hearing themselves talk on a stage. If you limit it to special events then the editors here will be in charge and people will add to your informed judgments instead of the editors being burned out and some dufus taking control posting Huffington Post type rants which will not go corrected as in the biofuels posting.
A little information is a dangerous thing in allot of chats.

September 12, 2007 - 18:25 ET by BlondeI kind of like the idea of having the chats open for special events / breaking news kind of stuff.
And maybe have it up on weekends when things can get a little slow around here.
But I suspect if it's here all the time, it will detract from the real "meat" of NB's...the great discussions we have here.
Although troll bashing in real time might be kinda fun.
