The Bush Lied
September 18, 2007 - 10:05 ET by Rospeople died thing just ticks me off to no end.
Running a close #2 are the troofers. I had to go off on one at the rec center the other night. She was sitting next to me and my wife on a bike and tried to convert us.
After I turned her "building 7" rant around on her she got up and moved to a stairmaster....which proceeded to break less than 1 minute after she got on it. Gotta love Karma.

September 18, 2007 - 17:08 ET by krismcsherrySo it was hard to pick but the last one gave me a chuckle. It comes down to which one I hear pounded out day after day. With the radio ads California runs for the nanny state about energy/AGW (inextricably entwined for them) all day long I sometimes can't even listen to talk radio any longer. The other "issues" are easier to avoid.

I spent ten years with Naval
September 18, 2007 - 10:58 ET by BruzillaI spent ten years with Naval Air Systems Command, and working for various other DoD efforts, and I agree with the statement that we went to war over oil. Since coming to power, Hussein had one goal: unify the Middle east and place it under his control. He tried to do this militarily by taking on Iran and lost. Then he tried to do it spiritually by taking Mecca, but to take and hold Mecca you have to be able to take and hold Saudi Arabia, and to do that you need to take the ports at Jeddah and Jubail. Hussein needed to launch a ground assault from the north, while coming to Jeddah and Jubail from the sea. Problem was that while the French had agreed to sell him the amphibious ships he needed, he didn't have any deep-water ports to support them... but Kuwait does... hence the invasion of Kuwait. After plab B failed, and Hussein lost his air force and most of the Army, he had no choice but to go the WMD route.
So why the war? Because if Hussein succeeded, and consolidated the Middle East, he would have control of 40% of our oil, and larger percentages of the oil of most of our allies. If he could buy support from Germany, France, and Russia with some oil vouchers and contracts, imagine what he could do if he held their economies hostage? Who would dare stand up to him? That's what we couldn't allow to happen.

completely illogical!
Re: 9.11 Inside Job
September 18, 2007 - 12:33 ET by tpmintxThe surprising thing about the troofers is that they believe that "An incompetent president, leading an incompetent administration, was able to assemble the biggest conspiracy in US history and execute it in less than 8 months; and then to keep it quiet for 6 years!"
And they managed to do it without leaving dead bodies all over the place.

September 18, 2007 - 12:52 ET by BDWe also somehow developed a detonation cord that is impervious to 2000 degrees heat. Then we somehow removed all walling in order to emplace heat proofed demolition charges directly to stress bearing members of the twin towers with out any of this being seen by survivors in the days leading up the 11 September attack.
To be a truther takes a great deal of the power of make believe.

September 18, 2007 - 13:00 ET by MikeBI had to go with 9-11 being an inside job. Actually, that one is beyond annoying and well into irritating, especially with all the debunking that has been going on.
Global warming, especially anthropogenic global warming ...well, there are some scientists out there saying it's going on, and they've written some papers and produced some graphs, and the media don't bother providing the people the counter-arguments, so that one is understandable. Annoying, but understandable.
The media hasn't bothered to report on the chemical weapons that have been found in Iraq in an effort to maintain the "Bush lied" template. In that, the media has lied by omission. Those portable labs that were found in the first few weeks of the invasion was clear evidence of ongoing research and development of chemical weapons. Does anyone here really believe that they were being used for R&D and manufacture of insecticides?

September 18, 2007 - 19:29 ET by HumanEventsI can't pick one of these either. They're all so highly annoying, frustrating, disgusting, and many more adjectives!
There's also many more equally annoying myths, such as "Democrats are for the working people." Argggggh I hate that one! Or how about, "Liberals are for change." They're for change of party leadership when the GOP has control of the White House and/or Congress! And they're for change as in coins and confiscation of the American people's money!
A liberal persuaded against his will is of the same opinion still.
Many thanks to both Pat
September 18, 2007 - 22:19 ET by UnsaneMany thanks to both Pat Schroeder and blingbling65 for reminding me of another myth that is a pet peeve:
Somehow, because one is conservative, they either don't read, or there is some ballyhooed study (to justify the benefits of Nanny State Socialism, no doubt) "showing" that Liberals are smarter than conservatives. Those who make the latter accusation especially exhibit all of the traits they smugly accuse the conservatives of having.
From all I have seen, the Leftists get their talking points, and repeat them day and night, without thinking about them or bothering to at least figure out where they come from. That, and the most robust, serious policy debates are not to be found within the Left, or even between Right and Left: it is to be found between Rightists.

Posted earlier
September 18, 2007 - 23:41 ET by Blondebut I was so whacked out, as I usually am when I get home from work...that I clicked the entirely wrong button and sent my post off into the ether.
My personal choice was Global Warming.
It drives me absolutely insane that "AGW" is accepted as fact, and just thrown around as if it were an absolute truth of the universe. Hello Hurricane Season! (I can say that now....that it's the middle of September and the Jet Stream is cooperating...LOL).
I truly love the nature channels and shows...one of my absolute favorites is the "Blue Sea" on Discovery. The episode about the open Ocean...with all of the huge pelagic fishes....Wow, Wow, Wow!
But at the end of the episode....they toss in a little blurb about Global Warming.
Seriously, I'd spend the money to buy that series, just to see the great underwater photography....but I refuse to spend a dime on anything, or anyone, who gratuitiously supports the AGW myth.

Can we add mission
September 19, 2007 - 08:38 ET by rpkinmdBefore that becomes a lie or a distortion you have to define what mission was in view.
Taken in the context of that day, I thought it was the carrier's statement. But then again it could be the second option. The third option is completely unsupportable but that is the way far lefties and Dimocrats have taken it.
By far, the most irritating
September 19, 2007 - 10:22 ET by SmartypantsBy far, the most irritating myth to me is the "Bush lied" mantra that has been repeated ad nauseum by leftists everywhere. Political leaders from both sides are on record stating how dangerous Saddam Hussein was and how he indeed did have WMD's. Intelligence agencies around the globe agreed with this viewpoint. Even Hussein's own actions leading up to the Iraq War were those of a guilty man, who had much to hide. Yet, the left acts as if the entire concept of WMDs and the potential dangers of an Iraq led by Saddam Hussein was purely a concoction of Bush and his team of "neocons". This is a prime example of liberals ignoring reality and creating a world in their minds which fits their agenda.
