The Bush Lied

people died thing just ticks me off to no end.

Running a close #2 are the troofers. I had to go off on one at the rec center the other night. She was sitting next to me and my wife on a bike and tried to convert us.

After I turned her "building 7" rant around on her she got up and moved to a stairmaster....which proceeded to break less than 1 minute after she got on it. Gotta love Karma.

I agree 100% with what you

All pretty annoying

So it was hard to pick but the last one gave me a chuckle. It comes down to which one I hear pounded out day after day. With the radio ads California runs for the nanny state about energy/AGW (inextricably entwined for them) all day long I sometimes can't even listen to talk radio any longer. The other "issues" are easier to avoid.

I'd voted for Bush lied.

I'd voted for Bush lied. For the simple fact that I've seen the WMD's with my own eyes.

The "Blood for Oil" is a flopperoo. After all, were it true, prices at the pump would not be where they are, huh?

It's about a photofinish for the rest...

I spent ten years with Naval

I spent ten years with Naval Air Systems Command, and working for various other DoD efforts, and I agree with the statement that we went to war over oil. Since coming to power, Hussein had one goal: unify the Middle east and place it under his control. He tried to do this militarily by taking on Iran and lost. Then he tried to do it spiritually by taking Mecca, but to take and hold Mecca you have to be able to take and hold Saudi Arabia, and to do that you need to take the ports at Jeddah and Jubail. Hussein needed to launch a ground assault from the north, while coming to Jeddah and Jubail from the sea. Problem was that while the French had agreed to sell him the amphibious ships he needed, he didn't have any deep-water ports to support them... but Kuwait does... hence the invasion of Kuwait. After plab B failed, and Hussein lost his air force and most of the Army, he had no choice but to go the WMD route.

So why the war? Because if Hussein succeeded, and consolidated the Middle East, he would have control of 40% of our oil, and larger percentages of the oil of most of our allies. If he could buy support from Germany, France, and Russia with some oil vouchers and contracts, imagine what he could do if he held their economies hostage? Who would dare stand up to him? That's what we couldn't allow to happen.

Bush lied was always my

Bush lied was always my favorite. They pounded that during the election 2004. To this day, I get a chuckle when driving and see those Kerry/Edwards stickers still displayed. Makes me wanna roll down the window and ask them if they saw that Vietnam movie Kerry starred in cause his hair looked great in it.....not as good as Edwards.......but good.

Clinto lied, people died...

The Clinton perjury thing really struck a nerve with these people - but this retort was always seen as a desperately pathetic equalizer.

I love the fantastic irony of trying to lie about someone supposedly being a liar...

Only a lib...

How about adding to your "annoying myth" poll

Those against illegal immigration are "against immigrants."

It's particularly disgusting because it openly implies racism.

Yup

That should of been on the list.I am so sick of that garbage.La Raza which is a racist group isnt labeled racist even though they are.

I couldn't vote. There were

I couldn't vote. There were several equally as irritating.

Impossible to choose

They are all more than annoying. They are annoying and bafflingly ignorant. Except Global warming - that is at least understandable how people could buy into it. The others are all preposterous conspiracies that you really have to be in some type of la la land in order to believe them.

I beg to differ. The very

I beg to differ. The very idea of human-caused global warming is completely ridiculous. Who could possibly believe that variations in the Earth's temperature are due to anything but the Sun?

completely agree

The idea of human caused GLOBAL temperature change is completely and totally narcissistic.

Not the right adjative

Annoying is hardly the adjative I would have chosen. Some scatological reference would be more fitting.

Can we add "mission accomplished"?

Re: Can we add "Mission Accomplished?"

No.

it's not a myth - sorry,

it's not a myth - sorry, thank you for playing

It all depends on what your

It all depends on what your definition of "Mission" is.

Mission defined:

mission, military mission

an operation that is assigned by a higher headquarters; "the planes were on a bombing mission"

more help for you...

  • "Mission accomplished" style banners appear in three episodes of the Fox Broadcasting Company's television sitcom Arrested Development.[11]
  • The third season finale of HBO drama The Wire is entitled "Mission Accomplished." The third season uses the Iraq War as a metaphor for the failed War on Drugs, and is especially appropriate given the needless war over territory between two drug crews that dominates much of the third season.
  • In a FoxTrot comic from around the time of this incident, Jason receives a "G.I. Jim Presidential Photo Op" Aircraft Carrier Playset for Christmas, parodying this incident. His best friend Marcus says he thought all those were recalled, to which Jason responds "Santa must have shopped early."
  • On The Daily Show, Stephen Colbert lampooned the sign with the anagram "C'mon I lied, so scampish." Jon Stewart also lampooned this publicity stunt by wearing a flight suit and appearing in front of a banner that read "My Bad!"
  • On MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Keith Olbermann ends most of the broadcasts by stating the number of days since "the declaration of Mission Accomplished in Iraq."
  • Comedian Bill Maher pointed out that coincidentally the third anniversary fell on approximately the same date of the premiere of the Tom Cruise film Mission: Impossible 3.
  • On the November 11, 2006 episode of Saturday Night Live, one skit parodied a Donald Rumsfeld interview with him being moved out of his office. As the move was just being started, they showed a banner that said "Move accomplished"
  • On an episode of Scrubs, J.D. reads "Iraq War for Dummies". He then calls Turk saying: "I don't understand... I'm up to this Mission Accomplished part, and I have like 400 pages left!"
  • Filmmaker Michael Moore mocked the scene in his film Fahrenheit 9/11 by underscoring it with the theme song from The Greatest American Hero.
  • A video appeared on YouTube alleging the White House website's official video of the speech Bush made on the aircraft carrier has now been cropped to conceal the "Mission Accomplished" banner.[12] Some dispute that the edits to the video were for the purpose of hiding the banner, citing evidence that, due to camera angles, the banner would not have appeared in that shot in any event,[13] and that blacked out portion of the video likely covers television graphics belonging to the source of the video.[14]

The Scrubs example is particularly funny and poignant. I like Fox Trot a lot too, and I don't think I've seen that strip. Thanks for the laughs.

My Vote

Global warming may or may not be true but "mankind caused global warming" is the myth, but I had to vote for the 9/11 truthers as THAT has to be the most untruthful and damaging lie being promoted and it is believed by 1 in 3 dems

that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind
you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”

corrected NASA data is telling

If you plot the corrected NASA data (which you have to convert it to CSV yourself in order to do easily), you can see clearly that there is absolutely NO warming trend for the 20th century.

Where is this '1 in 3' stat

Where is this '1 in 3' stat coming from?

"If their sins were as scarlet, they are now white as snow" Isaiah 1:18

I wish I could vote for all of them

But the most annoying, is that 9.11 was an inside job.

If the administration were truly that evil, there would be brown shirts gathering up dissenters (including the idiot who made loose change) and ship them off to guantanamo... HELL, the conspiracy theory has brown shirt actions, and yet after 9.11 they stopped them?

completely illogical!

Re: 9.11 Inside Job

The surprising thing about the troofers is that they believe that "An incompetent president, leading an incompetent administration, was able to assemble the biggest conspiracy in US history and execute it in less than 8 months; and then to keep it quiet for 6 years!"

And they managed to do it without leaving dead bodies all over the place.

We also somehow developed a

We also somehow developed a detonation cord that is impervious to 2000 degrees heat.  Then we somehow removed all walling in order to emplace heat proofed demolition charges directly to stress bearing members of the twin towers with out any of this being seen by survivors in the days leading up the 11 September attack.

To be a truther takes a great deal of the power of make believe.

911 was a conspiracy!

I dare anyone to prove to me that Bin Laden and his band of blood thirsty thugs did not conspire to hit us on 911.

All of the Above

I did vote for Global warming. It is such a farce.Al Gored is such a flim flam man anyways.I like how he pushs it and owns companys that benefit from it.You never hear about that in the media.

I had to go with 9-11 being

I had to go with 9-11 being an inside job.  Actually, that one is beyond annoying and well into irritating, especially with all the debunking that has been going on.

Global warming, especially anthropogenic global warming ...well, there are some scientists out there saying it's going on, and they've written some papers and produced some graphs, and the media don't bother providing the people the counter-arguments, so that one is understandable.  Annoying, but understandable.

The media hasn't bothered to report on the chemical weapons that have been found in Iraq in an effort to maintain the "Bush lied" template.  In that, the media has lied by omission.  Those  portable labs that were found in the first few weeks of the invasion was clear evidence of ongoing research and development of chemical weapons.  Does anyone here really believe that they were being used for R&D and manufacture of insecticides?

"A communist is someone who reads Marx.  An anti-communist is someone who understands Marx."  Ronald Reagan

Bush Lied

Clearly Bush Lied is the most annoying myth.

It drove me to create my list: The Invasion Of Iraq Was The Right Thing To Do

. . . and no matter how horrific the terrorist attack, it's
conducted by losers. Winners don't need to hijack airplanes. Winners
have an Air Force. --P.J. O'Rourke

All of the above!

All of the above!

I can't pick one of these

I can't pick one of these either. They're all so highly annoying, frustrating, disgusting, and many more adjectives!

There's also many more equally annoying myths, such as "Democrats are for the working people." Argggggh I hate that one! Or how about, "Liberals are for change." They're for change of party leadership when the GOP has control of the White House and/or Congress! And they're for change as in coins and confiscation of the American people's money!

A liberal persuaded against his will is of the same opinion still.

Many thanks to both Pat

Many thanks to both Pat Schroeder and blingbling65 for reminding me of another myth that is a pet peeve:

Somehow, because one is conservative, they either don't read, or there is some ballyhooed study (to justify the benefits of Nanny State Socialism, no doubt) "showing" that Liberals are smarter than conservatives.  Those who make the latter accusation especially exhibit all of the traits they smugly accuse the conservatives of having.

From all I have seen, the Leftists get their talking points, and repeat them day and night, without thinking about them or bothering to at least figure out where they come from.  That, and the most robust, serious policy debates are not to be found within the Left, or even between Right and Left: it is to be found between Rightists.

Res tantum valet quantum vendi potest.

Kiss method

They use the KISS method with their talking heads.Keep it simple stupid.KOed would be lost without a teleprompter.

though there are others

which bug me more i had to go with 'the media aren't liberal' since the bias media is the reason the other lies are still around

Posted earlier

but I was so whacked out, as I usually am when I get home from work...that I clicked the entirely wrong button and sent my post off into the ether.

My personal choice was Global Warming.

It drives me absolutely insane that "AGW" is accepted as fact, and just thrown around as if it were an absolute truth of the universe.   Hello Hurricane Season!  (I can say that now....that it's the middle of September and the Jet Stream is cooperating...LOL).

I truly love the nature channels and shows...one of my absolute favorites is the "Blue Sea" on Discovery.  The episode about the open Ocean...with all of the huge pelagic fishes....Wow, Wow, Wow!

But at the end of the episode....they toss in a little blurb about Global Warming.

Seriously, I'd spend the money to buy that series, just to see the great underwater photography....but I refuse to spend a dime on anything, or anyone, who gratuitiously supports the AGW myth.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

Most annoying myth: That

Most annoying myth: That Isiah Thomas knows what he's doing.

Wow

How could they leave that one off the list?

Can we add mission

Before that becomes a lie or a distortion you have to define what mission was in view.

  • Was it the carrier’s mission?  If so it was accomplished.
  • Was it the military conquest of Iraq? (end of major combat)  If so it was accomplished.
  • Was it the pacification and establishment of a self sustaining government in Iraq?  If so that was not accomplished.

Taken in the context of that day, I thought it was the carrier's statement.  But then again it could be the second option.  The third option is completely unsupportable but that is the way far lefties and Dimocrats have taken it.

By far, the most irritating

By far, the most irritating myth to me is the "Bush lied" mantra that has been repeated ad nauseum by leftists everywhere.  Political leaders from both sides are on record stating how dangerous Saddam Hussein was and how he indeed did have WMD's.  Intelligence agencies around the globe agreed with this viewpoint.  Even Hussein's own actions leading up to the Iraq War were those of a guilty man, who had much to hide.  Yet, the left acts as if the entire concept of WMDs and the potential dangers of an Iraq led by Saddam Hussein was purely a concoction of Bush and his team of "neocons".  This is a prime example of liberals ignoring reality and creating a world in their minds which fits their agenda.
