Condi Rice would make an

Condi Rice would make an excellent VP choice, Romney has too many problems.  No specifics just a gut feeling.  Whereas Condi would be our race ticket.  I say that because she would be the one to bring up teh issues on Barak Hussien Obama without tipping teh race card objections. In other words the opposition would not get away scott free by saying it is a race issue dont go there or you hate me because I'm black.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Don't do it Mitt!

Mitt is too good a man to run with a Democrat! He'll win on his own merit in 2012 and fix the debacle we will have had for the last 12 years.

12?

not 20?

AS For Condi

I know she is brilliant BUT I do not have a clue where she stands on any issue.

I love her as a person and would vote for her if she was a conservative like me?

I simply do not know where she is on any issue. What we do not need is an unknown quantity in the second possition. Bad enough with the first position.

No Condi Rice please

"Our race ticket"? Are you serious? Condi has done absolutely nothing memorable in office. The last thing we need is a Republican affirmative action VP.

The Black vote is going to Obama PERIOD. It goes over 80% Democratic anyway. Romney is 100x more qaulified.

Condi needs affirmative

Condi needs affirmative action like Lance Armstrong needs a heads start in the Tour de France. Disagree with her policies but don’t insult her. But you’re right, 99% of the black vote goes to Obama anyway so it’s moot.

What are her policies?

What are her policies? What are her politics? What idea of her own has she ever passionately believed and espoused?

How has she done cleaning up the mess at State?

She plays the piano. She likes baseball. She chooses her words very very very very carefully.

Condi

is a brilliant woman.

And it is the NFL she wants to be commissioner of.

Ayn Rand

was a brilliant woman. Golda Meir was a brilliant woman. Kate Hepburn was a brilliant woman.

Condi Rice is a sports fan who can play the piano. The lifers down at Foggy Bottom are running rings around her.

Dr. Condoleezza Rice became the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, commonly referred to as the National Security Advisor, on January 22, 2001.

In June 1999, she completed a six year tenure as Stanford University 's Provost, during which she was the institution's chief budget and academic officer. As Provost she was responsible for a $1.5 billion annual budget and the academic program involving 1,400 faculty members and 14,000 students.

As professor of political science, Dr. Rice has been on the Stanford faculty since 1981 and has won two of the highest teaching honors -- the 1984 Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 1993 School of Humanities and Sciences Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching.

At Stanford, she was a member of the Center for International Security and Arms Control from 1981-1986 (currently the Center for International Security And Cooperation), a Senior Fellow of the Institute for International Studies, and a Fellow (by courtesy) of the Hoover Institution. Her books include Germany Unified and Europe Transformed (1995) with Philip Zelikow, The Gorbachev Era (1986) with Alexander Dallin, and Uncertain Allegiance: The Soviet Union and the Czechoslovak Army (1984). From 1989 through March 1991, the period of German reunification and the final days of the Soviet Union, she served in the Bush Administration as Director, and then Senior Director, of Soviet and East European Affairs in the National Security Council, and a Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. In 1986, while an international affairs fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations, she served as Special Assistant to the Director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In 1997, she served on the Federal Advisory Committee on Gender -- Integrated Training in the Military.

She was a member of the boards of directors for the Chevron Corporation, the Charles Schwab Corporation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the University of Notre Dame, the International Advisory Council of J.P. Morgan and the San Francisco Symphony Board of Governors. She was a Founding Board member of the Center for a New Generation, an educational support fund for schools in East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park, California and was Vice President of the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula . In addition, her past board service has encompassed such organizations as Transamerica Corporation, Hewlett Packard, the Carnegie Corporation, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, The Rand Corporation, the National Council for Soviet and East European Studies, the Mid-Peninsula Urban Coalition and KQED, public broadcasting for San Francisco.

Great Resume!

Great CV. Nice cut and paste. She has all the qualifications to succeed in academia . . . . and she'd make a wonderful choice as the female AND minority member of a diversity conscious board of directors. But my God, you're talking about running for Vice President of the United States here. She's never run for elective office, never been through the rigors of a campaign, and may never have kissed a baby. Where's the passion and excitement? Where's the charisma? Where's the leadership? When has she stared down some tinhorn dictator? In fact, when has she stared down some trouble-making bureaucrat at State?

How do you think the Israelis feel about her "support" vs. Hezbollah? Remember the Israelis? They are supposed to be our allies in the "War on Terror".

And she chooses her words very very very very carefully.

I did NOT say she should be VP or

a presidential candidate.

If she had no support for Israel they'd be in a soup now!

If she were a conservative on every level, then she could have my vote if she chose to run for office.

but for you to discount her resume is rediculous. And yes it is a cut and paste-so what? I forgot to commit it to memory.

Her resume is far superior to that of  almost a pilot McCain or Huckleberry hound!

What is your problem with her really?

She has to choose her words carefully?

SHE IS A DIPLOMAT for crying outoud!

To put her on a ticket for color balance is totally wrong and it would be compounded if she were not a Conservative to boot.

In case you hadn't noticed . . . .

. . . this blog is about potential running mates for McCain. In case you hadn't noticed . . . she chooses her words very very very carefully when she's talking about virtually everything! It doesn't matter if it's Zimbabwe, who's going to win the Masters or whether the sun rises in the east.

Furthermore I will concede Dr. Rice is totally competent to be on the faculty or staff of almost any university in this country.

Condi's "Qualifications"

Condi is more qualified than Obama to be president (as many, many are) but that does not make her a good choice for VP or POTUS. While she is well educated and a "nice person" her policy decisions so far have not been very exciting. Powell made a better Secretary of State and I do not agree with him on various issues. The reason I said affirmative action candidate is because that is the only reason people are talking about her, she is a black woman. Look if you REALLY like something she has done fine but don't say Condi to be the anti-Hussein or anti-Hitlary.

McCain's weakness is the economy which is NOT Condi's "strong point" her strong point is supposed to be foreign affairs which I have not been impressed with so far.

Now if you want to play emotional semantics, Condi will not pull black men vs Obama. Condi will not pull white women vs Hillary. Thus you gain maybe "some" black women. I said before the only GOP candidates that could hold or pull white women were Rudy and Romney vs Hillary.

Bush's Pleasure

her policy decisions so far have not been very exciting.

Condi works at the pleasure of the President. She advises on - but does not make - policy decisions. She's a good soldier, like Colin Powell was, and her positions may not reflect her actual beliefs.

She has stated time and again that she will not run for public office, which proves she is sane, and the point is moot.

Gov. Health Care Mandates

I know Gov. Romney is popular here, but he never gave a good answer on why he thought people should be forced to take health insurance by law. Republicans are supposed to understand the dangers of big government and government oppression. It should be everyone's right to make their own health insurance choices. This is not the sort of person who should be one heatbeat away from out highest office.

I would actually favor some

I would actually favor some sort of clinic approach for healthcare.  One where anyone could walk in or make an appoint for.  This would be for simple visits like flue or med checks.  From what information I have gathered it might be a good thing.  The problems that arise are the scope of such clinics and the Democrats would not leave well enough alone.

And then we get into funding enough of these clinics to make a difference.  So they would not work out and health care would cost more and we would have less.  But it is a dream.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

→ Dan the Man

Look for Walmart to pick up the banner on this idea.  Some stores already have practicioners to take care for the minor ills.  Likely this will be the new clearing house for Clinics and Hospitals.

♣ a seal

The capitalist way never works for dems

You're on to something and if the dems would just leave it alone, there could be some actual good care and good profits for business coming out of these (i.e., no gov't funding necessary). The dems will surely find a way to break them though with incessant regulations. Maybe Mitt will help them write the new regs...

Speaking of dreams, mine is that Obama and Clinton fracture their party so bad at the convention that even individual super delegates are voted out. The dem party dies and the Libertarians take the second political party mantle. Hey, it could happen...

What would we call these 'clinics'?

I agree with the clinic idea. They would be great. They would be private, and they would be accesible to residential neighborhoods. They could deal with urgent situations, or just give good basic care (immunizations, physicals, etc.). We could call them, hmmm, 'Urgent Care' centers. Great idea! Let's get going on this!

</sarc>

No these would be

No these would be government funded and a "free" service. It would help keep the emegency rooms from being clogged with non emergencies. It would pay for itself in teh respect that the emegency rooms being used now for these simple visits cost at least 5 times as much as a simple clinic setting.

And teh last time I went to an Urgent Care it was over 300 bucks with insurance.  I tend to avoid them like the plague.  Obviously you have never been to one or not had to pay for it.

We spend money on government programs all the time, such as roads, police, fire just to name a few.  They benefit all the people equally.  I see no problems in this except the politicians screwing the basic idea up.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

Illegals

Why don't we just stop giving illegals health care for free? WOA! Then our emergency rooms would be empty!

Some of it that but most of

Some of it that but most of it is not illegals but legal persons who dont have the insurance to go to a practicianer.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

He was compelled to ensure

He was compelled to ensure the Mass. populous had healthcare by its legislature. He could either get on board and mold it or get rolled over by it. So I don't have a problem with him executing a plan mandated by the legislature. He was the State's executive after all.

That being said, I'm disappointed he stumped on it without distancing himself from it.

But considering his competition in the Primary, I'd rather take him with that flaw and count on the Congress to not implement national healthcare. McCain's and Huckabee's liberal flaws are legion and have far more potential for lasting damage.

→ jpm100

And he'll wear that albotross round his neck henceforth.

I'll agree with you on McCain's flaws being worse, but Huckabee didn't raise taxes any more than Romney.  Or are we playing the "those weren't taxes, they were fees" game?

Huckabee Propaganda (Taxes) Again

Please don't start with the Huckabee did not raise taxes anymore than Romney nonsense. It seems like all the economic illiterates who back the Huckster fail to understand what making the costs of a service equal to it's fee or what closing tax loopholes or reducing state aide to local governments means.

Pop tech

you are correct as to the Huck.

The truth for me is that I do not trust him.

My distrust of him began with a commercial he did with Bill Clinton.

It had to do with telling people how to live right and eat right... and

What our kids could eat or not eat.....

I do not need this X Obese Governor telling me what I need to do to be healthy unless he wants to tell us what his secret to slimness is.

Was it diet or healthy living?

NO it was SURGERY!!

And he gladly teamed up with that paragon of virtue Bill Clinton and that should tell you something.

Conservatism is NOT government mandates in any form.

He is NOT who he pretends to be. I would never vote for him.

I hate this election

→ Big deal

Conservatism is not mandates in any form.

mandate ( ) n. An authoritative command or instruction.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech.

Sorry Delsa, but that's a mandate.

But since fees are not taxes, I guess it follows that Laws are not mandates.

What can I say? You do have a point

But if i were King I'd "mandate Conservatism"

For my peeps. If you know what I mean?

Therefore, I'd mandate we have a VP who is at the very least a Republican and a Conservative at that!

→ Don't care poptech

I don't care much about Huck or Mitt, either one, as VP.

Despite pumping tons of his own money into the campaign, Romney failed miserably at any level of sincerity.  He was too busy walking on eggshells throughout his run to say anything separating himself from the pack.

It wasn't until his concession speech that he addressed anything substantive.

His claim to fame?  The darling of the Conservative movement bragged of being the first Governor to introduce Statewide (mandated) Socialized Healthcare to his state.

The Fifty Buck Abortion was a nice touch also for this "true Conservative".

More Romney Propaganda

Being honest and knowing how to research something and stating outright propaganda because you do not like someone are two different things. All the Romney haters have nothing better than to lie about his record:

Health Care:

The Massachusetts legislature made a number of changes to Governor Romney's original Health Care proposal.

Romney Vetoed Eight Sections of the Health Care Legislation, including:

- Romney Vetoed providing dental benefits to poor residents on the Medicaid program
- Romney Vetoed providing health coverage to senior and disabled legal immigrants not eligible for federal Medicaid
- Romney Vetoed expanding MassHealth (Medicaid) coverage to low-income children
- Romney Vetoed restoring funding for public health programs
- Romney Vetoed adding a provision charging firms with 11 or more workers that do not provide "fair and reasonable" health coverage to their workers

All Eight Vetoes Were Overturned

The legislature also rejected Governor Romney's proposal to permit even higher-deductible, lower benefit health plans.

Abortion:

Join the club: Mitt Romney and pro-life conversion (National Review)

"In 1967, Gov. Ronald Reagan signed a liberal abortion law, declaring, "I'm fully sympathetic with attempts to liberalize the outdated abortion law now on the books in California." Reagan later changed his mind and expressed regret for signing a measure that saw more abortions performed in California than in any other state before Roe v. Wade. He became a committed pro-life politician and backed the first pro-life plank in the Republican platform. George W. Bush ran as a pro-choice politician in his 1978 congressional campaign, but held pro-life views when he ran for the governorship of Texas in 1994. His father too once favored abortion rights, but took a pro-life position in the 1980 presidential campaign."

$50 Abortions:

Romney never pushed for taxpayer funding for abortions. The state law he signed left decisions about what should be covered to an independent body, the Commonwealth Connector. It was that body, not Romney, that ruled that abortions would be covered.

In truth, the state had little choice but to cover abortions. The state Supreme Court had ruled in 1980 that the Massachusetts Constitution confers on Massachusetts women an even broader right to abortion than does the U.S. Constitution. It restated in a 1997 decision that the state must pay for medically necessary abortions if it pays for all other medically necessary procedures including services in connection with childbirth.

It is possible to argue that Romney might have put up a public fight to narrow the abortion coverage had he chosen to do so, or that the Commonwealth Connector decided to cover more than is "medically necessary." But it is simply false for McCain to claim that "Romney provided taxpayer funded abortions" when taxpayers had been ordered by the courts to pay for them long before Romney took office.

Please provide the document that Romney signed that says he endorsed $50 abortions. If you cannot then I would appreciate that you stop spreading the lie.

Undecided

My gut feeling is that it wouldn't be bad since my Yellow Dog Dem wife was quite willing to vote for him for President, but it still probably makes more sense to have someone like Duncan Hunter on the ticket to bring the conservatives (grudgingly) back into the fold.

Definitely Needs a Conservative

I agree.  He has to do something to bring Conservative Christians back under the tent.  McCain is too much of a RINO and needs a conservative.

→ Romney

This ain't gonna be popular, but McCain doesn't need anything more to blunt his case against Obama.

Romney never gave a good explanation as to why he continued in a religion that discriminated openly against African Americans up until the time he was 31 years old.

This is no small matter in light of Obama's racist religion.

♣ a seal

Who cares?

Who cares if Romney didn't explain his religions past stance on race. He didn't make the decisions. Also, 90+ percent of blacks vote Democrat anyway. Do you really think ANY answer will bring them to vote Republican? Especially if a black is the democratic choice? Don't you remember OJ?

I disagree with you and think it is a very small matter in light of Osamas racist religion.

→ You miss the point Jeff

My post has nothing to do with attracting the Black vote.

If Romney is the candidate, Rev. Wright becomes a non-issue.

You can choose to ignore the hypocrisy in citing Wright but expecting the left to leave the Romney question alone, but you do so to the detriment of the ticket.

Cool Arrow

Wright is a very different case. He stood up at the pulpit and with word and visuals, in front of parents and children (unless his sermons were adult only) and said, "Clinton did her dirty" speaking about Monica and then demonstrated his words.

He is a dirty, racist man and should not have the title of Reverend! In front of children???????

Romney is Mormon. Where is the similarity?

If this is to what you refer?

And by the way, screw the MSM!

→ Delsa

I refer specifically to the years that Mitt's tithe went to a racist organization.  LDS has changed since then, but the question remains.

I brought this up during his campaign, and was often rebuffed for it.

I see no difference between supporting the pre-1978 LDS Church and Rev. Wright's church.

Lefties have every right to draw the parallel between Romney's inaction and Obama's inaction.

I like Mitt, but he would be a drag on the ticket.

♣ a seal

Did LDS Preach racism??

NO!

I grew up in Patomac MD. I am not a racist. We belonged to Bethesda and Congressional Country Clubs...NO Jews. I don't remember blacks or african americans.

Were either group hated or preached against? Could they play golf or tennis or swim? YES

My father played golf at Indian Springs...No gentiles! Did we hate eachother or preach hate NO.

My gather played golf at Burning Tree...NO women!

One of my closest friends was Barbara Rose. Black and Robin Stavinski a Jew. We did not give our respective color or religion, a single thought.

Give me a break. Is there a PERFECT candidate NO! Could we have a MORE PERFECT candidate YES!  ???

I can't stand this crap!

→ Delsa

I'm assuming you are unaware of the history that produced the "no African American priests" rule.

You can read up on it when you choose.

All I'm saying is that a free pass for Mitt is a free pass for Obama.  Both stayed in a racist organization well into their adult years.

If it's infuriating to you, perhaps It has everything to do with the parallel.

♣ a seal

Cool Arrow

I think you are comparing apples and oranges.

My brother and I had great friends who were with LDS and they were as far away from being racist as you can get. One grew up to be a United States Senator.

Famous LDS last name of Smith.

I grew up Catholic and NEVER saw a BLACK priest.

NEVER!

For that matter, I never saw a BLACK nun either. No blacks in the pew on Sunday either.

Were we racists? NO

When I went to church with my friend Barbara and Pandora, I was the ONLY White person there. Were they racists? NO

AND I can guarantee you, the preacher was not yelling "GOD DAMN AMERICA" either!!!

→ Relevance? Delsa

But Black priests did exist.  There was no Roman Catholic doctrine against it.

There was, however such a doctrine within LDS.  It was a racist teaching.  Mitt Romney agrees it was a racist teaching.

Your never having seen an African American priest is therefore inconsequential to the debate.

♣ a seal

Question

Is Mitt Romney a racist?

Blacks were not allowed in their church. Was hate preached form the pulpits of LDS? I bet not.

People in this country are free to associate with whom they please That is a good thing. The church changed it's policy or perspective and that is a good thing.

I simply do not equate Romney with Obama. The situations are not alike.

Personally, I think you have a green view of LDS.

I could be wrong?

And Catholic churches had black priests IF they were in black areas.

My friends with LDS did their missions in African nations helping the poor etc.

I just can only agree to disagree with you on this one.

xxooxxoo

→ Delsa

Can you honestly say the argument I've put forth could not possibly blunt an attack by the McCain group against Obama/Wright?

My objection to putting Mitt on the ticket is that it too closely mirrors Obama's connection to TUCC.

Both Obama and Mitt made decisions during their adult lives that connect them to racism.

♣ a seal

Cool, I'm with the others

I say "NUTS" to the MSM and liberals! You should know by now that they are not rational and cannot be swayed by reason or simple logic. They wouldn't vote for anyone with morals or conservative convictions no matter what. Where have you been?

Maybe you just have a thing for Mormons. You seem to know a lot about their history. Show me any religion...anywhere...that doesn't have something unpleasant from their past. I don't look at Romney as a Mormon...but a good, intelligent man who isn't a lifelong, leaching politician!

I hope he has better sense than to saddle up with a democrat like McPain!

Jeff Lebowski

→ Lebowski

That is a weak argument.

I refer to choices Mitt made during his adult life that pertain to racist teachings extant within his church.

You can refuse to see the parallel if you wish, but it disqualifies you from condemning Obama's relationship to Rev. Wright.

♣ a seal

Hardly

What I am saying is I don't care about what his church teaches. I won't vote for or not vote for a candidate because of their religion..unless they advocate cutting peoples throats if they don't believe the same.

Like I said earlier, each religion has skeletons in the closet. You could say that a Catholic couldn't criticize NOW because they don't allow women priests. Who cares? Like I said earlier, you can't argue with liberals.

It seems as if you are the only one caught up on this Mormon thing. Are you sure a Mormon didn't beat you up and steal your girlfriend?? lol

Artfully dodged Lebowski

But unless you've been living under a rock, Catholics do criticize NOW and vice versa.  Both sides feel justified in their views.

My claim is that adding Romney to the ticket directly donates legitimacy to a leftist comeback to criticism of Obama/Wright.

There is already, waiting in the wings McCain's statement "I'll always hate the gooks".

As I've said, you can deny the parallel.  And you can be hypocritical to your heart's content about that parallel.

And I can have my opinion also.  Bottom line?  Romney will not be picked as a running mate.

Then years later met with the President of Kikkoman because he a message from the man who wanted to appoligze for fishing dad out of the water and sending him off to the camps.

We had Soy sauce coming out of our ears for years. I still think he died not trusting the Japanese. Although he liked this guy they were friends from a far.

McCain and my father have a right to their statements.

I agree Romney will not be picked as his running mate.

I do not think I can vote for him. I think I'd be kicking myself to hell and back if I did.

Just not sure I trust him at all.

Illegal aliens ? A much bigger deal to me than Romney's health care deal.

Oops

Oops

→ You're right of course Delsa

But IMHO, even the knowledge that McCain suffered 5 yrs of torture at the hands of the Vietnamese will not dissuade the left from using his statement against him.

I cannot begin to understand McCain's innermost feelings concerning those years.  I will not insult his experience by trying to do so.

♣ a seal

Just so you know

I think the left will come at all our candidates with all sorts of stuff.

I don't think the voters will hold those words aginst him. Part of the voters are so young they would not even understand. Although, being educated in our schools they may think his words are slander.

I think the left will have some difficulty slamming McCain on most things except Iraq.

He is so close to their positions on social issues.

I hate this election.

The McCain group

Is not built to attack. McCain will go along to get along. He will not allow attacks on Obama. I am not even sure he will go after Obama's left wing ideas?

McCain is not all that different from Obama and Clinton extecp for the military.

Romney was raised in a church that taught him how to treat his family and others. He grew up a fine upstanding man.

Obama, to my knowledge was not raised in any church and he is married to a woman who has never been proud of the country she lives in until now?

They are not alike. If you will excuse me, they are as different as night and day or if you will, black and white.

Romney weak on Civil Rights? Is that a joke?

Romney's father was pushing for civil rights at the 1964 Republican Convention long before it was trendy = game over to your irrational hatred of the Mormon Church.

Hmmmm

We must look for someone who can stand on their own. I don't believe we should pick someone just because it will mute the "race" card, bad idea. If McCain wins, he will probably serve only one term, his VP should be someone strong who can pick up the torch and carry on. Both Condi and Mitt are good candidates but we must here from the list of possibles before we pick.

Exactly

We must look for someone who can stand on their own.

Thomas Sowell addressed this on townhall.com on April 10:

The truth is something that can attract people's attention, if only for its novelty in politics. There is no need for Republicans to try to pose as saviors of blacks. Democrats do that and they have more experience doing it.

A sober presentation of the facts-- "straight talk," if you will-- gives Senator McCain and Republicans their best shot at a larger share of the votes of blacks. There is plenty to talk straight about, including all the things that the Democrats are committed to that work to the disadvantage of blacks, beginning with Democrats' adamant support of teachers' unions in their opposition to parental choice through vouchers.

The dims are waaayyyyy better at being condescending to Blacks. (Swine reference: the pig likes it). We need to approach them the same way we approach most things - with facts, logic, and consideration of consequences.

Since McCain's weakness (to

Since McCain's weakness (to this Shrubber, at least) is the economy, it might behoove him to select someone who is strong in that field, like a governor. A southern governor is a must.

I do not think Mitt is the guy for the job, but I do not know who would meet this Shrubber's two requirements...

That is true. It might appease many of the southern religious types, but it might alienate many crossover voters who might be pro-choice, etc.... I can see his name being in contention.

Veep candidate must appeal to the base

When the presidential candidate has very limited appeal to the base, a VP candidate that does appeal to the base would be essential.  A ticket that mainly draws from outside the core of the party would have a very hard time.

Huckabee might be a pretty decent choice.

Prob. FL Gov. Charlie Crist fits that criteria

Southern? Sure.

Anything even vaguely-resembling fiscally-conservative? Guess again with Charlie. Florida's next hurricane will probably bankrupt the state due to his insurance socialism. NOT acceptable in this "hold your nose sweepstakes." We need someone who can at least pretend to care about cutting spending for once.

'No Mitt' campaign targets VP slot

...from WND:

http://www.worldnetd...

"We are conservatives who believe strongly in the sanctity of human life and of marriage and we recognize that the issues at stake in this upcoming election are serious and profound. Indeed, we believe the very future of America's security, against threats both foreign and domestic, will be determined by whom America elects as president in November," the ad says. "Because we have invested our lives in securing a prosperous America that honors life and liberty, we must state our grave concerns regarding your pending choice of a running mate.

"The unvarnished facts of Mitt Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts make him utterly unacceptable as a vice presidential running mate,"

"A very large (and growing) number of social conservative voters who have become aware of that record are likely to abandon a GOP presidential ticket on which Romney's name appears."

The future has a way of arriving unannounced. - George Will

Prior to his dropping out

Prior to his dropping out of the race, I voted for him in the primary. I'd still vote for him, even as VP.

Fascism is a religious conception in which man is seen in his imminent relationship with a superior law and with an objective will that transcends the particular individual - Mussolini

I don't wish to be morbid, but given McCain's age and significant run-ins with cancer, his choice of VP could be of great importance.  To be blunt, he probably doesn't have 8 years left to live, and if he would choose a real conservative (Fred Thompson would be my choice), then I would feel a lot better about voting for him.

I'm Voting VP

I agree. The stress that is put on the POTUS is huge. I want a "just in case" VP.

Mitt would guarantee 16 years, at least...

McCain/Romney: 8 years

Romney/Rice: 8 years

I'm just saying...

-gordy.

Rice is awful

Rice is awful.  Her Pro-Palestinian-Terrorist, State-Department-Restraining-Our-Counter-Iranism, and Appeasing-Kim-of-NORK-osity has destroyed all of Bush's first term gains.

The Veep Choice Is Irrelevent

I don't think the VP choice is going to matter much. Conservatives may long for a conservative choice, but the fact is absent the unlikely event of McCain's death, teh veep will have little or no influence on policy. Cheney is more conservative than Bush, but his influence on policy is negligible. And Bush isn’t even a tenth the megalomaniac McVain is.

The only reason to vote for McVain is that he's not Barack Obama. He's still going to be not Barack Obama no matter who he picks.

Mitt is the ONLY idea

I have been thinking this over for a long time and I believe if McCain does not put Romney on the ticket, I will not be able to vote for him.

There is nothing he says when attempting to sound conservative that makes me believe him.

The war and security, fine but on social issues I simply do not trust a thing he says.

I am affraid political expediency is the name of his game.

Do you even KNOW who George

Do you even KNOW who George Allen is?  Mitt a Conservative?  Not hardly.  Allen?  Damn straight!

George Allen

I like it.

Maccaca...monkey.

I'd love to see the whole thing stuffed back in its rabbit hole, where it belongs.

Excellent choice.  One which I'd not considered.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

VP for McCain

See if you like this guy.

Attack Dog

McCain is going to need a very effective attack dog as his running mate. I cannot think of anyone better than Romney. He is smart,  articulate and has solid economic credentials. And he does it without raising his voice and with a smile on his face.

Allen, Thompson, Hunter,

Allen, Thompson, Hunter, then I went to my last straw...Romney.

He had better pick a conservative for this Nations sake as far as I am concerned.

"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Churchill

So Shrub

You are looking for Charlie Crist?

He is my governor and I liked him up until the time he got involved prior to the primary here and went for McCain.

After our primary was over fine but he contaminated our election here and I did not like it one bit.

Delsa...bad news for our RINO Guv

Charlie's not nearly as wonderful as he thinks we think he is, now.....hmmm.

David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive

I do not know much about

I do not know much about Crist, to be honest. On the surface, I guess he might be a potential choice since Fla is a huge state for electoral votes. Anyone else on your guys' minds?

Blonde,

Leave it to you to hit the nail on the head.

I like George Allen. He is a fine conservative but he let himself be pushed around by the politiclly correct crowd. I would vote for him with McCain.

Then I would cross my fingers, make a wish, and blow out all the candles...

I must be in a pissy mood and i just sold a house too.

He's even worse than your link says, Blonde

Try mine. Insurance shouldn't be socialism, except in FL, apparently. Want to guarantee an easy "hold my nose & vote for Obama" choice for disgusted with both sides voters like me? Ok. Be stupid enough to support this big-spendin' RINO for ANY higher office, especially VP. Charlie's simply not fiscally qualified as a Republican. He's already managed to make our next hurricane bankrupt the state while talking about being "a conservative," and I don't want him anywhere NEAR the US Treasury. Things are bad enough already.
JMR

The tax & spend drug war looks racist in the real world.

Probem with Charlie is

In an effort to help with insurance costs... Whoops

that was the mistake. Government telling insurance companies what they have to cover and mandating it not cost more than X, is what has killed the insurance industry in our state.

My insurance company is no longer covering our home in Tampa. And no other company will either SO, I have to pay for the FLA Government insurance. Holy crap.

If I had been allowed to negotiate the things I wanted and the price I wanted to pay, my company would still be here covering both our homes.

Government needs to stay out of these issues. Charlie does not get it and I do not want him near the White House either!

Speaking of VP's..I have to

Speaking of VP's..I have to run pretty quick....I just wondered if anybody has given thought to the fact that Obama may have Powell in mind as his running mate?

If not, he is going to be something mighty important, pick your position as there are a lot, what with all the great interviews Powell is giving for Obama in a not so subtle way, there is something in the works.

..by the way, I would love it if McCain picked Heather Wilson (NM) with her 25 years of military service and a real conservative...although I think she is running for the Senate this year, I hope to heck she wins since NM is a split state anymore.
