May 25, 2008 - 12:30 ET by SchnikeysI said neither. They're both socialists, and that will hurt both of them in my eyes.
I will add, though, that the concept of racism will likely be used by the 'crats to their advantage. They're no telling if it will work until Election Day.

I also said neither,
May 25, 2008 - 13:23 ET by general companyI also said neither, because I don't think the media could incite any more of it as they already have. The haters already hate, and the rest of us don't even think about it, unless prodded by the MSM. At least I don't think about it, but then I am an equal opportunity antagonist

May 25, 2008 - 13:26 ET by sentforth5you took the words right offa my fingers! I was almost verbatim going to say the same thing.except I was gonna say they are both commies.
The libs will hang everything on race with osa...obama! He will lose to the son-of-cain, however, and I'm no longer sure who's worse.

May 25, 2008 - 13:31 ET by Indiana JoeThis is too convoluted for a holiday weekend, lol.
But I said 3 and 4. If Obama's the nominee, racism will help him, since he has a lock on 90+% of the black vote. BUT if by some chance Hillary gets it, I think sexism would tend to help McCain.
Your questionaire implies
May 25, 2008 - 13:40 ET by jdhawkYour questionaire implies that you have written off billary. Presently, she is ahead in the popular vote and the delegate vote if you count Michigan and Florida. If you don't count the above two states as wins then you are no better than the disenfranchising dimocratic party. The defeatocrats didn't get away with disenfranchising voters in Florida in 2000 and they better not get away with it this time in 2008. And, yes, both sexism and racism have already had an impact in the elections. The part that they have played has been suppressed by the drive by media in that it is the dimocrats that are the perpetrators.
"...it is the dimocrats

Exactly, jd. I made the same point on the Mo Dowd thread.
get over it - Hellary agreed to not count FL & MI
May 26, 2008 - 06:46 ET by SouthJersey1953Last fall, Hellary agreed to not counting Florida and Michigan because they violated their party's rules. It was not until she started trailing that she wanted to include them.....
The rules going in to the Primaries should be the rules throughout...
I picked the third
May 25, 2008 - 14:14 ET by bigtimerI picked the third choice...it's worked so far by the msm and dem party...disgusting as it has been so far...and if Hill doesn't make it as the nominee the msm and party leftists will continue to play the race card with the Obama team leading the way behind the scenes...even when there is nothing left to play, they will invent something out of nothing...it's their scummy job, it's what they do.

Hi BT - I picked 3 & 5 because Obama will choose a woman
May 25, 2008 - 14:31 ET by Dee Bunkfor VP probably and then anyone who doesn't vote for them will be racist and sexist and all the racism and sexism in the dem party will be forgotten.
Even if he doesn't choose a woman V.P. the sexism thing will be used with Michelle.

2 and 3
May 25, 2008 - 14:28 ET by maggieqpublicRacism will be to the advantage of both candidates to some extent…. a) some voters will not vote for Obama, solely because he is a black man; b) some voters will vote for Obama, solely because he is a black man.
Sexism… I think the angry feminists will ‘hold their noses’ and vote for Obama... so no change in feminist voting pattern.
Hope you ask how age and class might affect the election.
False accusations of...
May 25, 2008 - 14:49 ET by Republican_by_DefaultIt's not racism or sexism that will help Obama or McCain, it's the race card and the sexist card that will dominate the media. The shear volume of baseless accusations will have an impact.
Unless voters get tired of hearing that everything McCain says is racist or sexist, which I believe they will, Obama will benefit.
Two and Three
May 25, 2008 - 16:52 ET by viluzionIf two and three had been an option I would have voted. There are obviously racists who would oppose either McCain or Obama and will vote (or fail to do so) for that reason. I don't know how much of an impact that will have, but it is an undeniable fact. Since they are both the same sex as far as I know, and I don't have any reason to believe otherwise, sexists will likely have little impact.

May 26, 2008 - 00:31 ET by Noel SheppardV,
The concept of sexism in this campaign once Hillary is out of it might be a tad nuanced. Here's how I see it.
If the supposed sexism and misogyny female Clinton supporters perceive continues to be reported once Obama is coronated, these women might either sit out the election, or vote for McCain. This will clearly help him. Let's understand that the opposite of misogyny is misandry. Media don't care to talk about it, but it's the hatred of men by women. It is quite conceivable that this emotion will be quite stoked when Obama is crowned, and that could help McCain.
On the flipside, as Toobin told Moyers on Friday night, to try to prevent this from happening, Obama is likely to bring abortion into this race, and threaten these women that if they don't vote for him, McCain will appoint conservative judges that will overturn Roe. This kind of "sexism" will clearly help Obama. ns
I'm a binary kind of guy.
May 26, 2008 - 11:08 ET by viluzionI don't do nuance well. Shades of gray mostly escape me. If not for the nature of the subject here I would use different terminology to describe my worldview, but I'm sure you get my drift. On the other hand, I do seem to have nuanced that statement rather well. Maybe I'm starting to learn.
I think racism will help
May 25, 2008 - 17:21 ET by ckc1227I think racism will help McCain, not because whites are racist, but because they will get tired of having racism shoved down their throats and told they are racists for the next 5 months. Even some dems will get tired of being called racist eventually.
I also picked sexism, but I'm rethinking that. I mean, Bill Clinton was about as demeaning to women as a man can be, and the feminists loved him, so I can't really see them not backing Obama.

Metro man
May 25, 2008 - 18:37 ET by PewahI voted for both 3 and 5 because Obama comes across as such a metrosexual that I have to believe that some how he's going to score points with perceived sexism on the part of McCain (because he's too much of a traditional male).

May 26, 2008 - 07:38 ET by CrashSome people in the DNC hate Hillary enough to vote for Obama. This is why he's doing best in the most liberal states; that and liberals love to hear & live fairy tales. However, come the general election, when the more moderate voter block shows up, Obama an ultra-liberal black man doesn't stand a chance.
Ism's for everyone
May 26, 2008 - 08:19 ET by pilsenerI watched a panel of women on Reliable Sources yesterday spend 20 minutes decrying "sexists against Hillary". None of them even considered the idea that instead of sexism, it was virulent "clintonism" or rabid "hillaryism" that doomed her ladyship.
90% of blacks voting for Obama is not racism, but 20% of whites voting against him is? I'm still looking for the math book that the media uses for "ism" math.
It's "ageist" to question Obama's youth and inexperience, but not McCain's age and experience. Are you a "Navyist" if you believe that McCain's military experience is a positive, and Obama's lack of service a negative. Taxism, earmarkism, lobbyism, Chicagoism, resumeism, let's trot them all out. The media is pathologically incapable of discussing actual governing issues, but love those "isms".
Have we come to the "ism-azation" of America.
Idealist to Bigot Ratio
May 26, 2008 - 09:13 ET by CrashI think the questions regarding Obama are: Are there enough daydreaming idealists to get him elected? Are there enough bigots within the Hillary camp to turn the tide?

May 26, 2008 - 14:27 ET by lnthompI don't think racism or sexism will have any substantial impact at the polls, but no matter who wins the Dem nomination or the Presidency, all the "news" media will find important is racism and sexism.

How long will Obama (if elected) get to do all the change he is calling for. 100 days 2 years, first term, or all 8 years. And when he does not go fast enough when will he be sent under the bus. Also when does the next president have to take blame and stop BDS.

May 26, 2008 - 15:20 ET by lnthompI foresee BDS keeping the lib/soc/commies attention for at least another 10 years after GWB is out of office. Every comment by any Republican potential candidate will be compared to GWB's "failed" policies. But that's OK, we still compare the idiocy coming from OHB to Carter's failed policies. At least I do.

May 26, 2008 - 21:23 ET by Clear thinkerYou have got to be kidding me...
I cannot fathom how 386 people chose #1 claiming that sexism and racism will not be a factor in November. Where do these people come from, and what rock do they live under?
Number two and number four will be the boost that gives McCain the win in November, and people thinking otherwise are not willing to look reality in the eye.
I'm absolutely amazed that so many people chose #1, so to satisfy my curiosity, would someone please explain the reasoning? Please?
