I voted well

Which is as good as can be expected.  John McCain is not known as a great speech maker.  Fair 'nuff....after Sarah Palin, anything short of a nuclear explosion would have been a letdown.

Having said that, though, I listened to both McCain's and Joe Lieberman's speech a second time. Upon the second listening, both speeches were much better than I first thought.  Both men were speaking the truth, expressed their view of the world, and I was struck by the sincerity and utter lack of guile.

I'm glad John McCain has such a good friend.  Although I disagree with much of Lieberman's views, he is the genuine article.  I hope his loyalty to John McCain doesn't hurt him in the long run.

LOL...well obviously I'm in

LOL...well obviously I'm in the minority so far when it comes ti McCain sometimes...but as far as I was concerned he was really bad...

I fell asleep before he got to the end...in fact the majority of yesterdays convention program was really bad, with the exception of the great video work...

It isn't like I expected any rip-roar of a speech from McCain, but I didn't expect it to put me to sleep either...may have just been too tired from so much politics during the last two weeks...

Uh...no..if it would of been a good speech...I would of stayed awake.

Heck, I'm only voting for the ticket because of Palin now anyway.

I also didn't appreciate him saying he belonged to no party or some such, should of jotted it down, but nevertheless, he should of joined the dem party long ago anyway as far as I am concerned...heck he almost did.

I have always thanked him for his service, I know he will protect this country, but I am getting rather sick of hearing how he and he alone saved the war in Iraq with his surge...I am also getting sick of not hearing any gratitude for the back-bone that President Bush has had to not back down, with all those that have worked against him in the past, including John McCain in the Senate with different bills...

I am not all of the sudden going to fall in love with John McCain...heck I never will..

By the way, although I did make it through most of the speech, did he ever mention illegal immigration...does anyone know?

Thanks Mica... Now I

Thanks Mica...

Now I don't feel so alone.

Illegal immigration is a huge issue with me, I kept waiting and waiting and waiting...even Code Pink was the only excitement I had, those idiot twits...guess they're good for something, making arses out of themselves on national television, woke me up some...lol

I did not watch him as I

I did not watch him as I dont watch many speeches as tehy are usually boring.  My wife says there is something she doesnt like about McCain and that he looked awkward.  She said something about his character or patriotism or something and I went into a diatribe about his service and POW record.  She changed a bit but still said she did not like him.  She will be voting for him because of Palin, she surprised me by saying she was thinking of not voting this year.

Hey Begrunt... Thanks so

Hey Begrunt... Thanks so much...that's what I feared...I am so sick of this being a non-issue, and I feel it will stay that with the debates too, because the talking heads asking the questions also want the hispanic vote for Barack too...

Makes me sick...it is a huge issue tot he majority of american people and the msm of all stripes ignore this issue, even in their polling lately.

Hi BT. Now let me give you

Hi BT. Now let me give you the best reason there is to vote for McCain...Sarah Palin. If you elect Mac, when he is out Sarah will be a shoe in...

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

don't feel bad bt

I rated it "okay" because at least he said he'd cut taxes and win in Iraq, but like you I still have no enthusiasm for him as a person. I still remember the smirk on his face when he lied about Mitt Romney and the debate where he said he wished interest rates were zero.

If he'd chosen anyone but Palin, we'd just be counting the days until Obama's coronation.

Hi bass and

Hi bass and candance....

I agree with both of your posts.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

BT, candance: In all

BT, candance:

In all honesty, I have a problem with parts of Mac's speech. He left out any mention of the border. While I know that the economy is doing ok, I dont agree with the retraining of folks in states, with democrat governers, mayors and the such, who have raised taxes to the point that there are no jobs left in the state. That is something the states should take care of. I liked his take on education tho. He will appoint good judges, I think. He did mention legislation from the bench. Some have said he talked to much about his past. I disagree. What he said on public stage needed to be said. A lot of people out there need to know who he is. And like it or not, his past experiences, as yours and mine, have made us what we are today. He constrasted well with Obama's life experiences, or lack there of. Mac is a man, Obama is still in training.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

He was ok

He spoke like a senator, and I too was bored through most of it.  It wasn't necessarily a bad speech, but it was a downer coming from Palin's speech.

Btw, did anyone catch it when he said the migrant workers were Americans?

"We believe everyone has something to contribute and deserves the
opportunity to reach their God-given potential from the boy whose
descendents arrived on the Mayflower to the Latina daughter of migrant
workers
. We're all God's children, and we're all Americans."

Technically he said "daughter of", still made me go hmmmm.

For now he has my vote, because of Palin, but I still reserve judgment.  If Obama wasn't so freakin scary, Glenn Beck mentioned how he has ( what I call Hitler's youth program ) 'Public Allies'...and wants to fund it as much as we fund the military...yuck!

Big timer

I rated his speach OK.  I stayed up, and it got a lot better towards the end, but the beginning with all of the "life stinks, I know, I feel for you all" crud I was about ready to toss something at the TV.  In the beginning he kept bringing up how the world (economy and environment) are going down the toilet and we need to do something to fix that.  On some level I agree with him, if we do not use our naturaly resources to the fullest we will be speaking Russian in 10-20 years.  We are killing our buying power with the fuel prices and our dependence on other nations for our survival.  But, he did choose someone who feels the way I do as his running mate, too bad he bought into the Gore cult of doom for the planet, though.  The audience was not responding to his doom speach and so he changed the direction of his speach, I am guessing he did that intentionally and it was not planned to go that route.  I also hated Leiberman's speach.  It made me so mad.  Frankly, I do not want a president who will reach across the isle to Nancy Pelosi and who thinks she is an amazing person and means it in a good way.

I turned to my hasband, Brad, and said, "If McCain just shuts up, we will be OK.  Just let Palin speak."

All I can say is...

Thank goodness for Sarah Palin. That speech tonight was awful as all he did was stay in the past. Its strange that our ticket relies on the VP pick and not the top of it. I lost alot of confidence in Mcain tonight (not that I had much in him to begin with) but the pick if Palin is a very inspiring one. I do worry that more dirty laundry will be aired out in the media though that could hurt her in some way.

Try to steal Obama's "change" line was just stupid, nobody will go for that.

We got lucky that the Gov. was as clutch as she was, otherwise this could have been a disaster.

IAR... I am worried about

IAR...

I am worried about that too...her ethics investigation thing going on in Alaska, like I have mentioned here and there for a few months is the only real problem I see down the road with the msm going rabid if it turns out bad for her, I heard today they are scaling it to be concluded before the end of Oct. now...as they should in my opinion, but I also heard that some people who were going to testify have now declined and they will have to be subpoenaed...

Time will tell...

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

It could be a problem if the

It could be a problem if the media does not post the truth, but the truth is...her ex brother in law was stalking the governor of Alaska (per her own security detail), he threatened to kill the governor's father and his boss only gave this cop a 5 day suspension and he continued his craziness after that suspension.  The cop should have been fired and brought up on charges so she fired his boss for mishandling the situation.  The guy was an idiot.  Who would let a cop that was stalking the governor and threatened the life of the governor's father keep their badge????  After the suspension, the cop also refused to return his children to their mother per the custody order...kidnapping????  And he kept his job.  The cop also tased his own children...And he kept his job.

amber... I just caught

amber...

I just caught this...do not for one second think I am sticking up for the POS cop, ex-brother-in-law of hers...I am not in any way shape or form...I think he is a despicable creature...I've pretty much kept up with the slimeball.

I think she will win this just fine...all I have been worried about is the msm and how far and deep they will drag this...knowing what slugs they are...so far I am right in regard to the breathless panting of the desperate msm.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

I agree with you.  I did

I agree with you.  I did not think you thought she did anything wrong.  It is just, if the media does not report the truth people will assume she did something wrong and that will not be good.

I said "unsure"

I didn't watch the speech. After Sarah's speech on Wednesday night, I didn't have to. SHE won my vote. It doesn't matter to me anymore what McCain says, he has my vote because of her!

I voted well......but......

it was too long and drawn out.  He could have easily cut about 15 minutes off of it.  All I have to say is thank god for Sarah.....she will keep this interesting and focused.

"If a man does his best, what else is there"?

General George S. Patton Jr.

I liked it

it was honest. McCain is a true American hero who loves this country and so does Palin.

The choice is simple.

If your prefer "God bless America" it's McCain/Palin

If you prefer "God damn America" it's Obama

I said very well.  Even my

I said very well.  Even my son who isn't into politics couldn't take his eyes off the tv during McCain's speech.  If I tried to talk he said shhhh.  He said it was excellent.

We're Doomed

I don't mean Republicans.  I mean Americans.  Neither ticket is much to get excited about.  I would never vote for Obama and I won't be voting for McCain.  This will be the first time I won't be voting for the Republican POTUS nominee.  Even Rush Limbaugh has now drunk the McCain Kool-Aid.  I am truly a man without a party.

mbs, no we are not. If this

Cool, only if Obama is in. I dont think Mac has any love of China. One thing you gotta give Mac, he sees Russia, China, Iran, Syria and the others for what they really are.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Yeah, bass

Goes without saying.

Obama couldn't stand up to a socialist preacher.  Any communist could have him for a song.

Rocky & Bullwinkle '08

mbs... Hey, I'm quite

mbs...

Hey, I'm quite sure you aren't completely alone in this country.

I do want to say I don't think Rush is all in love with McCain, he is just happy that he picked Palin to unite the party...which it has, I do not like McCain either, watched hm too many years in the Senate...but I will vote the ticket now because of Palin, not that she hasn't and doesn't have a few draw-backs for me in what all she has done politically...but then again, she is uniting the base like nothing I've ever seen.

I still feel Obama would of lost anyway...with or without Palin, but now he is toast...I do want the momentum with her to carry on and affect voters to get out and vote the ticket for congress on our side of the aisle..we damned sure need that...and this will help immensely.

I am also getting sick and tired of hearing the msm reporters-reporter-ettes demanding that Palin answer their questions....they phony, scared shiteless, hypocritical ba$tards...who they think they are is something else..they are ignoring the fact that they are HATED...their agenda is blinding them...all the better for us.

I too am worried about the things that may get passed in congress that will hurt us with McCain...but if we can get enough conservatives in...we may be able to stop some of this.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

To Be Fair

One of the reasons I have courage enough to not vote for McCain is I live in a state where Obama is guaranteed to win.  If I lived in a battleground state it would be a harder decision.

Expect to see Sarah most

Expect to see Sarah most frequently in them battleground states.

Hillary Clinton on suicide watch.

can... LOL... She may

LOL...

She may be on suicide watch but she is also having the last laugh on Obama and the behind the scenes powers to be that knocked her off the planet...including the msm...hehehe...enough joy to go all the way around for me...

Hillary couldn't hold a candle ot Palin in the next election...ya' gotta' love it!

Actually, candance, I'll bet Hillary is thrilled. I think she wants BO to lose. Otherwise, she has to wait until 2016 to take her next shot at the WH.

McCain wins, Hill can run in four years. Remember, we're talking about Clintons here. All for one, and that one is ME!

Palin Most Popular

Sarah Palin is more popular than Obama, Biden and McCain.

Once again, McCain is who we

Once again, McCain is who we have as a candidate. There is no "Other". He's never been a very good speech giver and he's not going to become a conservatives's dream candidate. The most important things are he's much more conservative domestically than Obama and he's a lot tougher on national security and foreign policy than Obama and that's good enough for me to vote for him over Obama. I wish Fred Thompson had joined the race a lot earlier and showed more energy in the primary debates. I also wish that all the conservative candidates hadn't split the primary vote and allowed McCain to prevail, but this is all water under the bridge. This year has been a bust for conservatives, candidate-wise, and we may as well accept that and get on with it: stop Obama.

McNotObama '08

Good points, Chris

That's really the main issue: "stop Obama." If we don't, we will definitely live to regret it.

Probably in a cardboard box... those of us who work for a living, anyway.

"... smells like... victory." - Robert Duvall

The formal setting just

The formal setting just isn't McCain's forte.

That said, the comment about being broken by the enemy was a profound admission beyond measure for me.  Imagine your self giving a speech in front of an audience that large with nothing on.  I imagine that's a mere fraction of what being broken was like.  He went in with the frat boy mentality and life's a lark to someone who gained a deep appreciation for what our country is and what it stands for.

As a retired military aviator I remember the Code of Conduct was changing between when he was shot down and when I attended survival school.  We were shifting from the John Wayne image (which was an extremely rare reality) to something more realistic due to the fact we're human with the hard-wired survival instinct.  In part it was the Geneva Convention was not being honored by the enemy and the realization of what had happened earlier in N. Korea (with Soviet assistance) and was continuing again in NVN.  If they wanted something, they were going to get it. Essentially it was hold out as long as you could and give as little as possible.

Some say the Democrats aren't patriots, I'm changing my opinion on that as there are some who may be.  It's just that it takes form in a way I'm not familiar with.  However, I would say Republicans still have the market cornered on heros.  McCain is one and worthy of our vote.  Palin is a much welcome star in her own right.

"Fighters are fun but bombers make policy"

Policy Wishing Aside . . .

Couldn't rate the speech any better than OK. It was pro-forma, exactly what I thought he would say. Precisely why he desparately needed Palin on the ticket.

You can cry all you want to about how McCain doesn't suck up to this agenda item or that item, but his real problem all along as a candidate is that the guy is basically oatmeal.

Romney, Pawlenty, et al would have added a little sugar to the mix, but Palin is exactly the sort of habanero pepper that the GOP needed to wake up their snorefest.

Sarah outshined John this

Sarah outshined John this week.  McCain didn't say anything new or quotable.  He did a good job and he'd make a great president.  The RNC and DNC's are just a formality and most people's votes aren't based on the candidate's speeches during these weeks (thank God!).  But if so, Sarah would win, hands down.  She rocked the house.  She rocked America to its core!  I want SARAH as President!!  (but I'll settle for VP for now)

He did very well because he

He did very well because he rallyed at the end. He also revealed some dramatic details of his Vietnam capture. But this speech did not top his inspiring '04 convention speech IMHO.

No way....

There is no way anyone who is not really sick could honestly rate the speach bad or really bad. To do that you are setting yourself up as 'better' than McCain and I'll wager you are not even close to the speaker, or human, he is. I never considered voting for McCain and still won't vote for 'McCain',  but due to the Media slime balls I will vote for Palen as revenge. McCain will get an incidential vote.

Old, Retired and glad of it.

In the era of Obama, why would the GOP convention...

...get the biggest TV audience in convention history unless there were a whole lot of people looking to McCain to give them a reason to vote for  him?

And more importantly, did McCain succeed in giving them that reason?
