Trust me, the McCain MSM Massacre is coming. It's already in the works. As has been pointed out, this is the MSM's chance to exact revenge for Kerry vs. the Swift Boat Vets.
The only thing that can save McCain now is if he wakes up and picks a rock-solid conservative choice for VP (Fred Thompson, anybody? They've been friends for years...) who can manage to rally the Reagan Republicans in a last surge to hold back the Clinton machine.
