I think they have a lot of influence still with likely GOP voters in that they are listened to by those w/o cable. Saturation of the airwaves and newspapers will have an effect on the mind. No RINOs in '08 - Mike Huckabee is the best choice
Until recently, I hadn't heard of any "liberal" leanings of Mike. I am looking at all the candidates. I still don't see him as a RINO (but my mind is open)....IF it will make you happy (not that I really care), I can remove that portion of my tag. I KNOW I do not agree with statements that he is the modern day Jimmah Carta, and he is no where near as far left as McCain and Rudy.....
No RINOs in '08 - Mike Huckabee is the best choice
Is Mike a social conservative, certainly. Is that what makes him not a RINO in your book?
Is Mike a fiscal conservative? No, he is a compasionate conservative who doesn't mind raising taxes and using the tax code as a means to change human behavior. Would that make him a RINO?
The republican party roots is in fiscal policy, not social policy. Social conservative isn't a Democrat or Republican ideal, its an American ideal.
btw, I could care less if you use the tagline, I was curious as to how you think. In my opinion I think Mike is more of a RINO than McCain or Rudy, because of his fiscal policy
Hmmm...maybe it's just me, but I don't see Guiliani to be as far left as others here. Anyone can govern conservatively in a conservative state and Huckabee didn't even do that. Guiliani was a fiscal conservative in a liberal state. He gets some credit for that.
But the real conservatives in the race are Thompson and Hunter. The others are all RINOs by comparison.
Something that is not mentioned often and that is that all Republicans do not fit the conservative ideal that is highlighted by the evangelicals and company. I am a dedicated Repub and have seldom voted outside my party. I feel that the Republican party has been hijacked by one party issue pushers. "If I can't agree with everything the candidate stands for, then I'll take my ballot and go home" reminds me of a bunch of losers. I am willing to overlook many disagreements for some major agreements i.e. the GWOT, fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, prayer in public places, decency for kids growing up, respect and personal responsibility, close the borders, etc. You cannot win on one issue=just not enough voters folks. Whats more important-Hillary or Osama and losing it all or one of ours and just losing on a few things? Winning is the most important thing now for us-WINNING!
Mike Huckabee is a pro-life liberal. Every other position he has is shared by the democratic counterparts. A vote for Mike is a vote for the biggest RINO in the race. Let's review all the issues where Mike is liberal: economy & taxes, healthcare, illegal immigration, GWOT, foreign policy, crime, bigger government with socialist wealth redistribution ideas. Did I miss any? No thanks on the biggest RINO (Republican In Name Only) candidate....Mike Huckabee.
Huckabee is a pro-life Democrat and, if elected, will be Jimmy Carter Jr.
I've said it before and I'll probably say it again: I'm usually first in line to vote for an outspoken Christian, but if Huckabee is the best we can do, then Jesus take me now.
I have to get up early and fill young, impressionable minds with leftwing propaganda. Wish me luck! -Professor TP&C
Yea it's appearing so. He does talk alot about the FairTax, which I really like, BUT a President doesn't levy taxes and his talk is unfortunately empty. All he can do is sign a bill sent to him by Congress, and the numbers of Congressional backers of the FairTax aren't enough to make a dent yet.
The MSM want Rudy vs. Hillary. I have no idea why (other than Clinton of course), but that is how all the media paints it. Hell, even Fox will defend Rudy to no end for every scandal that comes out. Looking at all of the most likely candiates and I would say that we are all screwed. I do not trust anyone of them and the ones who are truely honest get booed for saying some hard truths. Too bad really.
The media keep up their digs at the GOP candidates and Republicans in general, while simulataneously getting in their gushes at the Dim candidates, to keep influencing the voters towards the Dims. But they'll wait to really hammer the GOP candidate until it's him vs. the Dim in the general election.
I also think if the front runners were conservatives like Hunter, Tancredo, and Keyes that the media would be in more of a panic and would be more intense now at trying to give negative coverage so as to help prevent that candidate from winning the primary (and to make sure the public is negatively influenced about that candidate so that if he should win the GOP primary, the public will be pre-programmed for the Dragon Lady or whatever Dim instead).
So the msm have a lot of influence on this. After all, their job is not to report the news but to promote Democrats and liberalism.
A liberal persuaded against his will is of the same opinion still.
The MSM has to walk a fine line here. They do not want to pay too much attention to the Republican nomination process. If they did, they would have to discuss the differences between the conservative and liberal Republican candidates. They would have to actually talk about conservative values, what they mean, and to what degree each candidate is conservative. They would be educating the public on conservatism. OH THE HORROR!!!!
On the other hand, they have to try and pick a candidate that anyone who comes out with the Democratic nod can beat. If they make it obvious who they want to win, it will send up a red flag to the conservative masses that this individual should be avoided at all costs. The MSM is beginning to understand that no consertative and that most Republicans DO NOT trust them. They are beginning to understand that any influence they try to exert here will backfire.
The trap here for the MSM is obvious and will be tough for them to avoid.
See both Daily Paul thread posted above with many others saying the same thing and my recent edit. But good try!!!

Many think that a close race for the GOP nomination will help the Dems win, but I think the opposite is true. As it was stated earlier in the thread, the media will be forced to cover the story continually if the race stays close.
I think it will the closest race in the history of the GOP because you have two candidates competing for the social conservatives, two other candidates competing for strong foreign policy, one Reagan conservative, and views across the board about border security and rights for illegals.
I was a Rudy guy at first but I've moved back into the "undecided" category until I get more information about Thompson and maybe even Hunter. These were the guys that got my attention at the most recent CNN bash the GOP with meaningless liberal questions...errr....debate.
Yes, the media will practically pick the canidate. Otherwise we would be hearing equally from Tancredo and Hunter as the "front runner" Republicans.
The Same could be said for the Democratic canidates as well. The media picks which ones to highlight and which ones to only give occasional lip service to. Senators Clinton and Obama get tons of free press- way more than the other Democratic Canidates.
The media always have some influence. Not all Republicans are out there seaching the internet and reading alternative media. Many watch the Alphabet Networks and believe they're telling the truth, so the ability of the MSM to influence choices should be obvious.
The only reason I say some is that everyone, Democrat or Republican, Conservative or Liberal, has grown a little skeptical of the MSM. They've proven they can't be trusted all the time. The question is, when can't you trust them? Since no one knows for sure, their influence will only be some.
Democrats: Specializing in "high tech lynching" since 1987.
Though the MSM puts A LOT of effort into swaying the electorate, their result is some effect. Kudos to the new media who help shine the light on the idiotic "drive by" reporting.
The mainstream media has HUGE influence. Fortunately, other media avenues are here now to offset at least some of it, but the "in your face" TV media is rather influential, by the nature of their medium.
It's not quite as apparent how they "pick" the candidate on the Republican side, but I think that might be because the MSM generally doesn't want anyone on that side to win so they really don't push for anyone, except those who are more liberal leaning of the bunch. And unfortunately, that aspect of even the Republican candidates is growing. I personally would have liked to see Newt Gingrich run, but you know the media would have gone into his closet on day one and never let it die. His conservatism, in my view, is greater than any in the current group, and that's unfortunate.
On the Democrat side, well it's almost orgasmic for the media. From the beginning, why was Barrack Obama so highy touted and talked about? I'm talking about when the candidates first were announcing, well before people really could get any issue-related info on anyone (other than Hillary whose name has been in the spotlight for years). It was because the media saw something that could be great for Democrats, and they love those Democrat superheros of theirs. The "tier 1," "tier 2" etc BS is nothing but media concoction. Biden has 20+ years in the Senate. Dodd has more than that. Richardson was governor, Congressman, and Ambassador. How's that for "experience?" But how much did you hear their names as things got started? Pretty much here and there, just like now. Why? Media runs the show on who gets noticed and the little snowball is formed and sent rolling down the hill from that point forward.
Look at how often Hillary, Obama, and Edwards are talked about. I don't need data printed out for me, it's apparent that they talk about them a ton more than Republican candidates. I'm speaking about "positive stories" that is. And it's lopsided enough that it's very easy to notice. I watch alot of news and flip around to different shows and it's easy to see.
The media, acting as it does today, framing the news, framing what they want us to hear, is a sad thing. Objectivity should be their calling, but that went away a long time ago.
1. Media calls Florida for Gore before polls close in panhandle - depressing Republican vote.
2. Gore's team goes for the steal and calls for recounts only in large Democrat counties - burning up constitutionally allowed time for contesting elections in Florida.
3. Not getting the hanging chads they expected in Dem territory, Gore's team calls for statewide recount - but not enough time left.
4. Gore's team goes to the courts in a futile move that only delays the normal transition of government - giving the Bush team a 2 month handicap in getting up and running protecting the country from terrorists, etc.
5. Liberal media does detailed assessment of Florida statewide counts and shows that Bush would have won that count also.
6. Libs resort to playing spoil sport sore losers by jumping on the "popular" vote vs. electoral college whine. (The hell with the constitution when its not convenient, right? Small states will NEVER give up their electoral college advantage. Why should they?)
7. Gore goes into the desert to eat locust and honey (and lots of french fries), comes back breathing fire and claiming he is the real president and Bush is a betrayer (so much for losing with dignity).
8. Dems follow suit and refuse to admit defeat allowing their hate to fester into full blown Bush derangement syndrome.
Nice reply, but don't expect an answer from Hannah. She blows in and out of threads like a hurricane, replying to one-liners and easy targets, skirting around or flat-out avoiding any post of substance, and then showing up days later - on a random and unlikely thread - repeating her lies about Gore winning the election and Iraq.
The other day we cornered her and pressed her for an actual link to back up her lies. She posted a link to a personal website authored by some moonbat with no legitimate references. When we tore into her, she disappeared.
But keep up the good work. Every time she shows up she ends up slinking off in defeat. Maybe after a while she'll get the memo and go away.

Yo Montana, Nothing worse than a sore loser... Al Gore.
December 11, 2007 - 04:54 ET by Parker12271.

December 11, 2007 - 12:37 ET by candanceNice reply, but don't expect an answer from Hannah.
