How Much Coverage Will Jackson's Anti-Obama Slurs Get?A lot for a while, it's Obama's Sister Souljah moment 8% (222 votes) A lot at first but dying off pretty quickly 37% (1008 votes) Some 8% (214 votes) Not very much outside of fair or right-leaning media 47% (1259 votes) Total votes: 2703

Informal sub-poll
July 10, 2008 - 11:12 ET by sarcasmoHow many people here besides me think this was probably all a staged event? I'll fully agree that he advocates a wide variety of proven-stupid policies which increase the size & scope of an already-obese government, but IMO Jesse's just not that stupid.

Jackson's words and syntax
July 10, 2008 - 11:18 ET by Chris NormanJackson's words and syntax struck me as sounding stilted and artificial. It just didn't sound like normal conversation.

July 10, 2008 - 11:22 ET by TruthMongerconspiracy theories abound
has the MSM even mentioned this at all yet?
if they ever do I HEREBY PLEDGE TO MOVE TO BELGIUM WITH ALEC BALDWIN:)!

July 10, 2008 - 12:20 ET by BelnumCreeNot saying it was staged, but it's awful convenient that, with his followers upset about his Flip-Flops, he's been given a golden opportunity to be made a victim again. =/

Hmmm
July 10, 2008 - 12:29 ET by BelnumCreeExcellent point. I didn't think of that.
→ Heavens, Chris
July 10, 2008 - 12:32 ET by Cool ArrowYou don't suppose Jackson may have used any particular epithet that would further paint Obama as a victim?
No, couldn't be.
But O'Reilly has opened the door to the wildest speculation imagineable.

That's really far-fetched
July 10, 2008 - 12:39 ET by Matthew SheffieldJackson has been known to dislike Obama for a long time.
He's an idiot who uses that kind of stilted, crude language all the time. Unfortunately for him, however, he got caught on the mic.

July 10, 2008 - 13:17 ET by Chris NormanMS,
I try not to listen to him. He really speaks like this "in private"? He sounded like he was reading a telegram.
McNotObama '08
That's where we disagree.
July 10, 2008 - 13:37 ET by sarcasmoIf I thought Jackson was an idiot, I'd be able to believe he'd make a stupid remark like that on mic and in enemy (Fox News...) territory. But I can't make myself believe Jesse's being stupid instead of conniving this time, so the more I think about it, the more I think it's got to be staged by Jesse. He has little reputation left to lose at this point, and it's a way of getting media attention onto Jesse Jackson & off the other guy with the cute young kids.

They're covering it
July 10, 2008 - 11:24 ET by forestThey will cover it, but I've already noticed a strange tone of understatement involved - even at FNC.
Jackson said he wanted to cut the nuts off a major presidential candidate and everyone is referring to it as "rude" or whatever. The BBC actually callled it a "jibe". A jibe? You gotta be kidding me. Would it be a "jibe" if Don Imus had said it?

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.
What Gospel Does Jackson Preach?
July 10, 2008 - 11:32 ET by GothampcI'm wondering what gospel Jackson preaches to allow him to say something like that. No clergy I listen to would stoop so low.
If this were a Republican, it would have been front and center for days. What clergy goes around saying he wants to cut someone's nuts off? If John Hagee said that about John McCain, he would have been ostracized. If the Pope said that about Cardinal Egan, there would be media attention for days. But let a black, liberal "clergy" say it and it's a non-issue.
→ Sistah Soljah
July 10, 2008 - 11:35 ET by Cool ArrowThat's a great idea, but I don't think Obama has the cajones to make an issue of it.
He'll probably give a rope-a-dope answer to it, complete with very little gesticular animation.

Jesse's moot point

I guess that makes Jesse's comment moot.

All over the MSM
July 10, 2008 - 12:04 ET by ChaitealoverI've found it interesting that even Fox has paid a lot of attention to this comment/apology from the no-longer-relevant Jesse Jackson, while not talking about Obama's command to teach your child Spanish. [Note: he specifically said "Spanish," not "a second language".]
Playing Jackson's comment makes Obama looked like he's being picked on, while his own shows he's a typical lib, telling parents he knows the best way to raise their children.

Instead of worrying about whether immigrants can learn English—they’ll learn English—you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish. Barack Obama July 8, 2008
Give us a break with the Spanish line...
July 10, 2008 - 12:27 ET by ImAllRightLay off of the paranoia.
He's not some undercover agent for another Gov. And what's so bad about becoming smarter and more well read? You don't have to learn Spanish, he may be imploring you but let's face it, you aren't being forced and neither are your children.
Sometimes some of us on the right are too much of a bunch of whining b****es and we end up looking just as overly sensitive to passing remarks as those on the left.
This entire issue is pointless and so is Jackson. I hope the MSM and Fox pay no attention to this.
Instead lets hear about how Obama will pay for his Medicare plan or how McCain will get us off of Saudi oil. (I know, long shot)
What Jackson said about Obama does not cencern me.
Spanish? Europeans all
July 10, 2008 - 12:35 ET by bassndudeSpanish? Europeans all speak english? Not unless they are British or a Doctor, or other professional that requires it. Thats nonsense. I spent a few years in Europe, and those who spoke english were few and far between. Sure, they teach english in schools and the kids learn to say "fork" "spoon" "knife", but his assertion that the europeans that come to the US all speak english is flat out wrong.
Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!
My point
July 10, 2008 - 18:35 ET by Chaitealoverwas that he specified Spanish, not just a second language - as someone who lives in La Raza ['for the race everything, outside of the race; nothing'] and Reconquistor ['reconquer Alta California'] territory, I find that interesting. As to "they'll learn English," that's not necessarily true, as anyone who lives in the vicinity of any barrio can tell you. Many will learn English well, many will learn just enough English to get by, many will expect the rest of the world to conform to them. Thus we have brand-name groceries labeled both in English and Spanish, billboards in Spanish, etc.
Europeans need to learn several languages because the countries are relatively small and have different languages. If you start out in London and travel 2,000 miles in any direction, you would travel through several countries with different dominant languages [some even "official languages"], so the ability to speak other languages is very helpful. Starting out in Los Angeles, you could travel that far, and even further, and not have the need for any language except English [yet]. Having your child learn a second language is a personal choice, not something someone else has any right telling a parent they need to make sure their child does.

July 10, 2008 - 12:28 ET by jefflebowskiI didn't get the chance to see O'Reilly last night but I heard that they were not going to show the whole tape because it was too provocative or something like that.
Can someone fill me in? Why would Fox not play the entire tape? I believe that they would have if it was a white person saying something about Obama.

July 10, 2008 - 13:47 ET by bigtimerHi jeff...
I heard the reason the didn't play the rest of the tape was because it wasn't pertinent to this remark...blah blah blah...
To others who think this was staged...I don't think so myself...Jackson got caught....plain adn simple, he is a rude crude racist shyster among other things IMO...plus he knew about this tape being out there before Fox released this, supposedly talked to Obama knowing this all the time about other matters...before apologizing...
Oh the hypocrisy of it all...
The msm was in deep spin with all of this last night...the leftists crack me up...if this was reversed in all venues...the white repubs would of already been run out of town....
This is only going to last a couple of days in my opinion, may be talked about on the Sunday shows if nothing major happens between now and then, that is about it though..just my opinion anyway.

I don't understand...
July 10, 2008 - 13:51 ET by sarcasmoYes, he made the "hymietown" remark, but you'd think a guy as smart as Jesse wouldn't make this kind of mistake again, and in enemy territory, as I've said. OTOH, it's easy to believe he's conniving enough to do it deliberately. Just MHO.
