Yeah, it was a bit much, and I say this as a fan and child of the '80s who grew up listening to his music.

An earlier post on here mentioned how the network newscasts focused so much on Jackson on Friday that they practically ignored the House vote onthe cap and trade bill. That probably bugs me more than anything, and it wasn't just the American broadcasters, either. I checked out the BBC World newscast they run at 11 p.m. every night on the public TV stations here in Iowa and that's all they focused on, too. This is probably why I don't watch a lot of TV news anymore.

With the cap and trade bill, you could argue that anyone in power could sneak something through without people knowing about it because they're all distracted by something shinier like the MJ story.

Sad stuff.

I think the coverage is over the top.  But we live in an American Idol culture.  I'm mad at Fox News for giving over their time to it.  While Congress is voting on cap/trade tax hike, and Iran and North Korea are going crazy, we have to watch Sheperd Smith relate his stories about dancing to Michael Jackson.  I have come to expect that garbage from the other networks, but I was hoping Fox News was above it.

I just came back from the movies with my oldest son and decided to check in here and started reading the threads about the gloved one and saw that people were saying that Billy Mays had died. I googled it and sure enough, the Mighty Putty man is gone. I wonder what coverage he will get? I know I will miss him a whole lot more.

I don't see it unreasonable that the media should cover this the way that it is. After all it is the untimely death of the most famous person of all time who is also the highest selling music artist of all time (yes some one actually more famous then Obama). 

 Also i doubt the msm would have covered the cap n trade bill much even if the pop king hadn't died. oddly enough the news seems a little more back to normal then what has been the status quo lately.

I'm fortunate enough not to be affected by the traffic problems created by the media and fan obsession with his death, but the fact that I can't even get our local garbage Fox morning news is bothersome.  I just want to see some weather, the morning traffic, maybe something about the local economy and the state of this pathetic state's economy, and instead it's Michael Jackson.  It's really sad, and what's worse is the aftermath, the speculation about everything from his 84 tour, the lawsuits, his children, and his death.  

Even sadder is that Harvey Levin seems to be leading this unnecessary gossip.  How do we get HIM cancelled???
