October 3, 2008 - 02:22 ET by general companyThought she did just fine, in-fact if I criticized her I apologize. Between her and Palin Biden never had a chance. Cant wait to read those unwriten Chapters on Obama.

No apologies
October 3, 2008 - 02:28 ET by NeoConfirmedIf you can stomach it, watch her on PBS over the next week. You'll get a different version. Besides, it's the principle of the thing. The only thing I ask in the future is that the moderator hasn't written a book about one of the candidates or has their poster on her bedroom wall
A- She did alright. I
October 3, 2008 - 02:44 ET by soulpileA- She did alright. I thought she was actually a little tougher on Biden. Of course, she wasn't perfect. Actually, now that I think about it, I'd vote B if given the chance to change it.
A- for Gwen Awful
October 3, 2008 - 05:21 ET by ScandimanI gave her a A-. Actually she surpassed my expectations and was quite balanced on the whole. The joke in my subject line aside, I have to admit that she had a respectable performance. Maybe she should write a book about the Palin family?
She Knew We Were Watching Her....
October 3, 2008 - 05:22 ET by dodecahedronWith all the controversy surrounding her Obama book and obvious personal bias, Ifill was on her best behavior. Any signs of bias in this debate could have been career-ending.
She did ok. I gave her an A-.

October 3, 2008 - 06:08 ET by Roger the ShrubberOur brains are on the same wavelength, Dode. I apologize for that bad news :)
She was good in spite of the controversy IMO...
October 3, 2008 - 10:05 ET by GordyIt's not like this is the first debate she's moderated. During the last Presidential Election season, I was quite impressed with her straightforwardness and humor throughout the process. Part of me thinks this was a bit of a red herring--just in case Sarah didn't do well. It wasn't necessary, Sarah was excellent...as was Gwen.

October 3, 2008 - 06:52 ET by iveseenitallI gave her a C when I should have given her a B. What's wrong? That's what "liberal" professors do to conservative students all the time. Turn about is fair play. he,he,he
NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"
Who came up with the format?
October 3, 2008 - 06:58 ET by c5thenAbout 3/4 thru the 1st hour, Ifill asked each candidate two different questions and then picked one to answer first.
What a stupid idea.
And asking a candidate "what they think their 'Achilles Heel' is? Yeah, like anyone is going to really answer that one. Biden tried to interject some self-conscious pretend humility, but Palin just ignored the question as was prudent.
I think she did a decent
October 3, 2008 - 07:57 ET by SmartypantsI think she did a decent job, but I have a couple of gripes. First, she gave Biden way too much time on most of his responses, after stating that the answers were limited to two minutes. I'm sure if someone timed his responses, many were well over that limit. This is after she cut Palin off in the middle of an answer when Palin had not even been talking all that long. Also, I believe on at least two or three occasions, the moderator gave Biden the last word when it was not owed him according to the procedure. Biden got the last word in far more often than did Palin. Perhaps Palin should have been a little more aggressive in getting her say, but I don't think that's her style.
One of the blogs I read said
October 3, 2008 - 10:23 ET by chambodiaOne of the blogs I read said there was a 6:1 ratio between Biden getting to either talk longer or have the last word. I think that was mid-debate, so I am not sure where they ended up. I do think her bias was showing in that, though overall, the impression was that she was basically fair.
If that ratio is true, she definitely was not fair, but at least she wasn't able to throw Palin off.

Biden gets pass on extra response
October 3, 2008 - 08:36 ET by pumapurrIt seemed Ifill let Biden get in an extra response at least a couple of times. Ifill was about to ask a new question and Biden just loudly talked over her. She didn't call him on it.
And she never interrupted Biden, but did interrupt Palin.

October 3, 2008 - 08:39 ET by VerbinatorI wasn't able to see the debate, but I did listen to it. I was concerned about Ifil's apparent Obamabias, but pleasantly surprised. To the ear, she was polite, professional, asked focused questions, kept a decent reign on the debaters. If I had to choose between Ifil and Lehrer for another debate moderator, I'd choose Ifil.
I gave her a B
October 3, 2008 - 09:18 ET by Adam_MEAnd that seems to be the most popular choice right now in this poll.
One major gripe I had with her questions was that the only time she asked about energy policy, it was with regard to climate change.
Palin actually had to bring up domestic drilling and energy independence on her own. That's too important an issue for Ifill to ignore. I don't know if it's a result of her bias, but I was disappointed with that.
Good point Adam... I also
October 3, 2008 - 10:23 ET by bigtimerGood point Adam...
I also am sick of not hearing about illegal immigration anywhere, wanna' bet it doesn't come up in the next two debates either, as both men are basically on the same side....amnesty for all one way or the other...I don't care what kind of lip-stick you put on the words it's still a pig.

True, but ...
October 3, 2008 - 10:26 ET by MeanderingThere were at least 2 times Ifill cut Palin off right when she was on a roll with her response and cutting down the Obama/Biden love fest by stating the facts about their voting records and Ifill jumped in to say time was up and they needed to move on. I don't blame Ifill for trying to stick to the time, but I don't recall her cutting Biden off. However, she did hit Biden a few times with his past that I found funny, so I gave Ifill a B-. She did better than I expected, but what was with the gay marriage/right question? I found the question irrelevant to a VP debate and right out of the liberal playbook.

October 3, 2008 - 13:56 ET by ThisnThatYou didn't see the bias in her question about "Suppose the President died -- what would you do"? Which presidential candidate has been the subject of a lot of hit pieces about his age, his cancer, his "mental condition" as a result of his POW experience? Do you think this question was accidental, or would be asked with respect to Obama? This was bias of the sneakiest sort. I gave her an "F" for this.

Ifill needs two letter grades for each camp
October 3, 2008 - 12:25 ET by Lame CherryGweny needs two letter grades as she had an F for failing the messiah and an F for being an Obama shill as I predicted in key words of "experience" and "heartbeat" to which Sarah Palin just blew it away.
Ifill is a failure in so many ways. She lied to Jim Lehrer humiliating him by tarnishing his tarnished image as being impartial and ruined Washington Week. She did it all falling on the sword for Obama and Barack didn't even invite her over for a smoke.
Perhaps both Oprah and her with failed careers thanks to Obama can eat cookies together sipping low fat milk talking about what might have been if Democrats has nominated Bill Cosby.

October 3, 2008 - 13:46 ET by SemperrightI'll give the Moderator a big D also. She was not moderate she was biased. She should be called the biaserator.
