Occasionally, but not

Occasionally, but not lately. They have been more of a drag down. Asking questions nobody cares about, and sometimes acting down right stupid.

Sorry, did I say "acting stupid"?

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Not only do I not-know the name

Of the "moderator" for the Lincoln Douglass debates, I don't even know if there WAS any "moderator" back then, yet they somehow held a long, complex debate. People like me keep telling others to look to America's history & her Constitution as answers to modern problems for what seems to some like a "weird" reason. They're what actually worked.

Are you kidding us?

They "subtract" value from them.  I've seen more class amongst the judges of the America's Top Model show.

No!

I say get rid of the "moderators" and give the candidates pugil sticks and padding.

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

Padding? Whatever

Padding? Whatever for?

You're absolutely correct...and the cups come off too!!

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

IF they were demolibs,

Then there wouldn't be a NEED for cups, would there?

Cept for Hillary :-)

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

True,

oh, so true. The reason she doesn't wear skirts, right!?

Int - keeps the debate

"G" rated! but I like the thought - toughens them up for dealing with Imadinnerjacket and the rest of the wackos.

Unfortunatley debates these

Unfortunatley debates these days aren't really debates. They are "ratings" grabs for the sponsoring news channel. Thats why you see all this silly stuff going on. This latest debate was somewhat refreshing simply because you didn't see "CNN/You Tube" plastered all over the place. What it lacked in promo's pasted all over the stage, was made up for with a horrible moderator and boring format.

You Could Get More Viewers . . . .

. . . .  If Simon, Paula and Randy were the questioners.

How about Laura Ingrahm or

How about Laura Ingrahm or Michelle Malkin or even the dragon lady Ann Coulter, now those would draw ratings and controversy.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.

The demolibs would "run away"

so there'd be NO debate, whild the publicans would be debating, and "joe six-pack" might actually learn something - and that would be the reason it wouldn't happen, the msm (Lsm) is more afraid of an educated populace than the demolibs. But if the marketing folks were really smart,  . . .

Only the Republicans are

Only the Republicans are crazy enough to have what amounts to the opposition frame the questions at their debates...

I think they usually add

I think they usually add value. The right questions, asked of the right people, can be very valuable to a candidate... just look at the Blitzer/Clinton team. Also, good moderators like Brit Hume always add a lot to the debate.

Bruz - the operative words

IS -right questions- won't usually see that, 'tis a shame!

The questions of the media

The questions of the media moderators are often inane and/or titled to the left.

And the debates themselves are seldom actual debates but more frequently candidates taking turns being interviewed. It'd be like all the candidates appearing on Meet The Press and Tim Russert taking turns asking each of them a question, instead of asking one person questions for the whole hour.

It used to be different. Remember when they actually used to let the candidates ask each other questions and reply back and forth to each other?

A liberal persuaded against his will is of the same opinion still.

had to go with NEVER

only because it isn't about them. Questions should be limited to:

who - why do you think you are the best person for the job?

what - what are the most important issues according to you?

where - where is the US in relation to the rest of the world, economically, socially, security wise?

when - when do you think (something/anything) will happen to this country/end (whatever) for the US?

how - how do you perceive the US and its role on the world stage?

THEN - talk issues; military, taxes, immigration, taxes, social security, taxes, budgets, . . .

Who is the "school marm"??

Who is the "school marm"?? and how did she get the gig??

Chris Wallace is the only one I like.

Matthews, Queef Obermann and Blitz....suck.

mom

That woman is like the senior editor of the Des Moines Register or sumpin...they're the ones who organized this debate.

Unless it is Bernie asking Dukakis

Unless it is a liberal Bernie asking liberal Mike Dukakis an easy question of "If a man rapes and murders your wife would you still parole him"..........

And Dukakis blinks and says, "Yup would have him over for tea with my daughters too", there really is only garbage at these debates.

They all run the same way in showing Democrats want to tax the world into oblivion and everyone except Fred Thompson is a closet Democrat on the GOP side.

Dick Cheney had a love fest with Joe Lieberman, the wives all dunce about and I really do not want to see Bill Clinton rubbing his body into Jeri Thompson 10 seconds too long in an opening hug. Debates are what Newt stated in auditions where people are trying to get a sound bite by being the most goofy.

Huckabee surgers in the GOP and apparently no one is listening to what he really was talking about no more than Ron Paul's ideas would get nuclear bombs dropped into American cities by terrorists.

People cheer that 3 million people watched a debate..........that is 1 percent of 300 million Americans. The other 297 have the right outlook in not paying attention to what is going on until September 2008 as nothing is said in these but pandering and idiocy.

I voted "never," of course.

But if I had to choose one media personality to moderate a single future debate (which should be held at a reasonable non-workday hour, and should last for a reasonable while, perhaps with the candidates in easy chairs instead of at-lecturns...) I'd choose Brian Lamb of C-Span for his personality, wit, and most of all his un-media-like fairness over the years to libertarians. C-Span is the only entity with a shred of reputation-enough to "fix" the debates at this point IMO, and even they might not be up to it.

Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh

Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh etc. would add value...but that would be the day.

media moderators

I agree with Conservative Voice..Give me Rush or Beck any day. Naturally it will never happen. We are stuck

Media Elihu's

When Satan couldn't break Job's mind and will with his 3 miserable comforter friends what did he do?

He brought in his top man, Elihu ... reams of truth - whole chapters - but with only one goal, one aim, one objective ... to steal the truth from Job's mind and replace it with a lie.

THAT'S what the DEMOCRAT, LIBERAL moderators do to conservative candidates.

B.C. Spiritual Tactics in an A.D. Spiritual Competition

You want a case study in the methods Satan used to deceive Eve in Genesis 3:1-7? in how he used Bildad, Eliphaz, Zophar, and Elihu to try to get Job to accuse God of folly? in how he used the Pharisees and Sadducees to repeatedly entrap Jesus Christ in his words?

WATCH DEMOCRAT MODERATORS IN A DEBATE ... OR DEMOCRAT "LEADERSHIP" IN WASHINGTON GOING AFTER GEORGE BUSH ON AN ISSUE ... OR LIBERAL REPORTERS IN A WHITE HOUSE PRESS CONFERENCE.

Usually: YES. When they are

Usually: YES. When they are certain the topics they choose are 50/50 and wouldn't necessarily hurt Democrats.

Sometimes: OF COURSE. Whenever they are convinced that they have enough time to make up for whatever mistakes they made in the debate.

Occasionally: SURE. When they feel like throwing Republicans a bone.

Never: They will always make sure that that "value", will never never "value" Republicans.

Only in one debate

In the Fox News debate, with the Republicans, the moderator was what you'd want a moderator to be, other than that, the rest of the debates were a joke.  The worst moderator had to be the last one, in Iowa. Did you really have a clue as to why she was there and what her job was?  A show of hands, please.

Democrats: Specializing in "high tech lynching" since 1987.

   I'm sticking to my

I'm sticking to my premise that debates are a joke, a waste of time, an unnecessary diversion, a hoax, pretentious, garbage, a pile of pomposity, and stupid.

The moderators are just sitting in the middle of shite, and spew the same.

Anyone who says they support the troops but not the mission is a liar.

Journalists today miss the point...

The moderator of a debate is there to act as an impartial referee -- they are not there to:

  • add value to the debate
  • add entertainment to the debate
  • be the star of the debate
  • create news where none exists
  • trip up the debaters

One of the first things I learned in journalism school was that journalists are not supposed to be the story, nor are we supposed to participate in the story or influence the outcome of an unfolding story.

However, the journalists moderating these debates often think it's all about them (and isn't it nice that all these politicians showed up to make me feel more important than I already do!) If the moderator of the recent Iowa debate had had her way, we could've been done in 10 minutes:

"Okay, everyone who thinks global warming is caused by man, raise your hands."

"Great! Now, everyone who is in favor of a handgun ban, raise your hands..."

"All right ... um ... everyone who is opposed to universal healthcare, please raise your hands."

"Excellent! We'd like to thank you gentlemen for coming, and hope that Iowans now have a better idea of what each of you stands for!"

The difference between liberals and conservatives is that conservatives believe liberals are wrong, while liberals believe conservatives are evil.
