I never

I never travel far at Thanksgving any further than accross town, never have. Does that make me "green"? Ha, maybe I'll ride my bike this time that would REALLY make me "green". Do you think that would get me on the Today show etc, or would I have to lie and pin a sign on my back saying that I never voted for Bush? ;-)

Happy Thanksgiving !

FOTR, if I rode my bicycle

FOTR, if I rode my bicycle to Thanksgiving dinner, it wouldn't make me green, it would make me blue: it's colder than a witch's ... uh, colder than a well-digger's ... uh, colder than a mother-in-law's kiss. Yeah, that's it, colder than a mother-in-law's kiss.

Traveling during major holidays...

...just seems like an exercise in stress acquisition.

Traffic, prices for gas, overbooked flights, crowds, harried law enforcement officials trying to keep the roads safe from the drunk, the stressed, and the folk ill-equipped to deal with it all.

No.

I think a nice, quiet day with a few friends, some good food, a nice libation or three, and some peace and quiet is my agenda.

And I am thankful that this is the case!

 I start the day shift

I start the day shift Friday so we're staying home this year.  I am glad though,  as I usually have to work on Thanksgiving and Christmas etc.

Please keep our soldiers in your prayers this Thanksgiving as they will be keeping us in theirs.

Thanks!!  Y'all have a happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful to have been invited to a family gathering.

Grateful I didn't have a family member come to meet my ship in Hong Kong as the CHICOMs once again showed us who they are. Seems they're pissed about something and canceled the Kitty Hawk Taskforce scheduled port visit at the last minute. The Kitty Hawk crew will have the turkey onboard in the South China Sea while their stranded family members will fend for themselves in sunny downtown Hong Kong. Too bad there isn't time to schedule a Thanksgiving Day port visit in Taiwan.
We should be thankful that the CHICOMs made the effort to remind us that they are not our friends, but the enemy of free people the world over. Just something to think about before you make your next purchase of anything with a made in China label on it. 2012 Olympics anyone?

I-10 Is My Friend

target shooting

No, all my buds and rels are coming to my house because I live so far out in the country, we can target shoot without being hassled.  I just returned from looking at the new weapons bought since last year.  There's a Colt Python with an 8" barrel that looks inviting; two Civil War era muskets; a . 45 Glock..I haven't seen one of those; .40 Sig Sauer (sp); an old .38 Colt target pistol (1930's); and the usual array of rifles and shotguns.  Heavy metal Thanksgiving.

Last night we bagged a very nice hog and this morning shot some squirrels...grandma likes them for breakfast.  If any of you have it better than I on this day, let me know.

bagged a very nice hog

Can't we make it through just one day without a Rosie comment?

850 Miles, give or take

... to visit with a couple of Marines (including my son) recently back from deployment in Iraq, and getting ready for their Spring 2008 deployment.

And you know what? Not once have I asked my Senator to "willingly suspend disbelief" to know these marines have done, and will continue to do, an excellent job in keeping this country safe. Wish I could say the same for people the likes of Murtha, Clinton, Obama, Kennedy, Reid, Pelosi, and the rest of the yahoos in our Congress. I wouldn't cross the street to wish any of them a happy Thanksgiving.

traveling on the holiday

Going about 100 miles from Chattanooga to Knoxville. Wednesday evening there was lots of traffic and heavy rain so the drive was kinda stressful (maybe more than usual with my new son in the car).

But now that we're here, nice and relaxing, good food and good company. Happy Thanksgiving, ya'll.
