They made this big deal of what a great speaker she was, what a good governor, etc, but as soon as the convention was over they lock her in a room and don't let her talk. It has been compounded by the fact that what little video they have to play of her off-prompter she puts her foot in her mouth by almost biden-esque proportions. When Couric asked the journalism major, who said she keeps up to date by reading papers, she failed, utterly. When she gave that 20 minute rambling explanation about russia, that somehow included healthcare, what the hell was that?

No one watches tv to see politicians give pat, practiced, concise answers, they only want to see these people make fools of themselves. If people didn't watch it, they wouldn't put it on TV. It's the Fox model spread across the ideological spectrum

It's more like what they tried to do to Clarence Thomas.  A black conservative is a threat to the Liberal lie of republican racism, and Palin is a threat to the Liberal lie of republican sexism.

But even worse, Palin is a walking demonstration of the vacuity of feminism.  She is a mom, a successful career woman, a babe AND a republican.  Her success in this election (and in the future) would be a repudiation of the ridiculous post-modern feminist philosophy.

Think about it. Her selection as VP has succeeded in significant ways: galvanized the base, neutralized the identity politics issue, and awakened the sleeping giant of Republican women.  

The GOP always makes the same mistake:  they assume that if they go play in the media sandbox, THIS time they will be treated fairly.  They rarely are. 

Given the way that Sarah Palin has been treated by the media (just look at the way her interviews have been EDITED, for petssake), and knowing the sole goal of the media is to play an extreme verision of "gotcha,"  why would she go there? If she could expect at least a semblence of fairness, maybe. But this is not American Gladiator. (Actually American Gladiator is more fair because all contestants have the same rules and playing field - I'm still waiting for the army of researchers to show up in Chicago to research Obama.)

So I am fine with her choosing interviews where she has the best chance of being heard, and letting the rest focus on McCain.

It is deeply unfair that the new standard of success in GOP campaigning is to somehow communicate despite the media. Is it too much to ask to be part of a grown-up two-party dialog on where the country is going? A democracy relies on media to survive. This year a majority of media have finally and completely turned without shame (or self-awareness) into a communication arm of one party. That endangers the democracy. Or sets the stage for an angry revolt.

I understand what you mean by the question, but the wording suggests that Dan Quayle was what he was portrayed to be.  It would have been better to ask if the media was smearing Palin the way they did Quayle in 1988.

The media is defining Palin through SNL.  Every time she speaks everyone thinks it's a comedy routine.  It's a damn shame, but you can't get that picture out of your head once MSM has run it a bjillion times.  Deeee-pressing as hell.  I am praying for a miracle.

The media has simply run out of things to smear Gov. Palin on so have settled on until the debate when she trounces Joe Biden, then they will term Sarah Palin as "brilliantly stupid" just like they made a career out of smearing George Bush who they could not defeat as "brilliantly stupid".

Ronald Reagan was also brilliantly stupid. Rush Limbaugh is brilliantly stupid too as Ann Coulter is.

It is typical liberal failures retreating to their 5 year old retaliation, "You're sputid" as they pout.

God bless Sarah Palin as this nation needs her for the disasters which are coming from  the crooks of the Obama mentors.

still almost nothing in the press about that liar biden.  just some gaffes, etc all forgivable if you are a pinhead.  but what about the FACT that he is a freakin' pathological liar?  that he lied for sympathy or to get some kind of political advantage about the deaths of his wife and daughter.  he alluded to them being killed by a drunk driver...something that is not only patently false, but has caused much pain to the family of the man driving the car that hit them when they turned in front of him.  if biden was pinnochio the end of his nose wouldn't even be in the same county as the rest of him.

Dan Qyayle is an intelligent guy who was maligned by the MSM. The won't get away with it on Gov. Palin, they no longer have a monopoly on the news. She will do fine, she has three things no democrat or MSM stooge has - class, intelligence and integrity. Can't wait to see her nail Biden's sorry hide to the wall.
