Joy Behar Claims ‘You Can't Really Stay On TV Unless You're Likable’

By Jeffrey Meyer | March 11, 2013 | 15:00

A  A

Following her announcement that she will be departing the cast of ‘The View’, co-host Joy Behar has taken it upon herself to reach into the depths of absurdity in her final few months on the daytime talk show.  On March 11, the five co-hosts were discussing Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg’s recent book Lean In, and the role women have in the workplace.

Following Whoopi Goldberg quoting Sandberg’s book, where she states that, “working women are not assertive enough. And this quote, they don't have leadership, there's a leadership ambition gap”, Behar claims that, “When Hillary Clinton becomes president, the glass ceiling will be broken.”  [See video after jump.  MP3 audio here.]

Barbara Walters Denies Elisabeth Hasselbeck Leaving 'The View'

By Jeffrey Meyer | March 11, 2013 | 11:57

A  A

After intense media speculation over the weekend surrounding Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s future on ‘The View,’ on the March 11 edition of the talk show, host and creator Barbara Walters shot down any speculation that Hasselbeck had been fired.  Speaking on Monday morning, Walters denied the rumors and stated that:

“The truth is we love Elisabeth. I like her personally, and she's just a wonderful person. But beyond that we value and appreciate her point of view, it's important to us, because Elisabeth helps give the show perspective and balance. And believe me she's tougher than she looks. She’s had to sit here for a decade and take the kind of guff we give her. So we have no plans for Elisabeth to leave this show.”

The View Co-Hosts Freak Out Over New NRA Ad

By Jeffrey Meyer | January 16, 2013 | 16:06

A  A

What a surprise that the ladies of The View are outraged over a new NRA commercial that addresses President Obama’s hypocrisy over having armed guards in schools across America.  Discussing the ad on Wednesday, January 16, the women of The View had some harsh words for the "sick" NRA spot.

After playing the ad, the entire cast expressed outrage, furiously talking over one another in a rush to bash the NRA as “nuts." Host Barbara Walters claimed to be particularly offended at the reference to President Obama’s two daughters in the advertisement, failing to point out the true message the NRA was arguing.  [See video after jump.  MP3 audio here.]

Cuomo Dipping Toe In '16 Water With Star-Studded Hurricane Sandy PSA?

By Mark Finkelstein | November 28, 2012 | 09:32

A  A

Throughout his tenure as Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo has chosen to maintain a surprisingly low profile.  Think quick: how much footage have you seen of him in the Hurricane Sandy aftermath compared to his cross-George Washington Bridge buddy, Chris Christie?

But has Cuomo finally decided the time has come to make himself more visible?  A PSA for Hurricane Sandy relief, aired on Morning Joe today featuring a star-studded cast of Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Whoopi Goldberg, Edie Falco, Michael J. Fox, Julianna Margulies and Nathan Lane.  One panel, devoid of reference to the relief organization, starkly read "Join Governor Cuomo and New York." View the video after the jump.

The View Welcomes Guest Host Stacey Dash, Challenges Her Conservative Views

By Ryan Robertson | November 15, 2012 | 18:49

A  A

In what was a transparent attempt to scrutinize how conservative a black actress can really be, the ladies of The View invited Stacey Dash on the program to substitute for Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Immediately following her summary of what was to come, Whoopi Goldberg inquired how Dash was doing after the vicious attacks she had endured on Twitter for simply endorsing Mitt Romney.

Without resorting to the same animosity, the liberal hostesses were seemingly just as incredulous. Why would someone like her -- a black woman who works in Hollywood -- vote for anyone but Obama? They made it their mission to find out, pushing her to explain herself. Perhaps they were too busy to read the 3-page essay that she posted online before the election. [video below, MP3 audio here]

Ann Romney Corrects Whoopi Goldberg's False Claim About Mormonism Forbidding Military Service

By Matthew Balan | October 18, 2012 | 18:25

A  A

Tim Graham pointed out earlier on Thursday how Whoopi Goldberg forwarded a misunderstanding on ABC's The View during an interview of Ann Romney - that Mormonism "doesn't allow you to go fight" in the military. Mrs. Romney corrected this false statement: "No, that's not correct....We have many, many members of our faith that are serving in the armed services."

Goldberg could have just consulted Wikipedia, as the website lists four Mormon recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military award for valor - one from World War I, two from World War II, and one from the Vietnam War.

‘The View’ Co-Hosts Freak Out When Hasselbeck Suggests Hollywood Is For Obama

By Jeffrey Meyer | October 17, 2012 | 14:58

A  A

The View has a long reputation for its liberal slant, but when one of its own calls out the liberal bias among celebrities, hysteria ensues.

Such was the case on Wednesday when the lone conservative Elizabeth Hasselbeck spoke out against the overwhelming liberal presence that dominates Hollywood.   [See video below break.  MP3 audio here.]

Whoopi Goldberg Falsely Claims Koch Warned Employees They'd Lose Jobs If Obama Reelected

By Noel Sheppard | October 15, 2012 | 17:45

A  A

As NewsBusters reported last week, Westgate Resorts CEO David Siegel recently warned his employees that he will likely have to lay people off if Barack Obama is re-elected.

With total disregard for the truth, ABC's Whoopi Goldberg on Monday's The View said it was "the president of Koch Industries" that did this (video follows with transcript and commentary):

In Bizarre Fashion, The View Keeps Blaming Movie for Violence and Death

By Ryan Robertson | September 27, 2012 | 10:42

A  A

The ridiculous media narrative continues, in spite of the mounting evidence that has proven otherwise. A movie clip posted on YouTube months ago is still being blamed for the unspeakable acts of violence that occurred over two weeks ago. The media has effectively demonized an amateur filmmaker for allegedly inciting more rage and violence in the Middle East. It's almost as if they are equating hate speech with murder, and absolving the angry mobs for what they did. They just couldn't help themselves.

One of the actresses from The Innocence of Muslims was invited on The View on Wednesday morning to share her side of the story. What ensued was a peculiar interview that dragged on for over 7 minutes. While the rest of the cast was said to be in hiding, Cindy Lee Garcia 'bravely' made an appearance on national television to set the record straight. (see video below, MP3 audio available here)

ABC's 'The View' Crew Had Some Puffy Questions for Obamas

By Ryan Robertson | September 26, 2012 | 13:06

A  A

The Obamas found the time to appear on The View on Monday, and the hour-long special was shown on Tuesday. In yet another casual interview for the entertainment-focused media, the First Couple responded to a myriad of questions from the hosts of The View that only touched on issues of significance near the end. Did we really need to hear about the Obama marriage and courtship....again?

For example, Barbara Walters wanted to know how they were going to celebrate their twentieth wedding anniversary. Sherri Shepherd thought they should share the story behind their first kiss. Joy Behar wondered what time they go to bed and what they talk about. Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked about their daughters' extracurricular activities, but Whoopi Goldberg stayed uncharacteristically quiet until she could ask a more topical question.

Chris Wallace Asks Obama Adviser 'President Has Time for Whoopi Goldberg But Not World Leaders?'

By Noel Sheppard | September 23, 2012 | 10:22

A  A

Fox News's Chris Wallace on Sunday asked senior Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs an absolutely delicious question about the current White House resident's schedule.

During a Fox News Sunday interview, the host said, "The President has blocked out time to appear on The View on Tuesday. So, he has time for Whoopi Goldberg but he doesn’t have time for world leaders?" (video follows with transcript and absolutely no need for commentary):

Whoopi Goldberg Trashes Romney: 'A Man Who Sheds Ideas Faster Than a Snake Sheds Skin'

By Noel Sheppard | September 20, 2012 | 09:53

A  A

Whoopi Goldberg clearly isn't happy that Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney considers the ladies of The View "high-risk" and "sharp-tongued."

On Wednesday, she mounted an epic rant against the former Massachusetts governor on Twitter calling him "a man who sheds ideas faster than a snake sheds skin":

ABC's The View Hosts Decry Threats Against Brad Pitt's Conservative Mom

By Brad Wilmouth | July 14, 2012 | 11:32

On Tuesday's The View on ABC, the group criticized death threats made against actor Brad Pitt's conservative mother after she wrote a letter to the editor of the Springfield News-Leader in Missouri defending Mitt Romney and asking people not to vote for President Obama, citing her religious objections to abortion and same-sex marriage.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg introduced the topic:

Whenever Barack Obama has gone on ABC's The View, he's been gushed and fawned over like a rock star.

Despite this, Joy Behar Tuesday, while filling in for Eliot Spitzer on Al Gore's farce of a network Current TV, actually whined to her guests, "I haven't seen any indication that [Mitt Romney] is coming on The View" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

HuffPo, The View Blame Sexism, Politics for Vatican Denunciation of Nun’s Book

By Scott Robbins | June 08, 2012 | 14:26

A  A

American liberals continue to be clueless (willfully or otherwise) as to the nature and purpose of the Catholic Church and its relationship to its members. The latest proof comes in the case of theVatican’s condemnation of left-wing nun Margaret Farley’s book, “Just Love, A Framework for Christian Sexual Ethics,” which advocates gay sex and marriage, divorce, and female masturbation. These practices are contrary to Catholic theology as practiced since the beginning of Catholicism.

But the Church’s reaction to the book is, to liberals, another example of the Vatican stifling women. Here’s how one Sarah O’Leary described it in the Huffington Post: “Sister Margaret A. Farley, a scholarly woman of faith who taught Christian Ethics at Yale University and served as president of the Catholic Theological Society of America, is being brought to the woodshed by Rome for penning "Just Love.” How dare she use her God given gifts of cognition to share her educated point of view with the world!”

Noel Sheppard and Dana Loesch Discuss the N-word With CNN's Don Lemon

By Noel Sheppard | April 17, 2012 | 00:45

As NewsBusters previously reported, CNN's Don Lemon two Saturdays ago advocated journalists actually say the N-word in news reports rather than the more politically correct, sanitized version we've grown accustomed to in recent years.

On Sunday, I chatted with Lemon about this issue - along with Big Journalism's Dana Loesch - on CNN Newsroom (video follows with transcript and lengthy commentary):

The View's Behar Defends Hilary Rosen's Attack on Ann Romney

By Jeffrey Meyer | April 12, 2012 | 13:01

A  A

On Thursday’s episode of The View Joy Behar did what she does best: defend the indefensible.  The ladies of the show were responding to comments made by Democratic donor and PR guru Hilary Rosen, who on CNN Wednesday said regarding Ann Romney, “His wife has actually never worked a day in her life. She's never really dealt with the kind of economic issues that a majority of women in this country are facing.”

The ultra-liberal Behar couldn’t resist the opportunity to attack Mrs. Romney by saying that, “whenever the wife of a politician, very few of them actually work for a living. And she’s talking about economic issues -- she's not the one who's putting bread on the table as millions of women are doing.”  [See video below.  MP3 audio here.]

Lib Comedian Joy Behar Mocks Bristol Palin’s Resolve to Practice Abstinence

By Josh St. Louis | April 06, 2012 | 11:20

A  A

During a segment on the April 5 edition of The View, the panel was discussing Bristol Palin’s new reality TV show about Palin moving in with her boyfriend and her decision to practice abstinence until marriage.

While the rest of the panel wanted to have a serious discussion about the show and on the issue of abstinence in general, Behar took the opportunity to doubt Bristol’s decision and to make light of the situation. Behar, who delights in mocking conservative politicians and their families, appears to have no “off switch” when it comes to discussing serious issues. [Audio here, video after the jump]

Laura Ingraham Busts The View: When Ed Schultz Called Me a Slut Barbara Walters 'Laughed it Off'

By Noel Sheppard | March 06, 2012 | 11:45

As NewsBusters reported Monday, the ladies of ABC's The View were tremendously sympathetic to Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke's tale of woe and misery having been called a "slut" by conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Yet as Laura Ingraham pointed out on Tuesday's Fox & Friends, her being called a "slut" by MSNBC's Ed Schultz last year was a source of great amusement on The View with Barbara Walters acknowledging to great laughter, "Joy Behar on this program has called me a slut" (videos follow with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Crew of 'The View' Trash Pope, Social Conservatives as 'Inhumane' and 'Un-Christian'

By Tim Graham | January 12, 2012 | 09:07

A  A

On Tuesday's edition of The View on ABC, the ladies once again held a completely unanimous liberal discussion on gay marriage, with the alleged conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck leading the denunciation of social conservatives, including Pope Benedict. On Monday, Pope Benedict spoke up for the family, based on the marriage of a man and a woman, but nowhere in the address did he actually discuss the concept of gay marriage. It was more of a pro-life message.

But no one at The View reads original transcripts. "Someone wasn't invited to Elton John's wedding," Joy Behar joked. “Someone’s ticked off.”  Hasselbeck chimed in. "I think a big mistake that people make, in saying that something works against humanity to me seems quite inhumane. I was raised Catholic, I consider myself Christian now, but I’ll probably get some letters after today," Hasselbeck said. [Video follows]

Whoopi Goldberg: Communism Is 'a Great Concept' That 'Makes Perfect Sense' on Paper

By Scott Whitlock | December 20, 2011 | 18:40

According to "The View's" Whoopi Goldberg, communism is a "great concept" that "makes perfect sense" on paper. The comedienne and co-host made the rather astounding comment on Tuesday while discussing the death of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il.

After mentioning the background of new leader Kim Jong Un and his education at a Swiss boarding school, Goldberg proclaimed, "...If you say that this is how our culture is and then you send your child to a Swiss boarding school. You know, this is what happens with communism. It's a great concept. On paper it makes perfect sense." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]

Goldberg began by ranting about the absence of people who "want to see the country do better." Goldberg:

Bachmann Disappointed NBC’s Fallon Apology Came from VP and Not President of Network

As NewsBusters reported Thursday, NBC apologized to Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) for the offensive song that was played as she walked onto the stage to be a guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Monday.

Unfortunately, as Bachmann told radio’s Steve Malzberg guest-hosting for Jeff Bolton on KLIF in Texas Friday, that apology came from a vice president of programming and not NBC’s president (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Barbara Walters Insists Weiner Should Stay and Be The Next Bill Clinton

By Eric Ames | June 09, 2011 | 17:45

A  A

If disgraced New York congressman Anthony Weiner needs a shoulder to cry on, he now has one in journalist Barbara Walters, who on Thursday’s edition of The View proposed that Weiner should not resign.  “He was a good congressman, and maybe he can weather this all and be effective.”

Walters (who blabbed in her memoirs that she had an affair with a married politician) hoped Weiner could become another heroic Clinton: "we had a president named Bill Clinton who went through a great deal of trouble, weathered the storm and is now not only respected, but he's beloved by many people with a very good marriage."
