Thom Hartmann

Thom Hartmann Doesn't Want Any President Guided By Religion. Except, of Course, Obama.

By Jack Coleman | January 12, 2012 | 17:25

President Obama is pursuing policies that "define all the world's major religions," Thom Hartmann gushes. Which no president should ever do, Thom Hartmann warns.

The liberal radio host tried to pass off this apparent contradiction during conversations with callers to his show on Jan. 5 (audio clips after page break)

Socialist Thom Hartmann Lectures Caller: Capitalism a Cancer, Libertarianism Corrupts

By Tim Graham | January 04, 2012 | 19:58

On Tuesday, liberal radio host Thom Hartmann engaged a conservative caller who was tired of the anti-capitalist rhetoric from President Obama and the left. “From the president’s own mouth, the anti-capitalist rhetoric is so poisoned,” said the caller.

Hartmann interrupted: “It is rhetoric in opposition to the excesses of unregulated capitalism. Unregulated capitalism can become a cancer just like unregulated growth in a cell is the definition of cancer.” Hartmann went on to say that libertarian notions are corrupting government, and that the Founding Fathers were for “general welfare” exactly like Franklin Roosevelt.

Thom Hartmann Calls Rep. Paul Ryan a 'Sociopath'

By Tim Graham | December 19, 2011 | 15:50

Always prepare to giggle when someone calls a conservative a "sociopath" and then says "I use that word very, very, very carefully."

On Thursday's edition of the Thom Hartmann show, the leftist radio host suggested Rep. Paul Ryan -- a runner-up in Time's Person of the Year considerations -- is a sociopath, just like Ted Bundy, but without the dead women. A caller was complaining that Sen. Ron Wyden stooped low enough to make Medicare plans with Ryan, and Hartman replied with his armchair diagnosis:

Thom Hartmann: Jesus Is a Liberal, Asking Retailers to Use the Word 'Christmas' Is 'Promoting Blasphemy'

By Tim Graham | December 07, 2011 | 21:46

The American Family Association is conducting a “Naughty or Nice” campaign noting which major retailers sound hostile in avoiding Christmas in their seasonal sales. Somehow, on his Monday program, leftist radio host Thom Hartmann yelled that this made him sick and that the AFA is “promoting blasphemy.” He threw the B-word repeatedly.

Citing the Gospel of Matthew, Hartmann also insisted that Christianity and welfare statism are synonymous, and that the House Republicans are terrible Christians because they propose “Oh, we’ve got to cut these social safety net programs – which is the essence of what Jesus Christ said you’ve gotta do to get into Heaven! And instead replace them with tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.” Hartmann began by asserting the AFA thinks Jesus is a liar, but the AFA’s Bryan Fischer drove Hartmann crazy by refusing to take the bait and fight:

Just Another Day of Vicious Left-Wing Talk Radio Hits on Gingrich

By Tim Graham | December 02, 2011 | 23:08

On Thursday, December 1, several left-wing radio talkers viciously attacked Newt Gingrich, the GOP front-runner. There is a special toxicity level they reach when talking of the former House speaker.

Take Randi Rhodes, who mocked his appearance: "He always looks like a corpse that was pulled out of a lake! Every time I watch CSI and they pull somebody out of the lake, I think, hey, is that Newt? No, it's this week's murder victim. He's bloated and a massive mutiliated middle aged flesh curtain hanging!" Then take Mike Malloy, who compared Newt to an ax murderer and railed against his bad breath:

Wacky Thom Hartmann: Networks Were Forbidden Since Reagan to Talk of Poverty, Inequality

By Tim Graham | November 11, 2011 | 22:55

Listening to liberal talk radio is sometimes like just listening to the world being turned upside down. Liberal hosts make claims that are demonstrably ridiculous, and expect listeners to lap it up.

Case in point: Thom Hartmann praised the Occupy Wall Street protesters for changing the media conversation. He claimed that ever since Reagan was elected, the media has forbidden any discussion of the maldistribution of wealth, as if the words "Decade of Greed" weren't a media favorite, as if the "three million homeless" weren't routinely on the lips of liberal media personalities:

Thom Hartmann Says Broadcasting 'Dumb' Quotes From Wall Street Protesters is 'Media Crime'

By Jack Coleman | October 05, 2011 | 19:37

And if you laughed at those remarks, you're a criminal too. Or at the very least, a thought criminal. Yes, you.

Liberal radio host Thom Hartmann is peeved that media outlets such as Fox News and CNN are covering the so-called Occupy Wall Street movement and allegedly interviewing only the most "politically unsophisticated" protesters, after searching all of nanoseconds to find them. (audio after page break)

Thom Hartmann: Conservatives Are 'Powerful Strain of Anti-Americanism'

By Tim Graham | August 30, 2011 | 21:59

Leave it to Thom Hartmann, the liberal radio host, to assert that conservative Republicans are un-American, because apparently, unless you love Big Government, you're not very American. He not only said that on Monday's show. He asserted that if there were such a thing as a "sentient deity" he would be urgently send us the message "Stop pumping carbon into your atmosphere!"

Is it any wonder they can't make liberal radio a ratings smash? Here's the "powerful strain of anti-Americanism" rant:

What, the Frack? Thom Hartmann Blames Earthquake on Fracking for Gas

By Tim Graham | August 25, 2011 | 21:57

Brian Maloney at Radio Equalizer offered the latest in liberal earthquake conspiracy theories: liberal radio host Thom Hartmann has found the cause, and it is "fracking" for natural gas. This is becoming a pet cause on the left, leading some to sue fracking energy companies for earthquake damage.

Maloney began with sarcasm: "Thank goodness our 'progressive friends are a go-to source on 'science,' a subject we conservatives adamantly oppose." Hartmann doesn't care if you call him a conspiracy theorist:

Thom Hartmann Props Up Liberal Myth That Reagan Deemed Government 'Evil'

By Jack Coleman | July 05, 2011 | 14:36

Liberals are insistent that conservatives quote the Second Amendment in its entirety, with emphasis on its first clause -- "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Liberals are more cavalier when it comes to quoting one of Ronald Reagan's most famous remarks, from his first inaugural address, invariably neglecting to include its first clause -- "In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem."

Yet another example of selective editing of the Great Communicator's views on government came on Friday from liberal radio host Thom Hartmann when he said this about Reagan while talking with a caller (audio here; video clip after page break) --

RFK Jr. Claims Air America Was More Popular Than Conservative Radio

By Jack Coleman | June 25, 2011 | 21:46

... which helps explain why conservative radio continues to dominate the airwaves while Air America Radio, uh, went kaput.

During a recent appearance on Tavis Smiley's PBS show, enviro lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose "Ring of Fire" show ran on Air America, made what reasonable souls among us might construe as a questionable claim.

Here's Kennedy responding to a question from Smiley on how liberals can better hone their message (video clip after page break) --

Thom Hartmann: 'The Job Creators Are the People on Welfare'

By Tim Graham | June 22, 2011 | 05:41

Sometimes, it can be heartwarming to listen to the radio and hear the sound of the Seventies. That's not true for the Thom Hartmann radio show. On Friday, Hartmann parlayed some classic 1971 socialist economics about who should get credit for the economic recovery:

The job creators are the people on welfare. The job creators are the people who are on unemployment. They’re the people who are working. Because what creates jobs is when people take money out of their pocket and buy something. And when enough people buy enough things that creates demand in the economy and somebody’s got to make the stuff that’s being bought and in order to make that stuff they have to hire people who can make it for less than it costs to sell it so that they can make a profit on that. It’s a very very simple concept.

Radio Mud: Thom Hartmann Responds to Weiner With Old Enquirer Boehner Story

By Tim Graham | June 19, 2011 | 16:43

The sour grapes were incredibly sour on the Thom Hartmann radio show on Thursday when they led off with the news that Anthony Weiner was resigning. Broadcasting live from the Netroots Nation hootenanny in Minneapolis, Hartmann went right from an admitted sex scandal to an unproven old story from last November in the National Enquirer:

Looks like Anthony Weiner’s about to step down. John Boehner’s involved in a major sex scandal. It’s all over the page of the National Enquirer. Two different women, they’re naming the women. So this is this is shades of the John Edwards revisit.

Liberal Radio Talkers Take Polls on Japan

By Tim Graham | March 17, 2011 | 06:00

Several liberal talk-radio hosts are pandering to listeners by taking polls on just how despicable Republicans are in response to the horrifying disaster in Japan and the scary nuclear-power issues. The poll at Thom Hartmann's website asks:

Will the Republicans succeed in cutting Tsunami funds?

-- Yes! You gotta give tax breaks to millionaires and the money has to come from somewhere.
-- No! Even Tea Baggers want to be safe.

Surprisingly, at the time of this writing, 57 percent picked "No." A more predictable tilt came in the Ed Schultz radio show poll:

Thom Hartmann Derides 'Sarah bin Palin' For Not Coming 'Out of Her Cave'

By Jack Coleman | January 14, 2011 | 07:38

Agreed, the parallels between Palin and bin Laden are uncanny. To say nothing of women appearing so frequently to speak on behalf of al Qaeda.

If liberals have a strong case against Palin, why do they say such stupid things about her? (audio) --

HARTMANN: (After music at start of segment, "Give Peace a Chance," from bellicose pacifist John Lennon):  Sarah Palin. She hasn't come out of her cave up there in Alaska. Sarah bin Palin, should we call her? But she has issued a video!

What makes Hartmann's criticism on his radio show Wednesday all the more peculiar is that it came after Palin released her seven-minute video statement on liberals' unhinged reaction in according blame for the rampage in Tucson.

Thom Hartmann: Gingrich, Palin, 'Whole Right-Wing Crazy Train' Threatens Our Soldiers

By Tim Graham | September 12, 2010 | 08:30

On August 31, liberal talk radio host Thom Hartmann complained that the Obama White House needs to "stop taking seriously every feigned outrage of the right" like the Ground Zero mosque. A few minutes later, he unloaded:
[Gingrich is] willing to sell out our country. He's willing to see Americans die...He's putting our soldiers at risk. Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, the whole right-wing crazy-train bunch of them, Glenn Beck...the right-wing hate machine on...talk radio. They are willing to see...another [terrorist] attack in an American city. In fact, I think, frankly, they would love it 'cause they could blame it on Obama.
Why is it that every time conservatives question a radical Muslim imam like the Ground Zero imam, it's now putting our soldiers at risk?

Liberal Talk Show Host Thom Hartmann Says It’s Time for Gay 'Reparations'

By Jeff Poor | August 06, 2010 | 06:46

It's one thing to have liberal guilt, but this is taking it way too far.

In a video posted to YouTube on Aug. 5, popular liberal talk host Thom Hartmann, identified what he considered was the appropriate way to cope with this guilt type, specifically that of which came with the issue of LGBT rights. Hartmann hails himself as "the 10th most important talk show host in America, and the No. 1 most important progressive host, in their ‘Heavy Hundred' ranking" according to Talkers Magazine.

Hartmann laid out the reasoning chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker used in an Aug. 4 ruling that overturn California's Proposition 8 gay marriage ban, a ballot initiative approved by over 7 million voters in 2008. Then he added his own unique solution.

"Well yesterday, Judge Vaughn Walker, the chief judge of the U.S. District Court in San Francisco, ruled that California's Proposition 8, which said that it was illegal for gays to get married in that state, was unconstitutional," Hartmann said. "He said that he based his ruling, although the right-wing is all over him for being gay himself - he said he based his ruling on the preponderance of scientific evidence that was presented to him in court, which indicated that the children of families of gay couples grew up every bit as normal, and in fact in some studies more normal and healthy, psychologically healthy, as the children of straight families and that gay couples and their relationships are every bit as psychologically, and socially, and economically significant and legitimate as are straight couples."

Bozell Column: Obama the Gipper?

By Brent Bozell | July 13, 2010 | 22:57

The Political Left is in a meltdown. There’s no way to sugarcoat the calamity. It is falling apart. It sees the tide has turned and a possible tsunami is building, ready to crest and explode in November, washing all their dreams away. How could this be happening to them?

Could it be that trillion dollar disaster otherwise know as the “stimulus,” that emergency measure needed to save the economy by creating millions of jobs except it’s accomplished absolutely nothing except putting our grandchildren yet another trillion dollars in debt? Or the auto company takeovers, something no one wanted and Congress never authorized as part of the TARP bailout fund? Or the appointment of one radical after another to nanny-state us all, including now the just recess-appointed Dr. Donald Berwick to oversee ObamaCare, a Marxist who proudly calls for the redistribution of wealth and who absolutely adores Britain’s onerous National Health Service, rationing and all? Or any one of a thousand other radical ventures proposed/discussed/enacted by this radical leftist regime?

Nah.

Essay: Newsweek and Air America Join Forces -- Both Reputations Tarnished

By Seton Motley | March 16, 2009 | 08:12

Notes: This first appeared in today's Human Events.   We first reported this on March 11th.

A Gust of Hot Air (America)

It's official -- what we the sentient public, doctor and dentist patients in waiting rooms across America and the eight diehards still subscribing have long known: Newsweek is a horrendously biased left-wing rag.

Newsweek announced on Tuesday that they are partnering with liberal radio uber-failure Air America to syndicate their show Newsweek On Air.  They are the first outside "talent" to join with the newly rechristened Air America Media (AAM).

Longtime Newsweek On Air producer and host and Newsweek Contributing Editor David Alpern said of the conjoining, "AAM Syndication is a great partner for Newsweek On Air. We look forward to maintaining the same high-quality content, balance, and listener interest that has won our program various awards and a place on so many station schedules, some for nearly all of its 27 years on the air."

After more than a quarter century of their "balanced" programming, I would venture to guess that most of you have never heard of Newsweek On Air.  This state of anonymity will likely continue with their Air America Media partnership.  It seems they sought to collaborate with an entity whose listenership mirrors their readership - minimal and declining rapidly.

Lib Radio Host: Record Snows and Cold Caused By Global Warming

By Noel Sheppard | December 20, 2008 | 17:28

The liberal mind never ceases to amaze me.

Our nation is experiencing record snows and cold spells, and Air America host Thom Hartmann actually told his audience Friday:

What we are seeing in this cold, that has me trapped in my house here today, is that, what we are seeing is a symptom of global warming. But you wouldn't know that from the crazies on the right.

Speaking of lunacy, Hartmann was so proud of this moment in broadcast history that he created an mp3 of his explanation as to why global warming is making us all freeze to death, and not only posted it at Air America's website, but also included an embed feature if folks wanted to share his astounding stupidity with others.

As you might imagine, I do (audio embedded below the fold, h/t Tom Nelson, readers are cautioned to stow all potables and combustibles before proceeding further):
