Conservative Heavy Hitters O'Rourke, Taranto Morally Excoriate NYT's Tucson Coverage

By Clay Waters | January 20, 2011 | 09:33

Two of the conservative opinion world’s heavyweights, humorist P.J. O’Rourke and Wall Street Journal writer James Taranto, both have responded in passionate, even moral fashion to the New York Times’s often disgraceful coverage of the Tucson shootings, in which six people were killed and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was severely injured.

In their view, the Times used the tragedy to play political blame games against conservative politicians and talk show hosts. O'Rourke condemned the Times for "shameful," "ugly and offensive" reporting, while Taranto accused the Times of "reckless disregard for the truth."

First, some highlights from P.J. O’Rourke’s scathing take on the Times’ decline in the January 24 edition of The Weekly Standard, “The Times Loses It.”

PJ O'Rourke's Problem With Evolution: Look at Democrats - That's Evolved?

By Noel Sheppard | September 28, 2010 | 23:30

Since Bill Maher released a video of Christine O'Donnell saying evolution is a myth, the Left and their media minions have been falling all over themselves ridiculing the Republican senatorial candidate from Delaware.

Throwing some deliciously cold water on the attacks Tuesday was the Weekly Standard's P.J. O'Rourke.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Hardball," O'Rourke told the perilously liberal host after he showed O'Donnell's remark, "I`ve got some problems with evolution myself."

"I look around at, say, Democrats and I say, 'That`s evolved?'" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Maher: Why Didn’t Rush Die from Drugs Instead of Heath Ledger?

By Noel Sheppard | February 09, 2008 | 00:20

The hatred from supposedly compassionate and open-minded Hollywoodans is something to behold, isn't it?

After all, just imagine despising a radio talk show host so much that you would suggest, on national television, that he should die of a drug overdose.

Alas, such was the case Friday evening when HBO's Bill Maher actually asked guest P.J. O'Rourke, who was talking about Rush Limbaugh's use of the prescription drug OxyContin (disgusting question after the jump):
