After Three Years, It's Still Not His Fault: NYT's Calmes, Krugman Lament Recovery Out of Obama's Hands

By Clay Waters | June 04, 2012 | 16:03

Pity President Obama, it's not his fault; after over three years in office, he is still helpless as a newborn when it comes to changing the economy for the better. Sympathetic New York Times White House reporter Jackie Calmes teamed with Nicholas Kulish for Sunday's "Weak Economy Points To Obama’s Constraints."

The bleak jobs report on Friday predictably had heads snapping toward the White House, looking to President Obama to do something. Yet his proposed remedies only underscore how much the president, just five months before he faces voters, is at the mercy of actors in Europe, China and Congress whose political interests often conflict with his own.

NYTimes Uses Polar Bear Knut to Push Discredited Global Warming Threat

By Clay Waters | January 06, 2012 | 14:24

New York Times reporter Nicholas Kulish filed a light story from Berlin Friday on tributes to Knut, the cute, internationally famous polar bear who died last year: “In Death as in Life, Knut the Polar Bear Demands Attention.” But Kulish also included some of Al Gore’s guff about global warming driving polar bears into extinction that made good picturesbut were evetually shown to be without factual basis.

NYT Reporter Condemns Gold-Hoarding 'Dragon' Germany Proposing Path of 'Suffering' for Greece

By Clay Waters | November 17, 2011 | 09:09

New York Times Berlin bureau chief Nicholas Kulish was harsh on his hosts in his “Memo From Germany” on Wednesday, “Success and Advice Cast a Giant as a Villain, Not a Model, in Europe.” Germany’s leadership has had the gall to fix work-force rules and institute pension reforms and are insisting that bailout help for free-spending, sclerotic Greece must be contingent on similar requirements, or as Kulish calls it, “austerity and suffering.”

Aww: London Rioters, Hurt By Cuts in Social Spending, 'Lacked Hope," Says NY Times

By Clay Waters | September 29, 2011 | 08:27

European-based New York Times reporter Nicholas Kulish filed a big-think off-lead Wednesday from Madrid, “As Scorn for Vote Grows, Protests Surge Around Globe,” and became the latest Times reporter to suggest that the rioters who burned and looted shops in London for shoes and smart phones were actually impoverished outcasts engaged in political protest.

Hundreds of thousands of disillusioned Indians cheer a rural activist on a hunger strike. Israel reels before the largest street demonstrations in its history. Enraged young people in Spain and Greece take over public squares across their countries.

Battlin' Joe Biden Claims He Came Under Enemy Fire in Bosnia

By Clay Waters | May 20, 2009 | 12:10

A  A

In a speech yesterday before lawmakers in Sarajevo, garrulous Vice President Joe Biden made yet another eyebrow-raising assertion: That he came under fire in Bosnia when visiting the country in 1993.

But New York Times reporter Nicholas Kulish didn't question Biden's claim (reminiscent of Hillary Clinton's debunked claim to coming under fire in Bosnia) in his Wednesday story on the vice president's visit to Sarajevo, "Biden Warns Bosnians About 'Old Patterns.'"

Mr. Biden has also been engaged on the Balkan issue since the early 1990s, when he was an outspoken advocate of the Bosnian cause. During his speech, Mr. Biden recalled his trip to the country in 1993, and how, flying in at the time, his plane was fired upon, and bombed-out homes with snipers inside could be seen.

Speaking of "old patterns" -- Biden sure got fired on a lot as a Democratic senator, didn't he? During the presidential campaign he claimed his helicopter was "forced down" in Afghanistan. (Turns out it was "forced down" by a snowstorm.)
