PBS NewsHour Boasts Venezuela Has Put Hugo Chavez In an 'Immortality' Club with Jesus Christ

By Tim Graham | March 10, 2013 | 00:06

A  A

On Friday, the PBS NewsHour featured a story titled "A 'Celebration of Immortality' for Hugo Chavez." This is an odd title for liberals who believe in science and would know when Hugo Chavez has assumed room temperature.

But it grew worse: the segment from former BBC correspondent Matt Frei (now with ITN) actually put Chavez in a "top three" of immortality with Jesus Christ:

Chris Matthews' Entire British Panel Corrects His Claim Blair Was Closer to Clinton - No, It Was Bush

By Noel Sheppard | April 24, 2011 | 16:18

A  A

There was a marvelous moment on this weekend's "Chris Matthews Show" when the host literally stuck his foot in his mouth claiming in front of four British journalists that former Prime Minister Tony Blair "was much closer emotionally and politically to Bill Clinton" than George W. Bush.

Guest's Andrew Sullivan of the Daily Beast and Gillian Tett of the Financial Times both immediately shook their heads as the BBC's Katty Kay and Matt Frei said "No" and "Wrong" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

On BBC, Richard Dreyfuss Laments America's 'Delusionary Despair' Since JFK's Death

By Ken Shepherd | February 04, 2011 | 17:03

In a recent interview with Matt Frei for BBC Radio 4's  January 30 "Americana" program, liberal actor Richard Dreyfuss complained that America has been downcast with a "delusionary despair" since the day his hero President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

"I don't think we'll ever grow up until we face the anguish and face the loss of what we felt that day," Dreyfuss lamented.

Andrew Sullivan on BBC Radio 4: Palin Represents 'An America That Is Definitionally White'

By Ken Shepherd | November 09, 2010 | 12:55

A  A

"Sarah Palin represents an America this is absolutely, definitionally white, that's very much rural America."

That's how The Atlantic's Andrew Sullivan summed up the former Alaska governor in his appearance on the November 7 BBC Radio 4 "Americana" program.

Echoing  Peter Jennings' infamous description of the 1994 midterms, the liberal British-born blogger added of 2010 voters that they had "had a panic, a tantrum."

For his part,  Washington-based "Americana" host Matt Frei  reinforced Sullivan's analysis, labeling Palin the "Evita of the North" and generally failed to question Sullivan's analysis.

Scarborough: Rahm Fired as White House Chief of Staff 'Over the Next Year'

By Jeff Poor | December 21, 2009 | 09:26

A  A

What politicians say to get elected can come back to haunt them and vilifying the lobbyist profession to score campaign points is going to do that to President Barack Obama, according to MSNBC "Morning Joe" co-anchor Joe Scarborough.

Scarborough appeared on BBC Radio 4's Dec. 20 broadcast of "Americana" with host Matt Frei and explained how Obama's 2007 pledge to not hire lobbyists isn't necessarily a good policy.

"Listen, the Obama administration is in trouble right now," Scarborough said. "We got a lot of friends in the Obama administration right now and they're in trouble because Barack Obama made promises during the 2008 campaign that he would not allow lobbyists to work in his White House. Well sometimes you want lobbyists working in your White House. You want lobbyists working in Congress. You want lobbyists working for the city of Houston, Texas, because you don't get that job as lobbyist because you got a good smile. You get the job as lobbyist because you understand an issue better than everybody else."
