FNC's Powers: 'Transparently a Lie' When Obama Says He Called Benghazi a Terrorist Attack

By Brad Wilmouth | May 16, 2013 | 18:14

A  A

On Wednesday's The O'Reilly Factor, liberal FNC political analyst Kirsten Powers again accused President Barack Obama of speaking "lies" in claiming that he called Benghazi a terrorist attack early on. Host Bill O'Reilly introduced the segment by playing a clip of Powers from Monday's Special Report with Bret Baier. Powers, from Monday:

Kirsten Powers on Benghazi: 'Bill Clinton Would Not Have Gotten Away With This'

By Noel Sheppard | May 11, 2013 | 17:47

A  A

Kirsten Powers said something Saturday that should deeply embarrass so-called journalists across the fruited plain.

Appearing on Fox News Watch, Powers - who was Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Public Affairs in the Clinton administration - said of the job the current White House is doing with the Benghazi cover up, "Bill Clinton would not have gotten away with this" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Rep. Blackburn: Why Won't Media Cover 'One of the Most Tragic Murder Stories of Our Time?'

By Randy Hall | May 10, 2013 | 18:01

A  A

During an interview with MRCTV, U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, asked what has become one of the most common questions across the country: Why won't the mainstream media give the murder trial of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell the coverage it deserves?

“We're talking about people being murdered,” she declared. Is the lack of attention “because we’re talking about poor women in minority neighborhoods, or is it because the media is trying to protect the abortion business?”

FNC's Powers Slams Dem Behavior in Benghazi Hearings

By Brad Wilmouth | May 09, 2013 | 18:47

A  A

Appearing on Wednesday's The O'Reilly Factor, left-leaning FNC political analyst Kirsten Powers criticized the behavior of Democrats in the wake of the Benghazi hearings in Congress, as she cited the testimony of official Gregory Hicks as compelling. After complaining about Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings's reaction to the testimony, she continued:

Kirsten Powers: Abortion Rights Movement Is 'The NRA Of The Left'

By Matt Vespa | May 06, 2013 | 12:23

A  A

Kirsten Powers at Daily Beast made a shocking comparison – legislatively speaking – concerning the Gosnell trial and the abortion rights movement in her column today.  They’ve become “the NRA of the left," the liberal but pro-life Democrat charges.

To her buddies on the Left, those are meant to be fighting words. There is no greater insult for liberals than to be compared to the National Rifle Association, the nation's oldest civil rights organization founded in 1871.

Abortionist Complains to Maddow That Pro-Lifers Have Worsened ‘Stigma’ Toward Abortion

By Jack Coleman | April 30, 2013 | 19:19

A  A

Back in the mid-1990s I went to a public forum in Boston to hear ex-adman Earl Shorris talk about his new book, "A Nation of Salesmen: The Tyranny of the Market and the Subversion of Culture."

In one of his many anecdotes on working in advertising, Shorris told of being hired by Nestle after it was discovered that one of their infant formulas was sickening and killing newborns in Africa. What should we do, a nervous Nestle's exec asked Shorris. "Stop killing babies," he suggested. For this Shorris was dubbed the "conscience of the company." (Video after page break)

Kirsten Powers Rips Virtual Media Blackout of Gosnell Trial

By Tom Blumer | April 12, 2013 | 23:41

A  A

In a USA Today column Thursday evening, liberal Fox News political analyst Kirsten Powers took the establishment press to task for its failure to give more than cursory attention to the trial of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell. Life News reminded its readers today that Gosnell "faces 43 criminal counts, including eight counts of murder in the death of one patient, Karnamaya Monger, and seven newborn infants." It excerpted an Associated Press story earlier today which may be a harbinger of a long overdue change in the amount and scope of trial coverage. We'll see.

If there's a change, it may partially be because of sharp criticisms leveled by Powers (links are in original; bolds are mine):

Four Reasons Why Media Isn't Covering Gosnell Mass Murder Trial

By Jill Stanek | April 11, 2013 | 17:31

A  A

Living in Chicago, I've observed press coverage up close on three of the most notorious mass murderers ever apprehended: Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, and Richard Speck.

Speck tortured, raped, and murdered eight student nurses in Chicago in 1966. Dahmer murdered 17 boys and men in the Milwaukee/Chicago area between 1978-1991, keeping and eating some of their body parts. Gacy raped and murdered at least 33 boys and men between 1972-1978, burying many in the crawl space of his Chicago suburban home.

In each case the press tripped over themselves to recount every morbid detail, anxious to feed the public's fascination with the macabre (click to enlarge)...

MSNBC Replays Rubio Water Sip 155 Times in One Day, Far More Than CNN and Fox News Combined

By Randy Hall | February 15, 2013 | 16:49

A  A

The liberal hosts on MSNBC  just couldn't get enough of watching U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio reach for a glass of water and take a sip during his rebuttal of President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, airing the snippet a staggering 155 times during the Wednesday broadcast schedule, according to a tally by the Daily Caller.

Other cable news networks showed the footage far less often. CNN aired it 34 times, and Fox News Channel played it just 12 times -- all of which took place on “The O’Reilly Factor” and “Hannity” while the hosts discussed the media's obsession with the Florida Republican's “watergate” incident.

Kirsten Powers Rips Obama's State of the Union Speech, Fawning Press in USA Today Column

By Tom Blumer | February 13, 2013 | 21:49

A  A

Kirsten Powers is definitely liberal, but not blind.

Here's her take on President Obama's State of the Union speech last night as expressed in her Wednesday USA Today column, with an added bonus of a delicious potshot at the sycophantic press: "It was so hackish, so devoid of any theme or purpose, that it makes one wonder whether part of Obama just wants to see how bad he can be before his cultists in the news media can see it." Obviously, from reaction seen at various NewsBusters posts today (here, here, here, and here), the cultists are still mesmerized. More from Powers's good by hardly error-free column is after the jump (bolds are mine):

Kirsten Powers: Liberal Media 'Don't Really Care About Human Rights' Unless 'It Helps Them Politically'

By Noel Sheppard | February 06, 2013 | 18:45

It's been nothing less than astonishing watching the media cover for Monday's leaked Department of Justice memo making the legal case for drone attacks against Americans.

Exposing the hypocrisy of this Wednesday was one of Fox News's liberal contributors Kirsten Powers who said of her colleagues on the left, "They're clearly hypocrites. They clearly don't really care about human rights. They only care if it helps them politically" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Kirsten Powers Rips Obama and His Administration For Its 'Strategy to Delegitimize' Fox News

By Tom Blumer | January 29, 2013 | 12:32

A  A

In a column which went up this morning, Fox News Political Analyst Kirsten Powers, whose political positions certainly lean left and is a self-described liberal, ripped into President Obama and his administration for what she correctly characterizes as their "strategy to delegitimize a news organization" -- hers.

Her column is about far more than Obama's recent complaint to the New Republic's Chris Hughes (covered by Noel Sheppard at NewsBusters) that "If a Republican member of Congress is not punished on Fox News or by Rush Limbaugh for working with a Democrat on a bill of common interest, then you'll see more of them doing it." What Powers recounts is a strategy first employed in 2009 and apparently being revived, now that Obama no longer has to answer to America's voters, to marginalize the only U.S. network which still tries to be fair and balanced (bolds are mine):

As NewsBusters has been reporting all day, CBS's 60 Minutes on Sunday gave a gushing and fawning interview to President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that should be an embarrassment to the network.

On Fox News's America's Newsroom Monday, left-leaning contributor Kirsten Powers said of this fiasco, "It really was something you would expect from like the state-run media...60 Minutes was transparently being used as a campaign advertisement" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Kirsten Powers: ‘We Need to Hire Grown-ups to Cover the President’

By Randy Hall | January 26, 2013 | 14:00

A  A

Despite her liberal beliefs, FNC commentator Kirsten Powers has really distinguished herself by her willingness to tell the truth about America's media elite which has moved from being a legion of skeptics into a team of cheerleaders during the presidency of Barack Obama.

Earlier this week, Powers acknowledged the discomfort that many statists feel when confronted by conservative beliefs because their dominance of the media prevents them from being exposed to such thinking. Yesterday, Powers continued taking on the media saying that the White House press corps is “juvenile and amateurish” in how they cover Obama and swoon over his every move. Dear Media, Accurately Portraying Muslim Rage as Muslim Rage is Not Islamophobic

By Rusty Weiss | September 18, 2012 | 21:39

A  A

This week we learned what really gets the liberal media in a ... well ... rage.  It isn't the act of perpetrating violence upon the innocent.  No, it's calling out that rage for everyone to see.  In Liberal Land, words speak louder than actions.

The media on the left side of the aisle took more umbrage with a Newsweek article titled, Muslim Rage, than they did with the incidents that demonstrated that rage - the killing of four Americans in Libya, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, and the hoisting of Islamist flags on sovereign U.S. soil. Outlets like Think Progress called the Newsweek cover, which featured an image of a group of obviously agitated Muslims, Islamophobic. Newsweek for their part did not apologize for their portrayal of events in the Middle East saying:

FNC's Kirsten Powers Slams 'Utterly Insane' Media 'Obsession' With Attacking Romney

By Kyle Drennen | September 13, 2012 | 17:25

A  A

Appearing on Fox News's America Live on Thursday, Daily Beast columnist and Democratic pundit Kirsten Powers ripped the liberal media for expressing more outrage over Mitt Romney's reaction to Tuesday's embassy attacks, than toward the attackers themselves: "I mean, it is just absolutely utterly insane the way that they have elevated this." [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

Powers worried that the blatant bias had "overshadowed any kind of outrage that you would see over the fact that you have Islamic flags being hoisted over American embassies, the fact that an American ambassador is dead."

FNC's Powers Sees 'Glaring' Media 'Double Standard' on Biden Gaffes

Liberal Pundit Powers Explains to Hannity Why Liberals Deploy Double Standard on Anti-Woman Comments

By Ken Shepherd | March 06, 2012 | 16:33

A  A

The reason there's a double standard in the media when it comes to conservative versus liberal media personalities making offensive statements about women in politics, Kirsten Powers posited on last night's edition of "Hannity," is because attacking conservatives is a "proxy war" that aids liberal Democrats.

The liberal writer appeared on the March 5 Fox News program to discuss her March 4 Daily Beast post  wherein she blasted the media for fixating exclusively on Rush Limbaugh "slut" comments about Sandra Fluke whilehaving consistently failed to call out liberal journalists, pundits and the like for their misogynistic comments (video posted after page break; MP3 audio here).

FNC's Powers: Media See Planned Parenthood as 'Humanitarian' Group That 'No One Can Ever Criticize or Question'

Liberal Columnist Kirsten Powers Slams Biden 'One-Child' Remark

Joe Biden's recent remark in which he said he "fully understand[s]" China's reasons for their 32-year-old one-child policy is an absolutely "appalling statement coming from an American leader."

"What’s next? Will he say he isn’t 'second-guessing' and 'fully understands' that women are stoned for adultery in Iran?"

Who said that? Michele Bachmann? Sarah Palin? Rick Santorum? Nope. Former Democratic strategist and political columnist Kirsten Powers in a post at the Daily Beast yesterday.
