One (among many) of the more stunning elements of Obamacare's six-month run thus far has been the administration's increasingly desperate ploys to get "millennials" to sign up as the sort-of enrollment deadline looms. One of the more appalling of those involved President Obama himself appearing on comedian Zach Galifianakis’ “Between Two Ferns” show and directing scripted insults at the host. Almost no one in the establishment press has commented on how stunts such as these diminish the dignity which used to be associated with the highest office in the land.
Building on that personal involvement, Saturday Night Live's opening skit last night showed several other made-up (I hope) attempts to make "Get Covered" go viral, including presidential photo and video ops with Kim Kardashian and the Pope, respectively. The final effort possibly included spreading viruses, as it required Obama to kiss Justin Bieber ... on the lips. Video of that skit (obvious warning to those who don't would rather not see the final act: stop the tape) follows the jump (HT the Blaze):
One of the big steps in winning a social or political battle these days is defining the terms to be used in the debate. Remember how an “unborn child” became an antiseptic “fetus” during the start of the abortion debate? And how left-wingers now call themselves “progressives” since George H. W. Bush turned “liberal” into a slur during his 1988 presidential campaign?
According to a Thursday post by Daily Beast Washington reporter Michelle Cottle, the latest example of this principle is the Family Research Council's use of the phrase “natural marriage” instead of “traditional marriage,” a move to change the terms of the debate because the conservative organization had been “getting its butt kicked.”
Cable News Network president Jeff Zucker used his keynote address at the RealScreen Summit in Washington, D.C., on Monday to promote his “new vision” for CNN that he said has expanded beyond reporting breaking news while including documentaries and films in its programming, which he described as “more shows, less newscasts.”
“We’re never going to stray from breaking news,” Zucker stated before noting that CNN “provides more news coverage on a daily basis than any other TV network in America” while broadening out “our offerings to the public, and we have moved into the nonfiction world with some success thus far.”
In a Thursday front page New York Times story it was reported that Friends of Abe, a group made up of Hollywood conservatives like actors Gary Sinise and Kelsey Grammer, became the latest right-leaning group to be targeted by the IRS. Total Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) network time spent on this story: zero seconds.
However there was a celebrity news story the Big Three news networks did jump all over -- Justin Bieber getting arrested for drunk driving. From Thursday morning through Friday morning the Big Three networks, on their evening and morning shows, devoted a total of 36 minutes and 10 seconds to the troubled pop star.
TV Guide posted an article headlined “Justin Bieber's Downward Spiral: A Timeline of Bad Behavior.” Sadie Gennis began: “Bieber has become the poster child for paparazzi attacks, partying and reckless driving — a far cry from the innocent, devoutly Christian singer he was six years ago. So what happened?”
She added, “Check out our timeline of The Biebs' downward spiral and figure out what went wrong.” Bizarrely, TV Guide listed Bieber’s pro-life remarks to Rolling Stone magazine on its “timeline of bad behavior”:
As NewsBusters reported Sunday, Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank believes scholars in the future will be shocked by the number of F-bombs dropped by the Obama administration.
Considering the number of identical vulgarities proudly spoken without any hesitation by actress Olivia Wilde on NBC’s Tonight Show Tuesday, maybe present day scholars should be talking about how much all this public profanity - by women nonetheless! - is impacting the society (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):
The media’s love affair with Hillary Clinton has gotten completely unhinged.
During a pre-taped Valentine’s Day sketch aired on NBC’s Saturday Night Live this weekend, popstar Justin Bieber took a picture of his penis and emailed it to the former Secretary of State (video follows with transcript and commentary):
On Wednesday's NBC Today, fill-in news anchor Savannah Guthrie shared this important presidential news with viewers: "And it's the last day of the President's bus tour through North Carolina and Virginia but it hasn't been all business for the commander in chief. At a Virginia high school he sparked a giggle-fest and even managed to break some hearts." [Audio available here]
A clip followed of a group of teenage girls asking Obama if he knew singer Justin Bieber. The President said that he did, but that Bieber had a girlfriend. Guthrie then remarked: "Oh, look at those faces....The President crushing Bieber fever one teenager at a time." [View video after the jump]
The children had been invited to an already scheduled meeting between Bieber and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the prime minister sought to draw attention to the plight of children living in Israeli towns near the Gaza Strip which have in recent months come under increased fire from rockets launched by Palestinian terrorists.
According to Haaretz, Netanyahu canceled the meeting after his attempt to include the children was turned down.
Justin Bieber, who regularly tells anyone who will listen to never say never, has done just that. In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, the singer asserted that he never plans on becoming an American citizen. The reason? Apparently the U.S. health care system, which leads the world in the creation of cutting edge medical technology and the invention of life-saving drugs, simply doesn't measure up to "free" (but compassionate) Canadian mediocrity.
The unseen costs of liberal policies never enters the young singer's mind. It's not because his famous hair is impenetrable to basic economics, either. It's because he's lucky enough to not have required highly specialized medical care on a moment’s notice. He's fortunate to be a millionaire who can charter a private jet to whatever world-renowned U.S. hospital has a crack staff of seasoned surgeons ready to put him back together, while the average Canadian gets to pray they're treated before bureaucratic red tape literally leads to their demise.
Conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham on Wednesday took on the creator and executive producer of the hit television series "CSI" over the season premiere which featured teen heartthrob Justin Bieber as a "domestic terrorist with Tea Party leanings."
"If that’s not a drive-by hit against the Tea Party movement, then I don’t know what is," Ingraham told her guest Anthony Zuiker (audio follows with partial transcript and commentary):
A terrorist group bombs a police funeral? It must be some "patriots" upset about health care reform and our black president, or something.
That, at least, is what some viewers took away from the season premiere of CBS's hit show "CSI". The episode starred teen pop star Justin Bieber as "a domestic terrorist with Tea Party leanings," in the words of the New York Times, implicated in the bombing of a Las Vegas police officer's funeral.
In the show, a cell phone used to trigger the bomb is traced back to a group of "patriots" - those government-hating extremists the Southern Poverty Law Center keeps warning us are on the verge of waging violent revolution - that are, according to some viewers (including the Times, apparently), crude portrayals of Tea Party protesters.
