CBS Highlights Meteorologists Who Doubt Human Activity Is Causing Global Warming

By Brad Wilmouth | May 16, 2010 | 14:42

A  A

Saturday’s CBS Evening News gave attention to weather forecasters who disbelieve the theory that human creation of carbon dioxide is causing global warming. Citing a poll finding that most meteorologists believe global warming is occurring, correspondent Elaine Quijano also found that only about one-third believe human activity is causing such warming. After beginning her report by recounting the story of one meteorologist who "was skeptical that human activity was accelerating climate change until he studied the data," and who took a trip to view melting glaciers, she relayed the findings of a poll that found, unlike him, most TV weather forecasters have doubts:

He returned convinced of his position, but a recent survey shows that among his fellow weathercasters, his view is in the minority. The survey by George Mason University and the University of Texas found that while more than half of TV weathercasters believe global warming is happening, less than a third say it is caused mostly by manmade carbon emissions.

NYT: 56% Trust Weathercasters More Than Gore On Global Warming

By Noel Sheppard | March 30, 2010 | 10:10

A  A

"A study released this year by researchers at Yale and George Mason found that 56 percent of Americans trusted weathercasters to tell them about global warming far more than they trusted other news media or public figures like former Vice President Al Gore."

So wrote the New York Times's Leslie Kaufman in a rather surprising piece published Tuesday.

Shhh. Wait. It got better -- A LOT better:

Weather Channel Founder's 'Global Warming - The Other Side' Airs In San Diego

By Noel Sheppard | January 15, 2010 | 13:08

A  A

A rather remarkable thing happened Thursday: a documentary highly skeptical of man's role in global warming was aired on broadcast television.

The program, "Global Warming - The Other Side," was created and hosted by John Coleman, the founder of The Weather Channel, and debuted on San Diego's independent television station KUSI.

Readers should be familiar with Coleman as the man who not only called global warming "the greatest scam in history," but also advocated suing Nobel Laureate Al Gore to expose the fraud.

Breaking with American media's tradition of almost exclusively broadcasting programs supporting Gore's view of climate change, "The Other Side" remarkably devoted an entire hour to fully explaining what the global warming-obsessed press dishonestly hide from the public (videos in four parts embedded below the fold, h/t Climate Depot):

Weather Channel Founder's Letter to Environmentalists Re: Global Warming

By Noel Sheppard | May 04, 2008 | 11:42

A  A

Since calling global warming "the greatest scam in history," the founder of The Weather Channel John Coleman has been an outspoken advocate for climate realism.

This weekend, Coleman posted at his KUSI-San Diego blog an "Open Letter to Environmentalists" challenging them to campaign for "environmental goals on the basis of their own merit" while urging alarmists to "[l]et go of the global warming frenzy before it leaves [them] discredited and embarrassed."

Although readers are strongly encouraged to review the entire piece, here are some of the highlights:

Media Ignore Weather Channel Founder's Intent to Sue Gore for Fraud on Global Warming

By Richard Newcomb | March 14, 2008 | 13:15

A  A

Al Gore has made a lot of money and publicity with his crusade against global warming. I have written in the past how this whole crusade seems to be based on a Big Lie, and its real purpose appears more intended to get global government so the rest of the world (ie. the United Nations) can gain control over the United States' many assets without having to go through the awkward exercise of actually getting a their authority recognized by the US Congress.

However, there has been a backlash against the Gore Warming crusade (fueled partly by Gore's own hypocrisy in using large motorcades, private jets and his lavish lifestyle- none of which are designed to show others that he is serious about the entire issue. Not that the press has bothered to do any real reporting- they have fallen in line with Gore's crusade lock, stock and barrel- refusing to report on critics and making statements equating said critics with Nazis and other undesirables. However, the evidence is mounting that Gore and his global warming friends are no more accurate in their claims than Newsweek was in its new ice age campaign in the 1970s.

Weather Channel Founder: Sue Al Gore to Expose Global Warming Fraud

By Noel Sheppard | March 04, 2008 | 11:22

A  A

By now most people are aware that the founder of The Weather Channel, John Coleman, said global warming is "the greatest scam in history" last November.

On Monday, while speaking at the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change being held in New York City, Coleman took his criticisms further by advocating that all those involved in the sale and marketing of carbon credits, including Al Gore, should be sued "to finally put some light on the fraud of global warming.”

As reported over at the Business & Media Institute by my colleague Jeff Poor (emphasis added throughout, h/t to many):

Weather Channel Founder Discusses Global Warming Myth With Beck

By Noel Sheppard | November 13, 2007 | 14:24

A  A

As NewsBusters reported last Wednesday, The Weather Channel founder John Coleman published an op-ed at ICECAP in which he called "global warming the greatest scam in history."

Although this was prominently featured at the Drudge Report for almost 36 hours, the major television news media completely ignored Coleman's words with the exception of CNN and Fox News.

Really taking the lead on this matter was CNN Headline News's Glenn Beck who invited Coleman on his program Monday evening to discuss what led him to write this article, and to elaborate on the global warming myth.

Amongst other things, Coleman told Beck (absolutely must-see video availabe here):

Hypocritical Left-wing Blog Can't Decide Who's Credible on Global Warming

By Amy Ridenour | November 09, 2007 | 00:27

The Center for American Progress's Think Progress blog attacked a Noel Sheppard post on NewsBusters and a handful of other conservative blogs today. Their crime? Citing climate change comments uttered by a weatherman.

Think Progress said:

The conservative blogosphere is pushing Coleman's junk science today. Matt Drudge links to NewsBusters' "marvelous" take on Coleman this morning. Red State [sic], Qando [sic], Sister Toldjah, and the Free Republic also join in by approvingly linking to Coleman's piece.

The right wing should check Coleman's credentials before touting his "scientific" work. As Coleman admits, his "expertise" is in weather - not climate change science. In fact, he "has been a TV weatherman since he was a freshman in college in 1953."

Think Progress doesn't believe a mere "weatherman" should speak his mind on climate, but...

Weather Channel Founder: Global Warming ‘Greatest Scam in History’

By Noel Sheppard | November 07, 2007 | 18:58

A  A

If the founder of The Weather Channel spoke out strongly against the manmade global warming myth, might media members notice?

We're going to find out the answer to that question soon, for John Coleman wrote an article published at ICECAP Wednesday that should certainly garner attention from press members -- assuming journalism hasn't been completely replaced by propagandist activism, that is.

Coleman marvelously began (emphasis added, h/t NB reader coffee250):
