Jeri Thompson Slams Alan Colmes Over Media Hyping Palin Wardrobe Expenses

By Ken Shepherd | October 24, 2008 | 12:48

The wife of former GOP presidential aspirant Fred Thompson took on Alan Colmes on the October 23 broadcast. Jeri Thompson, who heads up Team Sarah, a campaign effort to get out the vote for the McCain/Palin ticket, went toe-to-toe with the liberal co-host of "Hannity & Colmes" on the matter of the media's hyping the non-scandal of the RNC's wardrobe expenses for the Alaska governor.

Mrs. Thompson has personal experience with the viciousness of the liberal media against conservative Republican women, as NewsBusters coverage about the media dismissing her as a "trophy wife" can attest.

'Today' Spouse Segment: Bill the Thrill, Thompson the Troublemaker

By Mark Finkelstein | November 17, 2007 | 09:39

A Google alert this morning brought an article about a speech in which NBC's Lester Holt claimed that he and his MSM colleagues "are perfectly capable of putting [their] personal bias aside." Holt went to state that "the level of organized attacks against news organizations from the blogosphere and even from competitors in recent years is unprecedented and disturbing."

Less than an hour later there was Holt on the Today show . . . which proceeded to run a segment typifying the very kind of bias he claims the MSM is "perfectly capable" of putting aside.

AP: Still Flogging Jeri Thompson 'Trophy Wife' Jab

By Warner Todd Huston | October 04, 2007 | 06:14

Speaking of a here-we-go-again story, the AP this morning has revived the Jeri Thompson as trophy wife story again. This is an extremely demeaning charge leveled at the wife of Fred Thompson that keeps resurfacing, over and over, in the liberal press. The thrust of the story is that she is a brainless hottie that Thompson only grabbed up because she is great arm candy. But Jeri Thompson is an accomplished and driven individual in her own right and for the MSM to continually claim she is nothing but a "trophy wife" slights her own achievements.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Jeri Thompson, wife of GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson, shakes off the ``trophy wife'' label critics have tagged her with for being 24 years younger than her husband.
Fred Thompson, for his part, has a great comeback for the constant demeaning of his beautiful wife. "Thompson said: 'I almost think they had to fabricate that trophy-wife stuff because there's nothing interesting to say.'''

ABC Reacts to Fred Thompson Entry With Boredom, Sarcasm

By Scott Whitlock | August 31, 2007 | 11:56

On Friday’s "Good Morning America," ABC’s anchors and reporters reacted to Fred Thompson’s entry in the 2008 race with negativity and sarcasm. Co-host George Stephanopoulos asserted that the former senator’s campaign is "never going to catch up on organization." Rattling off Thompson’s problems, the former Clinton aide critiqued, "But he didn't raise as much money as he’d hoped to over the summer. His speeches were a little bit flat. He had a lot of staff shake-ups."

Earlier in the segment, reporter Dan Harris pointedly mentioned the "consternation over the very active role of his wife, Jeri Thompson, a former political consultant 24 years his junior." Both Harris and Stephanopoulos speculated over whether Thompson’s entry into the race is "coming too late."

Additionally, the journalists on GMA treated the former actor’s announcement as a relatively boring, expected event. Harris jokingly asked, "Big surprise, right?" He then went on to deride Thompson’s entry into the 2008 race as "blazingly obvious."
