More Out-of-Control Identity Politics: Blacks, Latinos Concerned That a 'Non-Person of Color' Might Win NYC Council Seat

By Tom Blumer | November 28, 2012 | 21:34

A  A

In a story the New York Times appears not to have touched, Hunter Walker at Observer.com's Politicker ("about" page is here) reported on Tuesday that Thomas Lopez-Pierre, a black Harlem activist, "circulated an email" Monday night "in an attempt to plan a 'private meeting' to 'discuss the potential damage to the political empowerment of the Black and Hispanic community if Mark Levine, a White/Jewish candidate was elected to the 7th Council District in 2013.'" So we see that black Chicagoland establishment officials trying to ensure that the successor to the recently resigned Jesse Jackson Jr.  in Illinois' 2nd Congressional District are not alone in seeing a political office as somehow "belonging" to them.

The Wall Street Journal (subscription may be required) has also picked up the story ("Race, Religion Used as Basis For an Attack"). Verbiage from the Politicker report, along with separate comments from James Taranto at the WSJ's Best of the Web, follow the jump (internal links are in originals; bolds are mine throughout this post):

Daily Kos Distorts Old Scott Walker Clip to Insist He Was Soft on David Duke

By Tim Graham | May 22, 2012 | 23:18

A  A

On Daily Kos, Jesse LaGreca calls himself “Ministry of Truth.” That moniker certainly doesn’t match his latest blog post, headlined “Young Scott Walker downplays KKK Grand Dragon David Duke's extremism”.

Using a very selectively edited video, LaGreca asserts “Walker can beat up on labor rights but he couldn't bring himself to bad mouth another Republican, even if that Republican is a self avowed white supremacist.” But in the actual video, Walker attacks Duke as a neo-Nazi and compares him to cannibal killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Cal Thomas: Michele Bachmann Praise By Chris Matthews 'Like Getting Civil Rights Affirmation From David Duke'

By Noel Sheppard | June 18, 2011 | 17:13

As NewsBusters has been reporting since Monday's Republican presidential debate, MSNBC's Chris Matthews is suddenly a big fan of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann's (R-Minn.).

On Saturday's "Fox News Watch," syndicated columnist Cal Thomas said, "Chris Matthews praises her, which is sort of like getting a civil rights affirmation from David Duke" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

AP Knows Racists Secretly Want Obama to Win in Nov.

By Warner Todd Huston | August 09, 2008 | 06:49

A  A

Do you know who the Associated Press thinks is secretly hoping for a Barack Obama win? Why, it's "racist groups," dontcha know? See, as the AP reports it, a black man as president couldn't be a more perfect example of how the dark race is takin' over and ruining the white man's world, right? At least, that is according to the AP's favorite go-to racist guy, David Duke, anyway. And what better way for the AP to prove that only racists oppose Obama, eh?

AP decided to dredge up the aforementioned David Duke to let the country know that "the racists" are wringing their hands in a gleeful expectation that a president Barack will swell the ranks of the KKK and other racist groups. Sternly telling us that "They're not exactly rooting for him, but prominent white supremacists anticipate a boost to their cause if Barack Obama becomes the first black president," the AP lets the cat out of the bag for the hooded set.

Want proof? Well, the AP is happy to give it... such as it is.
