Who Knew? Sununu A Fluent Spanish Speaker

By Mark Finkelstein | August 27, 2012 | 13:02

A  A

When this NewsBuster entered a Spanish-language press conference at the Republican National Convention this morning, he was surprised to find former New Hampshire Governor and Romney surrogate John Sununu at the podium . . . holding forth in fluent Spanish.

Interviewed after his remarks, Sununu told NewsBusters that he was born in Havana and that his mother was originally from El Salvador.  "As a boy, when I was bad, my mother would chew me out in Spanish. And since I was bad a lot, I learned a lot of Spanish!" Before saying goodbye, Sununu added "I love Brent Bozell!", President of NewsBusters's parent organization, Media Research Center. View a brief clip of Sununu speaking Spanish after the jump.

Video: Bozell Slams 'Moronic' Assertion From MSNBC That Pro-life Ryan's a Worse Catholic Than Pro-Choice, Pro-Gay Marriage Biden

By NB Staff | August 24, 2012 | 10:58

A  A

"These are two of the most moronic statements I have ever heard," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell, himself a practicing Catholic, complained after watching video of MSNBC host Martin Bashir and MSNBC contributor Jimmy Williams attacking Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) as championing an "unbiblical" budget that doesn't comport to Catholic social teaching.

"Consider that one of these morons is saying that Paul Ryan's budget is unbiblical?! I mean, what book of the Bible dealt with Paul Ryan's budget?" the Media Research Center founder asked on the August 23 "Media Mash" segment, going on to note that seeing as that the Catholic Church is suing the Obama administration over the religious liberty-infringing contraception mandate, it's laughable to suggest that Joe Biden is a better Catholic. Bozell, Hannity Review Media's Attacks On Paul Ryan, Pathetic Defense of Biden's Racially-tinged 'Chains' Gaffe

By NB Staff | August 17, 2012 | 10:42

A  A

Paul Ryan is radically anti-woman, anti-senior citizen, and if he and Mitt Romney are elected and ObamaCare is repealed, people will die! That, in a nutshell, is the liberal media's spin about Gov. Romney's pick of the Wisconsin Republican as his running mate, with the latter claim being made recently by MSNBC political analyst Jonathan Alter, formerly of Newsweek.

"That sleazeball did exactly accuse Romney of murder!" NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell exclaimed on the August 16 Hannity program, adding that by Alter's logic, it would be the majority of Americans who voted for Romney's presidency who would be complicit in "murder." "Where is that talk... where is the discussion of civility? Where are those high-minded people talking about civility now?" the Media Research Center founder asked. Brent Bozell: If a Story Doesn't Help Obama, the Media Won't Cover It

By Matt Vespa | August 07, 2012 | 17:12

A  A

Ginni Thomas of The Daily Caller sat down last week with L. Brent Bozell, Founder and President of the Media Research Center, to discuss a wide variety of issues ranging from media bias to the future of the conservative movement. Bozell asserted that the most under-reported story this year will be the degree in which the media will not report news.

He explained, "There is a narrative that is evolving out there which is if the story helps Barack Obama re-election, it's news. If it doesn't, it's not news, you've seen story after story after story that has been completely spiked, on purpose, by the media."

Bozell Slams 'Shocking' Attempt By Media to 'Kneecap Mitt Romney'

By NB Staff | August 03, 2012 | 11:37

A  A

NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell appeared on Thursday night's Hannity and angrily denounced the big three networks for trashing Mitt Romney's foreign trip, what Bozell called "a clear-cut example of an agenda to kneecap" the presumptive Republican nominee. During the "Media Mash" segment, Bozell cited a new MRC report that found an astonishing 86 percent of stories about Romney's international visit wallowed in supposed "gaffes." (See Bozell's statement on the subject here.)

While in London, Romney highlighted Olympic security problems.  Bozell exposed, "The very same thing that Mitt Romney was accused of gaffing about is exactly what Brian Williams reported as news one week before." "It's shocking," the MRC president added.

Newsweek 'Wimp'-ing Out of Real Coverage of the Disastrous Obama Economy

By Ken Shepherd | July 30, 2012 | 18:23

A  A

"There is absolutely no way Barack Obama can win reelection running on his record and the news media know this," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News's Eric Bolling at the top of today's Your World with Neil Cavuto.

Newsweek's current edition, featuring the headline, "The Wimp Factor: Is he [Mitt Romney] just too insecure to be president?" is just the latest example of the media's attempt to distract the American public from the president's dismal economic record, the Media Research Center president told Bolling, who was substituting for Cavuto. 'You Didn't Build That!' Edition of Media Mash

By NB Staff | July 27, 2012 | 13:30

A  A

The media are desperately at work spinning Barack Obama's "you didn't build that" comment because it was a "complete rejection of the free enterprise system" by the president, reveal the "soul" of the administration's approach to the economy, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity during last night's "Media Mash" segment.

"It's so huge that ABC, NBC, and CBS ignored it for four days," but "one of the beautiful things about the new media" is that "you can't keep these things in the tube anymore... so the media finally had to cover it," the Media Research Center president noted. "And how did they cover it? Damage control for Barack Obama. Spin, spin, spin." [see video embedded below page break]

Bozell: Of Course Obama's the 'Perfect American' to Chris Matthews, the Media Refuse to Cover Obama's Negatives

By NB Staff | July 21, 2012 | 09:00

A  A

Of course President Obama is the "perfect American" to tingle-prone Chris Matthews, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News's Sean Hannity, because liberal media personalities like Matthews refuse to report on Obama adminstration failures and scandals.

"He makes the point that you and I have been making for months about this campaign," the Media Research Center founder noted on the July 19 Hannity. "Whether it's Tony Rezko or Jeremiah Wright or anything in Barack Obama's past, they refuse to cover it, therefore, he's clean as a whistle.... [I]f you're not going to cover anything negative, of course he's clean as a whistle." [MP3 audio here; watch the full "Media Mash" segment below the page break]

Brent Bozell, Neil Cavuto Discuss Media Ignoring, Excusing 'You Didn't Build That' Comment by Obama

By Matt Vespa | July 19, 2012 | 21:03

A  A

If Mitt Romney hadn’t brought up President Obama's "you didn't build that" crack about business owners, the mainstream media wouldn’t have reported on it, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News Channel's Neil Cavuto on his Your World program today.

"This was a bombshell story. Now look at the coverage.  You cannot-- this is a classic example of the two-sided nature of this campaign where the so-called news media are concerned," the Media Research Center founder noted.  "When Barack Obama said what he said it took NBC 94 hours before they reported it. It took ABC and CBS another 24 hours before they reported it." [MP3 audio here; watch the full segment below the page break]

Bozell: Obama's 'You Didn't Build That' Comment An 'Astonishing' Glimpse Into His Disdain for Freedom

By NB Staff | July 19, 2012 | 17:35

A  A

President Barack Obama's now-infamous "you didn't build that" line about entrepreneurs is an "astonishing" example of how the president reveals his true antipathy against the free enterprise system when he's speaking off-the-cuff sans teleprompter, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Fox Business Network anchor Stuart Varney on the July 19 edition of Varney & Co.

"This is a man who said that he wanted to redistribute wealth. This is the man who has given signs of this all throughout his administration," the Media Research Center founder added. "I'm going to stick my neck out, the last person" who attributed the success of the free enterprise system to government, not business owners, "was Karl Marx," he added. Bozell Statement: NBC News Recognizes the MSNBC Brand Is a Malignant Tumor

By Brent Bozell | July 16, 2012 | 11:09

A  A

Microsoft’s ill-advised marriage of convenience to NBC News has finally landed in divorce court, and it couldn’t have happened soon enough. Like any marriage built on a lie – in this case that MSNBC would be a legitimate news organization – it was doomed to fail.

The MSNBC brand is a tumor, corrupting everything it touches, and it’s good to see that Microsoft is finally cutting it off. Even though Microsoft untethered itself from MSNBC TV in 2005, MSNBC.com was still a stain on one of the most valuable, respected corporations in American history.

MSNBC's Selectively Edited Romney Video, Andrea Mitchell's Non-Apology Illustrate Network's Dishonesty

By Brent Bozell | June 19, 2012 | 13:41

A  A

Barack Obama’s adoring cheerleaders at NBC are back in the editing room distorting the truth, and, not surprisingly, Andrea Mitchell has the gall to make no apologies for it.

First it was their vile attempt to make George Zimmerman sound like a racist to gin up racial conflict, and now they’ve set their sights on Mitt Romney who they’re desperately trying to paint as an out-of-touch, silver spoon Republican wowed by Wawa sandwiches. Bozell, Hannity Discuss Matthews's Offer of Help to Elizabeth Warren, Ed Schultz's Changed Tune on Advertising Boycotts

By NB Staff | June 15, 2012 | 11:05

A  A

With a program entitled Hardball, MSNBC audiences should expect, well, "hardball" questions of politicians no matter what their ideological leanings, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted on the June 14 edition of Fox News Channel's Hannity. Instead, host Chris Matthews recently and quite openly confessed his eagerness to aid Democrat Elizabeth Warren's campaign to defeat Sen. Scott Walker (R-Mass.) this November.

"Let me help you on this, to the extent I, as a journalist, can help you," Matthews offered Warren on his June 13 program. [see the full video below the page break]

Bozell: It's 'Disgraceful' That Networks Ignored Obamacare Protests

By Brent Bozell | June 12, 2012 | 11:36

A  A

On Friday, conscientious Americans participated in 164 coordinated noontime rallies in support of religious freedom, but those demonstrations were ignored by the liberal broadcast media, NewsBusters contributor and Media Research Center analyst Matthew Balan noted yesterday. At the same time, networks have played up conflict over a Vatican investigation of feminist nuns. NewsBusters publisher and MRC founder Brent Bozell reacted to the double standard in a statement this morning:

The bias beat goes on, and it's getting more obvious as outrage against Obama and his mandate spreads to every corner of America. To ignore these coordinated protests across the country is bad enough. But then to hype what a few über liberal nuns and their hundreds of supporters - hundreds! - are doing to dissent against the Vatican's supposed 'inquisition' is unbearable.

Video: Hannity, Bozell Discuss New MRC Study, 'George Soros: Godfather of the Left'

By NB Staff | June 08, 2012 | 09:11

A  A

"Between 2000 and 2009, George Soros has contributed over $400 million to academic causes in this country" to push liberal "curricula that he wants taught," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted on last night's "Media Mash" segment on Fox News Channel's Hannity program. For this, Soros gets a free pass from the media, yet the conservative/libertarian Koch Brothers donations are severely scrutinized by journalists for the donations they make to academic institutions.

"The media say the Koch brothers are meddling with academic freedom when they gave $7 million, that's 1/50th of what George Soros has done," the Media Research Center (MRC) founder noted, adding that "every single Ivy League school in America gets George Soros money." Bozell was on the June 7 edition of Hannity to promote the brand-new MRC Business & Media Institute study "George Soros: Godfather of the Left." Bozell: Liberal Media Screeching in 'Desperation' As They Fear Obama Loss in November

By NB Staff | June 01, 2012 | 11:00

A  A

As the campaign season moves forward, the American people will see more "desperation" by the liberal media and President Obama as the case for his reelection grows harder to justify. "They're not seeing gravitas and they're not seeing presidential statesmanship," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity during last night's "Media Mash" segment.

Bozell was reacting to MSNBC's Ed Schultz, who took to his May 29 radio program The Ed Schultz Show to despondently whine that should Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) survive the union-backed recall effort and should Mitt Romney get elected, there would never be a Democratic president elected in his lifetime again. [watch video below page break]

NBC's Today Interviews Mexican Actor Who Stars in Religious-Liberty Film 'For Greater Glory'

By Tim Graham | May 30, 2012 | 22:56

A  A

NBC's Today on Monday featured an interview in its fourth hour with Mexican actor Eduardo Verastegui, a star in the film "For Greater Glory" which chronicles Mexico's persecution of Catholics in the 1920s. Brent Bozell has urged people to see it when it debuts this weekend.

Verastegui, who also starred in the pro-life film "Bella," explained “This film is an action epic film about the men and women who were not afraid to defend something bigger than themselves, something, you know, their faith.” Kathie Lee Gifford called the film “very moving.”  (Video and transcript below)

Obama Catholics vs. Bozell

By Tim Graham | May 29, 2012 | 06:43

A  A

Tuesday's Washington Post carries a letter to the editor opposing Brent Bozell's Post letter to the editor on Saturday. The writer is Stephanie Niedringhaus, communications coordinator for Network, a "Catholic social justice advocacy organization."

Naturally, this leftist group opposes the lawsuits against the Obama administration as a baldly political move (as if their website displays a group that's more religious than political): "There is also no denying that many Catholics believe that the bishops’ religious freedom campaign and the timing of the recent lawsuits have more to do with politics than faith. Not everyone is on board." But these people were pretty much always on board with Obama.

WashPost Columnist Sees Catholic Church As Very Conservative 'Authoritarian' Daddy vs. 'Moderate' Mommy

By Tim Graham | May 27, 2012 | 14:00

A  A

Don’t look for sophistication in The Washington Post’s coverage of the Catholic lawsuits against ObamaCare. Religion columnist Lisa Miller began on Saturday: “Mommy and daddy are fighting, and the anguished children don’t know where to turn.”

“A small group of very conservative bishops has hijacked the church, or at least the public voice of the church,” Miller complained. “The bishops are playing the role of the authoritarian father. In case after case, their message to the faithful is ‘Do it because I say so.’” Mommy, naturally, is represented as the people who support Obama or favor ongoing "dialogue" with Obama:

Brent Bozell Letter to the Editor Published in The Washington Post

By Tim Graham | May 26, 2012 | 17:48

A  A

MRC president L. Brent Bozell III had his Letter to the Editor published in Saturday's Washington Post. He objected to liberal Post columnist E.J. Dionne trying to make a mountain out of the molehill of one liberal bishop granting an interview to one liberal Catholic magazine. Dionne did not note that this same bishop, so nervous about the bishops being used by political partisans "far to the right," delighted liberals by attacking the Paul Ryan budget.

Dionne wrote the conservative bishops who are "eagerly picking fights with President Obama....have angered more progressive Catholics and led to talk among the disgruntled faithful of the need for a 'Catholic spring' to challenge the hierarchy’s shift to the right." So now the Catholic hierarchy is like Arab dictators? Brent wrote in reply:

Bozell, Carlson Note Media's Silence on Obama Supporter's Bribe to Hush Rev. Wright

By NB Staff | May 25, 2012 | 10:32

A  A

NBC, ABC and CBS have all ignored a new book by former Newsweek foreign editor Ed Klein that contains a shocking allegation from Klein's interview with Rev. Jeremiah Wright in which the former Obama pastor claimed that an Obama supporter offered him $150,000 if he would refrain from preaching until after the 2008 election.

From "now until election day," the liberal media will be seeking to herald only news that "advances Obama" while spiking news that "hurts him in any way," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Hannity substitute host Tucker Carlson on the May 24 program's "Media Mash." Biggest Religious Lawsuit in U.S. History Launched, Liberal Evening News Shows Ignore It

By Brent Bozell | May 22, 2012 | 12:13

A  A

The evening news broadcasts all but spiked the largest legal action in history to defend our constitutionally protected religious freedom. The May 21 editions of ABC’s World News and NBC’s Nightly News refused to report the fact that 43 Catholic dioceses and organizations filed a lawsuit on Monday against the Obama administration. CBS Evening News gave this historic news a mere 19 seconds of air time.

This is the worst bias by omission I have seen in the quarter century history of the Media Research Center. Every American knows about the Chinese communists withholding for 20 years the news that the US had landed on the moon, because it reflected poorly on the government. Our US media today are no different. They are now withholding news from the American people if it is harmful to the re-election of Barack Obama.

Bozell, Hannity Address Media's Double Standard on Presidential Drug Use

By NB Staff | May 21, 2012 | 13:06

A  A

"In 2008, in the primaries, there were 1,365 stories on Barack Obama" and of those, "not one single story" was devoted to President Barack Obama's admitted youthful use of illicit drugs. By contrast, President Bush's refusal to admit either way on youthful drug use in the 2000 campaign was met with non-stop media scrutiny, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted on Friday's edition of Hannity on the Fox News Channel.

What's more, when Hillary Clinton's campaign raised the subject of Obama's drug use in the 2008 campaign, it was denounced by the media as descending "into the gutter," the Media Research Center founder noted on the May 18 edition of Sean Hannity's primetime program. Bozell Reacts to Chris Matthews's Ludicrous Obama/Henry V Comparison on Hannity's 'Media Mash'

By NB Staff | May 04, 2012 | 10:47

A  A

When then-President George W. Bush visited U.S. troops, saying similar things to what President Barack Obama said in his recent visit, MSNBC's Chris Matthews snarled that it was a mere "photo-op," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted last night on FNC's "Hannity."

Yet when President Obama made his surprise visit to Kabul earlier this week, Matthews ridiciculously gushed that Obama's speech was "right out of Henry the Fifth," alluding to the St. Crispin's Day "band of brothers" speech in the Shakespeare play. NewsBusters Publisher Bozell Recognizes Ryan McNicholas, Paul Thurman for Outstanding Work on MRC Field Team

By NB Staff | April 27, 2012 | 14:00

NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell recently awarded two members of the Media Research Center (MRC) field team --  Ryan McNicholas and Paul Thurman --  with Apple iPads for their diligent work so far this year.

The MRC field team liaises with Tea Party leaders and conservative Americans around the nation. Ryan and Paul are two outstanding members of our 10-person field team which has traveled the country, bringing MRC signs, buttons, bumper stickers and hand fans to Tea Party rallies and conservative events in more than 35 states thus far. Paul and Ryan have worked especially hard, logging thousands of miles and working nights and weekends. Brent sought to recognize their hard work with a token of his esteem.

Video: Hannity, Bozell Review Media's Love of 'Rock Star' Obama

By NB Staff | April 20, 2012 | 11:53

A  A

In the 2008 campaign, "[t]he media were awestruck, embarrassingly so," over Barack Obama and failed to vet him thoroughly, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted on last night's edition of Hannity. "In the primaries in 2008, we counted 29 different times when the networks either called him a rising star, an emerging star, a rock star, or a superstar. Twenty-nine different times," but they never, of course, affixed such a label to his GOP opponent John McCain.

Shortly after that, Hannity played a montage of liberal journalists gushing over President Obama -- treating him like awestruck groupies -- since he's taken office. "This is embarrassing, this is journalism today," Bozell, the founder of the Media Research Center observed. [MP3 audio here; watch the full segment below the page break]

NB's Bozell Discusses Push for Congress to Investigate Comcast/NBC

By NB Staff | April 12, 2012 | 16:43

A  A

NBC's apology for its malicious Zimmerman 911 audio edits is woefully inadequate, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted on last night's "Hannity." For instance, the network has not given an on-air apology, only a written apology in a press release. What's more, the network has not disclosed the name of the producer it fired, even as it insists his error was not malicious in intent.

That's why, "we've gone to Congress now," Bozell noted, pointing out that NBC's parent company Comcast is looking for approval of a deal with Verizon that raises "potential antitrust issues." "We're asking them what about the public trust?" the Media Research Center founder noted. "This network simply just can't be trusted," he concluded. [See video below page break]

Jon Stewart Rips NBC’s Dishonest Zimmerman 911 Edit: ‘You Screwed Up’

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart surprisingly took on NBC News Monday for the network’s dishonest editing of George Zimmerman’s 911 call regarding Trayvon Martin.

Less shocking, the Daily Show host also took some punches at conservatives for how they handled this story including Media Research Center president Brent Bozell (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Bozell on Hannity's 'Media Mash': NBC 'Apology' for 911 Call Editing Is 'Unacceptable' and Evasive

By NB Staff | April 06, 2012 | 10:57

A  A

NBC's "apology" for their selective editing of the  Zimmerman 911 call was "two whole sentences of nothing," complained NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell on the April 5 edition of Fox News Channel's Hannity. The network claimed it was a simple "error in the editing process." "This was no error, this was no mistake, this was deliberately done," Bozell protested during the programs "Media Mash" segment

What's more, NBC "never told its viewers," instead simply putting out a press release, Bozell noted. "How about doing it on the air, maybe just, you know, say, whoops, we were wrong," Hannity agreed. [see video below page break]
