'Right-Leaning' Joe Scarborough, Tim Russert's Son Added As 'Meet the Press' Panelists

In an effort to reverse the perpetual and disastrous ratings slide Meet the Press experienced during David Gregory's tenure as anchor of the Sunday morning program, NBC is going all out and bringing in Joe Scarborough, the co-host of MSNBC's Morning Joe program, to provide a “right-leaning voice” during panel discussions, and the son of the late -- and still beloved -- former host Tim Russert.

These changes will take effect on Sunday, the first edition under the guidance of the show's 11th moderator, Chuck Todd, who was formerly the chief White House correspondent for the network and host of The Daily Rundown on MSNBC.

Paul Waldman: Obama Takes ‘The Long View’ on ISIS, Avoids 'Anger and Fear'

On Wednesday, American Prospect blogger Paul Waldman noted the rhetorical contrast between President Obama and Vice President Biden regarding ISIS. Essentially, Obama has sounded cool and detached, a la Miles Davis, whereas a revved-up Biden, in a Portsmouth, N.H. speech, worked up a sweat and fed off the energy of the audience in the manner of Bruce Springsteen.

“You get a sense now,” wrote Waldman, “that not only is [Obama] being cautious about what actions the United States should take with regard to ISIS, he's also being cautious in how he talks about it. He doesn't want to raise expectations of a quick and glorious victory.”

Gasp! Thom Hartmann Asks Whether Hollywood Glorifies Violence

Rare is the liberal who criticizes Hollywood where liberalism has been the party line for decades. Rarer still are Democrats who do, especially at Hollywood fundraisers.

Left-wing radio host Thom Hartmann, among the top-rated talkers in the country, recently ventured where few on the left dare tread while talking with attorney and "Ring of Fire" radio show co-host Mike Papantonio about upheaval in Ferguson, Mo., after the fatal police shooting of an unarmed 18-year-old black man. Mark Halperin on 2016: Hillary is 'Far and Away the Class of the Field'

Appearing on Tuesday’s edition of PBS’s Charlie Rose show Game Change co-author Mark Halperin said Hillary Clinton’s poor performance during her recent book tour was nothing to worry about because “She’s still so far and away the class of the field.”

His writing partner John Heilemann agreed and added: “If you think about Hillary Clinton’s story over her life, there’s a lot of material there to work with. She has a compelling story to tell. She’s not yet told it.” Not yet told it? How many memoirs does Heilemann think Clinton needs to tell her “compelling story?” (video after the jump)

Day Before Covering Fast-Food 'Living Wage' Protests, MSNBC.com Writer Wished for 'Unpaid Intern'

The day before he pounded the pavement in Durham, North Carolina, to cover fast-food employees protesting for a $15/hour "living wage" and the right to unionize, MSNBC.com writer and All In w/Chris Hayes reporter Ned Resnikoff posted a tweet wishing for the services of an unpaid intern.

"Seeking an unpaid intern to generate #content. Will be paid in college credit and Hot Takes," Resnikoff tweeted at 3:01 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday. While he gave no Web link for interested parties, the lefty Lean Forward does indeed employ interns who are compensated in academic credit, but judging by the official website, no actual monetary compensation. In July 2013, a few former Saturday Night Live and msnbc.com interns sued NBC Universal. Here's an excerpt of how The Hollywood Reporter covered the news at the time:

Shock: CNN's Lemon Strongly Hints Islam is 'More Violent' Than Other Religions

Don Lemon surprisingly shot down a common moral equivalency argument in defense of the Islamic faith during a panel discussion on Wednesday's CNN Tonight. Lemon asked, "Is Islam a more violent religion than other faiths?" When CNN analyst Tom Fuentes answered, "Yes, it must be," guest Arsalan Iftikhar retorted by playing up that "Christian extremist organizations...have bombed gay nightclubs and...abortion clinics in the name of Christendom."

The CNN anchor interrupted Iftikhar as he made that talking point, and zeroed in on the vastly different death tolls between abortion clinic bombings and Islamist terrorist attacks: [MP3 audio available here; video below the jump]

Another 9/11 Truther Hired By the Mainstream Media: Donte Stallworth to Huff Post

Liberal journalists are fond of assailing conservatives as a bunch of birthers and conspiracy kooks, but don't seem to have a problem with hiring individuals who embrace the belief that the United States government had something to do with the September 11th, 2001 terror attacks. Huffington Post editor Arianna Huffington announced on Wednesday that 9/11 truther Donte Stallworth has been hired to cover national security.

In 2009, Stallworth tweeted, "NO WAY 9/11 was carried out by 'dying' Bin Laden, 19 men who couldn't fly a damn kite. STILL have NO EVIDENCE Osama was connected, like Iraq." The former NFL player, who pled guilty to a DUI manslaughter in 2009, is also an anti-vaccine truther and has fretted about the danger of getting flu shots.

AP, LA Times and USA Today All Avoid Naming Obama in Stories on Libya

The establishment press is working mightily to shield President Barack Obama from blame for, or even association with, decisions he has made and actions he has taken — unilaterally and with dubious constitutional authority in many instances.

One particularly egregious example is Libya. When Obama decided on his own to engage in "kinetic miliitary action" to topple Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the press was thrilled. Now, as will be seen after the jump, three stories from major establishment press outlets don't even contain Obama's name, or any direct reference to him.

Five Policy Positions to Drive Him Wild! Cosmo Will Endorse Candidates

And you thought the left had exhausted all the ways to reach low-information voters in 2012.

Women’s magazine Cosmopolitan (famed for its sex "advice") will endorse political candidates – starting with the 2014 midterm elections. Politico reported on the “#CosmoVotes campaign,” that begins Monday as an “effort that will include candidate endorsements, stories on women-centric issues … and a social media effort to get readers to the polls and be part of ‘the party of the year’” – a party that plans to wipe out pro-life candidates.

WashPost Awards Obama Press Secy ‘Four Pinocchios’ For His Defense of Obama’s ‘JV’ Comments

Washington Post Fact Checker Glenn Kessler took aim at White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest on Wednesday, September 3 and the result wasn’t pretty. At issue was Earnest’s attempt to clarify remarks made by President Obama during an interview in January where he labeled the terrorist group ISIS as a “JV” team.

Despite the press secretary’s best efforts to argue that Obama was “not singling out ISIS” when he called them “JV”, Kessler made clear that nothing could be further from the truth and gave Earnest four Pinocchios for his efforts.
