Laura Ingraham Comments on New TV Series With Female Conservative Radio Host

July 26th, 2006 10:20 AM

For Laura Ingraham fans, it has been quite interesting to see her so much on Fox News lately, and watch the growth of one of America’s leading female conservatives. Conceivably, her recent success and notoriety have lead ABC to create a new television series casting “Ally McBeal” star Calista Flockhart as a conservative radio talk show host (as reported by NewsBuster Matthew Sheffield Tuesday).

With that in mind, Ingraham was on “The O’Reilly Factor” Tuesday, and she and Bill had some fun with this issue (hat tip to Ian at Expose the Left with video to follow). O’Reilly began, “Now, to change direction here, Calista Flockhart is teeing you off.”

Ingraham responded:

Well, there's nothing wrong with Calista Flockhart. She is an actress, and she's a pretty good actress.ABC is coming out with a show in the fall called "Brothers and Sisters." And it was just very funny to me that ABC has decided to cast a person as a conservative radio host who's now a television commentator. And they said, "Well, we're going to have this be not a crazy conservative like Ann Coulter" -- which I thought was so bizarre of them to say -- "but we're going to have this be more like a humanistic conservative."

Ingraham elaborated: “But they said -- they said, ‘We want more of an -- we're going to show more of an Eisenhower conservative, like a William F. Buckley Eisenhower conservative.’ And I'm thinking to myself, William F. Buckley had much to criticize Eisenhower about.”

Ingraham wisely concluded: “They're bridging the gap, don't you see, between the left coast and the middle of the country by trying to connect with those conservatives. And it just shows you that 25 years after Ronald Reagan, they don't get it.”

O’Reilly chimed in: “You know what? You know what the good news is, Laura? You know what the good news is?”

Ingraham comically answered: “Nobody is going to watch.”

What follows is a full transcript of this segment, along with a video link.

O'REILLY: OK. Now, to change direction here, Calista Flockhart is teeing you off.

INGRAHAM: Oh, God.

O'REILLY: I know nothing about the woman. I don't know what she's doing. Tell me why I should be mad at Calista.

INGRAHAM: Well, there's nothing wrong with Calista Flockhart.

O'REILLY: Like you! You're humanistic.

INGRAHAM: No, no, no, no. No, no, I'm not. No, not in the way they think it is. But they said -- they said, "We want more of an -- we're going to show more of an Eisenhower conservative, like a William F. Buckley Eisenhower conservative." And I'm thinking to myself, William F. Buckley had much to criticize Eisenhower about.

O'REILLY: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. When I think William F. Buckley, I think Calista Flockhart. I'm right -- William, Calista.

INGRAHAM: They're bridging the gap, don't you see, between the left coast and the middle of the country by trying to connect with those conservatives. And it just shows you that 25 years after Ronald Reagan, they don't get it.

O'REILLY: You know what? You know what the good news is, Laura? You know what the good news is?

INGRAHAM: Nobody is going to watch.

O'REILLY: You bet.

INGRAHAM: Over/under on that one. I don't think anyone is...

O'REILLY: Unless Simon Cowell is in there, not watching it. Laura, always a pleasure. Thanks very much. We appreciate it.
