WaPo Poll Report Headline: 'Obama Suffers Most From Year of Turmoil'
Barack Obama gets to jet around on Air Force One, golfs every once in a while (/sarc), and has all the trappings and perks of the highest office in the land. But according to a headline in Monday's Washington Post, he is the one person in the whole USA above everyone else — not those who have lost health insurance plans with which they were happy, not those who are paying outrageious amounts for far skimpier coverage than they formerly had, not the millions of potential workers so discouraged that they are no longer looking for work or considered to be workers, not the increasing ranks of the homeless — who has taken it on the chin this year (bolds are mine throughout this post):
Obama suffers most from year of turmoil, poll finds
President Obama is ending his fifth year in office matching the worst public approval ratings of his presidency, with record numbers of Americans saying they disapprove of his job performance and his once-hefty advantages over Republicans in Congress eroded in many areas, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
His position is all the more striking when compared with his standing a year ago, as he was preparing for his second inauguration after a solid reelection victory. That high note proved fleeting as the president faced a series of setbacks, culminating in the botched rollout of his Affordable Care Act two months ago.
... Obama ends his fifth year in office with lower approval ratings than almost all other recent two-term presidents. At this point in 2005, for example, former president George W. Bush was at 47 percent positive, 52 percent negative. All other post-World War II presidents were at or above 50 percent at this point in their second terms, except Richard M. Nixon, whose fifth year ended in 1973 with an approval rating of 29 percent because of the Watergate scandal that later brought the threat of impeachment and his resignation.
The report by Dan Balz and Scott Clement had to be corrected because they originally asserted that Nixon was actually impeached, which of course he wasn't.
Rush Limbaugh, as is so often the case, saw this coming:
You Were Warned: Obama as Victim
... the article goes on to describe the precipitous decline in Obama's standing in the approval numbers and how that is causing Obama to suffer. Not people who've lost their health insurance, no. Not people who are going to be. Not people who've lost their jobs. Not people who can't pay off student loans. Not people who are trapped because of the Obama economy.
No, no, no! We're not worried about them."Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Obama! Oh, Obama is suffering more than anybody from this." This is perverted, and it is sick, and it is their way of dealing with this. I went and researched my website, and it's all the way back on October the 16th where I first made reference to this fact that the Democrats, the left, the media were going to start portraying Obama as a victim.
Obama is a victim of America. So are all African-Americans, victims of America. When you're a victim, you get sympathy, and they make accommodations for you. Everybody feels story for you. They don't want to criticize you, and that's why they're doing it. I mean, how can you criticize the president? The poor guy's a victim. "Oh, my God, he's got wonderful ideas! He wanted to help so many people.
"He wanted everybody to have health care, and he got sabotaged by a bad website. He got sabotaged by a bunch of private sector people ripping him off setting up the website. Oh, poor Obama got screwed. He didn't know that was going on. He didn't know this was going on and he didn't know that. He's so poor and unfortunate Obama. How can you criticize the guy when he's so victimized?"
The obvious answer is that Obama is fair game because he's supposed to be in charge, and he's the guy who told what even the ultraliberal, reality-averse Politifact had to concede was 2013's Lie of the Year.
Probably the safest predictions on the planet are that the effort to portray Obama's poll implosion and ongoing unpopularity as not his fault will move forward in 2014, and that it will involve nonstop attempts to portray anyone and everyone who disapproves of his dishonest, sloppy, privacy-invading, opponent-harassing, state-enhancing nonchalant performance as racist.
