Michelle Obama: Our White House Sundays Are For 'Downtime,' 'Lounging or Napping'

Barbara Boland at CNSNews.com noticed that Michelle Obama explained in a Monday interview with TV talk show host Michael Strahan that most Sundays, the Obamas are just “lounging and napping” or plotting out the girls’ activities, like rehearsals or birthday parties. Their church attendance is very sparse.

Strahan asked “Easter was yesterday, so how did you spend the day?” After church, "We sat around really full because we ate too much....It was a good Easter. It was successful. We were full."

Strahan asked if the Obamas have any family Easter traditions, and Michelle replied: "Since we’ve been in the White House, we definitely try to go to church every Easter. We try to go to church as much as possible, but you know, when the kids get older, you know, Sunday is some kind of practice, rehearsal, birthday party, you know."

Mrs. Obama added. "So getting us all together, on a Sunday, is becoming more difficult now that the girls are getting older. But if we're not going to church, we really try to use Sunday as family downtime where we can kind of breathe and catch up and maybe take a little nap every now and then if we're not working."

"So if it's not Easter, and it's a typical Sunday, I could picture you guys just around here just lounging and napping?" Strahan asked.

"We could be lounging and napping, or something like that," she answered back. "The Truman balcony, which is right up here, is the one place we can go which is sort of like our backyard and you have a great view of the Washington Monument. We spend a lot of time when the weather's warm on the Truman balcony hanging out."
