Top Ky. Democrat Compares Beating McConnell to Liberating Europe From Nazis

January 17th, 2014 1:21 PM

In the past two election cycles, the media have contorted themselves in spine-splitting fashion to feign collective outrage whenever a Republican candidate for anything anywhere - no matter how little-known or inconsequential - made an untoward off-the-cuff remark.

In 2012, this aided the White House in being able to fabricate a nonexistent "Republican War on Women."

With this in mind, will this same easily offended media report comments made by Kentucky's Democratic Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo who at a campaign event Thursday for senatorial candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes compared defeating Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in 2014 to the allies liberating Europe from the Nazis at the end of World War II (video follows with transcript and commentary):

GREG STUMBO, SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE (D-KENTUCKY): You know, we’ve got a lot of people who came here tonight to celebrate, and I have to speak to the crowd that when we kicked off this campaign back in July in Lexington. And it reminded me of the feeling that our troops must have had when they liberated the European nations following World War II. Can you imagine what it felt like to know that you were liberating a country? Well, you’re about to liberate your state, you’re about to liberate your state from the worst reign of misabuse that we’ve seen in the last 30 years. You’re about to give us hope.

I don't know about you, but as far as I'm concerned, that's one of the most offensive statements made by a political operative in years.

Sen. McConnell is Adolf Hitler?

He's been brutalizing Kentucky residents, rounding up the ones he doesn't like and sending them to concentration camps where they've been systematically slaughtered in gas chambers?

He's used military forces to take over neighboring states so he could brutalize citizens there as well?

Let's be clear: if a key Republican in any state of the union made this comment about a sitting Democratic elected official, this would be national headline news right now.

But because Stumbo is a Democrat, and because the media would like nothing more than to oust McConnell in November, this disgusting speech likely won't make it beyond the conservative blogosphere and talk radio.

Stay tuned.
