CNN Censors Maher Saying Bulls—t at 11PM Friday But Not Bourdain at 9PM Sunday?
As NewsBusters reported almost ad nauseum, Anthony Bourdain on his 9PM Sunday CNN program Parts Unknown regularly uttered profanities including varieties of the S-word without being censored.
Yet on Friday’s Stroumboulopoulos which airs at 11PM, Bill Maher was censored when he said “bulls—t” (video follows with commentary):
So audible S-words, A-words, and censored but understood F-words are completely acceptable during Sunday primetime, but bulls—t is verboten after 11PM when most kids are asleep?
Now don’t get me wrong. I think a news channel should censor vulgarity at all hours.
I’m just not understanding why CNN thinks profanity is inappropriate late Friday evening when no one seemed to mind what Bourdain was saying virtually every Sunday in primetime:
